Visited yesterday which was a Saturday afternoon and it is supposed to be a high traffic time unfortunately only one lovely efficient lady was working behind the counter, taking the order, then ringing it up then going back for the next, line got long so the poor lady didn’t have anyone to help. I had a hard yogurt that is a cookie and cream it was super tasty and I added peanut butter cups because why not ! We sat down inside, it was a good visit, just plan the shifts of the worker so they won’t be overworked. She was amazing though !
A short late-morning break on a warm day. Grabbed a couple of cups of ice cream and a lemonade to rest our feet and get a little break from the growing warmth outside. The ice cream was extremely good - dense flavorful and not overly frozen. This is definitely worth a stop if you are in the Beacon Hill area.
This cone of frozen yogurt was $6. She made one bigger but couldnt keep it in the cone so she threw it away and handed me this. I ordered a small so thats fair but $6 for a small yogurt?! I feel like Im 82 right now complaining about inflation to teenagers. Back in my day... Also, i asked if the NS chocolate tasted similar to regular chocolate and the reply was i dunno, never tasted it. If any of you are curious, its decent, from the small taste on this cone that i got.
Rude, unprofessional, disengaged behaviour of the personnel left me in shock . 2 customers in the store and the waiting time was 25 minutes!!!!! Definitely not going there again. Do not recommend it . The croissant was burnt and tea was cold ... but the nasty attitude of the ladies behind the counter was something one never would expect in the cafe or restaurant .
First time here was a total disappointment. The tiny bit of ice cream we got was delicious, but the customer service was AWFUL! We arrived 15 minutes until closing and were told toppings were closed. We were greeted with “attitude” and the overpriced $5+ scoops were ridiculously small which over all left a BAD TASTE in our opinion. So sad that your employees aren’t more willing to accommodate your customers.
THE ice cream place! Excellent selection and flavor
Sometimes welcoming but certainly they can do better. I mean the staff (meaning servers) are diverse but the ambiance is stiff because the crowd is not really diverse and this not so nice especially in the summer...you get looks like...(what on earth brought you here brownie) But JP licks is a classic chain ice cream store. Sort of like a ice cream Macdonalds. I guess I can say it neurodivergent friendly...I never felt any other discomfort.
Really good ice cream with fun and unique flavors. Their scoop sizes are generous. I really enjoyed the big pieces of coconut in my coconut chocolate chip ice cream.
Real creamy home made ice cream in the heart of Boston !!
Great flavors. Be careful ordering toppings....they are $1.10 each and really wish the staff would have told me that before we ordered 4 toppings. Besides that, pricing seemed normal for ice cream. Staff members were courteous. This location is down the street from The Boston Commons.
I liked the place it have a good vibe, also have reasonable prices, but the ice cream was really sweet for my personal taste
Its an ice cream place. Which means they are infallible and there for can do no wrong. 5 stars and I resent the accusation.
Loved the cookies and cream ice cream. Some of the best ice creams I have had.
Loved it im glad i got there when i did the line was out the door and around the corner
We have had multiple issues at JP licks, including incidents where we ordered ahead, and when we arrived, they said we couldn’t just go in and pick up, we had to wait for everyone in line to order and get served (despite that not being what it said on the website). They also have said they have a no service dogs allowed policy, which is against the law. We used to give this place a ton of business but based on the decline in staffing, it’s not worth it. I would recommend people get their ice cream in Boston from somewhere else with a more customer-oriented and welcoming atmosphere.
Alot of foot traffic but terrific non the less, these team members work hard and push through the crowd - always A+ for service . *They also are following Covid precautions and keeping lines short inside establishment.
Love the Ice cream but the Cupcakes Im in love with lol 🥰🥰
Good ice cream and solid service. Enjoyed it!
Ice cream is great but they always close earlier than ten by 10 minutes.
Never icy. Unique and diverse rotating flavors. The classics are well made. Worth the visit.
This whole area is cute! I love stopping in to J.P. Licks on a hot summer day. Highly suggest stopping in and walking around the area.
Yum. And on a good street, too!
When will we learn? Everytime were in Boston, we get icecream here. Everytime we get icecream here, one of us gets sick.
Great place for coffee and hot chocolate as you browse on Charles Street in Boston. As well as ice cream of course. Super friendly staff too🎅
Excellent ice cream
Classic jp licks shop. Open late . Great spot to scoot to . Grab ice cream and chill. Good variety of flavors. And the staff is always friendly. I live close by so I come here often. Fun place
First time here and it loved up to the hype! I will say I did not see the chocolate dipped cone advertised as an additional $2.10, but it is, and while it was tasty, it made licking the ice cream a hazard die to the shards of chocolate sticking up after I ate part of it. But I will definitely be back and just get a regular cone!!
Theyre drinks were not good. The service was bland
The holiday flavours are fun, especially the bourbon praline and the cherry amaretto
Tasty icecream.
Great tasting ice cream! They are always creating new flavors!
Great service, even during this epidemic 😷All my orders have been done correctly. Of course J.P. Licks is clean. It’s been clean since the 1980s. Customer service is always number 1 at the Charles Street shop. It’s my favorite ice cream in the world too 🍦🍨🥠☕️
Come for the ice cream, stay for the coffee.
Oh my god this ice cream is so good! I got the salted caramel cookies and cream ice cream and it was amazing! I never would have tried it if it werent for the super nice guy behind the counter that recommended it! Plus this place has a really cool vibe with lots of art on the walls from different artists!
Great ice cream but TERRIBLE customer service. The staff are incredibly rude. Also, if you order online, the staff still demands you wait in line so there’s no way to avoid them unfortunately. Wish JP licks put as much thought into their ice cream as they did in their hiring practices.
Made a mistake in my coffee 4 times in one try, charged me too much, and didnt give me the ice cream cones that I paid for. I wont be coming again.
Hands down the ice cream around the area — also the most popular place around Beacon Hill these days, especially with every dog-walker and parent stopping by. Its also the only shop thats open amidst corona.
Good; delicious.
My favorite ice cream place ever. They have ample non-dairy alternatives as well as plenty of creative and fun ice cream flavors. Many locations throughout the greater Boston area including the new one at Assembly Square. It is a must for our family to visit each time we are in the City regardless of the time of the year.
I usually don’t post negative reviews from any place, but this might be helpful for tourists. On April 2018, I decided to try the ice creams and coffees on this store, but my experience was terrible.I am NOT talking about the products, because they are great, I am talking about the STAFF ATTITUDE towards me and my wife, specially from a bold guy with beard and a left wrist tattoo who makes the coffees. If you run into him, that’s such a bad luck, cause I tried to ask about what was a “red eye coffee” and with bad faces, and bad humor he barely explained assuming that I am not an expert in it. For my bad luck, I ordered a large cappuccino and he gave me less than half of the big cup... when I asked why is that, he certainly responded worst than the first time that amount of liquid in all sizes of cappuccino are the same, that I should know from the beginning what kind of coffee do I want. So I asked: Why would they make three sizes of cup then?On a few words, is such a shame to have people like him in a such cool and great place. Maybe this will help new customers and owners to realize what it means client service.
Mint chip oat milk ice cream (yum) and peanut butter cookies and cream with fudge. This is such delicious ice cream any time of the year. I happened to be here when its 20F out and snow storming. Yep. Still delicious.
Get more than a lick of their ice cream. It’s delicious. They offer 3 non dairy options which is good. I was prepared with my lactose pills and went for their regular cookies n cream and their coffee cookies n cream. Delicious!
The ice cream isnt my favorite, but it still tastes good. The frozen yogurt options taste better than most yogurts Ive had, and the rotating monthly flavors are always fun to try. The reason this is 3 stars is that service has gone from good when it opened a few years ago to below average. I stop in enough for my daughter that Id expect to see familiar faces, but I dont. And the faces I see arent usually smiling or welcoming. Ive frequently wondered what the manager would say if she or he were on duty - and then I realize the manager is on duty.
A good place with an excellent menu, it is a pity that now you can not enjoy the atmosphere of the institution. But food can be ordered. I am waiting for the opening!
Really friendly service and delicious ice cream! A Boston friend recommended this place and Im so glad I decided to come. I got a larger serving that I shared with my companion, 3 generous scoops of Salted Caramel Cookies and Cream, Pistachio, and Cappuccino crunch--it was more than enough for both of us. Andy, the super friendly guy at the counter was really fun to talk to and helped me find flavors Id like, and was more than patient when I wanted a few samples. Do yourself a favor and sit in the nice seating area and watch the Beacon Hill neighborhood. Clean bathrooms too!
Yummy drinks
My favourite ice-cream is rum and raisin so I use this as my yardstick when comparing brands. I have to say the J P Licks has is up there with the best I have ever tasted. Full of raisins, creamy and with a real rum flavour - just delicious.
JP Licks is always awesome. They make their own ice cream and often have new flavors in addition to their regular ones. This site also sells coffee. I had peanut butter cookie dough, and did not regret it. Lastly, they staff here are so helpful, and are nice as can be.
Delicious ice cream. My party of six all agreed the flavors were excellent and there was enough of a variety to satisfy everyone. I recommend this stop, just south of the red line.
As the only dedicated ice cream shop in the immediate area, expect to wait in a lengthy line on a hot summer day, especially on weekends. The selection of unique flavors is lagging some of the more boutique ice cream shops that are quickly becoming more of a fixture, however, the flavors offered are delicious and deliver. The ice cream is pricey for what it is, albeit the servings are generous enough.
We stopped by for a quick break from sightseeing and a quick snack. The ice cream guy, dont remember his name, was super chill and very helpful. I had a chocolate cookie thing in vanilla ice cream. My girlfriend had a vegan chocolate almond ice cream. Both were excellent. Recommend this place. Wish I lived closer.
Fantastic ice cream and so many flavors to choose from! I love their non-dairy options- their soy based ice cream never disappoints. Their rewards program is very generous- I recommend joining as you might find yourself coming often once youve tried their stuff! Centrally located in Beacon Hill on Charles Street and only a very short walk from the MGH T stop.
Always clean and cozy. Ice cream is delicious. The servers are friendly and hardworking
This place is amazing. I would totally come here again in the summer for some amazing ice cream.
I’m quite particular when it comes to the quality of ice cream, and this place rates pretty high. Especially with the peanut butter cookies dough chip - the well balanced flavours, matched with the combination of textures is memorable.I agree with some of the other reviewers that the customer service wasn’t the best. No bad experiences, but there was one guy who really didn’t seem to want to be there.
Ice cream was great but spoons shouldnt be self serve.
David got me two coffees to go this morning. Coffee really good. David is great! His attitude put big smile on my face.
Average place..
JP Licks makes amazing ice cream, and this location is neat, and has great staff. On the other hand, the ice cream is pricey, and portions are small. Maybe thats actually a good thing. 😏
This place came by surprise for my brother and me. We fell upon it randomly and now I cant stop craving it. The unique flavors they bring combined with the wonderful staff just made this experience truly gives me the desire to travel here. Ill definitely be coming back ...
Just amazing, I really love their icecream. Its very creamy. Can only recommend this place!
Awesome ice cream. My fav salted caramel cookies and cream
I love J.P. Licks. This location hasn’t given me the greatest of all experiences. The flow when busy is tight and this summer when I went expressly for peach ice cream and waited 30 minutes in the line, they told me they were out when I ordered. It would be helpful to note things like that when it’s so busy and you’re offering limited time flavors. But the ice cream is delicious.
I still prefer their Harvard Square location but this one has an interesting twist. On a Friday afternoon you get great fun with one of their staff members singing and dancing in the cashier. Its uplifting! Their sound selection is awesome! Ice cream is good as well :)
I loved this place. The service was great, thanks soo much for making my day better!! I would recommend this to anyone! :)
One of my favorite ice cream chains in Boston! The Mayers run raising is a personal favorite of mine!
Place is nice and good coffee but when we were there was just one person on the cashier, same doing the coffee so it take really long (we were 6) to get the order all toghether. Also they could have some vegan option to eat.
Delicious ice cream, although it is on the pricey side. While you cant see the ice cream, you can still ask for tastes. Also, while the board says a small can only accommodate one flavor, I asked for two flavors in a small and the staff were happy to oblige. The establishment is kosher and offers dairy free options.
