This was the worst experience I have ever had at a beauty supply store. They watched me very closely and i was the only one in the store. That should have told me to leave. I took a phone call while in the store and she told me I can’t be on MY phone in the store and tried to argue with me about either buying something or leaving. Mind you I was taking my time refill my hair products but I’m glad I didn’t buy anytime from there. Very rude and ignorant people. Never go here. They do not deserve our service. They barely deserve one star.

I will never go to this beauty supply store again! They are rude! The hair is old and the place is dusty for them to be so mean to customers! I was looking for a ponytail in the right color but all of the pony tails are behind the counter and cover with mannequins and the cashier for mad because I was asking to see different pony tails but the samples were all covered behind the counter. then she started talking in a different language aggressively to the other worker. I will never go here again! I forgot to add the ponytail was twice the price as other stores!

I made a purchase in which I wanted to put 2 items back the first transaction went through and I didn’t receive a refund and when I tried to get it back they told me my visa card was not a real card and to call the police if I wanted my money back. THEY ARE THIEVES DONT SHOP HERE.

I dont know why people saying the store is bad . i come here every month or 2 to get my hair. some things can be a little high but its not a problem, she gives you free stuff sometimes.

I dont understand the purpose of this store. There is nothing in it. The space is very tight and the little products that they carry are outdated. Just sell the store, its for your own good.

Honestly, I didn’t have a negative experience as far as being followed or told something negative. They just really don’t have anything lol everything i needed they didn’t have.

I went to this beauty supply against my better judgement, and found the other negative reviews to be true. I was continously followed around the store while shopping for hair for box braids and the husband even made an insensitive comment about the amount of hair that I was buying (something along the lines of “wow you’re gonna buy all that??) The entire interaction was weird & unsettling & showed that the owners have no cultural understanding of the demographic that shops there. And yes, while the wife is some what cordial, it doesn’t make up for her racist husband following people around and making them feel criminalized. If this wasn’t the only beauty supply in Hyde Park, I swear they would have 0 customers. Can’t wait until a nice hair store opens up in HP (hopefully black owned) and puts them out of business.

I was followed around and made to feel like a criminal at Viking Beauty Supply Store on East Hyde Park Blvd between Harper and S. Blackstone. I explained that I had no intention of stealing and that I was an Ivy League graduate with several degrees. Something that I need not do. She also doubted the validity of my credit card and snatched back the goods that I had bought. I was so surprised by the encounter. Other customers in the store were mortified at my treatment. It was unbelievable. When I confronted the owners of the store about the situation, calmly and honestly, saying that I was offended by the way I was treated, they conveniently stated that they didnt speak English; They gestured for me that they didnt want to hear anymore and chose to walk away. I was in search of acknowledgement about situation and an apology, but they refused to even listen to my concerns. At that moment, I felt powerless. I called the police and they promptly responded. Their suggestions and shared sentiments, while immediately didnt address the situation, did give me a sense of resolve. As the officers and I spoke, I explained that it is unacceptable for a store in a predominately African American neighborhood, that services Black women, and is located directly across the street from a high school to treat the residents of the community like they are criminals. Its disgusting. Our community members should not be criminalized in their own communities. They have a right to protect their merchandise, but they do not have the right to criminalize people.

This place is disgraceful - I would give it five NEGATIVE stars. I cannot understand how a business can sell products to the very people that one of the owners clearly fears/hates. I was followed around the store like I was going to steal one of their cheap products. I was the only person in the store. I did not have a purse, bag, or even pockets, but the man stared me down from the time i walked in and asked him for assistance until he shut the door on my face. The owner was so close to me that I thought he was going to put his hands on me. The provocation on his part made me fearful for patrons who have slightly less self-control. This man should not have the privilege to make money off of Black -beauty in a predominantly Black community. If you have self-respect, PLEASE DO NOT SHOP HERE!

Idk where the negative comments are from, but Ive lived in Hyde Park for 2 1/2 yrs and I currently live across the street from Vikings and I stop in there every once in a while. When I first visited the place last year I lived on 55th and walked. The owner saw how hot it was and my face melting so she gave me a free fan😂. I still carry it to this day. Everytime I come in, the lady behind the counter is very nice. Ive actually never seen her come from behind the counter which is weird people are saying they get followed around. I know a man is now working in there, but hes never followed me. They dont have a good selection of products but I stay across the street so I only go if I need something quick. I do like the lady though, shes always nice to me. Im sorry everyone else has such a bad experience here.

I wish I could give this place no stars but you have to give them at least one. I have been wanting to go into this store for a long time. But for some reason it kept falling off my mind. I want to call ahead to make sure that they had the hair I was looking before i got there. When I call the lady that answer the phone was very rude. She started saying some things I didnt understand. All I wanted to know what did she have the hair that I was looking for. She went on and on talking about I dont know what and then on top of that she had The Audacity to hang up!! I tried to call back to get a better understanding of what had just happened and no one answered the phone. So whoever the owner is of this store you just lost out on me coming to your store and ever thinking about spending my money at your business establishment.

I was very hesitant about going to this beauty supply after reading the reviews. But I had little to no other options. There was no negative energy at all I was treated fairly. No complaints. No compliments.

I love this beauty supply store. They are really friendly and yea they do keep a heavy eye on you..but I understand why..it wasnt uncomfortable lol. And I tend to spend a lot of money whenever I go but even when I dont she always gives me something free..like jewelry or something for hair. Shes the sweetest lady!! Idk what these reviews are talking about!!

I’ve been getting beads for my daughters here for about 5 years. There’s a couple that runs it. The husband is rude but the wife is amazing. She always gives my girls little trinkets when we come.

Rude and racists! How can you have a black hair store in a black neighborhood and then follow your black costumers around as if they are criminals? Your doors will be close permanently very soon I am sure!

This place should have been closed down 5 yrs ago. It is always in shear disarray, and the customer service is piss poor. I called to inquire about a particular product and was hung up on. There are far too many beauty supply stores to ever subject yourself to this sorry excuse for one.
