I am in my final year of college at JMU and I have used them for everything from oil changes to engine repair. They are extremely honest, professional and fast. My sophomore year I brought my car to them because I was concerned I needed new brakes after taking a look at it they were honest and told me I did not need them when they easily could have charged me for a whole new set. Earlier this year my radiator blew and they fixed it quickly and when I showed the bill to a family friend who is a mechanic he was shocked at how reasonable it was. I cannot recommend them enough an honest small business that you can trust to do any work you may need!

The team at Shenandoah Automotive is incredible and always so friendly. I have used them since I started driving, but I recently moved out of Harrisonburg. I came to them for a second opinion on my car, and they saved me thousands - literally. They do not try to cheat you out of any money and are honest people. They always get the job done and even follow up with a phone call to make sure everything is working alright a few days after. This place is unbeatable, and I’m sad I live 2 hours away but I will likely now drive 2 hours to use them because I can trust them. I came in at 11:00 am on a Monday and they still got me in and taken care of before close. I got brake pads, rotors, a new headlight, and a oil change. They were very professional and extremely nice. I highly recommend them for your automotive needs.

Aside from the always prompt and dependable service, I have a tremendous amount of respect for how I’ve seen him work to ensure all his customers are taken care of - even the few that seem unhappy for one reason or another.Let’s face it, we all depend on our vehicles and we can take it very personally when we get news we aren’t expecting. And even the best shops run into unexpected issues. I was told my our local Firestone shop that my vehicle needed suspension control arm bushings in order to pass inspection. Cost was $688.I took the vehicle to Shenandoah. A truly exceptional experience, and one of the few places anywhere in this industry that I actually trust. My wife broke down in Myrtle Beach, where she took her car to a AAA certified shop. They fixed the wrong issue to the tune of $600. To make matters worse, they actually broke a piece they werent even installing, didnt bother to fix it, and left another piece unhooked, so when she got to VA Beach and took it to another AAA certified shop, thats what they found and assumed the issue was once again fixed. They are actually an outstanding shop, but with the issue being intermittent, they didnt realize that they didnt fix the issue either. So the relevant part... Once she got back to Harrisonburg where we live, we took the car here, a other AAA certified dealer, apparently the only one in the valley actually. So Shenandoah Auto FINALLY found the actual problem to be fixed after a long and difficult hunt, and if I though most people reading this were mechanically inclined, I would explain in more detail, but lets just say that this was a very VERY difficult issue to figure out, but they did! On top of that, they were extremely fair in dealing with us when it came to the actual issue of fixing the problem. Steven is who usually answers the phone, and he is an absolutely awesome guy to deal with... All in all, I cant think of any reason not to take your car here if you live in the valley... Youll get a great job at a very fair price... Wonderful experience all around. Thanks!!!

Wednesday we ran into a serious crisis on Route 81 South at the rest stop at Mile 232. Out truck had been dripping oil from the rear end, quite possibly since we left New Jersey 350 miles earlier to begin a 5000 mile roadtrip. I called AAA and they recommended Shenandoah Auto in Harrisonburg. I gave them a call and an angelic voice told me to bring it on in. So we did. Steven looked it over and an internal nut was loose which caused the damage. We had just had the bearings changed in May. Sadly they were ruined again and had to be replaced. It was already quite late in the day so our angel, sorry I dont know your name, drove us to the local Holiday Inn Express so they could do the repairs the next morning.Thursday she drove us back to the shop and we got back on the road. Thank you Steven and staff for your courteous treatment and professional repair. A special thank you to the reception counter angel for taking such good care of us. You know who you are.

My experience here was great. Honest prices and decent people working, cant really expect any more. The person working at the time was patient (cant remember his name), given the fact that I decided to leave to run some errands after dropping my vehicle off. Got my vehicle back same day while it was snowing, WITH a foot of snow already on the ground. My major reason for leaving a review (which is long overdue, considering the fact that I had my truck inspected back in 2010) was because Shenandoah Automotive was one of the very few businesses that sent me a thank-you card! I recently was going through documents left over from my college years, and found their thank-you note tucked away, thinking it would remind me to leave a review. Not sure if Chuck and Sylvia still run the place, but I would definitely return if I was ever back in Harrisonburg and needed a vehicle worked on.To the people who left bad reviews: Just because another mechanic does something differently does not mean its right. Your family mechanic wants to stay just that, so it would make sense if that mechanic would pass your vehicle just to keep your business. Please get over yourself.

My car was broken down and limped into their parking lot. I asked for 5 minutes of their time to use their code reader for the check engine light. They refused saying Id need to leave it there all weekend and pay for a full diagnostic. I limped down to AutoZone, got them to use their code reader (less than 5 minutes), found out it was just a coil pack and fixed it right there.Thanks for NOTHING*Update: they can reply and twist what happened to make it seem as though its my fault but it doesnt change the fact that they prefered to give me no assistance rather than help me with something they couldnt charge for. I know how the code reader works and I explained it to them but the woman behind the desk did not understand what I was talking about. They may have been busy but a code reader takes less than two minutes to give a diagnosis. I offered to wait until someone could spare 2 minutes (less than a smoke break) but they would not work with me. It is BS to twist this and try to offer a noble reason for not doing a simple code reader test.

Had an air conditioning problem. They were able to get me in quick, fix the problem, and didnt charge me an arm and a leg but could have easily done so. Ill be back as Arnold would say.

DO NOT GO HERE. I took my car here to get inspected while away at school. I waited for an hour and a half for them to give me a big list of reasons they couldnt pass my car. I was shocked. There had never been anything seriously wrong with my car before. After taking it to my familys mechanic back home, I was surprised to discover there was nothing wrong with my car except for needing a new muffler.

When my daughter Ford started acting up while at JMU we took it to the local dealer and they couldnt figure out the problem. I as concerned about trying to find someone we could trust with her car. If your getting a car alignment make sure to request the print out of the alignment before you pay!! After they supposedly did the alignment and I had paid it took them another 20min or more of work on my vehicle to be able to show me the alignment print out

We picked up the car declining to replace a very expensive fuel pump we were being told was the cause of a stalling problem. We got handed a bill for $200 for diagnostics and a fuel filter replacement. The fuel pump didnt seem to make sense and sure enough the car was towed to another shop 2 days later where the intake manifold and MAP sensor was replaced; the car now runs fine.I have not verified the following but I was told this shop used to be AAA approved but it was recently sold and if thats the case any older reviews should be ignored.
