New location same great staff. The two strawberry milk shakes wife & I had were fabulous. They give you a straw & spoon for a reason. Its thick with strawberries. Great place to park under the building. Very unique.

We always make this a last stop before we head home. They have rebuilt this and its beautiful! Parking lot under the building is easy to get in and out of. I will keep coming here for the friendly faces and the great prices!

They have two jars for tipping: one for TOURISTS with a penny in it and one for LOCALS with lots of dollars in it. The one for tourists has a note on it: where are you from?. I find this disrespectful. I am a tourist, like 90% of their customers and I am proud of where I am from. I left no tip, and that is not because I do not usually tip, it was because I felt offended by the subtle message they are conveying with the two jars. Ice cream was mediocre. Next day went to a different place to get ice cream in Grand Haven and we were greeted to a friendlier service, but they too are tip beggars and the ice cream was exactly the same...

The place was crowded for the moment forward, but it was extremely worth the ice cream and banana boat! Sad thing is they ran out of their main ice cream cone type which was for some reason still on display.

My small soft serve was huge and the kids scoops were generous too.

They have Dole Whip right now. Amazing.

I lived down the street from the Hortons when they opened the Dairy Treat in 1969. I was a friend of their son, Todd, and the Dairy Treat was most definitely a family affair. Mr. Horton and his son, Mike, painted the polka dots themselves. Kim was a server and did much of the accounting. I can remember her showing me how she reconciled the receipts with the cash box using a mechanical adding machine with a big lever (while sitting on the family room floor). I was very impressed by how serious she was about it. Meanwhile, Todd spent quite a lot of time perfecting his skateboarding on Lafayette Avenue. His parents made him string his skateboard to his ankle so that it wouldnt roll across Harbor Drive if he lost it.I am sure there have been some difficult times. I remember Mrs. Horton talking about a nearby street riot - if you can believe something like that happened in Grand Haven. However, I think it has been a pretty good run for the Dairy Treat - built on honesty, hard work and good judgement. The number of teenage employees who have been touched by the Horton/Goldman family and these values is beyond counting and undoubtedly contributed to the culture of the Grand Haven community. I am sure the Dairy Treat in its early form will be greatly missed, and it makes me wonder if we may be losing something of ourselves amidst all of our growth and progress.

What a nice stop after a hot day at the beach. The flurries and sundaes are really good and they dont gouge you on price like a couple other places in the area. The workers are incredibly friendly, so dont forget to tip! A must stop for your beach day.

Wasnt a fan. Both of our ice creams were melted when we got them. I got a $5 frozen yogurt that was so melted it made a mess all over and my boyfriends soft serve flavor blast was basically syrup. Maybe it was a bad day since the other reviews are good. I just had a bad feeling at the window and it wasnt a great ice cream experience.

I ordered a Jack and Jill. It usually comes with hot fudge and marshmallow. There was only hot fudge. It was good.

Portions here are very generous for the price of the ice cream. Nice selection of styles and flavors as well. We visit this place a few times each summer and have never had a bad experience.

I had a hot fudge sundae and my friend had a butter pecan sundae. They both were very good.

Your typical dairy treat style ice cream place with cones, cups, splits, and so on. If you absolutely need ice cream while near the pier, you will be ok stopping here.They get one star knocked off for the dirtiness of the outside of their place and one knocked off for not accepting credit cards.

The shake tastes like the ice cream is made with whip cream. The peanut butter cup flurries was more chocolate pieces than peanut butter-mayhe even last Halloween peanut butter cups left over. It was nice that the place was open later, but left us feeling unsatisfied.

The ice cream and service is just fine. However, their shed building is crumbling, paint chipping, and not fitting for a downtown, riverfront space. Is it too much to ask to put a little money into the place? Also, in 2018, credit cards are a mainstream. I get it, you don’t want to pay the merchant service fee, but price your product appropriately.

Six of us came here today. Adults and kids alike all enjoyed the various types of ice cream we purchased. Typical ice cream stand desserts and snacks. Cash only.
