Tracy and her staff go above and beyond to provide exceptional customer service. They have stayed open late when we had a Friday night piccolo crisis before a band contest and loaned us instruments when needed. Situations like this are almost inevitable for musicians and you’re just not going to get this kind of service purchasing online.Musical Innovations has a full inventory of quality instruments but most notably has the largest inventory of step up and professional level flutes in the area. If you’re looking for a new flute at a great price, this is definitely the place to go.If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would.

I have spent a lot of time in this store and observed a lot of wonderful things: the whole staff will literally bend over backwards to make a customer satisfied. They go to great lengths to make people feel comfortable. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Tracy does her best to have a specialist for each instrument category on hand and ready to talk to anyone who needs help in a specific field. The repair staff is fantastic, they have a great turnaround time, and the work is both great and well priced. I would certainly recommend this store as the number 1 music store in Greenville.

I was very upset with my resent trip to the Columbia, SC location. When first entering the store no one had on mask or even attempt to put one on once we entered. They seemed less than interested to assist with a instrument rental, but I continued the process. I was provided the details of the cost of the rental, and decided to move forward with the rental even with the poor customer service. After completion of the rental agreement to my COMPLETE SURPRISE I was advised I was not eligible due to credit decline…I WAS NEVER ONCE TOLD MY CREDIT WOULD BE RAN…had I of been advised I could of let them know it’s locked as I am looking to purchase a home. Now I have to dispute the inquiry with the bureaus. Very upsetting, and then the only other option was to purchase out right, which had the service nor been so poor and my credit run without consent we would have purchased. We immediately went to another music store less than 5 miles away that had exceptional customer service and received my business for my childsInstrument and other materials and even enrolled in music lessons. I’m sure they could care less but I will be telling everyone to avoid this location.

They have very limited hours. Continually made it difficult to return dUe tO cOvId. Then wouldnt return the partial months payment when we could finally return it. Save yourself the money and headache and buy instruments elsewhere.

My mom and I went to go get a few materials for my clarinet the other day. We walked in and the first thing I noticed was the workers were not wearing masks. Was I surprised? No, because of previous visits I almost expected that from the owner. Were in a global pandemic and people that are cleaning the instrument I put in my mouth are not wearing masks??? Wow. Im begging people to wear a mask please. I would give this place 0 stars but I have a nice clarinet from there and there havent been too many problems. 0 stars for the no masks though.Edit: The person who was helping us checkout was not the manager and was not wearing a mask.

I’ve been planning on buying a new horn for myself. Looking around online there’s nothing you can’t call “pricey.” My school had someone from musical innovations bring some new horns for us to try out. They were the real deal, sounded great and were a lot cheaper than I imagined. Naturally, I feel like I’ll buy horn in the next year or so.Regardless, if you are interested in purchasing, renting, or fixing a your instrument, this is the place. Some other online reviews are extremely negative, I recommend to just go to the store and “look around” like I have. They have people ready to help if you ask.

Weve been customers of Musical Innovations since 2015 when my son played clarinet at Hillcrest Middle and moved on to Mauldin High Marching Band. My daughter played the viola all through middle school. The customer service was exceptional each and every time weve had to visit MI for a size-up or to purchase music books, or to get one of the instruments repaired. And each time was such a nice personal experience. The staff recognizes us and the kids, and every interaction we had was warm and informative and professional.I want to say thank you to the staff at Musical Innovations for everything and I cannot recommend them enough to families whose kiddos are starting to play for the first time.

I was pleased to hear the owners response to the mask concern an earlier customer left. I really feel for him/her. COVID has made business so tough that a business owner feels the need to share their medical history etc. to avoid future harm to the business. It is important that we dont jump to conclusions - nor express a frustration on a google review when we had the opportunity to ask, clarify and express a matter while standing in front of the person and fully able to ask a question - or ask ones mother to do so.In light of COVID, Id think wed all take care to wash our instruments whenever anyone handles them - especially after going into the shop. These reviews represent peoples livelihoods. While an employee can just go get another job, a small business owner can be seriously impacted by a review - and unable to simply walk away from the ramification of hastily placed keystrokes.COVID is already placing inordinately heavy burdens on these owners, lets be generous in our assessments rather than add to them.

Good experience overall and happy with my purchase. Good customer service and friendly sales people. Just one thing I found to be very unprofessional. Both sales ladies we talked to had absolutely no clue what the violin was made of. One simply said its probably wood and that she didnt know...and the other was just as bad, suggesting maybe pine or plywood.I had to explain that we wouldnt be paying for a violin made of plywood, before she took it upon herself to go find out.Im guessing no one in the store at the time knew because she had to go look the exact model up online to find out. I think if Im buying an instrument of any price, I should be able to ask any questions and not get a look of confusion back. Even a simple Thats a good question. Im not sure but I will find out right now for you! wouldve been better.

Love the store and location; however, the lady who has helped me on two different occasions is very abrasive and condescending, so I decided not to go back. I see a number of reviews mentioning the same thing and I’m assuming it is the same woman (the other staff I talked to were kind and helpful), so I hope that steps can be made toward creating a better customer experience. I ended up driving across town to go to Pecknel’s for my rental and received excellent service and got exactly what I needed.

This is the WORST music store ever. They actually came into the classroom yesterday and repossessed a students instrument in the middle of class in front of all his friends! I have no problem w/ the repossession, but you dont embarrass a child for what a parent has or has not done. I will never do business w/ this company and I will voice my disapproval with anyone who asks!! You better believe Ill be spreading the word!Response to the owner: Uh, I dont have my facts wrong. I was there when it happened, and I can assure you he did take it from the kid in the middle of his band class with all this friends watching. The only thing you have right is that it was not my child- our instruments were bought outright from a more reputable company, thank goodness! Everything else was just as I described. You need to get your facts straight!

They get great value in the rental instruments (the lowest rates in town), and they also get a quality instrument that I do not have to fight with every week. The staff she hires is completely knowledgeable and when I call her and ask for help she points me in the direction I need to go. Im a student at a local college and I was struggling with trombone in my tech course this past fall. Bobby Powell worked with me for an hour helping me understand how to play trombone. Laughed at our violin we brought in to have assessed for playability saying it was a Chinese knock off as if we were ridiculous for even owning it.She denied answering my one simple question more than 3 times in a row as she just tried to force us to go sit down to talk to a person about rentals. We were needing to be elsewhere so did not have time to wait. All I was asking was for the base price of a monthly rental. Took our business to Bernhardt House of Violins where we received exemplary service and will reccomend over Musical Innovations any day in regards to service, price, and knowledge.

Wonderful place to get deals and make a smart decision to start your musical career and keep it going, like I did from being a string bass player to euphonium/tuba player in all my time at Riverside Middle School and Woodruff Middle/High School.

Tracy’s attentive listening may have brought the joy of playing back for a senior player. My father has played trombone for a number of years, but hearing loss forced him to switch to a baritone. The used model he bought elsewhere a few years ago was so heavy that he was only able to play it for a short time and due to the position of the bell, it could not be played on his lap. Tracy understood the predicament my father was in and suggested two possible replacements. We went over each and I decided on the lighter of the two. Another associate described the various playing positions my dad could use and even oiled the valves so he could play it when we take it to him in Florida. Best of all, they are willing to let him try it out before making the purchase final, which I greatly appreciate. Whether my father ultimately decides to go with this baritone or another, I can’t thank Tracy enough for carefully listening to my and my dad’s needs and helping us find the best baritone.

Reading the previous reviews, I was prepared for fair, to-the-point service, and thats exactly what I received. I brought my instrument in for a repair, and there was a miscommunication on the cost. They did not try to charge me more than what was communicated to me, even though the final cost was higher. We also talked about starting my son on my instrument, and I was advised on the way the middle schools handle mouthpiece testing and instrument selection. This was great information. I will say that they are very direct. Some might interpret this as rude, but its clear that they only want whats best for their customers to make sure that the appropriate expectations are set up front. I highly recommend them and will bring my business to them from now on.

As a violinist, I’ve never been to Musical Innovations (My instrument is from Bernhardt) mostly due to a bad experience my older sister had with their customer service and quality. When my sister rented her first viola, it was in TERRIBLE shape, and when she took it back to the store, they blamed her for the bad quality, when they gave it to her in bad quality. If you want to play a good quality instrument, and you are serious about wanting to learn, I would not recommend Musical Innovations. (This was several years ago when this happened, but i’ve not seen an improvement in quality from their instruments since)

I have been renting from Musical Innovations for 3 years. The one time I have taken the instrument in for repairs not only do I get fussed at for it not being completely clean (my child was in 3rd grade and her instrument mostly stayed at school) they also had it for a MONTH. I had to call constantly to see why my child was going without her instrument with excuse after excuse. Flash forward to this past November. The card on the account was a joint account I shared with my ex husband. The account was closed and they REFUSED to take his card. Eventually they did finally take it after several months. Now all of a sudden AGAIN they are refusing to take his card. Catherine is extremely rude and unprofessional. She has called my cellphone, even texting my cellphone from a cellphone. I got a call at my job this week - 30 seconds after they left a message on my cellphone. The line disconnected and I immediately called back to tell him to not call my job, but Catherine answers...and being VERY familiar with the situation...she offers to take a message instead of allowing me to tell the guy I spoke with to not call my job (who I can hear in the background whispering to her). So I tell her not to call my job and to call my childs dad for payment. Now, suddenly she cant legally talk to him about his childs account that bears the same last name and address on the card she has been using. So since she wont stop being condescending and rude I hang up on her on my work phone. She proceeds to immediately call my cellphone yet again and leave a nasty message telling me that it was rude of me to hang up and threatening to have me charged with theft. What theft? The payment is 2 days late. She is a wretched woman and has always been rude from day one. Do NOT do business with these people!!! Nothing but a headache.

Being that I have personally played my instrument since I was in 6th grade and currently heavily involved in playing music (even got a full scholarship to grad school for being in universitys band), I brought my 11 year old daughter to this store since she missed out on the districts musical instrumentation selections, and wanted to see which instrument she would be akin to and take lessons here. The staff was very friendly and encouraging, but when they went to get owners approval, her negativity and pessimism toward my daughter and myself was emotionally devastating. She basically claimed she didnt want to waste time having my child try their instruments to see which one shed like. Owner told me to first go to my childs school and speak with band director to see if there was a needed instrument before she would do anything. I even asked which instrument was not very popular. She mentioned french horn and I asked if she could try that. She refused to allow it. I honestly felt like I was back in the 1940s in a shop that refused service to me for no logical reason. Very unpleasant experience and I will never go back.
