Very nice staff. Amazing wood options. And they cut wood for you. So even nicer. They have a whole bunch of cool things you can refurbish. Check them out for sure!
If youre creative and this is your place. Woods, hardwares, cabinets, doors, lights, granite and everything is use to be in the house or factory. Price point also reasonable as well. Free parking in the back and helping put heavy things into your car. Excellent and friendly services. I really like this place
Large selection of building materials from old buildings. Friendly and helpful staff. Doors, trim and hardware.
Great pieces perused and really enjoyed my visit. Awesome, knowledgeable, and friendly staff.
I really enjoyed working with Ennui on getting a shower and bathroom designed. The amount of products on site was generous. It was hard finding the toilets but once I found them, the prices were nice.
Rebuilding Exchange is a very wonderful and very antique warehouse where you can find antique doors, chandeliers, washers, dryers, microwaves, doorknobs, antique bathtub, cabinets and stoves with their antique ovens too.
I love their goals, especially to retrain people for work. Knowledgable staff. Amazing selection of unique reclaimed items waiting for your diy projects or even new construction. They also offer classes.
Best for building material home improvement
So much fun to dig through things that were pulled out of old buildings. We found doors from an old home that had so much character that we cant wait to hang them in the house. You never know what youre going to find and if you keep an open mind you will end up with something really cool.
Great nonprofit organization with friendly and knowledgable staff! I always find one of a kind pieces here, will be back!!
Found exactly what I was looking for at very reasonable prices. Love the store.❤️❤️❤️
Very adventurous place. Old reclaimed wood. You dont know what you will find strolling around. The woodwork classes are fun and teaches you to use reclaimed wood. I recommend this to all amateur carpenters
The way they advertise prices for wood is a complete scam...it’s blatantly unorganized so after two employees gave us two different prices for wood. We spent 20 minutes picking out what we wanted, they upped it 125% from the second price we were told. All they have to do is put the price for that lumber in that bay with the pricing charts. Our totals we were told went from $11, to $35, to $85 once we were ready to check out.Could have been honest mistakes but this seems way to sketchy for how simplistic the solution is.
Volunteering orientation. Id recommend Rebuilding Exchange. Excellent selection of vintage and almost new building supplies
I find more things then I need at this place..
This place has an awesome selection of available products and goods to furnish and update your home. Whether youre looking for a new dishwasher, stove, door, lumber, light fixture, etc. youll find it here. The prices are all amazing and the building is huge. Definitely check em out.
Love this spot!
A wonderful selection of reclaimed materials from homes, churches and commercial buildings. I bought a historic fixer upper and have bought bathroom fixtures, hardware, lighting, cast iron floor vents and reclaimed wood to match and improve my home all at very reasonable prices. Cant wait to go through their vast collection of doors for a couple of missing closet doors and will definitely be back for the kitchen remodel.
This place has all kinds of everything from lumber to loos, light fittings to louvre doors and lots in between. Prices are fair to excellent and the staff are really nice. Huge place, lots to look at; if you’re refurbishing a vintage place on a slim budget, check it out!
This place is a dream with parts saved from older buildings made so much better than todays junk! I found a metal cabinet I can clean up like new that I was unable to find anywhere else in the city. The people working there went out of their way to help me look for what i wanted. Cant say enough good about them! And of course Ill be back!
Great workshop to help individuals develop their skills in woodworking and various reusable materials.
Rebuilding Exchange is an asset to the community and city in so many multi-faceted ways. They stop stuff going to landfills, they give landlords and developers (read: those often not given a chance to help by being labeled “the enemy” by some) the chance to help out, they give disadvantaged people the ability to be productive members of society, they build community, they engage the public, they engage companies, they help people learn new skills from many angles, the list goes on. Also as a bonus, they have great design and branding sense and they throw great fundraising parties every now and then to help raise money as they are a not for profit. Hope they stick around for many years to come. Thanks Rebuilding Exchange!
This place is absolutely magical. Its gigantic, with all kinds of neat things for your house, reclaimed from other buildings - rows and rows of doors of all sizes, an piles of sink counters, tons of old windows and light fixtures and tiles and cabinets and all the bits and pieces. Plus the reclaimed wood, for cheap, great for woodworking projects. They also have great classes. I love going here.
This place is the best! One of a kind items that can be given new life again. Whomever does the picking sure has a unique eye for some of the coolest architectural pieces around. Prices are very reasonable and staff is usually always willing to help.Well worth our trips from Indiana to this unique business.
Now this place is a treasure. The prices and materials selection are great. Theyve got everything that you need for home decor/remodeling.
Love this place. Good prices. Unique stuff but also practical needed stuff.
Leonard was helpful and knowledgeable. It is worth checking out ✌️
Actually a good place to checkout for building supplies, especially if you are planning or actually doing remodeling! It is a great place to look through, if your plans include restoring as close as possible, for historical accuracy! The staff are friendly, and knowledgeable! Prices are very reasonable!
Good place nice people amazing prices
Lots of cool salvage stuff here. Always finding cool things.
Awesome selection, great prices and friendly staff. If you need something unique for a project, you should definitely stop here!
Love this place. My go to for reclaimed lumber in particular. Great people there that will always help you find what you need.
I was impressed by the variety of materials they have for older homes. Everything is neatly organized and they are willing to help you move things around to get to what you want. I was able to find two solid wood doors at a great price. There staff is also very knowledgable if you have a question about do it yourself projects. I plan on attending one of there workshops in the near future.
I love this place! You never know what you’re going to find here but rest assured, it’s going to be good! I like to upcycle things and this is the perfect place to look for vintage and antique items
Great place for reclaimed material. Its as pricey as you would expect and wont make you feel like youre building on a budget, but hey! Where else are you going to find reclaimed barn wood in the city limits? Exactly. Go today and get started on your rustic furniture builds and etsy projects. You know you want to!
Make sure you check out this place. Great home finds you will love.
Laid back, easy to browse. Providing a great resource without the high prices of other reclamation shops. Landlords, DIY, artists alike can find stuff here. Visit often and support these folks.
Havent been there so have no options. Directions dont mean I went there
For me, the best thing about this place is the old growth wood, but they will occasionally have other gems. The old doors and fixtures are great if thats what you need. They are also very helpful and nice.
The city needs more places like this! Fix up your home or rental building with nice used materials and fixtures without having to spend too much on cheap Home Despot junk. Great source for old timbers and boards for projects. They even have a bin of free small cutoff boards. Theyre always nice and helpful.PS: the person who left that lone 1-star review sounds psychotic.
This place is pretty cool. Expansive. You really need to know what youre looking for and there are great finds if youre willing to spend the time. Fair pricing generally.
Love the selection here and if you are handy it is heaven.
I wish there were more places like this. Reclaimed building materials at decent prices.
Amazing deals if you want real wood and great service!
Reclaimed wood and fixtures. Prices make some woodworking projects possible. Very helpful staff.
Built is your self nice environment, great used materials, nice people plus it non profit which is good deed
Great do good and feel good place. Please visit often.
The best cheapest stuff to rebuild/ rodel your place
Great people interesting stuff
So much drip
Love this place, the idea behind it and everything thing about it.
They have so much salvaged building materials there it was amazing
Great place for hard to find items
Good source for all kinds of inexpensive building materials for handy diy remodeller.
Treasure palace of salvage goods. They find great stuff.
Ive found some great pieces over the years – solid wood doors, nice french doors, window hardware, and most recently a great set of kitchen cabinets for my basement workroom. Watch for their monthly specials – you can save a boatload of $$!Bonus: The staff is friendly and very helpful!
Best place in the city to grab that reclaim lumber, building supplies and creative reuse. They also host seminars and woodshop classes. The new retail warehouse is a good look for sure.
Great selection of reclaimed construction materials. They also have classes including woodworking 101, Make It and Take It sessions and Spoon Carving (for real).
The ReBuilding Exchange is the best place to drop off our clients recyclable building materials or salvageable building products. Its also a a great place to stop in for a wood shop class and learn how to repurpose what you own.
Great place, but you pay the price. Its very pricey. You can find the same quality reclaimed materials at other places in the area for a lot less money. They also arent very grateful for their donations. I have a 3 year old gazebo that Im removing, thought Id give it to them instead of letting my contractor pocket the profits from it (I dont have anyway to sell it really). They wanted a donation to come pick it up. The $3000 gazebo was going to be their donation.
This store is a treasure trove. I also love the fact thats they also sell items they built using reclaimed items (the tables they make are beautiful)
I love exploring their warehouse and seeing all of the cool items they have!
Love this place every week its something diffrent.
Took a wood working course here. Great instruction and enjoyable class experience
Place is great for some old relics from homes around Chicago. If youre looking for doors, they have a slew of them!
I must say I really liked Rebuilders Exchange three four years ago when it was managed by a young lady named Megan.I returned to purchase things and their pricing has skyrocketed. Some of the pricing is insane for things that are broken. And I must say the attitude of the people sitting at the counter is sad. Millennials with attitudes 👎👎
This is a home owners candy store.
Lots of repurposing stuff
Great prices and always finding fun things for a project here!
I always find a little bit of history . To own
Great place to find and repurpose items for your old home.
They used stuff as if its new stuff, thats the prices
Lots of good budding materials.
Great stuff, very fairly priced and very nice and helpful staff!
Loved this place..I will be going back often..
Love this place! Great selection and super friendly staff!
I like this place but this is my problem w them. I had several nice windows and an exterior door that I wanted to bring them and so I asked them if could get a store credit or trade my door for one of theirs bc I need it to swing the opposite way. They said no, so youre telling me they want me to give them my stuff for free so they can turn around and sell it for a profit and they wont even give me a store credit for the other free stuff they have? My windows and door will going to habitat for humanity instead. If Im going to donate something its not for some guy to make a profit, its going to help people.
The world would be a better place if every city had a Rebuidling Exchange of their own. My own home and office is replete with material that they salvaged, sold to me at a lower price that I could have found for comparable material elsewhere, and then provided expert advice on how to incorporate said material into whatever project Ive used it for. More than likely, at each visit I was helped by someone in their training program who was learning a new skill that will likely be a benefit to them in their life down the road.To summarize, The Rebuilding Exchange:Provides materials one cant find anywhere else at lower prices than expected.Ensures that those materials are used instead of sent to the landfill.Has a staff that can help you think about how to approach your next DIY project.Helps the community by training people who need the training. Is my favorite place to shop in Chicago.
Great selection of really unique materials. Great prices on everything too.
Lots of sh*t to pick through for projects
The Rebuilding Exchange is one of my favorite places to go. Im an architect and active DIY-er and it always gets me inspired. Ive taken a couple classes there- the Make-It Take-It Mirror as well as Intro Woodshop and I built a nice bar for my apartment in their shop. The staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, and I consult them on my projects all the time. I love that they can tell you the stories behind the salvaged wood, doors, windows, and other interesting pieces. Its like a more accessible Salvage One- youll always find cool projects happening there.
Loved the first time I was in there I found so many things that I was needing
Tried to donate some building materials and I was given a heavy dose of attitude by every one that worked there. They cherry picked the items that could be used for some hipsters art project.
Great place to pick up things for the house, awesome staff!
This place is a great resource for DIYers, new homeowners and anyone looking to recycle old home materials. A lot of the building materials are very dated and require someone with a talent for upcycling but the reclaimed lumber is cheaper than the big box store and perfect for DIY furniture/accent pieces.
Best store when re-habing
Best place ever.
Excellent resource for salvaged and reclaimed building materials
Great service! Stan is the best!
