I grew up going to record shops like this. I like digging in racks and crates for the good stuff. I like buying local first. They can usually find about 75% of what Im looking for.Their trade prices are fair, their purchase prices are reasonable. Special orders usually arrive next day, and they are reasonably priced as well. The staff is knowledgeable and fun to talk to. Parking can be dicey during the weekdays, but you can usually find a spot. Never had a problem on the weekend.

This was a great record store. Very small but a lot of good records. Used originals and new represses. Was my first time there and I will be back.

A great record store. They had a. great CD selection which is mostly what I buy. Didnt really get a chance to look through the vinyl. I liked the old school vibe and music that was playing while I was there, which ranged from electronic music to The Commodores. The staff was extremely nice, personable, and interested in talking music. One of the best record stores Ive been to all around.

Very fast and friendly service. I went in to purchase tickets to the Congaree Swampfest and was in and out in under 3 minutes.

This is a crib of filth and old merchandise which one must be desperate or ignorant of other avenues to find such music of vintage eras. I cannot remember when I was so pleased to exit a COVID-19 laden venue.

Genuinely one of my favorite places in Cola. The staff has always been willing to talk music and to give me solid recommendations. Theyve remembered me by name and face consistently since I started going there a year and a half ago. If they dont have an album you want, they can often order it for you, and Ive had no problems doing so any of the times that Ive ordered. Id recommend Papa Jazz to anyone into records in the area. Its too good of an atmosphere and theyre too good people not to be aware of.

Reminds me of small shops I found through Philadelphia, very kind staff, they’ll help you out with anything you need and I’ve had friends tell me they’ll even order something for you if they can. Very big selection despite it being a very small shop. I love everything about this place

Good selection. But too crowded and has low ceilings. I looked only in New used area. I was uncomfortable because of covid anxiety. Will revisit when fully vaccinated.

Pretty neat shop and had lots of records. Personally I didn’t find many electronic vinyls which was pretty disappointing. However my roommate found some songs he liked which means they got some good stuff. I’d happy to be proven wrong or see them increase their electronic stocks. Some of the artist I went looking for and couldn’t find where Clams Casino, Flume, Lorn, and Petit biscuit.

The best place to get vinyl in the Cola area. They have a wide selection to choose from. I have been going to Papa Jazz for over 20 years for my music and they havent changed a bit. They also carry CDs if youre not into vinyl. They sell everything from pop, metal, hip-hop, and, most importantly, local artists. The people that work there are great and are always willing to help. Do like me and go to Papa Jazz and get lost looking for albums you didnt even know you needed.

Papa Jazz is an awesome shop for music and movies! They even have vinyl records too! You can also shop for CDs and DVDs as well! If you are looking for a particular item and its not available in-store they will order it for you right then and there which is very convenient! I love coming here and searching through the collection of vinyls. I always find such awesome stuff. Ive thoroughly enjoyed finding old records that I used to listen to with my grandparents as a child. I highly recommend this place. Theyll even order stuff for you if they dont have it in store. They ordered an album for me and had it there 2 days later!

My daughter absolutely loves this place. They have so much to look through, but you can find some good stuff if you have the time!

Great little shop! They care about their safety and customer safety. Offered a mask if I didnt have one and hand sanitizer our hands when we came in at out appointment time. Employees were super helpful and wore masks too. I will definitely come back.and support this business.

So I had a specific Christmas gift in mind for someone, and Amazon messed up my order. I turn to all the big stores, hoping theyd have it? No dice. I turn to this place? Gets my order in the very next day, Christmas saved. Good-looking selection of cds when I looked around - once the holidays are done and Ive gotten through whatever cds I get from family, I intend to come back again sometime.

Wonderful staff, great selection of new and old. These people really know their stuff, and the pricing is fair. I was just calling out albums off my want list, and knew what they had memorized. I was amazed. I highly recommend this shop.

This is hard to gauge for me because Im not the average music buyer. They didnt have very much that I really wanted. New releases that they had, I can get anywhere. The one highlight was RSD leftovers. They surprisingly had a bunch. I already got the titles I wanted most online though, but if youre looking go hit them up before resorting to flippers. They do buy used records which is cool. Most prices were competitive but the Wilco box was 10 bucks over average price (Amazon is 89 as is others with discounts). I did not look at the Jazz section as I only like a few things and I have what I want mostly. Bottom line is if you like newer artists and buy CDs or vinyl, youll like it for sure. Rock n Roll collectors, I would temper my expectations. The rating is for overall including for the average consumer. Hand sanitizer!!

The selection at Papa Jazz is absolutely unbeatable compared to most other stores in the area selling records. There’s boxes and crates of records everywhere you look, and they have so many different eras and genres of music it’s impossible to leave empty-handed. The store setup can get a little tight when there’s high traffic but it’s a small store so you gotta work with what you got. The staff is always extremely friendly and enthusiastic about all the music! I’ll come browse records here just to get away from my problems lol.

I was looking for a very specific album/cover art for my husband’s birthday. Not only did Alex not laugh at my absurd specificity, he checked in with me the next day to let me know that they found a new copy and then the day after that to let me know that a vintage copy just walked through the door. I’m super impressed with the level of service I received as a first time customer and am happy to continue to support a gem of a small business.

Very quaint little shop, Id highly recommend it. Good selection from vintage to new releases. There were things released as new as a few weeks ago in the new arrivals section. Very friendly staff. Pricing is about average for records, but the vintage records are cheap and I saw plenty of new ones under $20.

Carefully curated cool little cave with warrens of new and old music in disc and vinyl form. Everything is well labeled and the staff are helpful and knowledgeable. Every now and again I used to drive all the way from Clemson with my dad, a jazz playing bassist, just to check out the new stuff on offer. Now I come for me.

This place is awesome and the people that run it are awesome as well. I needed to find a hard to find CD and the great folks there were not only able to find it for me but got it for me in one day for a great price. I went to Columbia to the location and it was a gold mine of vinyl and CDs and tapes a real music store from yesteryear. The fine people at this record store will find you anything you need well worth the trip.

Papa Jazz is a refuge of cool in Five Points. Incredible selection of used and new LPs, CDs, and DVDs. Genres most often found in their bins are Jazz and Rock, but you can find some decent Hip Hop, Punk, Funk, Folk, Indie, etc. Prices are a hair on the high side compared to my experience with past record shopes, but I dont mind paying a slight premium to keep a great business in the green. Used media is all graded prior to selling which is a great help to the buyer. Music on the stereo while shopping is always in excellent taste. Open hours are long and accomidate any schedule. Keep up the good work Papa Jazz!

The best for music, loads of vinyl and cd, current releases and loads of tunes from multiple previous decades. Awesome prices with lots of used stuff at killer discounts. Deep jazz holdings but also loads of rock, maybe even some country. Great place to browse and people watch while the knowledgeable staff play music that rouses your curiosity.

They treat you like family and get to know your tastes in music, film and always come through with special orders or requests.One of the finest stores in Columbia with a knowledgeable, friendly staff.I wouldnt shop for media anywhere else.

Of all record shops Ive been to, Papa Jazz is by far the best. They have just about anything you could possibly want on Vinyl, CD, or DVD. The service is fantastic and the people that work there are very nice. The prices are the best Ive seen in any record shop Ive been to. I have never left Papa Jazz feeling disappointed. Staff wasnt the friendliest and the store was pretty cramped. Their customer base is incredibly RUDE, Ive never felt so much disdain or discomfort on a shopping trip. The record selection was pretty decent, but the pricing is rather ridiculous. Most of the records were basically on the floor in crates making for a rather unpleasant search. Not a bad store, but dont expect too much out of the place.

Ive been shopping here for 32 years. The staff has always been friendly, knowledgeable, and outgoing to make sure you found what you came for. If they dont have it, they can generally order it and have it in stock within a couple of days. They are one of the very few shops that accurately grade their used vinyl, and are very fair in their trade buying and selling.

Pappa Jazz a place thats been around a long time. I use to live in the neighborhood years ago and go in all the time to buy use or new cds weekly or biweekly. I went today after about 15 years seems as though nothing has changed. Still hands down the best place to buy new or used cds etc...

Great local record shop that has been in business for a long, long time. You can get brand new records or used ones, including some finds in the $5 or less boxes if you are really hunting hard. Ive had a couple of bad experiences with the owner, but the staff has always been A+++. They always have a great music selection, are quick to find out if they can get ahold of something rare or out of stock, know a bit about record labels and the music industry in general and are always helpful. The prices are the best that you can find in town - definitely worth a stop if you are a vinyl lover.

High priced, no air conditioning I was sweating my entire visit. Most vinyls are in long crates on the floor with barely enough room to see whats in them, I left with a backache. Very cramped as well, staff seemed rude and not happy to serve me, didnt feel very welcome there. All in all, they have a decent selection but I wont be going back.
