Goodies is the best spot in town for custard and treats. Its a small, family-run business that had been operating out of a truck for some time now and are finally getting a home! The custard is absolutely delicious and is definitely the best in the area--Ive tried a few and none come close. Their ginger beef is a delicious seasonal treat. The custard goes well in the root beer, cream soda, and orange soda floats. In the fall, they make their own apple cider donuts and sell them as well. I love the atmosphere and the good oldies music thats always a staple! Highly recommend a day with the family here.
Visited here while vacationing, it was a great experience! Everyone was friendly, they were excited to hang the sign on the side of the business. Now to the food. I had a Banana pudding ala mode and a homemade Ginger beer. They were absolutely the best. The banana pudding was perfect, not to sweet. The ginger beer was the best. I wanted to get more before we hit the road but they were closed.I will be back again to support.
There are not enough positive things to say about this gem. To say it is a neighborhood favorite, would be seriously under selling it.It is a great little spot. 100% family friendly. You can tell they care about what they are doing. You can chat and laugh with the extremely friendly staff. Order through a counter window and have your delicious treat in a matter of minutes. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Its all good! You can make your selections from the menu, just outside the seat area. You can also browse their website. You did read that correctly - there is a seating area, for you to enjoy you frozen delights and snap a few pics with your family. I recommend the Rum Cake Sandwich and the Apple Cider Donut Sandwich. There may be a line but it is absolutely worth the wait. You may make a new friend or two while on line. This Spot Get Two of the Biggest Thumbs Up!!
SO DARN GOOD! The service is fantastic - everyone there has smiles on their face and is willing to help. The first time we went there, the manager was walking around making recommendations to the people waiting in line. There are only about 10 things offered, but every one weve tried has been delicious! A bit overpriced, but well worth it to support the local business whose staff is the example of service!
If you enjoy a tasty frozen desert, I recommend this place! Frozen Custard is so delicious and the variety of options they have will definitely keep me and my wife coming back. The owner Brandon is very hands on. He was out mixing it up with the customers and people just passing by! Dont make the mistake of passing up an opportunity to go here. You wont be disappointed!
What a treat, this spot is well known to locals, but since it is on a side street in what looks to be a historic Ice House (fitting since they sell Ice Cream) it has a nice outdoor seating area, and they even have a vintage Metro Delivery Van that caters parties. Check them out. Not a cheap Ice Cream treat, but worth every penny.
- My donut was dry, lacking flavor. I threw it out.- They dont advertise their prices on the menu.- Overpriced. The donut sandwich cost 10 dollars. 5 dollars would be a fair price given that the donut was bad and you can get good ice cream for that price at other places in Alexandria (including the gelato place 1/4 block away, and Dolci)- They dont accept credit cards. You should protect your purchase by selecting that you are paying for a good or service on Venmo.- Pretty outdoor space with a few places to sit down
First and foremost, their treats are really good, the service was excellent, and the lady who took our order was really nice and personable. But my review takes a few stars off for not letting people know they dont take credit cards until youve ordered, being overpriced and not listing the prices, and not staying open after dinner when folks often want dessert.Ive enjoyed Goodies before when they only had the truck and I was really looking forward to this new addition to Alexandria. Im still really glad theyre here and wish them only success, but at $18 for 2 reasonably portioned desserts ($20 with the tip we gave)......thats just too much. There are no prices listed which can only be seen as them realizing the prices are too high. At these prices, I wont be bringing folks from out of town or suggesting it to others without making it clear just how expensive it is. Especially when there is very good competition nearby and in Delray. Also it seems their hours are rather odd since theyre only open until 6:00pm Fri-Sun. How much business are they loosing by not staying open for folks who would be happy to walk there after dinner in Old Town but arent starting dinner at 4:30? Lower the costs and stay open later would be my recommendations to the owner. That would entice me to come back more often. But I genuinely wish them luck.
Goodies is frustrating because I love the story, want to support local, and the actual product is pretty good. However, they have a lot of work to do.The actual menu items are overpriced for what you get - at least 20-30% over market rate, for one. In no way, shape, or form is their milkshake worth $10. The menu is also confusing and doesnt have pricing on it. And if theyd made it clear that they charge $10 for a plain milkshake, I bet a lot less people would experience the sticker shock.Secondly, the line moves very slowly. When my wife and I have gone, close to half the people in line have left due to frustration, kids getting restless, being in the sun/heat for that long, etc.The third issue is they dont accept credit cards. Yes, I totally understand credit card fees are a pain. But by not accepting credit cards, this business is costing itself a ton of money between slower service and pushing away people who prefer to pay by card. Thats without considering the hygiene of handling cash in a pandemic world vs touchless CC payment. Its one of those good in theory, terrible in practice kinda things. The confusion around this really slows down the line, too, going back to point two.Ive tried this place a couple of times to see if the first time was an anomaly because of all the positive reviews and wanting to support the business, but theres no reason for me to go back.
Loved the custard, but also loved the owner. I miss these types of places. Just chatting with the workers and enjoying good custard.
Wow the cup of cream was great. I cant wait to go back and try something else. I also took a pic with Bobs Big boy! Nothing but love.
We loved this place! I got the Jukebox sundae, and enjoyed sitting out in the benches. They have done a great job restoring the Ice House. We will be back!
Loved it!!! Best ice cream, youll love it! Amazing flavor, try it!
This Wisconsite vouches for their claim. Quality custard with quality ingredients. Best in the area. be aware they dont accept credit card but you can easily pay via cash or app. Small barriers for good custard. Apparently they also have a food truck?
Eh, where do I start? Goodies currently serves out of their truck while the Commerce Street location finishes construction, so good business decision on their part. But if you are doing something like that, then you should be prepared to serve your customers. I asked for a shake, but the response was “Sorry, the blender is broken.” Got the custard instead, it was average.
Absolutely some of the best custard I have ever had. Literally the best ginger beer I have ever had. The owner.... The owner has got to be the absolutely nicest human around. Highly recommend this place to anyone!!
Great adaptive reuse of a historic Old Town building. I’ve been waiting for something like Goodies to open at this location for years to revitalize this corner: a locally owned frozen custard shop in a restored ice house is perfect. I haven’t tried the custard yet, but five stars for the concept and making Old Town a vibrant place.
So far have had the peanut butter Jitterbug shake and the apple cider donut sandwich, both were excellent!
Goodies is great. The space is incredibly cool and I love how they repurposed this old ice house. The only reason Im knocking off a star is because theyre cash only, and because they were out of milk at 4:30PM on Friday when I went. Not the end of the world I know, but given the fact that their hours are already so limited, I was surprised they were unable to make shakes. They do take Venmo, which is good cause I only had $2 in cash on me.The guy was super nice and made me a sundae with most of the ingredients I wanted on the shake. Its not cheap but the custard is delicious. I just wish they would stay open longer in the summer.
Hidden gem. Great little stop in our walk through Old Town Alexandria
This was authentic Wisconsin frozen custard: creamy, smooth, rich, and delicious! The turtle sundae flavor was a hit with everyone- salty nuts, creamy caramel, fudge sauce blended with scrumptious vanilla custard! What a cute and fun location! #frozenyumminess @mmmgoodies
Amazing custard creations! A great experience for kids and adults.
I have been following Goodies since I had incredible custard from the retro van at Capitol Hill Market. The new location is beautiful, and the custard is absolutely divine! I cannot wait to come back again!
Old fashioned ice cream shop at an old ice shop. This is a must stop in Old Town Alexandria. The custard is great sand they rotate specials regularly.
When prices arent posted anywhere, You know youre in trouble!!! $18 for a big apple sundae and a small cup of vanilla.I really wanted to love this place and continue to support this business but...1. Its too expensive2. You know its expensive when you dont post the prices anywhere3. Your website doesnt state that your cash and mobile payments oniy. I had to rely on other reviewers for this info.Overall Im glad they are in the neighborhood and at this historic location.I do hope with how expensive this is, that they pay their employees a living wage!!!I seriously wouldnt be surprised if this was the most expensive frozen treat in the country. The custard was good, but not worth the cost. Theres an excellent gelato place 250 feet away.I wish them luck, however I think eventually theyll either go out of business because of the prices, or hopefully lower them instead.Update to respond to the owners response:You dont even post the prices, so how could I even do the complicated math of $/ounce youre referring to? ???
Awesome place. The gentleman who served us was such a great guy and the root beer float we had was amazing (also my first one ever so a little bias).Finding the place was a little tricky. You need to go into the USDA building, then ask a security guard to let you through and call up Goodies to collect you.
I got to try it for the first time yesterday. It might be the best frozen custard I’ve ever had. I will be back! Next time I want to try it with their apple cider donuts.
This place is great but SO upsetting they close at 6. Who closes that early during the summer? Please change your hours!
Friendly services and great custard. Would have been 5 stars but small cups of custard for 8 dollars is a little overpriced.
Excellent custard and special desserts. Customer service with style and a smile. Thank you for being part of Old Town!
Delicious custard! Expect long waits. Only accepts cash or venmo. Not making shakes currently.
This was our first time at Goodies, and it did not disappoint. Excellent frozen custard, friendly service, generous servings. Deeeee-licious.
Big Apple Donutwich might be my new favorite treat 🤩😋
Toasted pecans makes the turtle sundae extra delicious. I will be back for more.
Top notch. I grew up on WI Frozen Custard and Goodies nails it. Beyond that, two staples of a great local custard stand are a classic location and an owner that is a big part of the community- ✔️ and ✔️. They’ve made the historic Icehouse look amazing, and it will inevitably become an iconic Alexandria spot. And, while I don’t know Brandon, I can tell from what he puts out on social media that he is at the center of a strong community which will only grow with the new location. Congrats on the opening!Currently cash or Venmo I think. Venmo was a super easy experience.
Great frozen custard creations. A bit on the pricy side for what you get.
Treat yo’self to the best custard! Never disappointed in anything I’ve had from Mmmgoodies
Delicious treats, friendly vibes, cool atmosphere.
Been trying to patronize this place for a week now but they are always closed in the evenings which seems like an odd choice for an ice cream shack in the summer. Youre missing a lot of customers currently!
I heard about them for the first time, 2 weeks ago and went today to try their Rum Cake Wish and it was to die for! I never ever had something like that and it was delicious! So light and tasty! The owner Brandon is super friendly! While waiting in the line, you can enjoy some music too! They opened at noon and was there at 11.45, already 10 people in line. I admit after my Rum-Wish, I got in line again to try their homemade ginger beer and it was so refreshing! My new favorite place! Can’t wait to try more things and bring family and friends😊
Their Big Apple donutwich is divine
The Big Apple was sinfully delicious.
The renovations to the store front in Old Town are amazing! Cant wait to enjoy more amazing custard.
$15 for a pint of ice cream. Thats just ridiculous. Its not THAT good.
Nothing short of AMAZING! The brownie custard sandwich was decadent...I literally had to pull over in my car to enjoy my dessert. The customer service was top notch especially during this pandemic. If your looking for pure perfection in a custard then track this truck down and treat yourself!
Went to Goodie’s for the first time today. Absolutely delicious! I had the banana pudding topped with vanilla custard and caramel...wow!! Both separately would have been great desserts, but together.Try it!
Beautiful space, tasty treats, and great people!
By far the best custard and treats Ive ever had! The service is impeccable as well! Brandon and Ro are two of the nicest people you ever want to meet and they go out of their way to ensure the customer experience is extremely enjoyable every single time. They do not play when it comes to sweets, and the quality and taste are always spot on no matter what treat I get. My go-to is the Rum cake-wich...trust me, you will LOVE it!
Just take a look at the menu.... the desserts are as good as advertised. The Goodies frozen custard truck is so distinctive, Brandon and his brother are amazing, and what you see is what you get! Great desserts and great service/ambiance!
A baby blue converted 1950s milk truck, Brandon and Rozell in bow ties and newsboy caps, and the best frozen custard anywhere. Whats not to love? I like the turtle sundae so much, I cant even try anything else. Homemade praline pecans and chocolate sauce, custard made from scratch with Madagascar vanilla beans. Being honest, I tried the strawberry sundae once - Brandon pays attention to every detail, including adding the freshest, most perfect strawberries. Hes also a great guy, along with Rozell - about as customer-friendly and genuine as they get.
Congratulations and good luck!! Custard was amazing!!
Wow! This was such a unique and delicious find we came upon at the eastern market in Washington D.C.The owner was very passionate about the business and definitely has a creative way of making his desserts. We got 3 different things and all were nothing short of amazing! I highly recommend for a premium custard dessert!
A true staple in the culinary rekindling of bringing passion, love, family and friends back into food. The owner here is an awesome guy, and you can really feel his companies vision when you talk to him. Really awesome..p.s- we had the Lemon Pound Cake dish, RB Float, and Pecan Sunday between us three at the Eastern Market....it was sad to see the bottom of the bowl in each of these delicious deserts!! Thank you so much!
Excellent ice cream!! The Turtle Sundae was heavenly!
Best Frozen custard in town, friendly service. Mmmgood!
Listen, dont be fooled by the TOP secret location. This place has the best shake Ive ever had hands down. And such an interesting experience. Ive never had to go through security/be escorted just to get a tasty treat! Definitely recommend. (Make sure to go into the USDA building)
I dig the custard daddy-o. This cat has the best dessert in the city. Good to cool you down in the DC heat.
Superb frozen custard! We tried 3 different treats and could not decide which one was better. The entrance is the USDA security entrance - with an escort from Goodies owner down to the SB (secret basement)...this was an awesome experience!
OMG, one of the best frozen custards Ive ever had! We caught the food truck at Eastern Market, and boy was it worth it.Hubby and I had the sundae, with pecans. It was perfect. We had just finished an okay brunch down the street, which left us wanting something a bit more. Goodies hit the spot!
This has been such a great find in DC. The frozen custard is a hit back to back. It is consistently good. I especially love the vintage soda shop vibe. Really well thought out. My friend and I tried them first at Truckeroo a little while back and weve been hooked ever since. It is priced right for a gourmet product and the customer service is impeccable. More importantly, it is a black owned, community based business and theyre doing great things out here!
My fiance and I may be biased since we are UW alum, but we had a great experiences at the Goodies Food Truck. We had the chocolate-banana and the peanut butter-banana milkshakes. The milkshakes here were probably one of the best milkshakes we have had, on top of that they were complimented by the personable owner and great customer service.Definitely somewhere I would return to if Im ever in DC again.
Aside from the AMAZING custard, the staff was really friendly! We were visiting from NY and mentioned that we dont get out of DC proper when we come down, they chatted with my friends and I as we ate and shared some tips about where else to go thats off the beaten path. The custard was delicious and just the right size :-D cant wait to go back!
The best frozen custard I ever tried and Im picky. Made from his own recipe! The owner is really nice too!
What a hidden gem! After lots of walking the sweet and fresh taste of the Oreo shake was just what we needed to be refreshed. Dont get fooled when you dont see a store front. This secret find is located in the basement of the USDA- just enter the visitors entrance and ask them to call the shop so you can be escorted down to the sweetest find in DC.
We used Goodies to cater a private ice cream social event for our staff and are so glad we did! They’re more than the most delicious frozen custard ever – they provide a truly unique experience for their customers. Brandon was great to work with and very accommodating to our requests. Looking forward to having them back!
Delicious, one of the best custard that I ever had at our USPTO Community Day!!! Highly recommended.
We are going to be in DC in June and have heard how awesome Goodies is and how neat it is to go into the basement of the USDA building, we are wondering where the security entrance is located where you go for the escort. thank you!
I lived in Wisconsin for 9 years. Ive eaten a lot of frozen custard. This stuff is great. The ice cream sandwiches are a delight as well.
Our family of 6 (ages 11-65) enjoyed shakes, root beer floats, cookie sundaes and the best customer service from the sweet, gracious gentlemen at mmm goodies! Wish we had this truck in our hometown! Go find them around DC now! Delicious!!
Today I took my family of 4 to the harbor for a family holiday time. We get in line at the custard stand and wait patiently while the only employee makes 4 root beer floats and a vanilla shake for the family in front of us. It is now our turn and step up to the counter when the employee waves a family in the rear of the line to the front. He states they have been waiting a ling time. I said they werent even in line while my family was waiting. My sons said to him we were in line first and he still waited on this lady. I was so mad I step out of line and refused to spend a dime at this place. Customer service is awful. Spend your money somewhere else.
I had the custard from a truck on Maryland Ave, SW. Been looking for the truck to return. I found the secret location at USDA but Goodie was not open. I had to settle for less. Please come back to Maryland Ave and get on the Food locator when you do!
Caught up with them in eastern market and oh what a treat best custard ever
Amazing... Amazing... Amazing
High quality custard, high quality owner, high quality service. This is a grassroots business that will be known for years to come in DC as an icon.
Excellent custard and service!
Amazing treat!
Very good and awesome service!!
Location is incorrect, could not find it at all
Wrong location, nothing there
