I had my road bike tuned up here a few months ago. Riding has been very smooth ever since. Pricing was very fair. I had rode my bike regularly in college, but it had been tucked away in a garage for a few years after I graduate. Rides just like it used to.My partner bought a used bike recently and went here to get it into riding shape, they did a great job with her bike as well. When the chain was squeaking, we took it back and they had the issue corrected in just a few minutes.
Amazing staff and the owner runs a really knowledgeable bike shop. They service ebikes and electric bikes with their expert e-bike mechanic David! Thank you Robert’s bicycle shop - definitely my new go-to spot for electric bike tuning, repairs, and parts. They also have amazing mechanics for regular bikes, and none of that “we only service certain brands” attitude. If it has two wheels, they got you!
It feels amazing to support a local business that truly values servicing the community. I was thrilled to stop by and get my bike tuned up and loved on. Both gentlemen were professional and friendly. I believe one of them was the owner. He was seeking ways to make my repairs more affordable and not trying to rip me off! I definitely took note of that! My bike was repaired in less time then mentioned. I definitely would be back!
I bought a used bike that needed fixed up and I brought it here. I paid a little more than I wanted, but I think they did a really great job and I feel safe riding my bike. Also, I noticed a chirping/squeaking sound while riding after they worked on it, and I brought my bike in within the 45 day window to have them take a look and they oiled the thing that was making the noise.I saw some reviews saying theyre rude, but I think theyre just understaffed and just kind of quiet people working there. My receipt said that Carlos worked on my bike, and he was friendly to me! Ill continue coming here :)
I’ve been here twice and both times it seemed as if I was invisible. I walked in and was not greeted or spoken to by anyone. The person working literally walked around me and said not a word. Then a very nice white woman walks in and he greeted her and let her know that he would be with her shortly. If you’re black just go somewhere else they clearly don’t think we ride bikes or spend money. And they don’t care for our business.
Old guy overcharged me for a tube after making a big deal about double checking to make sure he put in the right price. like dude, you charged me $9, then refunded me $9 and charged me $13 instead. I checked my card history - its just a couple bucks, but cmon, Id just told you I worked as a mechanic - I know what these things cost. Ill go elsewhere in the future.
What a great group of people that work there. Went out of their way on a holiday to help us get a new inner tube. Will definitely go there again!
This is the only review I have made (and probably will make), but I really wanted to let people know that the service at Roberts Cycle Shop was outstanding. The honesty whilst assessing required repairs, the perfect work and the fair price were really everything I had hoped for.I picked my road bike up today, went for around 25 miles and it is running as smooth as never before. Super happy about that!Thank you for the good work, I really appreciate it!
A phenomenal bike shop: friendly, honest, and remarkably inexpensive. Unlike many places, theyll try to fix before replacing, and their mechanical work is top-notch. An invaluable asset for riders of any level.
After calling several local shops I’m glad I decided to take my brake repair to Roberts of my Raleigh cadent. They seem very experienced and quoted me a fair price. I hope to bring my kids huffy in for a fix too, soon. Thanks guys!
Ive got a 60+ year old JC Higgins bike, Austrian-built that Id like to restore. They recognized the vintage immediately. Got some good advice from Roberts Cycle shop on how to start. Appreciate it!
Great place to get your bike fixed.
They were very helpful in finding me a great used bike that fit me well. I’m loving my “new” 1988 Miyata! Very knowledgeable staff.
Reliable work with fair prices. Turnover can take a while due to a high volume of customers.
Very nice guys. Professional friendly business
I’m not sure what these reviews claiming a friendly staff are referring to. They’re very understaffed and it took 5 minutes of being in the store to even be greeted by someone. I had called about a repair earlier in the day and the person who answered was very rude, and was even ruder when I came in person to drop off my bike. I had a lot of anxiety going to get my bike repaired as I’m not very knowledgeable, but this shop made me feel stupid and was very unhelpful. I chose to not give them my money that day and will not be trying again in the future.
They’re thieves
Great local bike shop. They can fix anything
Finally! A bike shop that actually appreciates vintage bicycles. An honest suggestion on how to repair damage to my bottom bracket issue. Even found a tool I needed. My new go to bike shop. Even knows the difference French threads and British. Thanks a lot!
Old fashioned bike store filled with parts and people who live bikes. Brought two old bikes in for repair, one they adjusted for free and the other they went through all the things that needed doing and priced it out but told me that they didnt think it was worth the amount of money it would cost. Im planning on buying a reconditioned bike from them instead. Honest and fairly priced.
Friendly staff. Fair prices. Conveniant location.
Roberts is open year round. Whats that worth? I ride all winter so need to keep my bike in good condition--well lubed, with good brakes and fresh knobby tires. I would hate to go the winter without them.
Dedicated bike people here. The owner and staff really get it! Bought a bicycle from Roberts three years ago and now I come back for a yearly tune-up and the occasional flat fix. Wont take my bike anywhere else.
Amazing bike shop, I had a great communication with one of the employees Hispanic guy forgot his name sorry 😂But any who I had to get a new front wheel and back tube . Had a lot of choices of front wheels just went with the basic . Any who he gave me advice on the bike safety issues etc since I build my own bike up with different parts of bikes . Very smart employee, Ill be coming back to this store if other issues come up . 5+ stars, Love it !!!
They dont have extensive technical expertise. They had two people working there, but said they needed to wait for the manager to get off the phone to confirm what was wrong with it. It was a simple derailleur problem so its a bit odd that two employees werent sure what to do about it. Theyre prices are competitive and they are honest and helpful if youre in the area and need immediate work, but I wouldnt go to them for major repairs.
Now that the bike season is starting I needed major upgrade on my bike - pedals, seat, and the brakes. I went to several places and because my bike is kind of old, the other folks didnt have the parts. Roberts has everything so if you cant find parts anywhere else, chance is that Roberts will have it. Thumbs UP!
The owner of this shop is a PRO.I had a rare 1969 bike made in Spain.Nobody else had the proper tool needed to remove the crank and work on it for me, that is until I got to Roberts. They can do what other bike shops cant.I was VERY impressed by this shop and the prices are affordable.
Friendly yet unprofessional. I was given a repair completion time of one week. When I arrived I was told repairs had not started. The individual even made a joke about planning to start the repair but not starting them. I was given a new competition. The following day at 1pm. Repairs were not completed and the bike had only begun to be worked on. This is unfortunate. Due to this stores lack of professional I missed one of few opportunities to hang out with a friend and a whole day of riding. At no point did the store call me to inform me of the lateness.
This a very good place l like
Had a really good experience adding struts to hold the battery above the back wheel and adding a back wheel gear clamp to prevent the chain from falling off on a used prodeco electric bike, at a very reasonable price. They also adjusted the seat at no extra charge. Didnt overcharge based on what they thought I could afford, and didnt make unnecessary repairs. Planning to get other repairs done here in the future.Dave
So my bike got a flat back tire. I called Roberts and asked how much to repair. I told them it takes air but goes flat after a ride. I was told $15.I walk the bike over to the shop and had a guy look over the bike. I believe this guy was different than the one I spoke to over the phone. Regardless, the one in the suspenders is a big time scammer and thought I was an idiot. All of the sudden my $15 tire repair turned into $165 dollars. I kept telling him as he was going over everything I just want my tire fixed. I can do my own tune up and if I couldnt I would just buy the $69 tune up at the other shop in rogers park. I took a look at his itemization and noticed he had $36 for the tire repair. What happened to $15? So it more than doubled and then he found $140 some dollars of more work he wanted to do on it. I told him politely (I didnt let him know I was aware he was trying to scam me) that I wasnt spending $165 plus tax for a bike that he told me when I came in was maybe worth $150 fixed up. So then he said..fine take it out of here.So I did.
Their mechanics cannot do anything beyond simple repairs. They seemed to be baffled by my 2009 Jamis road bike. Basically they had my bike for a week (despite being told it would be a couple of days) and when I finally called them I was told the mechanic who knows how to work on road bikes wouldnt be in until Thursday. ANY bike mechanic should have been able to work on the issue I was having. The guy said the mechanic that was there that day could look at it, but I did not get a warm feeling from the sound of the guys voice.I ended up being quoted $260 for replacement parts (that they could not even order because they are not an authorized dealer). I told them I would just come get the bike and take it to my regular LBS even though its ten miles away from where I live now. When I went to pick it up the guy was giving me some ridiculous story about the $260 quote coming from some bike repair seminar he went to like four years ago. I had no idea what he was talking about and neither did he.I am writing this review for people that have newer, more expensive bikes. This is not the shop you want to take your bike to. I should have trusted my gut and gone to my old shop because it is completely night and day the level of service and knowledge I received from each. Was without my bike for a week and it was a complete waste of my time.***UPDATE*** I took my bike into my regular shop on Sunday and they had it back to me Monday afternoon. They charged me $12 for the repair. I dont even want to think about what Roberts would have done to my bike.
A real bike shop like you remember going to as a kid! They dont try up sell you, the prices are reasonable (labor is a bit high😉) and they stand by the work. The guys working there are bike guys! All around a good experience and will definitely come back again!
Talk about being insulted!!! Been coming here for the past 10 years after buying a bike from them twice last bike was purchased 4-5 years ago. Came in today inquiring about trading in my very well taken care of bike for a lighter bike. A nice gentleman assisted me in selecting a bike that was last year’s model. Bike was exactly what I was looking for light, had scratches but did not matter to me. I asked the guy how much it would cost me with a trade in and he said he could not tell me how much because the owner is the one that makes decisions and that I should bring in the bike and the owner will be there after lunch. Came back an hour later with my bike and the same nice gentleman who helped me checked out my bike and agreed that aside from little things here and there the bike is in good condition. It appears that the owner is not there so he called him and told him about my inquiry. After he hanged up the phone he then notified me that the owner is willing to pay $25 for my bike towards the trade in! $25!!!! really!!! Then the nice gentleman told me to put it on Craigslist and that I can probably get $150-200 for the bike hmmmmm! I guess I’ll be going somewhere else for any bike related issues from now on! Talk about being insulted and what a disappointment!
Nice attended
I asked the bike shop to change my bike tire and they decided to use a drill to over tighten the lug nuts I have a fixed speed bike and now my lug nuts are almost stripped and my chain is much looser and even tho I just got a new lock ring and cog for back wheel and new chain because of how tight they tightened lug nuts I can’t get the wheel off and the wheel itself is positioned in the wrong spot causing the chain to rub and when I spoke to them at the bike shop about it they lied and said the pulled it all the wayI hated this bike shop profoundly fake and rude and made my bike worse
Grew up a mile away so went to his dad as a kid. Now I go, cause I can depend on them to know how to fix my 1972 Gitane, still make in France. There was a Schwinn dealer a couple miles away down the street, so Roberts, it turns out, took everything else, including French and Italian bikes. Still has some parts sitting around also. A treasure.
Got free air for my tires from them the other day! Charming old place. They also greased my chain for free and we chatted some about Chicago history and architecture. Wish there were more places like this around Chicago!
I brought my bike in here to get a tune up for spring/summer. The owner after looking at my bicycle says I have bad bearing cones and it will cost 200 to 300 dollars to build new wheels telling me he could not get the cones that I needed. Not only was he trying to rip me this way when I rode the bike the next day my gears were not indexed properly and I could not shift properly. 75 bucks down the drain for a tune up. Took my bike to the bike lane and they fixed my cones for 60 dollars. Go to the bike lane.
Really rude and unfriendly behavior. I brought my new bike which I bought online for adjustments, the old guy scolded me for buying the bike online instead I should have bought it from them. Then, he wanted to charge 95$ for it. I took my bike to the other bike shop and they charged me 40$ with no problem. I dont recommend anyone going here unless you are desperate.
Very good workmanship.
IF there would be 0 stars I would give it to these guys. I came yesterday to drop off my bike so they can find out the issue for my back wheel motorized bicycle. The guy told me we will give you a call in the morning I came in the shop @2pm and the guy made me stand a whole 15 minute chit chatting with his employee and I was still standing until he seen me and started talking about what I wanted. I told him I dropped my bike last nigh and he was giving me tips about motorized bicycle and my whole question isnt about my motorized bicycle it was about my back wheel excel. The guy started to give attitude and told me to step away. After all that disrespect I toke my bike and threw his card they gave me in the garbage. The worst place youd ever go for Bicycle advice.Absolutely the worst customer service ever.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff!
Bought my new bike, rather go to a bike shop thats been around 1935. Great service and Richard and Gary are great!! Looking to get another bike. Ill see you this week.
Fantastic place to buy a bike or get one repaired.
Always a pleasure!
Good service, but expensive. They also take a week to service a bike. I wish they could be faster.
They will try to rip you off. They make up a bunch of stuff to try and sell you, and charge very high prices for service.
Thank You Everyone over at Roberts Cycles
Has air pump outside.
A total rip off.
Awesome place
