Big Y has everything I need in a grocery store allot of sales buy one get one free, large selection of foods, good baked goods and hot food to choose from If in the area I highly recommend this grocery store they also have one in Mystic, Connecticut as well.. I give them Five ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍👍
Has local produce (usually in and bordering states), honey, soda (from Foxon Park and others) and other items like Two Guys teas. They also carry Lyman Orchard pies and cider (which is delicious). Best pizza dough from their pizza shop to use for homemade pizza (you can make it thinner than they do). Good deli variety. Decent Fish and Chips from the seafood market. Definitely recommend for grocery and pizza (when you dont want to make it yourself). Pick up Paczki when in season!
The Groton location has always been the best! Throughout the pandemic, the staff kept the store so clean and stocked. Whenever I need something, the staff always comes through for me. Love this place 💞
Absolutely the worst pharmacy I have every been to ever. Told me they wouldnt honor my insurance price. Zero customer service. As I sat outside the closed pharmacy (15 mins after scheduled opening) 3 employees (and Im pretty sure one was a manager) RIGHT THERE couldnt tell me the pharmacist was running late? I will no longer be supporting this location with our weekly groceries or medications, which is a shame... Truely awful experience.
Beautiful store. Well kept and all the bells and whistles for a high end market. Time I was there could have used a couple more cashiers but overall would come back again
I do most of my shopping at Big Y because my apartment complex is directly behind the store. The store is for people like myself, a senior living alone. Single portion meals and a seafood dept. that caters to take out fish & chips along with other seafood dinners. I dont drive so I must go there. If I could, Id prefer to go to Shoprite in New London lower prices and better variety.
Love the pizza there they always do an amazing job
This old woman behind the prepared food counter today had an UNCALLED for, bad sharp attitude toward me this morning, just asking about wen they were going to put a certain food out. 😕 I will call corporate, I dont like being treated that way.
Order my pizza in advance. Do my shopping and they announce my name when it’s ready. The best pizza in town. You can’t beat the price which is another asset.
Would it be a bad idea to heve Senior Hours (esp w/DELTA Variant ), BIG Y???? Stop & Shop and Shop Rite do...
Though the variety in produce is a bit lacking, this is my favorite grocery store around here.
With all of the recent changes in math requirements I was so happy and relieved to see everyone in the store still wearing a mask. It makes me feel safer going in knowing everyone is still masking
I Just had the best experience in my Groton Ct. Big Y !!! With it being Memorial Day I had to work so I guess I thought I would treat myself to some delicious chicken wings from Big Y but as luck would have it there was none to be found 🥵 so I saw one of the managers Karen I hope I got her name correct and she was talking to a young lady I hated to interrupt but my dinner was at stake 😂 I asked can I order some chicken wings or is it too late And the manager said well ask her Who turned out to be La shonda who works in the prepared food department!! Yes now we’re getting somewhere!! She said to me give me 10-15 minutes and I’ll do this for you 😍! I then said I really love the flats of the wings and she said again I got you! And she certainly did she mostly gave me all flats now this lady deserves some recognition Lashonda if you are reading this review You shine girl ! And those were excellent wings ❤️
Friendly and wonderful staff! Great supermarket all around!
Always fresh baked goods or prepared foods and always a great selection of items and the sales are usually good.
This is very clean store and and they have excellent cuts of steak
I Ordered are dinner from Big Y. They have a great. Fish fry every Friday. If you like fish and chips you have to try theres its pretty darn good.
Nice large store. Appetizing displays of food.i liiked the presliced packages of meat in deli section. Saves time from butcher counter.
It really is World Class Market. Today was the first time I went to Big Y. My experience was a WOW experience. Never expected to see so much fresh produce....
Being from New Hampshire there is definitely a price increase in everything.
Big Y is a very clean store and the food is always fresh
I dont shop exclusively at BIG Y. When there is a sale though, its generally a good one. For instance, cod (Captains cut) $5.99lb. Great. Always good seafood department.
This is a very clean and always stocked grocery store. There are distance markers on floors but nobody follows them or the up and down aisles. There is a bakery, deli, seafood and meat counter. Theres a section for already made heat up meals. Fresh made pizza and sub sandwiches. Very good prices and online coupons.
I go there almost every day. I have a small fridge. Best meat section.
Shop there for my client. I just think theyre too expensive.
Clean store well managed, able to find every thing you need and then some.
Decent store, its a big y. Since covid started stock is sporadic on a lot of items that other stores have plenty of stock. Not sure whats going on with there grocer but they dont seem to be to good at ordering stuff
Great inventory. Hot food, cold food, and regular supermarket items.
Some good sales and some overpriced items...great healthy store made fresh meals in a bag, just cook and eat (right in the bag). Fresh seafood.
One of the best grocery stores to shop at. I have never had a bad experience there!!
Store is usually well stocked and staffed.
Food was hot when we received it.
Possibly due to the coming storm, shelves were mostly empty.
It seems like theres no one grocery store in the area that has everything you need. you cant really just go to big y or stop & shop and get everything you need for the best price you have to do a little mixing and matching.this is just my opinion but somehow big y manages to find the smallest produce available And they generally cost more than what youll pay at stop & shop. That said big ys deli is much better than stop & shop. Their store brand is just as good as boars Head in my opinion. They also have a lot better grab and go dishes. But where Big Y gets you is in its prices. Sure they have weekly specials like every other grocery store but they get you good on the things that arent advertised.they also got rid of their golden coin and silver coins specials which was one of the main benefits of going there. And maybe Im just unlucky but they seem to stop caring so many of the products that I go there specifically for. Ive asked at the courtesy desk numerous times if I can special order something and was told that they would have the dept manager contact me. They never have.
Went to get salmon today and the girl behind the counter Kayla Marie ignored me and took a seafood order of the lady behind me instead of taking my order when I was in line before before thus lady. She was very rude.
We wait all year, for the Pączki! The bakery staff are always helpful and friendly, and they actually filled a couple of doughnuts to order, because they ran out in the case!Update: I just wanted to add a TY, because they actually made chocolate covered raspberry filled for my husband!
I went there to see if they had bigy spice drops.I looked in the candy isle, none there( they have been out of them since Christmas). I did look around the store. I finally found them in a rotary bin.
Big y is a great excellent place to shop the prices are reasonable and they have most of shells stocked with what you need
They had cashiers at the registers. Way to go Big Y!!
This is my home store love their customer service, theyre American Owned and Operated, theyre a New England Com.Many yrs ago I asked them if they could help out the GOV workers who were getting furloughed. And they did in a heart beat where as another store (S+S) laughed at the suggestion.
Wow, much bigger than the 1 near me! Love Big Y. A little more expensive than other groceries, but worth it for the fresh goods. :)
I really like shopping at Big Y. I love all the changes they made to the store. The employees are super nice and helpful . I want to thank all the employees that continue to work through this dangerous virus. What would we do if you heros didnt come in every day to keep the store open . Things are really bad, but we will make it through this as long as everyone can feed their familys and stay strong. God bless and keep you all safe.
This grocery store has very narrow isles. The cashier was sullen and unfriendly. I did not enjoy my shopping experience.
Loved their Chocolate Marshmallow Ice Cream, was disappointed to find they no longer carry it. :-(
Not sure you called this a veggie pizza. Paper thin diced veggies, onion and olives with barley any green paper. Understood it is cheap but common now. No way compare to even fast food (qsr) joints.i have pictures. If you want to see.
Always great service!!
Deli...important to me..An hour wait..1 person behind the counter. One very helpful employeeRYAN helped get my order much quicker.
Big Y is one of the best regional grocery stores ever. Its almost better than Wegmans, Ralphs, or Vons.
Love their fresh produce, always friendly and courteous. I will like the pizza department to be more friendly and organized.
Our orders, party size pizzas and grinders, for my sons birthday party were not made. My husband was told no order received and the staff was rude to him when he came to pick them up. Our guests had to wait for foods! The good thing is we have the phone calls recorded and the name of the person who took the orders from me. On the other hand, the bakeshop did great. They had our cupcakes order ready and nicely done!
Again the only grocery store I shop at
One of the best places to shop for your family
Love big y..always got good hot foods & seafood!
Good food, somewhat more expensive for fresh vegetables than other places.
Excellent selection of Fresh Produce! Only place, in town, I was able to get corn-on-the-cob, for a Family Picnic! The Staff were courteous, kind, & friendly, as well!
Fresh foods at reasonable prices!!!
Went to self check out and was having a terrible time and I asked this young man to help asked him twice- he came over with a smile and then hustled back to continue back to wiping down I believe his name is Edwin I believe. But what a way to start a day. Thank you you are a asset to big y and you are like the tv ads for big y.thank you
I am now a former employee. When I first got the job I was very excited to get the opportunity to work for a very known company in this world. I had started out in the deli department and was doing very well, I had received a lot of special “world class performance” awards for great customer service, hard work, and speed in what I did. Because of what I had accomplished I was promoted to the the food service department, and immediately tried to accomplish the same things I had done during my deli career. This is where things started to turn around, my first 5 months in the food service department I was completely mistrained and left alone to make over 40 party pizzas in a day while having to take my lunches sometimes with an hour after I had started my shift and then not receive another break for about 5 hours after... Now being full time the company allows 1 30 minute lunch, and 2 15 minute breaks per 8 hour shift. I was in the food service department for over a year basically walking into work knowing that i was going to have to go through hell THE ENTIRE WEEKEND. After the company had figured out that they had left one of their full time employees alone without basic training they had brought in a new manager to speed up my process. The manager quickly recognized my talent and helped me move forward. Soon enough I was in almost complete control on how to make pizzas! I was feeling good about the job once again! But my title when I took the full time position was a “food service specialist”. I had told management I needed to learn the entire department to move up in the company, management refused to train me saying “nobody else wanted to make pizza“ . I took that as a challenge and tried to make the best out of my situation still being alone and have to take breaks early or none at all. As my career in the food service department went on I was harassed by numerous employees swearing at me, saying I had no friends, and even the current deli manager assaulting me on one of my breaks. I had told the current store director Tom Socha that a manager assaulted me and that other employees had been completely rude! The company as a whole did nothing about it! I tried to continue my job but always had to watch my back which isn’t something any employee should have to do! At any job! All these incidents had happened about 2 months ago in June. And after that almost every single manager In the store had treated me like complete dirt! I received daily compliments from customers And regional directors! I was just recently let go talking about the “jeepers creepers” horror movie to another employee! Because of how they treated me I will no longer shop there and I don’t recommend anybody else to shop or apply for work there! That store treats their employees like trash!
I love this store. It’s always clean and organized. It’s very easy to shop and the employees are very friendly. The sushi is fresh and delicious and better then restaurant sushi.I know it has nothing to do with the store employees or managers but I can’t give them a 5 stars because how expensive Big Y is.
My favorite big y
Alot of great deals
A good supermarket with large selection and great produce but a bit pricey compared to others.
Husband works for this organization ...I have to like it.
They have just about all you need.
Very good prices, well stocked, courteous service, health guidelines followed. I dont shop anywhere else.
Found everything I was looking for and store is doing the best in keeping up with COVID-19 guidelines.
Everyone is nice and helpful.
Its very clean employees are very friendly and always willing to help great supermarket on certain days it can be crowded and overwhelming when there are a lot of people shopping or at the pharmacy. The food is fresh, cheap, and its local in the area of Groton town.
Only grocery store I shop at.
The bottle/can redemption machine doesnt take regular PEPSI cans. Why???
Groton Big Y is following COVID-19 protocols. Store is clean, as it usually is, with clear markings for aisle directions. Employees are following guidelines. Barriers are up to protect customers and employees. Carts at entrance are wiped dowm and ready for customers. Fairly stocked with most items. Our go to supermarket. (Recently noticed on 7/16 that some shoppers are oblivious to arrows in aisles, and physical distancing. Which was not occurring previously. Other than individual customers being laxed, same clean, cautious store.)
Good place to shop
We do like it they have everything you would want but their prices need to peak now because things are getting too expensive for the average guy on myself on social security I cannot afford to buy even a half a pound of roast beef or anything like that because it is so expensive you need to do something about that I dont believe that your prices have gone up as to when you buy this meat I think that you are doing a profit margin and its getting wider and wider
The selection is decent. Its pretty standard for a grocery store, but it can get pricey. My biggest complaint is with the staff. They are extremely rude. They either ignore you or insult you. I dont expect much from grocery store employees, help is generally not needed when I grocery shop, but I do expect some sort of human decency and courteous interaction.During one visit, I approached the pizza counter and two female employees were standing around looking at ones cell phone. Another employee walked passed them and said guest at the counter. They continued to ignore me and stare at the phone. I assumed since they knew I was there I didnt have to call for attention. I waited for a few minutes before I finally gave up and walked away. As I was walking away, I heard one of the females saying She didnt need any help. She then proceeded to yell at me You didnt need any help, right? Maybe she should have gotten off the phone and asked without yelling down the store.Another visit I had said excuse me several times to an employee who was stocking, because I needed something he was blocking. He proceeded to ignore me, and I had to wait for him to finish before grabbing what I needed. It only took a few seconds for me to grab it. Granted, it was only 1-2 minutes before he finished, but completely ignoring a customer is rude.A woman at the seafood counter also told me I should be smiling. Its not like I was frowning or angry, but apparently it didnt please her that I wasnt walking around the store with a grin on my face. This after we had to repeat our order 5 times before she finally got it. She should focus more on doing her job and less on my facial expressions. The customer service counter is a joke.Unfortunately this is the closest store to us, but I think well drive a bit further next time, so we dont have to be insulted and ignored.
Love the employees here. Hot food is great for the price and the deli is super well stocked. If they have something in the back but dont have it out theyve opened it for me before too. Love shopping local.
Always great service and selection
Great place, high quality produce and meat, with a great deli section.
I have never have a bad experience at Big Y. Employees are friendly and helpful!
Very friendly and helpful staff!
Estefany is probably the kindest, most efficient cashier EVER. She should train all your cashiers.
Great prices and friendly people
Big Y world class Market is awesome it was clean.
Good place to shop for groceries and a great variety of produce. The staff is very helpful. The bakery has a good variety of breads to choose from. Its pizzas are also good.
5/18/2020 I really hate giving big Y2 stars . But I was really unhappy with the service today at big Y. The saddest thing about seeing this is that theyve done a very good job for the longest time. Im not sure after today whether I will shop at this big white anymore.
Alittle expensive, but the quality of the food is worth it
More expensive but you can shop small and be selective to stay on budget to be cost effective.
Fish & chip be on point😎
Everyone is very helpful and good quality food.
Big Y is a clean grocery store with a large selection of foods. Grocery prices are definitely a little high. They have a cafe and bakery which both make fresh food. The pizza at the cafe is reasonably priced and would rank in the top 5 pizzas I have had.
I love big y always the freshest foods and produce .
My favorite food store always clean and good service
Bought some chestnut. Half of them were bad and i had to trash them. Big y have the pri e of chestnut as $8 plus per pound. I was expecting to have a good quality chestnut with this price.
Favorite market by far
Produce is fresh and non-gmo. They also carry chicken bacon which I like.
Very good and very helpful
