No bad interactions at Working Bikes, this time was no exception. My back wheel was stolen around the neighborhood (keep an eye on your quick release wheels), and Ace got my bike working again. Dare I say better than before. Beautiful bikes for sale, awesome knowledgeable people who love bikes on deck, and good prices. Definitely make an appointment before you go. Thanks again, Ace.
Working Bikes continues to be an excellent, community centered space that support everyone riding a bike. I took my twins to make sure their bikes, purchased at Working Bikes, were adjusted to their size/height. They not only helped but also encouraged my kids to fix their own bike seats, add a kickstand and learn how to fix their own bikes. Plus, I appreciated their COVID safety precautions. They also worked to get a bike that was better suited for the specific height of one of my twins. I was so thankful for their generous time and patience I made an additional donation. Highly encourage everyone supporting Working Bikes!!
Wrecked my bike on the streets of Chicago during a down pour of rain coming home from work had to get a bike quick to avoid taking the CTA.Budget was $250-$275Craigslist- get a bike for a fairly decent price and spend another hundred on new cables tires etc. labor not included diyOnline - Buy a cheap bike on line and spend another $75 bucks on replacing seat, pedals, grips etc. labor not included diyWorking Bikes - Picked up a bike from their website which I knew was on the small size ... Showed up the employee brought the bike out and helped me to get this bike to work for me, couldnt be more thankful for his help. The quality of the bike and the work put into to make run again was awesome!!! You can tell the bike mechanics did their job extremely well. The bike has some scratches, guessing late 1980s frame who cares, Im from the 1970s ... gives it some character. I have a family of5 now I no where to go to get a good running bike at a decent price. Thanks Working Bikes!
I was recommended this place by a bike store and was excited to see it and view the bikes. Upon arrival, the staff seemed slugish and reluctant to help. I asked to see some bikes but was told to decide on one to buy and then they would bring it out. I picked one, waited for someone to wobble out just to tell me it’s been sold. I asked to see another bike and the staff girl just told me it’d be too tall for me and walked away unbothered. I almost felt as if they didn’t want to sell any bike to me. The other staff girl was asking me not to lean on the laptop too much. I apologize for wanting to search through the selection of the bikes you didn’t seem to want to sell to me. Im dissapointed and will search for bikes on craigslist i guess
Working Bikes is an excellent organization! I went in yesterday to find a bike and the very first one I was shown was a 70s blue Schwinn! Absolutely gorgeous! I shared my story of having a blue Schwinn as a child and my bike being stolen. It fit me perfect. They let me test ride throughout the store. I was given a brand new lock for my bike and shown how to use it along with other features on my bike. Devon and her co-workers were amazing and very helpful! I will definitely be back in! I highly recommend this place to anyone in search of a good bike and great service with a smile! Thank you all so much I love my new bike!
This place is a heaven for bike. I love shopping here. An every one wants too help.
Mikey was amazing, he went above and beyond! I came in with my step son to get him a starter bike and Mikey made sure we got what we needed! 😊 theyve earned a customer for life!
Excellent bike shop with great selection of hot-pink bicycle accessories. My bikes are much cuter now for having passed through these walls.
When I have nothing better to do at home, I head to this bike shop. This bike shop is one of my favorites since they provide the greatest bike service in town.
When are you going to completely open up to the public?... Chicago already at phase 5 and fully restored to allow everything open, its obvious youre the only business out there whos still paranoid over this covid nonsenseGuess Ill just go out of my way elsewhere from now on.
Bought a bike here and I absolutely love it - it’s genuinely changed my life for the better and I ride it everywhere.A couple of weeks after purchase I noticed my gears starting to slip more and more so I contacted the service department to ask about the issue. Josh replied straight away telling me to bring it over at a specific time and when I took it in he fixed the problem free of charge within about 15 minutes. My bike now rides like a dream and Josh and all the other members of the team could not have been more friendly and helpful. In addition to this it’s clear that they do a lot for the local community and beyond.I will definitely be recommending Working Bikes to any of my friends looking for a second hand bike to get them round the city.
Great place to find a bike. Very nice and helpful people.
Buying and picking up were easy (bought during covid and the contactless pickup was simple). Bike is great and properly tuned up.
The best bicycle shop in the city. Wonderful staff, cool atmosphere, and they genuinely care about the people who they serve.
SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT ONLINE!!THEY WONT TAKE WALK INS.
They are currently closed to the public but you can check out their available cool bikes on their website and pickup curbside. I bought a Trek 7000 in a beautiful Purple color yesterday and so far it’s a blast to ride! Can’t wait to get outta work to give it another go
Due to covid19, we were unable to walk around a pick a bike for my son. Instead we purchased from the website. Made a couple of calls before purchasing and the staff was always patient and nice. When we pick up my son bike (curb side pick up) they had the bike ready and gave us some instructions. Dont waste your time at places, just buy from working bikes. Be safe everyone.
Theres so many cool things about this place but Ive been going here for years and every used bike I buy doesnt last me a year without a major issue occurring and the mechanics are all completely incompetent. I cant, in good faith, recommend this place to anyone for anything anymore.
I believe in recycling!! Working bikes donate bikes to some countries were folks has no access to proper transportations. I admire their work. So i buy my bike here to use for homecare job in downtown. I believe as Physical therapist that i will promote wellness, less carbon foot print. Minimizing use if gas, metals, and other stuff that pollutes the might help this planet. Also, cardio exercise with bikes helps improve overall being!!
Amazing service, amazing prices. Cannot ask for more. Summer is really busy with long turnaround times (1-2weeks), but winter I had my bike fixed within an hour. My go-to spot.
Always a great experience.
It eas ok but should be every day onstead of one day
Amazing prices! Friendly staff. Best place to visit if you are into building and restoring bikes!
I had a great experience here. Very nice place. Friendly and helpful. I enjoyed being there. Will most definitely be back. Great staff. 😊
First time going to Working Bikes and was amazed at not only the wide selection of bikes, but also the affordable prices. After browsing the store floor and finding what we liked, we approached the front desk and spoke with Kiki, who demonstrated a clear passion for biking. She was very helpful, funny and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend coming here for those who are searching for a bike!
Great place to get a good bike for a great price. The place is filled with great deals on bikes. The customer service is really great too. I was helped by Keke. She was very helpful and knowledgeable about the bikes. I will definitely be back for my other bike needs.
Great experience! Found the bike I wanted and everyone one was helpful and accommodating. I will def come back. Happy to support a worthy cause
Wonderful place. Got my first bike here and it changed the way I live. They really started me out with quality - Ive had it for 8 years and with regular tune-ups, shes as good as ever. This old Trek Antelope has paid for itself a hundred times over. Go check out Working Bikes. Everyone Ive ever pointed their way has been satisfied.
I had a great experience here. Keke helped me pick out my very first road bike and a year later I brought it in for some maintenance and I was pleasantly surprised to find her still working there. She was just as kind and gentle as she was the first time, especially with me being a beginner when it comes to road bikes. I recommend this organization when it comes to purchasing a new bike or just getting some maintenance done.
Great place! Super down to earth employees. Excellent prices and service. Highly recommend Working Bikes.
Great!
This is a very good bicycle shop. Bought a great racing bike there for cheap, in wonderful condition. I came back in because the saddle was not quite right and they fixed it for free. They also have all other equipment you might want to add, like helmets and other safety gear. The people are very competent and its clear they love bicycles. Hope this shop continues to thrive!
Kiki and all the staff at working bikes have been so kind and helpful. They have a super chill ambiance so there arent any salespeople hounding you to buy something. Im very pleased with my bicycle. Sending many thanks to the staff at working bikes.
I called working bikes on Sunday in hopes of finding my 2.5 year old girl a bike. Not only did they have a perfect sized bike for our daughter but the folks working there had it all ready, air in the tires and training wheels on before we arrived. The staff is truly helpful and you can tell they are working for a purpose. Great Chicago Business with Great Chicago People working there. I highly suggest buying a bike or donating your old one. Big Ups Working Bikes! Thanks again
Kiki was extremely helpful! Best service I’ve ever had at a bike shop. Will definitely be coming back.
When it comes to great service at a very low price this place is second to none ! I brought my bike in because of my brakes going out on me and my chain in bad condition. These guys were fast and efficient took them less than an hour to get me out of there. They also were polite and answered all of my questions. Very informative staff, and all goes to a great cause, I love the fact they donate to less fortunate individuals around the world.
Its cool they donate so many bikes. Really nice people working there. The bikes are very overpriced compared to what youll find at other shops or on CraigsList. We tried to trade in a bike for credit towards a new one and they werent willing to do that (something they should consider because other shops do that). A guy in the shop who goes there a lot told us not to get work done there because they charge a lot more than other places. We got a bike and there were issues with the tire falling off. Almost got in an accident twice while riding it. We werent able to return it, we had to get in store credit and get a different bike. The bike selection is a lot of older bikes that are heavier and dont look great. Maybe Ive just always had good luck at other bike shops and gotten good deals on CraigsList, but shopping here was not a great experience and I wont go back. I guess its fine if you dont mind paying a lot of money for an old bike thats going to fall apart and is dangerous to ride.
BUY YOUR BIKE HERE!1) This place does super cool work and your money will go towards a great cause.2) The staff rocks. Kiki helped me out big time and made finding a bike super easy. When I told her I was new to Chicago, she even gave me a free Working Bikes pint glass and told me welcome to Chicago!3) Its got a great selection of bikes and an in-house repair shop. They have every accessory you would need when buying a bike (locks, lights, helmets, etc) and for great prices.4) Everything is fixed up very nicely and is affordable compared to other bike shops.THANK YOU WORKING BIKES!
Interesting storefront? 😷 Such a bad experience 👎🏻
Bought a sweet urban assault ride bike there recently. The selection of bicycles is outrageously amazing, the prices are so affordable and the staff is incredibly helpful.Kiki and Patrick were incredibly patient, kind and fantastic in helping me with my selection and answering all of my questions. Absolutely wonderful people.Working bikes is a true community of people working together to provide for our city. We might live in a big city but it feels like a sort of mechanical, creaky home away from home in there. LONG LIVE WORKING BIKES!
You can find there whatever you are looking for with a very cheap prices and reasonable quality. The service staff there are really awesome and they pay so much attention to the small details in your bike. This place became my go-to bike service workshop :)
I love working bikes! By far one of the best bike shops Ive been to in chicago. I purchased my bike here a year ago and have had no problems with it so far! I also love their humanitarian efforts.
A nice volunteer helped me pick my bike. It has been about 20 years since Ive owned a bike. Glad to support an awesome organization and am excited to decrease my carbon footprint!
Great staff, volunteer-based. Great place to fix/buy bikes at a reasonable price. They are known for their outreach work in providing free bikes to kids and adults.
Horrible horrible I repeat horrible service still can’t believe racism still exists and it does very much exist in this place ! They charge you high prices based on the color of your skin if your not white expect to be charged a ridiculous amount of money my “Caucasian” friend and I both had the same work done on our bikes and let me add that we have the EXACT same bikes before you think oh maybe price was different due to the type of bike NO same bike same problem and work done he ends up paying $50 and I got charged $120!? All because the color of my skin I am very shocked and disappointed after all the so called “good reviews” big thumbs down! 👎🏼 So you can’t tell me that isn’t racism same bike same problem same work done!
I had a problem with my bike and I thought I was going to cost an arm and leg however it was just a matter of screwing some screws to fix it. The guys fixed it at no charge. Great service and definitely recommending this place!!!!
It was an amazing experience buying my bike at Working Bikes. The stuff was very helpful and kind, specially Keke. All of them seem very experienced and knowledgeable, so I felt very confident with my decision. I definitely recommend this place to buy a bike.
An amazing place to get anything you need to build and fix your bike from ring locks, bearing, screws to forks, frames, and rims and also they sell ready to ride bikes too. Go visit them someday and receive a warm welcome.
Went in as a complete newb to the road bike world. Staff was crazy friendly, open, not judgemental. Hooked me up with great bike, threw on some new tires, and made sure everything was adjusted for my height. Great affordable price, half the starting price of other shops. Highly recommend checking them out!!
I came in about two weeks ago, and while I did not end up purchasing a bike... The service here is phenomenal. Kiki/Keke was with me for at least an hour trying to help me find the right bike for someone of my height. We must have gone through close to 10 bikes and she was super chill and understanding about what I liked and disliked about for each bike we tried. We also struggled a bit because trying to find the right fit for various bikes was difficult. Still, this shop is amazingly friendly and its got a very chill vibe. I highly recommend it if youre a noob and need help trying to find something you like. The only reason I did not make a purchase was because again finding the right fit is tricky, but I really felt listened to and did not feel pressured to make a purchase. The intent I felt was helpful one in which they wanted to help me find, what styles and what measurements I should be looking for in the future.
I love working bikes!! Recommend to all my friends!!! Prices are amazing and you are sure to find a unique bike that will last you a long long time. :-)
Such a great place to be in. Great atmosphere. Amazing staff. If you go there to volunteer it is a great experience too.
Always awesome. Treated like family. Skilled bike professionals. They play the best music too.
I bought my bike here two years ago, and I have used it almost every day since. I couldnt have found a better bike for less money anywhere else in the city, and I love knowing my purchase will fund their wonderful mission to bring bikes to deserving people all over the city.
Extremely helpful and informative staff. Keke hand outstanding service since the moment I walked into the shop. Will definitely come back.
Kiki was the best help I could ever ask for! She made buying a new bike so easy and stress free! Would recommend this place to anyone!!
Great bike repair service and knowledge. Always have confidence that customers receive great attention! Thanks Working Bikes.
Why in the world would I take the western bus from the north side all the way down here to get my bike fixed? Because its worth it. Love the idea of this place. donating bikes to other countries that need them. Volunteers working. Just a really cool place with really cool people. Id volunteer myself if I wasnt so far away, but I bought my last two bikes here and will keep coming back. They really take care of you.
Great community resource and the best place in Chicago to buy a used bike or parts.
Nice staff! Truly accommodating to their customers needs, and a big shout out to Kiki, the nice woman who helped me find a bike Id like to purchase!
Amazing place. They have everything you need to repair your bicycle or get a new one for a reasonable price.
Best bike shop I have been to. This place is amazing and have any and everything that your bike can need
OMG I just had a best experience here. Second time I have gotten a bicycle at Working Bikes and I never want to go anywhere else. Not only are the salespeople knowledgeable and helpful, but they are also SUPER patient and sweet. As someone who doesnt know a whole lot about bikes they made me feel very welcome. Kiki helped me and she was the bomb! Helped me find what I was looking for and even stayed late to help me change out my bike rack and seat and make sure I had a bike I was happy with. Just overjoyed, and spent less than $200 on a bike that I know is going to last me and work well with commuting around the city. Thank you Working Bikes!!!
They do great community work, and provide a good value for bike sales and service!
Always a treat going in this place, never disappointed when I go here, lower prices than anywhere else in the chicago
I recently went to working bikes on western an all I can say is thank u guys for everything its a employee name Keke ask for her she is truly amazing and she helped me out so much thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you did today#i love working bikbi my first time going it want be my last time coming thank you so much
This place is amazing......i bought a bike here and the staff was not only accomodating, but made sure my bike was the way i wanted it. they do their best to fit the bike to you, and for pricing on a used bike, they are pretty darn good when you have shopped around for used bikes and want a second bike, in no hurry, and find that not only do they have the best prices, best service, but also a staff that actually knows bikes.
Great service! Huge shop with tons of parts. I walked in needing a repair, I walked out with a fixed bike, at a great price, same day. Awesome!
Not for profit with hundreds of the bikes great for city riding. Good people.
After reading the reviews, I thought I’d give this place a try. I wanted help in purchasing a used bike; I haven’t had a bike since childhood and wanted to know more about my options and what the terms on the price tags meant. Walked around for about 15 minutes. No one helped or even acknowledged I was there. Several employees were there and didn’t even make eye contact with me. Some were helping other customers while others were walking around. Walked in and unfortunately walked out.
Great place with helpful employees.
Bought a green old school refurbished schwinn cruiser (with an air horn!) for a mere $140 and its been turning heads on the daily. Theyre a busy shop, so bring your patience, but the bikes are just as awesome as their business model.
Im a volunteer there every Wednesday fixing up bikes, tearing down clunkers for their parts and loading bikes in shipping containers for donation to countries where a bike may be the key to employment and a better life. The economic model is pretty straight forward: Collect bikes, fix the good ones up for sale, tear down the poor condition ones, store the others, and use the money from sales to fund the shipping. It costs about $5,000 per container that can carry several hundred bicycles. And, yes, they are a full line bicycle repair shop with accessories. Bring yours in for a tune up, safety check, new tires/tubes, etc.
Ive bought 2 bikes from them and Im so happy with them. For a place run by volunteers, the service is amazing and the prices are more than reasonable.
Great place for used bike parts, you can even buy a complete bike! Their prices are very reasonable.
Wow. Great used and tuned up bikes for sale at great prices!
Didnt have what I needed and I thought the bikes were over priced, but they do have a lot of parts semi organized. I think if you want to restore an older bike youll probably find what you need .
I have volunteered here before and it was a great experience, bought a bike there too and it has not given me any problems, such a great place for any repairs and everyone there shares a very positive energy, always tell family and friends to check this place out, it wont disappoint.!
Working bikes is great - best used bike selection in Chicago. Staff is friendly knowledgeable and helpful. Kiki is the jam!
Working Bikes is great for affordable good quality bikes! Everytime we come in Keke is very helpful helping us to leave satisfied!
I loved it everything is great the bikes, the workers, just amazing I love it. Thanks for that bike shop I have a working bike.
Friendly service. Recommend
Such a great place so glad I went and sooooon glad for my new bike !!! Thank you guys and keep up the great work !!!!!
Best place for cheap bikes, parts and repairs, and they work for a good cause.
A wonderful place to volunteer. Awesome staff. Definitely would do it again.
Good technicians who know what they are doing. Had a good selection of reasonable priced bike jerseys as well.
Got there as they were about to close. Still got great service with no pressure. And it is for a great cause.
This place is outstanding. If you are looking for a solid commuter bike or urban workhorse, you can find it here. If you are into vintage bikes, they also have beautiful classic road bikes restored to perfect working condition. I came here looking for parts for a bike Im building. I found two sets of excellent Shimano SPDs, bottle cages, SKS fenders, and a nice seat that I took out the door for only a small fraction of what these things would cost new (or even take-offs on ebay). The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. But BE PATIENT - they are volunteers, and the place can be very busy, especially in the warmer months.
Highly recommend this place for anyone looking to buy a bike or get their bike fixed
The cause outweighs one douche. Yes, like one of the other reviews I too was confronted with a similar person acting very rude. But I decided to go towards the back and found an older gentlemen fixing bicycles. He seemed to be orchestrating the whole group volunteering in the back. He asked if I needed help and I told him my troubles with my bicycle. He helped me that time and every single time since. Whether I needed a bracket for a vintage rack or a Positron shifter wire he always helped. Now for the second year in a row my gf and I donated at different times of the year to working bikes. This is a great place to get things at a lower price (used) and help a cause.
Very approachable and knowledgeable staff help you with a big selection of bikes, solid pricing as well
Everyone is so friendly and quite helpful. If you are looking for a casual bike, this is a great place for a great cause.
This isnt your typical bike shop I love this spot they started near my house here on Taylor and Western you get what you need nothing fancy necessary here you can come up on amazing bikes at really reasonable prices if you know bikes and go get here its almost like an gently used Ralph Lauren or Tommy hilfiger at tha thrift shop
The coolest bike spot in the city-love treasure hunting and such great prices I always give a little extra considering the good theyre doing for Chitown AND the World
Visiting from Cleveland. Great program!
Customer service is horrible here. Employees seem to be disinterested in helping customers and dont seem to be even knowledgeable about different types of bikes. Wont be back.
No males allowed on Thursdays! They ask for volunteers to help fix old bikes which they then sell. I know how to fix bikes so I showed up. The employees (all male) firmly turned me away, saying Thursdays are for females and trans people only. Never in my life have I been turned away from a volunteer position, much less one where I bring specialized skills. I suppose theyd rather keep the women, quasi-women and pseudomen to themselves. But hey, they sell used bike bottles for a dollar, so one extra star for that.
Friendly staff, eager to get volunteers on their feet.
