I had moved into this area recently and I’m completely obsessed with coffee. I had been eyeballing this place for some time. Today while doing laundry I desperately need a cup of coffee…so I decided to try this place out. Let me tell you I am not disappointed at all! The young lady at the counter was super sweet and helpful. I had a Latte with Mexican Vanilla flavoring …it was smooth and with just a hint of sweetness which I love. Topped off with an everything bagel with turkey, egg and cheese. I will definitely be hitting up this spot on the regular.
We dropped by for a take out order of:- Xocolatte: I got this iced with almond milk. Its pretty smooth and creamy. Its not really sweet. Although I dont like super sweet coffee, I think it might be better with a sweetener to bring out the chocolate flavors.- horchata: not sure if the barista gave us a vegan one on mistake or forgot to add the dairy but it tasted and looked like sweet cinnamon water. Not necessarily bad, but not what I expected for an Horchata.Service was quick (no one was there) and to the point.I will be returning to give this place another try! Any recommendations, please let me know!
Absolutely love this place. Especially because I don’t have to leave my neighborhood to get boring Starbucks. Everything about this coffee shop is perfect, except the unfriendly and awkward staff. They don’t even bother to greet you. Instead they act like we are bothering them with our orders.
This is a great place to get some work done and enjoy some good food and drinks.
They should have more options for younger customers. Most items have caffeine in it or must get a hot chocolate in the middle of summer. However, I myself I enjoy their beverages but I often run into baristas who do not seem to know how to make the items here.
My partner and I wanted to support a local coffee shop. We ordered an horchata and dulce de leche cold brew. Both were flavorful and good. Our server, young man was nice and helpful. Unfortunately giving 4 stars because when another employee walked in she wasn’t super welcoming. I understand that she wasn’t serving us. But could have greeted us or responded to our “thank you” at the end as we walked out.
Sweet place! The coffee here is delicious and all of the staff are charming and welcoming. There are some very unique drinks here that other places do not have and are worth trying out. I enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and the family atmosphere. Everything you see inside was in good quality and affordably priced. Highly recommended!
I have visited this coffee shop a handful of times. I make it a point to swing by for my dose of caffeine when I am in the area. I like the set up and the variety of their menu. One of the very few spots of its type in Chicago south side. I have tried one of their sandwiches, it was tasty and generous in size.I would love to see the shop expand and be able to hold more people during their evening events.
Excellent service and delicious menu items! The cafe de olla cold brew and the chai latte are INCREDIBLE!
Delicious fun drinks, great breakfast food, and friendly staff. Their patio also the perfect place to hang out.
Great coffee great service friendly atmosphere make you feel well very welcome
Best coffee ever....... keep up the good work.
Not impressed at all...cinnamon roll was dry and not tastes... The coffee was average...awkward seating ( only enough to accommodate 4 people tops)
Love supporting a small business and I wish the BEST for this place, but when I ordered a 12 oz horchata oat milk latte (for the same price as Starbucks) it was super dark and tasted almost like black coffee with no flavor. I saw another photo in here with the same order and it looked awesome and I wish mine was the same. I was hoping to give the woman who made it the benefit of the doubt but she just seemed rude and was working alone so I decided not to make her job any more difficult. I suggest maybe she have help next time or there’s just more consistency with the results since it isn’t cheap coffee and there is cheaper competition nearby.
Best coffeehouse in Illinois. They also support local businesses and give back to the community. We need this kind of businesses to help empower others.
Cute coffee shop, but not many selections.Still the bagels were great tasting and made a great snack. The outside area is a nice touch for those who want to feel the cool breeze too.I picked The horchata coffee brew, but it like cinnamon and lacked the horchata flavor I was looking for. The Dulce de Leche brew tasted sweet and was a nice touch. I might come back soon to try again. My kids enjoyed the outside patio
This place is alright, friendly staff and clean but the taste of the coffee is lacking consistency. Seven out of ten times itll be good and the other 3 its just bad and for 3 bucks a cup it should always be good. Im sorry, but there is just too many local coffee shops that ALWAYS make a good cup to go to instead.
Nice desserts as well! Definitely stop by and say hello to the friendly staff if youre in the city! Tasty pastries and coffee! A fun and convenient spot for the community. The croissants were fantastically tasty.
Girl with tattoos and glasses can use some work on how to provide customer service. Her service was alright but not great. She could be a little bit more friendly.
Co-worker wanted coffee and neither of us was familiar with the area. Did a Google search and this popped up as the #1 choice. We decided to give it a shot and was very impressed. Its a very cozy spot. The staff was incredibly friendly. The syrup used for flavored coffee is homemade, and my co-worker said hers was amazing. I contemplated trying a flavored blend, but decided to go with the regular blend. The guy ahead of me ordered what I was thinking about and came back to say it was delicious...will be going back to try that now. If youre in the area give it a shot.
I wanted to really love this place. I took my nephew to see his old hood, as we all pretty much grew up in St. Michaels. The service was so bad. Going in with support in our hearts and revisiting, the welcoming was cold. Honestly couldnt wait to leave. We said said hello, thank you, and have a good one with nothing in return. I am in customer service, self employed and I find this to be super important. Anyway I had a cortado and it was practically just milk. I hope that whatever dude was going through today, he gets a great ending to his day.
Best place for Cafe de Olla!
Extremely rude barista! From out of town and not friendly AT ALL.
Friendly staff and great lattes! They also offer many milk alternatives for those who are lactose intolerant.
The Angie K is awesome.
Why the the people here so rude? Only one nice barista at this place.
Love that this is a female Latina owned business! Tasty horchata cold brew was amazing. The patio looked really cute as well. Very friendly staff. Can’t wait to try more drinks!
I had the chocolate coffee latte. It was delicious.
If I lived in the area, I would probably go here every day. My favorite drink is the 47th Street Blend, and they also have a good cinnamon roll. Customer service is always present here, and aside from occasionally getting an off cup of coffee, Ive always had wonderful experiences here. I always try to go here when Im in the area, and I recommend getting coffee here in Back-of-the-Yards to others
This is a truly magnificent place, with extraordinary coffee, wonderful varieties of treats (including pastries, sandwiches, bagels [toname only a few]). Beyond the availability of such wonderful delicacies, the staff is undeniably rad, totally cool, simply magnificent people. Lastly, the environment and the atmosphere in this place is just perfect for getting some work done or reading a good book.Be sure to check this magnificent cafe out if youre int area!:)
I went to this place, and in the first place the boy says I dont speak Spanish being in a Latin neighborhood, really? I asked him for a glass of water for my dog, and he didnt give me. I can not believe it
Love the Cafe de olla!!! Cant go wrong.
This place is lovely! It’s one of my favorite places in my area, i’m not a big coffee person myself but their teas are so flavorful and delicious and they have such a nice atmosphere! I love it!!
Great Mexican chocolate with oat milk
This is a very awesome place to sit down and get work done. Oh, and the coffee is very delicious, too! Frankly, I have to highly recommend this place! But, dont take my word for it; visit for yourself and experience the awesomeness of the coffee, the atmosphere, and (most importantly) the staff—they are all incredibly awesome human beings. I assure you that you will find your experience at Back of the Yards Coffeehouse to be a splendid and enjoyable one. Cheers!
Stop in on weekends to get fix of flavored latte and the home made flavors here are delicious. Horchata and dulce de leche taste as good as you imagined.Staff has always been friendly and listen to any question you may have on the menu.
Tasty beverages and lovely outdoor seating
Had a tasty iced tea
I loved it here!
Warm and cozy little coffeehouse. Provides outside seating. Kind staff. Inviting.
Great coffee shop with a nice food offering. Staff is friendly with great suggestions to try. During warm weather, there is a patio to enjoy - great neighborhood, family owned establishment.
Nice cafe. Interesting menu highlighting some twists on the Latin American coffee culture and traditions. Flavoring beverages may be inconsistent, otherwise tasty!
Stopped by today, for a much needed Iced Mocha♥️cant wait to come back again soon..
The best coffee ever
This is a cozy little place with really great coffee and the food is great as well!
I just had a delicious Mexican hot chocolate and breakfast sandwich at the lovely Back of the Yards coffee house. I have food sensitivities so I was excited to see that they have non-dairy milk options (almond milk in my hot chocolate). They were very accommodating. The vibe is cool, and relaxing. I will definitely be back. So happy to have this in the neighborhood!
Super fun different drinks. Not super spacious but I still like the ambiance.
Its a really nice coffee place to visit. Their pastries can be a little better but the coffee is good. They also have parking! 😊
Nice space. Super hot, maybe ac was off . Good vegan horchata. Not many pastries left after 3p.m. Super polite guy answered all my questions. Outdoor seating is a plus!
Its located behind the tax office (Google says youre there instead of having you turn the corner). Small place/but still cute. Im only a few sips into an iced Americano and while its more bitter than I usually like its definitely strong!
Love the coffee and that vegan horchata really surprised me. Its definitely a must try!
Perfect coffee stop, great pastries and vegan options
I had a great breakfast sandwich on the Patio- Covid friendly
Nice cozy place to get coffee
This is a top-notch coffee shop. The coffee is high-quality, and there are a variety of sweets and other foods that are well-prepared. The workers are hard-working and skilled at their work. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable to chat or do work.
Staff welcomes you in with a warm greeting. Menu is filled with options including breakfast sandwiches ( bagel sandwiches as well), teas, ice and hot coffees. Some items arent listed with the typical names but thats because the coffee here isnt your typical item either. They add their special flair and it makes the difference. Ive already tried 3 different options and when Im in the area I make it my spot to stop at. Heres hoping they are here to stay.
We also stopped by for afternoon cakes which were gorgeous, the chocolate brownies and the banana and pineapple muffins were to die for!
Great selection of high-quality coffees and teas. The sandwiches are delicious. Its also refreshing to have a local business so invested in positive change in the community. For each bag of coffee beans purchased, the cafe donates $1 to a local charity.
Great for a get together. Nicely decorated. Walking distance from library. Good drinks, some pastrys. There is also a really nice outdoor section that has seating. Their is wifi available that runs well. I highly recommend their xocolatte, my favorite drink.
Good coffee, customer service could use a lot of work.
Local community watering hole. Friendly staff and the vibe is great. Not a ton of room and their selection isnt vast but everything is done well. Plus always nice to support local businesses.
What a great spot! Excellent and friendly service. Even better coffee with unique flavors that you def wont find at a national chain.
Great place, great coffee, indoor and outdoor seating. Only downside is no AC if you are trying to beat the heat on a hot, hot summer day.
Polite service and good hot drinks.
Love this place! Its so warm and theres a variety of drinks to choose from!
Havent! Cute little shop in the southern side of Chicago. Being somewhat unfamiliar with the area it felt like home here. The xocolatte is pretty good, tastes like classic mexican hot chocolate with nice espresso! Had an americano as well, nice and dark but packed crema. Nice little shop :)
High quality coffee. Enjoy it on beautiful back patio.
Nice Friendly cozy warm atmosphere and loved my Cold Brew coffee.
Great small business for the community. Mocha is good, really good dark chocolate flavor. Really small but nice decor and a lot of different food and coffee options. Support your local business!
Lady behind is rude, can clearly see a difference on how she treats some customers (white) compared to others. Will not be returning.
Its a cute little coffee shop and good coffee. But there isnt very much indoor seating and its difficult to find parking. This is most definitely a neighborhood coffeeshop and I will definitely go again!
Cute neighborhood cafe with a great patio.
Great coffee with match more greater flavour.really great service ...👍👍
Just finally tried coffeehouse, because it was widely advertised long before opening. I ordered cappuccino. I am giving 4 stars because cappuccino was only warm not hot. Next time I would like my cappuccino hot.
The location is perfect! Small and cozy, not much to sit, but hopefully they bring back the patio!! Back of the yards really needed a coffee house!!
I so thought I was going to be blown away but nope I was was not, unfortunately the 2 ladies there were quite unexperienced when a problem arises on an item. The sandwich they reccomended was decent but the coffee and chocolate bread was awfully tasteless. Id have to say for places like this Cafe El Meson is Still at the top of my list! 😁
Great hidden treasure. Great food, beverages and staff. The owners are approachable and inviting to conversation. I will definitely return.
Cute and cozy spot to do some work or have coffee with a friend. The cafe de olla was on point. Regular cup of coffee was good too. They have outdoor seating that looks promising for warmer weather. I will definitely be visiting again!
Love coming here for breakfast when Im in the area. Friendly baristas, great food and coffee. Hope too see more places like this in the area.
The coffee, the food, the staff, and the family atmosphere is great!
Really nice people, very flavorful coffee, and tasty food at good prices. Excellent atmosphere. Love it!
I came here unexpectedly, but was very happy that I did. Their Cafe de Olla was one of the best cups of coffee that Ive ever had. I had fast service and friendly staff the whole time I was there. Highly recommended.
