I went to the office today and when I walked in there were two women sitting with their masks off their noses along with a roomful others waiting who were politely, intelligently and respectfully masked. It was very busy. The small waiting room made it impossible to distance. The practice needs to change this and have ppl wait in their vehicles. People will die if they haven’t already. When I asked why they were unmasked, The older woman explained her daughter was having trouble breathing yet did not make excuses for why she was also uncovered. I turned to try to distance myself as —even though I’m vaccinated and have the booster— my antibodies are insignificant as my immune suppressants inhibit my immune system response. And a man with his cloth mask hanging from his nose was behind me so I had to walk within inches of all of them to leave. The receptionist did not address their unmasked and reckless behavior but instead asked me to wait in my car. I waited for 50 minutes but never heard from them and realized I no longer felt safe entering this medical practice. As of right now I’m looking for a different ENT and going to look to see how to report them to the Virginia dept of health.
I had my follow-up visit with Jimmy today. He is a great listener and teacher, highly knowledgeable about impaired hearing and treatment. What a joy it is to work with Jimmy who has introduced me to a world that is no longer muffled and incomprehensible.
I highly recommend Dr. Alexiou and his staff. I never wait long in the waiting room, the staff is helpful and well trained, and Dr. Alexiou knows his stuff. He answers all my questions with responses that I can understand, he has suggested how I can care for my ENT issues, and he has helped me consider long term options without pressure to do the most expensive procedure. Very straightforward. I like that.
The staff is kind and professional! Dr Alexiou is excellent. This was my first visit; the exam was thorough and he really listened to what I had to say regarding my symptoms… . I would highly recommend!
I wasnt sure what to expect when I first went in to see Dr. Alexiou at first, but I immediately found him personable and interested in helping me. Rather than just going based on my description of the problem, he asked for specifics... to tell him exactly what I meant and what I was experiencing. I found it both surprising and reassuring. I dont think Ive ever had a doctor ask for quite as detailed an explanation of the problem before. I appreciate Dr. Alexious time and attention and look forward to seeing him again.
Jimmy and Michael are responsive, thorough and caring. I was leery about moving to hearing aids, but they reduced that stress immediately and suggested a perfect set for my particular hearing issues. My questions and concerns are answered immediately and they consistently assure me that I am not being a nuisance!! I would recommend them to anyone in need of (or just considering) audiology services.
Dr. Alexiou and staff were professional, and extremely thorough. The wait was a bit long but otherwise very pleasant.
Caring professionals greet you with kindness from the time of entry until departure! Your needs are important and heard... I recommend them whole heartily.
Every thing went smoothly. Checking in was quick and easy. The waiting room was comfortable -- set up for proper social distancing. The wait was short. All the staff were cordial and professional ; masked and proper precautions were taken . The visit with Dr. Alexiou was good. My problem was resolve and follow up scheduled. Check out was smooth. All in all it was an excellent visit.
This is a double endorsement. The first is for Dr. Michael Alexiou MD/Alexiou Hearing and Sinus Center. The second will be for getting hearing aids.Dr. Alexiou has been my go-to doctor for minor surgeries and sinus issues for the past ten years. I trust his competence and skill. I also like him as a person as our personalities mesh and I enjoy our conversations. I recommend him highly. I wish he could be cloned for all the other specialties I seem to need as I continue to age.Recently I needed to see him and agreed to see the Audiologist prior to the visit. I have been avoiding doing this for a number of reasons over the years. It related to having a sudden neural hearing loss in my right ear in June 2009. By the time I actually saw a Doctor it was too late to save my hearing and I was told that a hearing aid would do little to help me hear. Nevertheless I bought a hearing aid and it was a waste of time and the then Audiologist did little to change my opinion. So I accommodated it as best I could, I sat in certain locations to strategically place my good ear toward conversations, I learned how to read lips, I turned up the volume and I found international movies had subtitles. Yet I missed much, actually quite a lot. My wife became my hearing aid, my friends got used to repeating themselves multiple times often spelling out slowly the words my nerve-shattered-ear had no chance of deciphering. Gradually I noticed my good ear wasnt so good anymore. I accused my wife of mumbling, I could not hear her at all when I drove the car as my so-called good ear was facing away from her. I would go to concerts and enjoy the music but could never hear that folksy banter from the artist between songs, really regretting when thousands of people would break out laughing and I was sitting there with absolutely no clue what was funny. In the past year it began to affect my mental health and that of anyone who had to deal with me. So back to the Audiologist and his report, I had lost a lot more of the hearing in the good ear than I realized, but the good news was I actually had some hearing left in my bad ear. I didnt do anything right away and about 6 months later I was again with Dr. Alexiou and used the opportunity to ask questions and he said with confidence that I could definitely be helped. (During this six months I was never pressured to do anything.) So I saw the Audiologist again and learned that the technology has improved so much in the past ten years that my first hearing aid was literally a dinosaur compared to today. He spent over two hours with me. He answered all my questions and at the end of the appointment I walked out with a pair of new ReSound hearing aids on my ears. By the time I got home I literally was so emotionally uplifted I stood in front of my wife with tears in my eyes and I could not even talk, scaring the bejeebers out of her. Eventually I choked out that I could hear again! That night we sat out on the front porch and I heard the neighbors wind chimes for the first time as I never realized they even had them. I turned down the volume. I stopped shouting. I felt better! more relaxed and as a bonus, the tinnitus that lived with me since my hearing loss in 2009 seemed to be less noticeable. That night I texted my son and told him I got hearing aids. He asked me: why now after all these years. I said: I got tired of saying What? to Mom a couple of hundred times a day. I heard that the technology was light years better. And simply, I just wanted to hear again.Thats it in a nutshell. I can hear again!PS And they are virtually invisible!
Best place. Entire staff makes you feel comfortable. Excellent measures taken to keep safe from COVID. Everyone has a good sense of humor which is important to me. I’ve been here a couple of times and each time was a good experience. The doctor does perfect work!
My experience with Dr. Alexiou and his nurses was top notch from the time I walked in the door till I left. I would highly recommend them!
My positive experience began before I even entered their office. In the USPS mail, I received all the preregistration forms needed as well as what to bring to my appointment. It even included directions.Once I arrived at the office I was greeted pleasantly.Having the opportunity to fill our forms and have documents needed ahead of time was so efficient.I was called back to my appointment very soon after I arrived. The nurse was efficient and courteous (rare combination). After she got all the preliminary information and left, Dr Michael Alexiou soon entered. He was very knowledgeable, thorough and genuinely concerned that I understood and was comfortable with his diagnosis.I am grateful to and for Dr Alexiou and team.
Dr. Alexiou surgically removed a cyst behind my 12 year old sons ear. We felt safe and well informed every step of the way and his team made us feel like family.
They know what they are doing!!
The day I saw Jimmy Stewart, the audiologist at Dr. ALEXIOU’s office he adjusted my hearing aids to the point that they have never performed better. I can’t say exactly what he did, but I have never heard as well as I do now. Thank you for your services.
First time there. Good experience and friendly staff. So glad I went there. And now I can hear better! Thanks
I always feel better after seeing Dr Alexiou, regardless of the purpose of the visit. He is thorough, listens carefully, gives useful information easily understood and explains basis for his conclusions and diagnosis. The office is immaculate, runs smoothly, and staff is well informed and good humored. Nothing left to sayexcept-wish there were more practices like this!
The waiting room was clean and the staff were attentive, the wait was minimal and the doctor was compassionate. The staff and doctor took their time explaining the complications of my diagnosis and I felt like they truly cared for my well being. This practice has 2 amazing doctors and I have seen both Jeri and Michael now and have been extremely impressed. I wont see another Dermatologist or ENT, they are top notch! Thanks for taking care of me so well.
Dr. Michael Alexio and his staff have always been very knowledgeable, courteous and helpful. They definitely put the patient’s needs first.
Most impressed with my first visit! I went in so nervous about the outcome I could barely get my insurance cards out of my wallet. Dr. Alexiou put me instantly at ease. My upcoming procedure was fully explained as was the expected outcome. Highly recommended!
Dr. Alexiou and his staff have been excellent in every interaction Ive had with them. He is everything that a physician or surgeon is supposed to be. He listens, makes prompt and correct diagnosis, then offers his best advice for treatment options, allowing enough time to understand and answer questions. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Enjoyable friendly kind and efficient. Couldn’t ask for more.
Very through explanation of those concerns during my visit. Gave me confidence with the planned surgery. Looking forward to being able to breathe better and enjoy a much improved quality of life.
I have had the same ENT in Charlottesville for 10 years and suddenly found myself needing to find a new one. The first one I went to in Harrisonburg was not a good experience so I continued to shop. The second was Dr Alexiou and it was a wonderfull experience. He treated me like a person and not a number. He quizzed me on current medications, past surgeries and fixed the problem I was having. I have found my new ENT!
Professional staff greets you at front desk. Same with Dr. Alexiou...very professional and explained what was wrong and different ways to treat. Very gentle with endoscope exam in office.
Very thorough, courteous, & professional
Excellent care. Kind, empathetic, focused on patient needs.
While the doctor was running late (that happens and I understand), the whole office staff kept us up to date, offered to rebook appointments, and were very apologetic. I appreciate their and Dr. Alexious concern. This experience made me like the practice even more than I did.
I have been a patient of Dr. Alexious for several years and for various needs. He, and his staff have always treated me with respect and complete attention. I trust him to meet my needs. And, Dr. Pinnow. has been a great help guiding my effort to keep what hearing I have left at optimum levels.
I recently had an appointment with Dr. Pinnow. I would rate the appointment as excellent in every way. I recommend her to anyone with hearing problems.
Always prompt and professional treatment from the doctor and staff.
Very professional, efficient, respectful and caring. I couldn’t have asked for more.
I had a great visit but did not get to actually see the doctor. His PA was thorough and had great bedside manners.
Dr.Alexiou is ABSOLUTELY one of the most professional, genuine and caring Doctors I have EVER come across in my life! I highly, HIGHLY recommend him!
July 15, 2014 Dr. Alexiou performed a balloon endoscopic sinus procedure for me. This was done in office and was not painful. The next day I resumed regular activities and had little discomfort. Before this procedure for many years I had almost constant sinus pressure, frequent infections, and was on several medications. Since the procedure I have had no infections, have stopped most medications and have had no colds through this winter. If Dr. Alexiou should recommend this procedure I would strongly recommend that you have it. He and all the staff are professional, friendly and caring.
They provide great service and have one of the most professional staff in the area. Highly recommend both practices.
Outstanding doctor who focuses on the patient by listening, and then takes action to address the problem. Have seen other ENTs and Dr A is the best by far. Strongly recommend him to others!
Great experience. Courteous staff. Felt well taken care of.
As always my experience was very pleasant and all staff extremely professional but friendly.
Dr. Pinnow has helped me to get back as much of my hearing as possible thru the help of hearing aids and what I can expect out of them.I believe Dr. Pinnow is a true professional and her work is heart felt.
I would give them 5 🌟 its just that I had to wait for the nurse for 40 minutes when the doctor wasnt in. Other than that, its was a good visit
This place has great service highly recommended the staff are very nice...
After over a decade of chronic sinus infections I finally visited this specialist. This guy was able to permanently fix it. Turned out I had a deviated septum and one outpatient surgery later and I havent had a single sinus infection sense. If you need surgery make sure to ask about using the surgical center its saved me thousands of dollars instead of having the procedure done at the hospital.
I appreciate the friendly professionalism from Dr. Alexiou and his staff.
I saw Dr. Pinnow for a hearing evaluation for a new hearing aid. I have been seeing audiologists for over 10 years and she is the best yet!
My son saw Dr. Pinnow for a hearing screening. She noticed some changes from our last visit and took extra time to double check her work. Dr. Pinnow went above and beyond to make my very nervous son feel comfortable and safe. I can not express how much I value her gentle bedside manner. She is extremely knowledgable and took additional time to explain the results.
I saw the audiologist here, Dr. Pinnow. I came to Dr. Pinnow with a new hearing aid that needed adjustment. I have single sided hearing loss, and need direction sense in different frequencies and volumes. This is difficult to accomplish. Dr. Pinnow listened carefully to my needs, explained in plain English the limitations of the hearing aid, and was smart and creative in fine tuning my hearing aid adjustments. She gave generously of her time and expertise to make my hearing aid the best that it can be.
Dr. Alexiou performed my sinus surgery in May 2011 and I cannot be more pleased with the outcome. Hearing many stories of the sagas of sinus surgeries, I am happy to say that I had no issues with my surgery and would recommend Dr. Alexiou should someone need sinus surgery. Having had some minor issues un-related after surgery, Dr. Alexiou was extremely attentive as well as his staff to resolve my upper respiratory problems. A recent issue that my family doctor advised I see an ENT; Dr. Alexious staff got me in immediately with no issues. Truly an amazing doctor and staff who cares about his patients above and beyond the normal. I am so thankful that I found this practice many years ago!
Dr. Alexiou has been great with our son. Our son has chronic ear issues and has seen multiple doctors in the past. We were lucky enough to have Dr. Alexiou see us on an emergency visit last summer even though our son was not his patient yet. Our son was bleeding from his tubes and his doctor at UVA could not fit him in for several weeks despite the severity of the situation. We saw Dr. Alexiou the same day that we called. He was very competent and went above and beyond in that initial visit. He actually gave more insight into my sons ears than we had ever received in 9 years of seeing other doctors. We will continue to use him as our ENT. We also visited Dr. Pinnow to have my sons hearing tested. She was amazing. She gave us so much more information than UVA. We were able to take her results and a letter of explanation from her to our sons school to help his teachers understand his hearing limitations. This office is a great resource with a terrific team.
Polite, Professional care given. Thank you!
