Living in NJ during these unexpected times calls for unexpected measures.We’ve been searching for a specific anti bacterial spray, but were unable to find it anywhere.Lo and behold, it’s available in NC of all places!I called and was told the young lady that handles orders would call me right back.She sure did! I placed an order and received great customer service. I don’t know if it’s a southern thing or a Public Hardware thing, but I wish more businesses were run this way.They definitely raised the bar and I look forward to ordering more from them soon.Thanks again, Lauren!

I just moved to the neighborhood and was so excited to have such a great-looking local hardware store nearby. Stopped by yesterday to buy a bunch of stuff and saw signs on their door saying “Durham mayor says you need to wear a mask. Your choice.” Then I opened the door and saw all 3 people - two employees and a customer - not wearing masks. I walked right out and won’t be back. Really too bad.... this kind of stubborn carelessness is what is allowing this pandemic to continue roaring on.

I have worked with Public Hardware for over 2 years now, and have always recieved the best service from everyone. It definitely is a family business, and you are always welcomed. They definitely go out of their way to make sure I get what I need. Thanks for the great service.

Was excited to check them out, but then I saw that none of the employees wear masks. So disappointing. Thought Durham was doing a better job to keep the public safe.

Friendly people in a relaxed environment. It was a little busier than usual today so some people had to wait a while, but for FFL transfers, theyve taken care of me right after stepping in the door. The owner, or the gentleman who seems to be the owner, is courteous and easy to converse with. If youre in a rush, it may not be the quickest, but for picking up FFL transfers, theyve been great to work with. My go to for all my transfers for the foreseeable future.

Buster and his son calls me little Kelly. My wife and I thinks the world of Buster. He is fair honest and funny. I hate seeing bad reviews because they go the extra mile to hep everone. Please show Public respect because they work hard to please everyone.

This hardware store is actively encouraging customers and staff to not wear masks- none of the employees had any facial coverings on at all. Skip it for your and everyones health!

If you turn a wrench or strike a nail on occasion, you owe it to yourself to visit Public Hardware. This is the kind of place that will never go out of style - even in the time of the big-box home improvement stores – because they have *exactly* what you need, in the quantities you need it.I recently finished a 9,000-lb winch installation on my Jeep, and I needed an extra 4 Grade 8 washers to safely mount it; my options were Amazon Prime, where I’d pay a lot more for a package of 100 washers when I needed four, or making a trip to Lowe’s or Home Depot where I’d have a 25% chance of finding the right parts and probably have to settle for a lesser quality if I did. PH had exactly what I needed, and as I strolled the aisles I managed to find a few other items that I could use as well.They’re the real deal.

This is a good place to find those small parts that you wont find in any regular hardware stores. This is your good old fashioned hardware store. They sell just about anything that youre looking for. Great place! I will shop there again in the future!

Always seem to have what I need from replacement wheelbarrow tires to hard to find hardware fittings. Now are stocking some nice looking yard furniture. I like supporting local businesses.

This hardware store has those old fashioned hard to find anymore items. From lamp oil to fireplace tools and just about anything else you can think of but cant find, theyve got it. The friendly employees are helpful at solving problems too. Plenty of free parking right outside the door.

These guys are the best. Been coming here for years...they always seem to have what I need, especially when the big box stores dont. Family run business for generations.

Not one mask being worn in the store by any employees. Store is kind of a mess too. Really its a shame because its close by and I was dying for a Home Depot replacement. Really wanted to like the local business. Not. One. Mask.

My wife and I use Public Hardware as our FFL location and have had good service until lately. After making an order online from Palmetto State Gun co. We were asked to have Public Hardware send a updated copy of there FFL info to Palmetto State. I called and was told that it had been done for 3 weeks and was told that it had been sent after each call, and also was told that public Hardware has had problems with long wait times on shipping from Palmetto State. With my payment already being taken out of our account I was very frustrated and recalled Palmetto State and told again that they hadnt heard from Public Hardware. I asked Palmetto State if I could include them on a 3 way call to public Hardware and she agreed to the call. During the call I heard the woman at Public Hardeware admit to not sending their info and sent it while I was on the call. Less than 10 mins afterward my order was shipped. I later got an update that my order was delivered to Public Hardware on Thursday so I was waiting on a phone call from Public to let us know to pick up our shipment. I never received a call from them so called on the following Tuesday but told that they were busy and couldnt check. I called back on Wednesday and finally told that it was at Public Hardware. Its not normal for me to give bad reviews but being lied to and just getting bad service to boot is not what I expect after using them multiple times. I hope that this helps others as well as the employees of Public Hardware to do better. As for my family we will be finding another company to assist with our orders.

This place is like stepping back in time. A great local, independent hardware store, you need to ask the helpful staff to find most items. Otherwise, you could be browsing the aisles for hours. The staff, however, knows where even the most obscure item is shelved. Theyre also happy to explain things to you to help in your project. Ive gone in thinking that there is no way this small store would have the item I was looking for, yet they always have.

Very old school towards minorities. The manager of the place ask me why dont I shop here more often instead of going to Lowes, I did not respond. Then, I had him made two keys for me and one of keys had to be make over again and he tossed the key at me. I held my composure and did not do anything but, I shall not be shopping there anymore with this type of service.

They refuse to wear masks. No reason to support a business that doesnt support the health and safety of the community they serve.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Public hardware offers a huge variety of hard to find and specialty items as well as most supplies needed for construction and home repair. I would reccomend them to anyone needing to get the job done.

I go to public Hardware maybe 3 or 4 times a week and I think its the most amazing thing Ive ever seen they have anything and everything and even the jelly donuts are the best Ive ever had there is so good I wish I could have them tomorrow

A seemingly disorganized store with a sometimes random selection of stock and prices. Within walking distance of many in the downtown area so worth going. Generally knowledgeable and very accessible staff.
