Periodically change their price. Food is more expensive than before with less choices. We only have two Asian Market in the Columbia, which is Oligopoly competition. That’s why they have some control for the price. They will have new goods coming on Thursday. So when you buy on this date, you can have some fresh vegetables. That’s the only good thing of this place. Also, Chinese worker work there and they all speak Chinese. When they know you are a Chinese, they seem like refused to talk with you using Chinese. When you speak Chinese, they will respond to you with English, which is ridiculous. They are not helpful when you ask them some things. They even don’t like working there.
Great place! i love the selection of teas and the fact that they also carry bowls and cups is great. the only downside is the parking lot being so small, but its a minor inconvenience. the staff is very helpful!
Fresh stuff is good. Not labeled so you need to know what youre looking for. Meat section in back of store is nice surprise.
Have been looking for a grocery solution to needing some Asian food items. The owner was super friendly and helped me find what I needed.
One of my favorite places to visit for all my asia foods. Great place helpful people.
VERY nice market for Asian food. My wife discovered this market today and was thrilled with their selection. She was able to find all of her Comfort Foods she grew up with in the Philippines. Their selection was fantastic, the store is incredibly clean, well stocked and the people working there were extremely friendly and helpful.
They didnt have my coffee in stock, but great fresh produce and found the sauces and sesame oil I was looking for. Always a good place to shop.
They were really helpful. Great selection.
Their vegetables are mostly good, but some items are always old expired and refuse to return. Bad !
Have seen reviews on here saying that the people working are rude and not helpful. That was not the case whatsoever for me, the workers helped me find everything I needed and were extremely nice. Will be returning.
Very nice selection, an there very helpful when I ask questions. Strongly recommend
I’d rated them zero star if I could. A male store clerk yelled at my wife for trying to size match rice basket with cooking pot. We shopped there all the time but this will be our last. The guy was nasty and rude. I’m sure he won’t be acting that way if I was with her at the time.
Since im not in Hawaii any more its like im home 808🤙🏾
Good for my weekly groceries. And getting my Thai tea.
Young lady working was extremely helpful in helping my 16 yo daughter find the ingredients for her rice balls, even pulling up a recipe online. Also offered recommendations on what to do with the rice we would have left over so we wouldnt waste a whole bag of rice after this recipe.
Nice store but parking is worse. Most of all not polite..i hope oe they learn how to great or if asking answer questions not only ignore or point the hand.there! Disappointed
Today 6/15/20 I was visited that store, but I wasnt going inside. Because one guy tall and older( think, he will be owner) treated to customer like kick-off. I thought, his was thinking the customers were come and robbery or theft his properties. I so sorry for that guy, he was older age but his education and knowledge was not improve. I was not angry for that, but I wrote this massage for him to know how to build business and customer services. I hope this massages will be support to your knowledge and personal relationship to others.
I was greeted with a smile and had my questions addressed professionally and efficiently. Very helpful staff and good quality produce, sauces, garnishes and instant foods/snacks. Decent variety between Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai goods. I didnt notice many Korean or Japanese things.
This may not be the biggest Asian market in the Columbia area but it has all the essentials. My daughter loves coming here to grab her favorite drinks and everytime we come we try to grab something new. I love making Chinese and Thai dishes and have found 99 percent of my ingredients here. They have a decent selection of refrigerated goods, plenty of noodles and rice. All the sauces, oils, and spices I need, and plenty of interesting snacks. I wish yhey had a little more produce, but theres a Krogers not far to fill in there. Its a really nice, small business and worth a visit.
Lots of cool an interesting stuff to discover. Really has the Asian market experience.
Everything is so expensive. He’s increasing price everyday considering there’s no competition near by.
This store is packed with every imaginable Asian specialty. Great fresh produce section, some fresh meat and eggs. Huge frozen food varieties. Also a small selection of housemade buns, mochi, etc. Kind staff.
Im originally from Hawaii and Ive been missing mochi ice cream and manapua (steamed, meat filled buns). They have a lot of seasonings that I cant find in regular grocery stores. I stumbled into this place just to browse and it was like stepping back into my childhood. I even stocked up on chopsticks for $2. If youre not familiar with Asian food or cooking, youre probably going to be lost. The people who were working there when I went werent fluent in English, but theyre very friendly.
I did the grocery shopping at the store today. The shopping experience was awful. The shopkeeper was pushing me out of the store after I made the payment. I was putting my credit card back to my wallet and checking the receipt. I did not why and what happened to him. It was a terrible experience. It is not the right way to do business like this. When you are running a business, you at least should be polite and show necessary respect to your customers.Later, I chatted my experience with my friends, from who I learned more terrible stories. The shopkeepers show their patience and kindness to white people, but not others. This is ugly!
Very nice people & helpful when you cant find items!
Love their selection but be aware that they have a $20 minimum to use debit/credit for payment.
Great people, great selection, great products. Go and go often.
Nice,, CLEAN and authentic you can find d some real gems of good food without commercial fluff or non quality food pretending to be from the Orient . They stick with quality
Nice store lots of food in-stock.
My go to Sesame Oil well.
Nice Oriental Market with a variety of foods from Asia. The staff is really friendly and very helpful. Definitely worth a try if youre looking for any oriental food or supplies.
My trip went really well. They have pretty good prices on sweets and other snacks. I got a 10 pack of cakes for a dollar and some change. They are actually pretty good. They are also a little bit more healthy. Many of their items dont have sugar but actually taste good. You can find a wide range of foods and ingredients too. It was over all a great experience.
Amazing place friendly and helpful employees
If I could put a 0 star I would. I’ve been here for years for the ONLY one reason is bc it’s the nearest place from where I live, THEY DO NOT PUT THE PRICE ON THE PRODUCTS, and MANY of the products are EXPIRED. With HORRIBLE COSTUMER SERVICE from one of the chubby dude, the same dude THAT TOUCH MY DAUGHTER WITHOUT HER PERMISSION WHEN SHE WAS ASKING FOR HELP, he choose to ignore her with a very NASTY attitude!
If you want authentic chinese products and gifts, check out 88!
I went there today to shop groceries. The big tall guy with a glass must be an owner YELLED at me again today in front of others. SERIOUSLY RUIN MY MOOD FOR TODAY. I am truly disappointed with this kind of act and tired of being a loyal customer of theirs. My parents wouldn’t yelled at me in this most disrespectful way at me the way the owner did today. Can’t ignored this anymore since it’s been happening several times! SO IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO GET YELLED AT AND DISRESPECTED LIKE ME TODAY, DO NOT SHOP THERE. MY MOM WOULDN’T EVEN YELLED AT ME IN THIS SUCH DISRESPECTFUL WAY INFRONT OF OTHERS. I am so done and done being a loyal customer.
Well stocked and many items to choose from.
Nice place but not enough parking
My family and I have been a patron of 88 Oriental for several years. We like buying tofu there among other Chinese ingredients. But after today, we are never shopping there again. Long story short, we were extra for an item we didnt buy.No problem - I thought, well just let the owner know. But when I mentioned this to him - pointing out the mistake on the receipt, he curtly stated - There is nothing I can do for you. If there was a mistake, you should have told me before you left the store. I reminded him that we had called him after we got home to let him know of the error. He simply refused to listen People tells me this all the time. I cant stay in business if I deal with every complaint.Having being a long-time patron of over 5 years, it was infuriating being treated like someone who is trying to take advantage of the store. They just lost a loyal customer and all of our future business - all over a $1.30 tofu.
Very nice helpful people, always have what I need and more.
They have everything I need for all my Asian cuisine at affordable prices. It is small but the food is fresh. Sometimes the selection changes and they seem to be trying to always upgrade. Which is good.
This store had a good variety of things. They have a fresh meat selection of beef, pork, ect. There was fresh seafood, fish, shrimp, aloft of fish, but I dont eat fish so I cant go into detail. They had a large selection of vegetables. The store also had a large selection of frozen items and a large selection of grocery items.
They have cheesecake bread always or sometimes always in stock that stuff sells quickly to they also have dumpling wrappers a variety of tea a really beautiful vase about $40 but I mean youre getting your moneys worth along with some really cool looking tea cups and other things a huge section of drinks and makes the Oriental shop by the Dutch Square Mall look like a joke
The owner is so rude, never come back.
Great customer service experience!!
Theyre awesome people, and will even go out of their way for their customers if theres something that they dont carry.
Excellent selection, friendly anf helpful staff, and great prices. Good fresh produce and tons of snacks and cooking supplies
Great store
Good selection of Philippine instant seasoning and calamansi juice. Lots of nice frozen items as well.
Terrible serviceWas told i could Not use a credit card or debit card for less than a 20$ purchase. After making same purchase dozens of times. Clearly trying to bump my purchase amount. As previous visits was told limit was 5&10$ very inconsistent and dishonest feeling. I will Find another market and would encourage any others to do likewise.
Good service, always look forward to shopping here every time Im in the area. Always new items to discover. Good price, just be careful parking as the parking lot is very small
It was so rude of the owner to yell at the customers and drive them out of the store immediately after they paid. Very rude! In general, the owner is very mean and arrogant to Asian customers, while treating Americans very well. What a shame!
If I could give zero star I will give zero. The worst Asian market in South Carolina. The owner is very rude and he Condescending. Need to work on how he treat and the way he talk to coustmers.
Bad customer service. The owner is really rude. Refused to communicate with you when customers have questions. Store is really small and only has limited selections. Dont waste your time and money. I would rather choose to drive 90 minutes to Charlotte for fresh meats, seafood and vegetables.
The place is small with limited selection of food and produce. They are really lacking in foods from Hong Kong. Most foods are from China. Some foods do not have price labels on them. The prices of foods that I recognize seem to be priced okay, not excessively expensive. They have limited selection of fresh meat and they dont look too bad. However, I am skeptical to purchase them. The owner speaks Cantonese but not Mandarin though he seemed to understand it. The people are okay but I wouldnt say they show much interest in the shoppers. The parking lot is small. It would be a problem with big crowd.
My favorite Oriental supermarket! Friendly staff!
They need to learn more about customer service. They might think they are just running a tiny grocery store like what people did 15 years ago in China, but the truth is cusomer service is becoming more and more important no matter where you do your business.
This place is great! Just wish they were more credit card friendly. You will be asked to pay in cash or debit card if your order is under 25$.
Wonder place.
Hurry get your curry. Picked up lime leaves and other hard to find items so I can start a fire in my mouth. That green curry was Hot. Small Asian grocery store with items from China, Thailand etc. Also carries lots of frozen items(dumplings, fish) and fresh vegetables.
I wont be going back. Older lady passed gas in my direction that did not seem like an accident. Staff did not speak to me at all, only told me how much my items total. Besides bad customer service, very small selection of fresh vegetables & fish.
Calm environment, always has what Im looking for. A great place to find ingredients for Asian foods
Its usually a little cramped and cluttered in there but it adds to the charm. Only 4 stars because they often run out of the things we tend to go there regularly for.Edit: I added 1 star because despite the occasional supply issues, they always do their best to help. Ill be going here for years to come.
It is good. The best Asian market here
Great small Asian grocer in the area. They have a good selection of Chinese and SE asian ingredients. Produce is usually very fresh and they have a good selection...green papaya, herbs, mushrooms, bitter melon, galangal, lemongrass, etc. Ill come here for some hard to find Asian ingredients.
Very small Asian grocery store but has almost anything you need. The associates working there are all very helpful and will even help you order anything that are not in stock. We shop there every weekend. The parking lot is very small so you may be prepared to park in the strip mall across the street.
Fresh veggies. Small but got all you basically need
Excellent bean sprouts, big bag- good price. I am a regular, yankee in the south at that. Store takes me back to Queens + Brooklyn NYC. Very nice ppl. Great variety of food. Long term establishment
The only Chinese grocery shop in columbia. Price is reasonable, product is fresh. Not too many choice due to the size of the store.Anything under $20 will be charged $1 credit card fee(no, I didnt mistype the fee amount), so bring your cash.
They are stocking mote and more fresh vegetables lately. even better
Very extensive inventory. Reasonably priced.
The owner is really rude. Terrible customer services! They only want you to keep the store clean, do some organizing work and pay for the extra money to them.
Love their selection of goods. Everything you need in one place.
Great place to find ingredients you just wont find in the major grocery stores. A lot of Oriental flavors there
Poor customer service
Great friendly place.
Its the Asian market! Seriously dont be scared... yes there are weird things in here and yes almost everything is in some form of Asian language... but be courageous and go get exotic things from a place where those things are not exotic and save a bunch of $$$. ;)
Decent Selection. Nice that you can buy fresh ground pork and other meats in the back area. They had small selections of different things. Not a supermarket. You may still need to go to another asian market to get everything you need/want but overall worth stopping at. The place seemed clean enough. Only thing is many things arent priced and as usual (at asian markets ive been to at least) there werent any labels on produce just a price on most but not all.
They are ok but they care about not paying credit card fees more than they do providing good service to their customers.
For some reason I hadnt visited 88 until recently. I found the location to be easy to navigate and the staff to be helpful and friendly. Parking is limited but its not like there are a million people shopping there at once.
I always buy from there since they first openedIf not for the convenience of being near my place, I would go elsewhere. They have a great variety of things to buy, but some staff are so rude.
Great selection and prices. Hard-to-find ingredients. Friendly owners/operators.
Very bad experience shopping here today during this pandemic period time. I thought shopping there will help out local business. But This asian owner super rude. Will not recommend go back shopping here.
Very nice local store with many of the basics to meet the needs of an authentic Oriental meal made at home.
Lots to choose from great prices awesome staff
I love this Market, I can get stuff here that I cant get anywhere else
Good variety of asian food
Nice place, but they charge extra for using a credit card/debit card. This is 2018, they need to get with the times.
They have a great selection and the best place to buy duck.
Good Asian store. They usually have all the basic things I need and have a helpful staff.
Great service. Good selection.
Conveniently located and good resource for Asian cooking needs.
Very small Chinese convenient store. Have lots of fresh vergi and meet for sale.
Super rude shouting to customers every single time when I went there ..the tall big guy with the glasses please dont go there if you do not want to get Yield at like me ...so cheap and no standard
I think this place is a little pricey, but it has a great selection and is my wifes favorite place for groceries.
I love this place. Im not Asian, but I like Asian cooking and everytime I go there its an adventure and I find something new. The staff is friendly and helpful. And strangely enough, they stock my favorite coffee from New Orleans. Cafe Du Monde. It looks totally out of place, but its there and I buy it there and dont have to mail order it anymore. they also stock a huge selection of ingredients for any type of Asian cooking and candies for the kids.I love those rice paper wrapped orange chews and so do my kids. Also, if youre not into Asian cooking but like Asian flavors, they still have something for you. Lots of flavored instant noodles and grab some frozen dumplings and some hot dumpling sauce and you got a great party appetizer or dinner for the kids.
Good place for fresh seafood. actually the only good place around. all the other employees there are great but today when i went to grab a bag of peanuts one of the bags was open by someone and they spill outbof the bag onto the floor the only lady worker there came right over and told.us to move out of the way and was just flat out rude. she also was sweeping the peanuts and i think she put them back in the bag as well. if that was all i wouldnt mind but when i was done nd leaving the store i over heard her telling the other workers those were the two ppl in cantonese and she was also following us around the already tiny store like we were stealing. all in all a good store except for the lady worker there.
Not friendly and very rude.
