I love shopping here- the vintage Japanese music playing in the background brought memories of growing up listening to my mom and the delicious authentic sushi tasted just like my mom made them brought me to tears- tears of love. Thank you for sharing- we are so grateful to find this beautiful store!

It may be a small store but its a nostalgic oasis for Japanese food products. Ive visited this store since I was a child (the early 90s) and its been a long standing staple for the Japanese community in the triangle. Larger Asian supermarkets may have sprung up in the area, but I always come back to Toyo Shokuhin to find the uniquely Japanese made products they dont stock.

So thrilled to find and support a local shop that is fully of so many wonderful goodies. From spices, to sweets, to the Japanese sweet potatoes I’m always on the look out for, to so much more. The sushi gift was such a nice touch and so appreciated. Glad I found this local treasure!

Toyo Shokuhin is small but mighty! Its aisles are stocked generously with sweets, snacks, noodles, spices, condiments, ingredients, and gifts. Always my first choice for Japanese groceries and ingredients. Staff is always friendly and many speak Japanese and English. Happy to have this shop in the Triangle!

What a cute little store! I love little local gems and this hit every note. Small business, family owned, lots of tasty snacks, and a very friendly store owner. I took some sushi/kimbap home after spending way too much time looking at their snack collection. Brought home an assortment of dried noodles (I’m excited to try these buckwheat noodles), way too many candies and cookies, and a pint of black sesame ice cream that I whole heartedly recommend. It’s only slightly pricier than H Mart or Grand Asia but I enjoy the lack of crowds and it’s a more serene shopping experience. I’ll be back when I’m on that side of town!

One of my new favorites. The staff is super friendly, the selection covers just about anything I would want to make Japanese food with, and there is an amazing selection of snacks. Not to mention they often give out free gifts like sushi or mochi if you spend a little extra which is always worth it to me. Absolutely one of my favorite places in the area.

This place is my favorite store to shop at. It has a great variety of items to buy, from Pocky, Hi-Chew, ramune, large bottles of ramune, lemon soda, matcha ice cream, mochi, tea, coffee, noodles, pastes, sauces, meats, its all there. My last visit, I got an AWESOME dark chocolate, a lemon soda, royal milk tea, coffee milk, chocolate Pocky, and three bread buns. Ive also bought coffee Pocky here before, but Im sure its a seasonal item (it tasted amazing, by the way). The only criticism I have is that not everything has a label, but it can be pretty easy to guess the price (you can be sure that a single-serve drink will be between $1.79 and $2.79).I love the sushi and mochi freebies I get in the checkout. The mochi is, in my opinion, really good quality and the sushi are big and tasty.(P.S. You can also get alcohol from this store, and my brother really likes the options they have.)All in all, whether youre shopping for ingredients, indulging in Japanese sweets, buying Japanese decor/dishes for your home, or whatever, this store is such a good choice!

Small but wonderful. I love looking for Japanese specialties here. The people are wonderful and they have some products other than food that I cant find most places. Grand Asia and Hmart are much larger if you want to do a variety of Asian/Pacific groceries and products but if you mostly want Japanese Id recommend Toyo Shoyuhin.

Great little Japanese food storeSmall, but a pretty good selection of Japanese produce and packaged goods. I wish we had a slightly larger Japanese food store in the area, but Toyo Shokuhin is very good for the size. Its a family-run store, and the people here are VERY friendly and helpful. They always have good, fresh packaged pastries imported from Japan (right aisle, toward the front). The Hokkaido cream is very good.

I love this authentic asian market. The owner and her family are always a pleasure. I never have to worry about things being expired. Everything is fresh and up to date. Today my daughter was with me and the sweet lady let her choose a koala cookie. I have a few stores where I live, none of them give me the experience Toyo Shokuhin does. Even though its smaller, the quality here out weighs them all. Thank you for your continued service to your community and to mine as well.(guilford county)

Awesome little Japanese grocery store! My wife is from Japan, and I was stationed in mainland for 2 years. This is one of the best places in RTP for Japanese products, thats actually Japanese owned and operated. This place may not have everything people are looking for. But if you are Japanese person living near Raleigh and looking for somewhere to get Japanese groceries, or you are just someone who enjoys Japanese food/culture, this is the place for you. Plus they will usually give out free sushi and daifuku to people buying stuff on weekends (though I think you have to spend a certain amount). This place is fantastic. I can find a fair amount of imported Japanese food and ingredients that just arent available anywhere else in Raleigh. Its a small shop so the selection is impacted, but they still carry a wide variety of imported food and fresh ingredients necessary for true Japanese cooking. They have some of the best miso and bean paste Ive come across outside of Japan. They dont have much of a beer or sake selection, but they have the basics - Asahi, Sapporo and Kirin.
