I keep hoping they will get better however it isn’t in the cards. Anyway, came here for my Birthday lunch ordered the chopped salad with chicken, and the spaghetti Bolognese. The chopped salad was good however the Bolognese was horrible, and I mean horrible. The sauce tasted like mush. We ordered the hot fudge Sunday for dessert and the fudge was actually chocolate syrup from Hershey’s. Waiters were just average at best. Sorry La Scala I won’t be back for a long while. Much work is needed with staff interaction with customers, and overall food flavor.
Im not sure what the Chop salad here is the main attraction. Shredded iceberg lettuce and shredded salami with some peronchinis nothing even special about it. Basing my review strictly on this one salad who knows everything else could be amazing.
5 stars for Gabe and Junior, they’re two of the best in Beverly Hills and keep me coming back.
I went to this place last week and it was definitely a really good experience. We had a get together and chose this place. We were 15 people in all and each one of us was paid attention by the staff. This was probably the best part of visiting this place. The food was also delicious and drinks were good as well. The most impressive thing about this place was the treatment by the staff. Thankyou LA Scala for such a wonderful experience.
I’ve been a long-time customer of La Scala but this place has gone very downhill. They make a great chop salad, but the rest of their food is mediocre at best - pasta is rarely cooked well, most of their dishes just don’t taste good and orders are often just made incorrectly. What prompted this post is the service. It feels like every time we go in the staff is inattentive and difficult. Even when we order online they don’t make accommodations (in particular my wife has a dairy allergy and they refuse to not put cheese in her salad). There are so many good Italian restaurants in LA… sadly this just isn’t one of them anymore. Highly suggest you take your business elsewhere.
I have been frequenting this establishment for many years and will continue to do so. I much prefer eating indoors and am waiting for the next time I can sit at a booth, relax, enjoy the exquisite food and drink. I used to get the chopped salad but I am unable to have salads anymore so now I get the various pasta dishes and everything is perfect and they will substitute or remove things that I cant eat. This is a wonderful establishment and I am so glad to be able to dine there.
Better then a couple of years ago, fast efficient seating, good waiters REALLY trying, great martini, not loud, VERY clean. Parking across street. Highly recommend
Couldn’t ask for a better place yummy great service great food
Awesome old school Italian food....
OMG LOOK 👀 At this PETRIFIED PREHISTORIC MOZZARELLA MARINA..This la SCALA is SUCH A JOKE…A mediocre CHOPPED SALAD for $25 & NOW THIS…I called & tried to explain MANAGER was Deaf EARS & The PHONE GUY STRAIGHT UP NASTY
Location in Beverly Hills was great. Valet parking and close to Rodeo Drive. It was O-KAY. The salad wasnt impressive. Not a lot of flavours. Lots of beans and peas and Im sure it was healthy but it just lacked flavours. The clam linguini was a large serving which I couldnt finish but the sauce was just too runny for my liking. I typically like a thicker, richer sauce for the linguini. So it tasted like I was just eating naked noodles with clams on the side. Im sure the valet parking cost as much as one dish. But oh well. It was an interesting restaurant - I felt like I was in some American ranch.
Terrible customer service . It s like they are doing you a favor to let you eat there .
Been going for about 5 years now food is Always great
La Scala is my special place. Ive been going here for over 30 years. If you ask me whats good on the menu, I cant recommend anything because I only order one thing: the chopped salad. There are many imitators but this is the original. You can add extras like olives, tomatoes or chicken. Its a wonderful salad, bon appetito!
Chopped Salads so good that I once ate a La Scala chopped salad after having another (inferior) chopped salad from down the street an hour earlier.
Good food. Bad service.
We came to La Scala for a late Valentine’s Day celebration on Feb 15th. There is a lot to say about this place. I will start with food. We ordered fried mozzarella, eggplant as appetizers, and one mushroom ravioli plate to share because I wasn’t fully hungry. The appetizers and the sauces on them were delicious. The ravioli plate, though, wasn’t as impressive as I was expecting. There was literally 6 ravioli pieces on the plate with some another amazing sauce on it. But the presentation was very weak and the amount of the food wasn’t satisfying for what you pay for it. After we were done eating, our waiter asked if we had any concerns, I told him that ravioli was a disappointment. He said he will tell that to kitchen. I wonder if they are going to change anything though. For this reason I am giving 4 stars. If they improve their plate, I can improve my rating too! Enough with the food. I like the ambiance very much. Low lights, candles on tables, bar looks shinier than the rest of the place. The artwork on the walls are pretty. They have some outside sitting area also. Parking is a b*tch in this area. I was lucky to find a metered spot on the same block after some touring around. Overall, it’s a very nice date location with $$$ sign.
I just ordered through Grubhub and realized i ordered wrong salad when I viewed order detail. Despite calling both Grubhub and the restaurant within literally 3-4 minutes of placing order, Grubhub confirmed the restaurant refused to update salad (we are talking 3-5 minutes from placing order, and correct salad was less $) but the restaurant manager was so unkind and unhelpful. My appetite is ruined.
Great food and nice ambiance. Leon is the GUY and I always takes care of me when Im in town 🙏. Definitely recommend this spot.
ONE OF THE WORST PLACES IN THE WORLD SUPER LOW QUALITY FOOD AND VERY BAD STAFF THEY SEEM LIKE THE SAD KIDS FROM HELL
The staff are great. Excellent salads.
I am a huge fan of institutions. Love a good chopped salad. Consistency is great! Unfortunately the bad attitude of the manager is also consistent. Some people are not cut out for customer service or leadership. It’s not a flaw, they should just find a different job.
Hard to find parking. Street parking available. Patio available. Nice crew member.
Tasty italian mangiare, good crab cakes. Tiramisu dessert above average.
If I could post zero stars, I would. They lost our reservation and that alone would have been understandable, but as we were trying to figure out what on earth happened, they quite literally shoved us aside to accommodate all the people that came in after us, not even acknowledging when we really just asked ‘can you accommodate us or should we go elsewhere?’ A yes or no would have sufficed. I’ve never been anywhere so rude in my life. Seriously go next door or keep walking and don’t waste your money here.
Loved the food and atmosphere!
What can I say about La Scala? It’s an icon! I have been going there since middle school. I absolutely love it and have loved it almost my entire life. The chopped salad is the best! The service is exceptional and so is the food. You can never go wrong at La Scala. There is a reason it’s been around for so many years.
I wish you had a negative rating for this restaurant so that I can give them a negative 5 star rating, the rudest staff I ever encountered, two of us went there for lunch, we sat down in a booth that accommodates at least 4 people, once we ordered our lunch we received a call from a business associate that wanted to join us for lunch, he expressed that he was 5 minutes away, we asked the waiter to bring an extra salad for our business associate, the waiter said the we dont allow joiners what is a joiner we asked, no one can join you for lunch once you are seated replied the rude waiter. DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT, CHECK THEIR RATING ON YELP AS WELL. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
I am always surprised when they pass out menus at La Scala because when my family goes, everyone gets the chopped salad. My boyfriend is deeply confused about what makes this salad so special, since it has few ingredients and nothing so unusual. The best explanation we have is its all about the dressing. All people in the party must be present in order to be seated, and they get quite a lunchtime rush so try to err on the early or late side in order to avoid a long wait for a table. The bread is served cold unless you ask for it toasted, which they will do. My mom also loves the lemon cake when they have it.
Best place in Southern CA for dinner. Have eaten there more than 100 times. Always take guests from out of town. Fabulous food. Best ever. 🥰
Saturday afternoon we went there...service was nothing to brag about..the same as food. Lasagna...cold and no flavour....costco lasagna is much better honest. Lobster ravioli was swimming in oil...and for god sake if you complain....you better not ...they argue and argue and argue
Server was accomodating and sweet, bolognese was amazing, food was fresh. Loved the old school vibes.
Food was amazing as usual, however, the service this afternoon was really off compared to usual....other servers had to eventually help us pay our bill...the young man supposed to be our server was sitting up at the bar!!!... but we will go back because the food is so good! Think this was an off day/ shift change for our server...
Our two servers were amazing. Management & host were NOT!Deplorable service. Bathrooms lacked sanitation! Terrible! The chopped salad is the ONLY reason why we keep returning to La Scala. We have brought these, poor service concerns and complaints to management. They could care less. When I requested to speak to the owner, I was given a phone number to a receptionist who took my message but did not put me through to the owner. I was told the owner only visits the office but once or twice per month. No response to my dissatisfaction from the owner yet.We are long time, loyal patrons on the brink of not returning again.WE DO NOT RECOMEND THIS PLACE. (for the fact of poor management, hosts and especially: inattentive owner)
One of my go-to spots to grab something to eat. good location, always clean, and very good customer service. Highly recommended!
The quality of food is mediocre at best. Service is absolutely horrible!!I grew up on La Scala food and everything was completely different and far better. There are much better restaurants literally right around the corner with much better quality of food and service.
Drinks and food was great
This has been one of our favorite restaurants for many, many years. we always get the chopped salad. It is wonderful with the great bread they have. Nice ambience although it can get a little loud; during the lunch and dinner times. Good to make reservations during their busy times but not necessary if you are willing to wait a bit.
Classic Italian Hollywood landmark. Located in Beverly Hills California. Said to be the last place Marilyn Monroe ate at before passing away. They have delicious food and are know for perfecting the chopped salad.
Great food and service. I recommend the chop salad or the ravioli. You cant go wrong with either one.
I was just here for lunch and had a chopped salad. It was good, nothing too special. Friends ordered pasta and said it was good but nothing amazing. Service was pretty slow. Fairly inexpensive dining for the area.
Worst customer service ever
Weve been going here for over 20 years. With all the great restaurants in Beverly Hills to choose from, we like Scala the best.
Very rude/disrespectful/racist waitress. We experienced this after ordering the drinks, so we just paid for the drinks and immediately left. Worst experience ever.
Pretty good, standard Italian food, from a place thats been in Beverly Hills for more than 50 years. Their signature lunchtime dish is the Chopped Salad, which they have expanded to include Chicken or some seafood (I cant remember), and you can even get it without the salami (or salami on the side). Courteous and efficient wait staff, though they wont seat you at your table unless your whole party is there.
I havent had such Gd meal for long time. Everything was fresh n nicely cooked. The bread is fresh but it should b little toasted. Coffee is so Italian.
Food was just decent, and expensive for what it was. Somewhat bland and boring
We came in when the restaurant was only 70% full and were told there was an hour wait. They took our phone number and didn’t call or text after an hour so we decided to check in. We came in and were told they were ready.. why didn’t you text us?! We asked for a salad with no salami and waited for about 20 minutes. The salad came, with salami.. we asked them again for no salami and waited for another 15 minutes. The salad came again with salami, less salami, but still with. We gave up. We used to come here for years, but honestly, we’re done. For a $20 salad I expect nothing but perfection and the overall experience was shameful. Snotty and slow service and food I do not trust anymore. This is not the first time we experience this, but this is going to be our last time coming.
I love chopped salads and i needed to have a business lunch. Service was friendly and very efficient. I ordered a half order of the chicken chopped. I felt it needed more lettuce to chicken ratio, but it was good. I would go back if i was in the area. It was very loud inside too, difficult if meeting with a client.
My favorite salad is the Leon chicken salad! Maybe my actual favorite salad in the whole world. There’s something in the red wine, olive oil dressing that just can’t quite be duplicated... it’s kind of annoying because I’ve tried at home and it’s just not quite right. I CRAVE this salad. Can’t explain it. Just try it. After 2 or three times you’ll go back again and again!!!!!
Very nice place and the food was outstanding but our server was not up to the task. The server received 2 stars for too many things. But, I would definitely go back again!
Great food great service reasonable prices, parking $5.00
Fantastic for generations. Have been going there for the chopped salad since I was young and Im pushing 80. Quality and service have never wavered. What a Beverly Hills institution! Best wishes for many more years of great food and service!
Great atmosphere and food. Good spot before a show at the Wallis
Great sandwiches. Order at the counter. Can be a little hard to get a table; younger crowd. The Barn BLT, no tomato, was one of the best sandwiches Ive ever had.The Burrata was good. Not very filling, but I guess thats what you get for a grilled cheese.
Food is good, pleasant environment, moderate prices. Take out service is fast. Service is o.k. but not great, except at the take out counter where the service is great.
This is such a special place, the decor is beautiful and tasteful, the service is truly like no other (they always remember us and are so attentive), and the food is just plain delicious!!! Its always the first place I go when Ive been away from LA for a long time. A must try for sure.
Still the best chopped salad in town! They also serve an outstanding bolognese sauce and mozzarella marinara.
The Place is Old World Beverly Hills … chop salad is amazing and dish after dish. Get a booth sit back and enjoy the old Beverly Hills ambience. Avoid just walking in … make a reservation.
Excellent Italian food that was served hot and all four of our dinners were different and delicious. The menu is extensive and they have specials. Prices are reasonable and the service was very good. Public parking across the street. Im looking forward to my next visit.
Every time I go here, I feel like Im heading into the past. But every time I leave here Ive had a good meal, a good experience, and I think to myself I want to come back here again. A nice traditional Italian place with reliable food and service.
We arrived ahead of one person in our party and they refused to seat us until the final person arrived. They asked that we stand in the entrance instead of seating us out of the way. We knew what he would order but they said it is the wishes of the owner that they not seat people until the entire party. We were a party of 5 waiting on one person. Strange approach to welcoming guests.
Went for lunch and was meeting a friend who was not there yet. I asked for an outside table, they are always available. The hostess asked how many guests and if we were all there. I explained that there would be two, but one was uncertain. She said I had three options:1. Wait till my friend arrived.2. Be seated and order for both of us.3. Be seated and order for one; my guest would not be served if she arrived.I asked her to repeat it and she politely did, thinking nothing was out of order.Food is always good, but management has many weird policies, some of which I read before posting a review. I have been coming to LaScala forever, so I put up with their alienation simply because Im used to it and the food is consistently superb.
Food was good but the WORST service ever. So bad...too many great restaurants to put up with bad service.
The food was good and the service was great we really enjoyed it very friendly atmosphere.
Absolutely the best old school Hollywood Italian LA restaurants in Beverly Hills. Amazing
Old school at its finest. Great service, the original and still the best chopped salad, everything is as it should be.
I would go everyday for the famous chopped salad (served with fabulous bread) but the poor attitude would make the original dedicated Italian owner roll over in his grave, or come up and chop heads. Weve had staff scrape chairs around us to get ready for closing when closing was hours away if there were not a lot of customers. It is so packed at lunch that youre lucky to get any service then at all.
Meal and service surpasses our expectations. The service staff visited us twice to ensure we were satisfied. We would highly recommend it!
Good service. Great food
Call for reservations they said to just walk in.. When we got there same guy asked if I had a reservation? Requested a booth there were 4 maybe a 5th was being cleaned. Then seated next to a woman screaming. Had to leave after they wouldnt move us.
Its awesome place food yum yum costumer service excellent.
Fresh, signature chopped salad and aesthetic feel made for an enjoyable summer brunch with loved ones!
Im crazy of Italian food!!!Your place is great! Awesome restaurant where everyone know his job! Friendly and professional staff!
Amazing food, a unique ambiance and super service.
HORRIBLE PLACE, the owner Gigi Leon loves to humiliate her employees, I worked there few years ago and Ill never forget, on my first week, the manager introduced me to Gigi.. I went to give her a hand shake as any decent person would.. she said: no, thank you..I dont like shaking hands.I doubt she would do the same thing if someone rich/ important. That place is also gross.. I dont recommend going there,
Its sad to see this restaurant with so much potential get the reputation they have due to staff. If I could I would give this restaurant negative stars. If your ordering food here be prepared to wait up to two hours. I deliver food for postmates and I had three orders at once from this restaurant. The waitress; Gaby or Gabrielle, hadnt seen the second order; at all, and barely put in my order once I got there. She apologized and I didnt mind waiting, so all was well. There goes 20 minutes. Once the food was ready I told her of the other order I had just received which was a simple spaghetti that came in. She took my phone, saw the order, got the bags, and said that the third order was all ready. I had around 8 bags filled with food (and a drink she almost forgot) so I couldnt check right away. I waddled to my car and double checked the orders, only to see the last order she gave me was wrong.. It was a three course meal when the customer only orderd spaghetti and bread. I went inside and told her the issue and she replied that the order she gave me was correct. I assured her it wasnt, but because I had already accepted the request I couldnt see the order on my phone. I just remembered the clients name and that he ordered spaghetti with bread. She had given me order #290 which was wrong. I had orders #286 and #287 (which she made me wait for) and a man just picked up #288. I told her I was positive that the order mustve been #289 and If she could check if the order had spaghetti with bread (specifically with tomato and basil on the side) and she said nope order 289 is Turkey leg. She gave me no options for help. I couldnt even call the customer because once you complete the request you only get the contact information of the first order and he was my third stop! I had to delivery the first two orders, was finally able to see his order (IT WAS ORDER 289) and texted him apologizing for the lateness. I had to go ALL THE WAY BACK to the restaurant to see the same waitress. Just for her to tell me so it was order 289? I said.. yes. She looked in the system, looked through the bags, and asked for my phone to get the order again. While I was sitting there for the third time waiting for this food, it came to me that the reason she didnt see the order I was looking for in the system was because SHE HAD NEVER PUT THE ORDER IN, JUST LIKE MY SECOND ORDER FROM THE BEGINING. A SIMPLE PICK UP ELONGATED TO 2 HOURS. And in the end, she didnt even apologize, instead she gave me attitude as if it was my fault. What a terrible experience, and seeing from the other comments, Im not the only person who believes the restaurant needs better staff. If you want better reviews, please get this waitress away from the front end or ordering station. :/ Ive never had to write a bad review in my life but this takes the cake. Ill be telling everyone to be wary of this place until better staff is found😥 good food tho!
Long-running Italian restaurant known for chopped salad, homemade pastas & famous visitors.
NEVER order a group lunch order from here. They are incredibly rude on the phone, refuse to be helpful or label orders by name or even number, which is a basic courtesy. To top it off, they completely messed up the order. If I could leave a negative tip, I would. I am nothing but cordial when it comes to dealing with restaurants because I used to work in food service, but the woman helping me was completely unreasonable.I dont understand how a place can run like this in the lunch business of Beverly Hills. Our company will never order from there again.
Love the food but a lot if attitude from the maitre D...tooo noisy..
The food looked and tasted like dog food and my daughter accidentally dropped her food by accident. The manager was extremely rude to me and my family after she refused to bring a replacement and left the food on the floor for over 30 minutes as a safety hazard. The manager even called the police on us, and they even agreed how crazy she was. NEVER COME HERE EXPECTING GOOD SERVICE!! If I could give it zero stars I would.
Excellent food, great service and beautiful ambiance. Highly recommend.
Very nice ambiance. Their legendary chopped salad was good, but it didnt live up to its fame to me. What was great was the lasagna, I loved it.
They charged me two orders and I bought one. They didn’t even give me the money back
The service and atmosphere was ok but food was not great.Chop salad is way below average - soggy, over-salted, bland and not fresh tasting. My chicken dish was again too salty and sloppy. My wife’s parmigiana was nothing to rave about.
A must go to Italian restaurant. The original chopped salad is delicious. I truly enjoyed the prosciutto e melone, brought back childhood memories. The decor is chic and yet welcoming. Eggplant parmigiano is delicious.Very lovely atmosphere, staff is courteous and professional. Pretty setting, romantic at night. Has good vibes and great place to people watch and enjoy Beverly Hills.
If your whole party is not there, they will not seat you... period
The best chopped salad, I like to go at lunch time
Very nice Italian restaurant in Beverly Hills great Ambiance great service and excellent food would definitely go there again and recommend it to anyone visiting or who lives nearby.
Ok, the chopped salad is terrific but I really loathe the attitude this place has about seating you when youre party is incomplete. The place was EMPTY and the idiot at the desk said we had to wait until our 3rd person was there. She was parking the car!! This policy is ridiculous, especially when the restaurant is EMPTY. Petty powered clerks...the people at the front.
Awesome salads, a bit pricey but the portions are huge and well worth it. I only wish they had more locations and maybe lighter options when youre not looking for a heavy meal.
