I got a positive vibe from the place. Service was good. Servers were friendly. Place was pretty full but weather was nice enough we found an outside table. There are only four or five outside tables. Paid almost $5 for an Ethiopian coffee pour-over. No reflection on the barista but whoever roasted it didnt get it sufficiently done because it had an overpowering green plant flavor. Not at all what I was expecting from an Ethiopian Coffee Bean. My companion who also ordered the same said the flavor reminded him of fermented grass...
This place is awesome! I’m on vacation and forgot to bring chemex filters with me, so I stopped here to pick some up. I also ordered an oat milk latte with caramel and it was phenomenal! the baristas were so friendly and the shop itself was lovely. if I lived around here, I would come here all the time. definitely recommend!
WOW!! What a wonderful experience this coffee shop was! Located in the center of Harrisonburg Virginia in what looks like a refurbished old factory building. The coffee shop itself is large with plenty of comfortable seating options ( sofas and armchairs ) as well as plenty of tables and chairs! They also carry their own line of T-shirt’s and sweatshirts! The Coffee is outstanding and the offer a great variety of pastry with Vegan options as well! The Staff is very attentive and friendly! What a GREAT FIND!!
Oat milk cappuccino was the perfect foaminess and tasted as a cappuccino should. Atmosphere is wonderful with all of the art pieces hanging around and there is plenty of lounge options in the chill sit-down area. Def a nice place to wind down and refill your caffeine levels.
Friendly staff, good mocha. Tucked up in this odd little corner. Also, they have a cozy spot by the window thats good for losing yourself in that subliminal state of nothing but coffee.
It was nice! The coffee was decent, very hidden location made it difficult to find. Not a fan of them NOT asking for your name for orders because I grabbed the wrong sandwich.Food tasted great though! Taste was worth the price, but portion size was not.I got an iced vanilla latte and it was decent, both grateful and disliked the fact it wasnt sweeter.
Confusing, disorganized food pick up. Why take our name if you arent going to use it?We had our good taken by other customers and had to wait a long time for our food.
Stopped here twice while visiting the area and enjoyed it thoroughly. Great coffee, proper espresso bar, really good breakfast sandwiches on biscuits with goat cheese (other options too of course).
Good food and open early! The only early game in town really which was useful to fuel up before early morning treks into the national park. The coffee was good, London fog was a little bitter. The bacon egg and cheese is dry, but if you ask for extra cheese you’re golden. The chorizo breakfast burrito is also good!Nice waitstaff/baristas too. Lots of space to sit and spread out inside.
Friendly staff, great breakfast sandwiches and desserts. Im no coffee connoisseur, but I really liked the latte I got. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Nice and cozy inside, good amount of space to sit.
Cute Cafe. Food was good. Friendly service
Coffee is always good. Oddly, they were of eggs when we arrived at about 10am for breakfast on a Sunday.
This place is so amazing! Good drinks, good food and a great environment, whether youre going to do work or just going to meet up with a friend for a little break. Highly recommend visiting!
The staff was OK. I didnt care for the taste of their coffee.
My mom doesn’t know how to use google but wanted me to write this place a review lol. great coffee and oat milk lattes. + the food was really good :) employees were so nice and helpful with my mom and her friend (and all their questions). my mom gives it 5/5 stars
These baristas know there stuff! Maybe one of the best cups of pour-over I’ve had. We came in ~5 mins to close and they were super friendly with us and we had a great experience. If you’re in Harrisonburg looking for a great cup, this is the place to go.
Super cute hipster coffee shop in an old factory complex turned coffee/brewery/restaurant/apartment scene close to downtown Harrisonburg. Breakfast biscuit sandwich got a thumbs up from my boyfriend and they had gluten-free bread and wrap options as well as lots of yummy looking gluten-full bakery items made in-house. The cappuccinos were European-style and better-than-average, although not quite up to my ongoing high standards of Blue Bottle.
Really nice place to hang out. They also have multiple small study rooms if you are looking for someplace to study. We had cappuccino, cabbage onion puff pastry and a slice of banana walnut bread. Everything was great but my favorite was banana walnut bread. Absolutely scrumptious!
Super affordable local coffee shop! Highly recommend it.
Good food. Friendly service. Comfey seating groups .
Visited on 10/18 and most of the patrons were tightly packed without masks on in the dining room and unmasked patrons freely walked around the shop with no masks. The employee passing out food/coffee orders had no mask on and talked directly over coffees with no lids spraying germs into all of them.Straws and lids were left on a table and not individually packed providing significant risk of COVID-19 since you have to reach into a bucket of unwrapped straws to get one. One persons germs would get on 10 straws if they retrieved one.Coffee was fine but not worth dying over.
Good products but was not satisfied with the way we were treated.
Such delicious latte and probably the best banana bread I had in my life. Croissant egg sandwich was on point, not oily. Very cozy atmosphere with couches. Was a bit difficult to find as its not directly on the street
Had so much potential, but my husbands hot mocha came cold as did my quiche. I would not recommend as they werent even busy. Pros: Everything tasted good, clean facility, nice staff, cute vibe.
DONT WORRY... its not actual sheep making your coffee
Probably a great college kid hang out but not comfortable, not sure what we were listening to and the two attempts to heat my quiche failed.
The biscuit! Oh my God. Flaky, tender, buttery, perfect. Would come again just for that.
I have been coming here for years and I enjoy the environment. However, today the Wifi connectivity kept giving me DSN error messages. I was unable to connect to the websites that I connect to normally from home. To make matters worse, I usually have great customer service but the cashier approached me and was like you have to buy something in order to stay. Which is obviously fine and something I intended on doing after I stopped struggling with the internet issue. After I asked why the internet was having problems she said well there are a lot of people. Overall, one of my favorite cafes to come to, but I guess this lady was having a bad day because she was very rude to me. She could have been more polite in her delivery.
Used to love this place. Last two times it has taken 30+ minutes to get a couple of breakfast biscuits. Had to return to the register to ask about our order both times. They lost our order both times. Coffee is the best in town. Definitely need some organizational help.
Large selection of pastries and some good easy breakfast food options. Coffee was good too. Good space and friendly service.
Always a great place for a latte and a quick breakfast or lunch!
Great vibe here with overall great coffee, staff was cheerful
Aside from the name at first appearing quirky I knew from the online description of the java quality that this would be an excellent place to have a better than good cup of ambrosia/coffee! BlackSheepCoffeeHouse, thank you for the outdoor seating felt very safe.Service, we won’t mention and every thing we had to eat was delicious! Especially The Best cafe I’v Enjoyed in Months. Excellent thank you
Fantastic little indie coffee shop. The pour-over is excellent with a variety of bean options and the bacon egg and cheese biscuit is heavenly.
Delicious coffee featuring local roasters! The space is wonderful for enjoying a cup by yourself, with friends, or while studying. They offer oat milk as a milk alternative, and that makes me so happy because Im allergic to soy and cant drink milk. Also, they make amazing breakfast sandwiches, paninis, salads, and pastries! If you like cinnamon rolls, you definitely need to try the ones Black Sheep make - so good!
Wonderful hidden gem of a coffeeshop with an industrial yet cozy feel. Ample interior seating space, and even a couple of study nooks. Both the black coffee and the breakfast wrap were excellent. Will definitely drop in again the next time Im in town.
One of my all time favorite coffee shops! Such a great place to study or spend time with a friend. I definitely recommend stopping by!
Great atmosphere, awesome staff, average coffee, and a very clean establishment. But my sandwhich was eh. Probablu wont be back
Its ambiance is really pretty. I ordered a pumpkin spiced latte and it was really good.
Wonderful employees! They work so hard and are always fun and kind. Their teas, mochas, and lattes are all really good.
Good food, amazingly smooth latte, BUT they got to put a better sign outside to be found by car. Otherwise its a huge circle to find it if you pass it, due to RR.
Had some pour over coffee here and mmmm mmm that coffee was right... Too bad I live too far away to visit regularly.
Great place for latte and spend time with your loved ones
Customer service is rude and condescending. Coffee is good however
Unusual and funky space in a reclaimed building. A little hard to find at first, it fronts onto kind of a loading area, but also to an arcade from the parking lot. This is a nice, quiet spot to do some reading or some work with comfy chairs in seating areas, big tables, and desks in cubbies. It is not the most informally social of spaces, it is definitely set up for working. Coffee and baked goods are great, so overall this is a great, if slightly hidden place to pass the time working hard or hardly working!
Food was good but I cannot believe I paid $3.50 for the coffee I received. It tasted like water with a splash of coffee. I do like my coffee on a stronger side so could just be me. Unfortunately I was long gone before I ask them for different coffee or give them a chance to remedy the coffee.
Great ambiance, especially if youre coming in for study time. Coffee is high quality.
The coffee was fantastic and I loved the cute, coffee-shop feel environment, I just wish they had more food.
I spilled my cinnamon brown sugar latte all over myself today...all b/c i didnt have a top and when i got in the car i placed the cup between my knees to lather up with some hand sanitizer b/c of this fake pandemic, and then it tipped...UGHHHHHHHHH !!!
Awesome little shop tucked in a little corner by the railroad tracks. The atmosphere and friendly service are great!
There is an informational poster hanging on the wall near the bathroom warning about the dangers of government surveillance drones disguised as common pigeons. I have been warning about this threat for years so I am happy to see people start taking it more seriously.
Best coffee in Harrisburg. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Sometimes a bit crowded during peak times, but never a long wait for coffee. I recommend this place to all my fellow coffee snobs.
Great atmosphere. Quality of coffee and service is hit-and-miss. Sometimes it seems like inexperienced people make the drinks and the drinks have a burned taste. It does seem that the quality is improving slightly over time. But the atmosphere is dynamite. Lots of great spaces.
I have loved this coffee shop for a long time BUT none of the employees are wearing masks while they work, nor does the shop have a Mask Required sign. It’s extremely disappointing that they are not addressing this pandemic in a serious way.
Nice coffee shop! Good place to hang out.
Good coffee thats a bit expensive. The wifi is barely functioning.
Amazing place to enjoy coffee. Very “physical distance” friendly during this pandemic
Adorable coffee shop. I wanted to love it, but Ive never received worse service at a coffee shop. When asked which drip coffee was the darker of the two roasts, the cashier said I dont know anything about coffee which is the absolute worst thing you could say as a coffee shop employee. The line was long and seemed like it may have been busier than they were used to, so i would definitely check it out again...hopefully employees will be more knowledgeable or resourceful!
Real homemade pastries. Very very good coffee. I go here several times a week. Very rarely impressed with the service. Slow, require reminders to give you everything you ordered, staff find chatting with coworkers more important than making to go coffee for customers who are obviously dressed to go to work and dont have time to wait 20 minutes.
Service is a but slow, but the overall atmosphere is fantastic! Its a beautifully designed, industrial space with plenty of seating. There are also individual study rooms that offer a bit more privacy.
Cool place to work or chill! (Im just passing through, but I will remember this place.) Not cramped, plenty of room to spread out and relax, whether you are by yourself or with others.
Best place in Harrisonburg to get you early morning coffee . I love the latte there its was may favorite one
Enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. They have pour overs for those that love quality black coffee. I loved the cute latte art on my pecan latte. They have a number of other flavors so you should definitely be able to find a latte or cappuccino to your liking.
Don’t bother coming here. The staff had my friend waiting on her drink, a simple to-go cup of coffee, for just about half an hour. And then proceeded to say that they forgot about the drink. There was no apology and no remorse about it. Along that line, my own drink was sitting out and never got called, which resulted in a cold cup of coffee. The portion sizes for the food and what you pay is ridiculous. I can easily spend $7 at Panera and get more food. This experience was awful and disrespectful. Don’t bother waiting your money and time here.
Great atmosphere, great service, and great coffee ☕
Coffee was great. Food was on point. Many college age single girls about. Tucked away in a lil back area for those of us who like to look beneath the surface.
Great drinks all around. This place is nice to come and relax and have a good beverage. My favorite coffee shop in Harrisonburg.
Generally, great. Ambience, the coffee, and the in-house baked goods are great. Staff is very pleasant. And the music (important to me) playing throughout, is generally setting a mood that you wont find in other Harrisonburg cafes. Relaxed, but vibrant, hip, and jazzy.
A great place to get work done.Bonus: the tea selection is REALLY good quality.
Love the chai. Wish they had coconut milk or hemp milk. Would also love to see gluten free pastries or gluten free options in general. Nice place to sip coffee, read a book or meet a friend. Not necessarily the best spot for working.
Fantastic collection of fresh roasted coffee by award winning roasters and great homemade baked goods tea and light heathy eats with stylish and relaxing decor.
Excellent coffee and breakfast! I especially love the lattes, theyre flavorful, but not too sweet. Any flavor of quiche is always a good choice.
Black Sheep Coffee is the best tasting coffee in downtown Harrisonburg - I come here a few times per week as I work right next door! There is a sign that says quality over quantity or something -- I like my coffee to be larger than 12 oz so I wish we could do bigger sizes; however I will still come and pay $4 for a 12 oz latte than go to DD and pay $3 for a 24 oz. -- on most days ;)
3 stars for delicious coffee - I especially enjoy the variety of options for pour overs.Unfortunately, the Wifi is basically non-existent. Every time Ive gone in to do work it hasnt worked, despite being connected. Its been months since I first had an issue and it still hasnt been fixed. The employees response is Yeah, other customers have been having issues as well. Try restarting your computer. Which is obviously unhelpful. Wish they would fix this long-term!
Nice spot downtown to hang out and work. Quiet. Food is ok. Same problems as always downtown...no parking. But if you get a spot....... visit
The have the basics in a unique setting and staff is nice. The Bannana nut bread is yummy! Try the lentil saugage soup when they have it in the fall/winter it is excellent!
The staff were super friendly and the drinks are good. We had chocolate croissant and hot chocolate with milk alternative. Only reason for 4 stars is there is not a lot of room to sit down and only one bathroom. There is a cool retro arcade machine as well!
Great aesthetic...but menu selection not so special
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. I got the macchiato and it was very good. I will definitely go back to try the pour over coffee. I love the fact that if you get a pour over, you can pick the bean. They had about 10 options to pick from.
Good coffee and we also had a meat quiche and coffee cake that were delicious.
Cool place to have a cup of tea or coffee. Plenty of places to charge electronic devices. Really good sandwiches!
Great coffee. Good prices. Perfect atmosphere. Highly recommend
Black Sheep is and has continued to be one of our favorite coffee shops downtown because of location and atmosphere. The coffee is consistently good and breakfast sandwiches are delicious! After the renovation, however, the quality of service has declined a bit. Wifi doesnt work for most websites on my computer, so I no longer go to Black Sheep to work. On many occasions (approximately 1 out of every 2 times I go or meet someone there) the staff dont call out drink or food orders or forget to make a drink. Coffee gets cold quickly because of the style of cup that is used (wide surface area), the creamer cup is usually empty, and most staff/baristas are not friendly or welcoming, but act a bit put off by customers.
Its a little overpriced for what it is, but I really love the atmosphere that it sat into. The building that its a part of seems like a really neat historic place, and I wish I would have had more time to actually check it out. Unfortunately, I was just dipping in and dipping out with my laptop before heading out of town. If coffee shop might be a little bit too bougie for a lot of people, but it has a lot of room, and if you go at the right time of day Im sure its perfectly fine to plug in and get some work done.
Great coffee and pastries. Awesome atmosphere.
It got an iced mocha. It was very good. The atmosphere is great! The staff helped me decide. This is an excellent low key place.
WiFi doesn’t work, straight up. Staff unhelpful. Other reviews mention this, wish I had read those prior to coming. Cool place in a cool building but this is a no go.
Nice atmosphere to study, work, or chat with a friend. I had a latte which was great, and a lemon poppy seed scone that was good but a little dry.
I go out of my way to stop by this coffee shop when driving down I-81. Definitely worth the detour for some good coffee.
