I wish I had thought to purchase from CarMax much sooner! I worked with Diane over the phone to have my 2015 Fiat transferred to my local store. She was also able to get my approval completed so I did not have to wait around at the store to have this part taken care of during my appointment. She was amazing and was so personable! Once I arrived at the Hickory, NC store my experience was just as good. It was quick and efficient from start to finish. Jack was my sales person and he did a fantastic job of explaining everything to me. Will purchase from CarMax again in the future!

Great car buying experience. Did everything online so that I could just test drive and go. They were busy that day and it took awhile before I could get through the final paperwork process. If they could improve their process for getting people through the final phase of buying, this would be a better experience for others. The people in the back that process the paperwork seem to move without urgency and really slow things down. But on a good note, my CarMax representative was amazing. He had me done in 45 mins, the people that put your paperwork together is what slowed things down.

I had great conversations with people on the phone. Everyone was professional and helpful. My first store experience was less than anything perfect. Once I got my car i didnt like it. I took it back to another store and got another car i love. That was the best car buying experience I have had.

I will not buy a used car from anyone else. I have dealt with them several times in the past and they have always been helpful and cooperative. They are very careful about the cars they buy and sell and are very honest about the history and condition of their cars.

Since this was my first experience with CarMax I was not sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised on how smoothly the selling and buying went. I was offered a very fair price for my car and Angelo explained to me how to check out the cars CarMax had available. After locating a car at a different location it was promptly transferred to the local CarMax for me to drive. I ended up purchasing the car. Overall I would have to rate my experience as excellent.

At first I was pleased the only issue was there was no manual for the car but after driving the car for a few days I can hear a the brakes making a grinding sound. As it turns out this cars must have been sitting for some time but the brakes and rotors a covered in rust and now I am looking at a 800.00 bill to correct the issue. and to add insult to injury the plate that CARMAXsent me I had to go to the Post Office as I had to pay 1.40 as the postage was insufficient.I cannot say I would recommend CARMAX to anyone. Tried to sell us water damaged car,moisture does not get under the odometer and tachometer for no reason. Condensation is trying to escape, glass gets fogged up, electrical problems are just on their way. Staff was nice and polite,they did their job well

We made an appointment and the buyer did a quick inspection. They sent us home with a check for the full amount - no last minute price changes. It was quick and easy!

I purchased on line...did Not visit dealership. Experience at Dealership for delivery was great. Trying to get someone to talk to at the dealership, and on line (chat or personally) was VERY frustrating. When I was able to make personal contact, I usually got reliable responses.

From the moment of applying for financing on the website all the way to signing the papers for our car, every person we encountered was excellent. The process was quick and easy.

They sold me a $62,000 Porsche Cayman that they brought in from another location that had two broken motors (the drivers side mirror and the radiator fan) and damaged headlight covers. One of the broken motors had apparently been giving off an error message since 2018 but they never caught it. Never mentioned any of this. Very disappointed overall.

BUYER BEWARE - all marketing. Bought a car at the beginning of July. They insisted they inspect all vehicles and will fix anything you find. Car had issues at time of purchase they said they would address all of them.They Had the car for a few weeks.Still No repairs. Can’t get a person to get on the phone and be accountable. Horrible experience.

Large trucks always in drive and side road blocking road traffic. Most drivers contracted for them are kind but wish the staff would be more cooperative with the public.

Sell privately if you can you will get a better deal or try carvana if selling. The sale terms with a 24 hour cancel or 30 day return, you really can’t go wrong. Very happy customer.

We put car on hold and did transfer. I was told the car could not be showed until we had our appointment. We even got verification the car was in transit. Hickory Carmax decided to let someone see the car and buy it. not only did they go against there policy but did not have the respect to call the customer and tell us they were screwing us.They called where car was too be transferred and had them make up for their mistake. I would not trust Hickory carmax On anything they say. Dishonest

Sold me a 2018 kia it had extensive damage to drivers side they knew it had it repaired very cheaply before it showed up on carfax took it to kia dealership they told me about the extensive body work that had been done went to carmax they gave me runaround but did fix headlight again and mirror but paint job was the worse now the paint is coming off driver and passenger door told them again but no response. How am I suppose to sell it with all that damage? Sure didnt get any discount paint is chipping off every time I run through car wash so beware this is the hickory carmax.10/28/2021 paint on drivers side where it had been wrecked and didnt tell me is getting worse and coming off and they wont return my calls no spare tire either wont call me back carmax sucks

Great experience. From online shopping, to doing everything cos the phone and internet. To driving to the NC store (because I didn’t want to wait for it to be shipped). The NC store was phenomenal and I had no issues. They were waiting on me when I arrived and had my documents ready. Cleaned the car and gave me a full tank of gas before I left. Sent me the documents via the mail and included everything I needed for the clerks office. Having 30 days is awesome to exchange if needed. I will not be returning my car but this is the best dealership experience I’ve ever had!

I have bought 4 cars from Carmax and they have been great car and the staff is great to make sure you are as happy as you can be when you buy your car. They also stand behind their car and will fix it to make it right. If I buy a car get the extended warranty to make sure it is covered for any and all breakdowns that may happen. But with my experience with CarMax I would recommend them to everyone to buy a car.

This is probably the easiest car buying experience I have had. Theres no worrying about haggling or playing the let me talk to my manager game. The price online is fair so you dont even have to worry about that. I traded in a car and by uploading pics the night before (which the app walks you through), I saved myself 45 minutes to an hour at the dealership the next day. I will probably stick to Carmax forever now. Only upsold on the warranty, which I expected and agreed to given the mileage I put on my cars. Thank you for a super pleasant experience!

Bought a 2019 honda civic 2 weeks ago and it broke down. I had to get it towed to honda so they could fix it but somehow they couldnt figure out what was wrong with it. Overall experience was just terrible.

For the past 10 years, I’ve never had a problem with Carmax and I would always recommend them to my friends and family. I can’t say the same now. From the beginning to the end of the car buying process was absolutely horrible. I have reached out to them about the different situations and it’s hard to get someone to return a call, text, or email. I have spoken to customer service, management, and the salesmen. They all give me the runaround and nobody tries to solve the issues.There is way too much to write about when it comes to my bad experience, but I will never deal with Carmax again. I don’t know how they can ever redeem themselves.

Found the car online, called and set up an appointment, and bought the car.. it was so easy, and everyone was very nice!

They offered me $6,000 for a 2015 Kia Sedona minivan that has a Reconstructed title with 27,000 miles, while they were selling a van just like mine with more mile and a salvage title for $16,000. Best to sell your cars privately .

The whole process was painless and easy. Theon was patient and answered all my questions. Once I decided on which car I was going to buy, everything went pretty quickly from there. I never felt confused or misguided or pressured to purchase anything I didnt want or need.

I completely understand that Carmax is a business and they are in business to make a profit. What I did not like about my experience was the offer made for my truck when I was looking to trade vehicles. There was no negotiation. The offer was ridiculously low. I thanked the gentleman helping me and left. I drove two miles down the street and was offered $3500.00 more for my truck. I accepted the offer and purchased the exact same make and model of vehicle that I was looking at on the Carmax lot. I also didnt like that the salesman said that it would be 7 to 10 days for the vehicle that I was interested in to be delivered to the Hickory, NC store from a store in Virginia! This entire experience can be classified as a bad customer experience!

I requested a car delivered then went to check it out. I ended up buying it, which was super painless. I liked that I could just take the car home and had 7 days to return it if I wasnt happy with it. The whole process took a little more than an hour, and that included them buying my old car from me. Its always scary buying a car you have no idea about the history of or how much has been repaired or if it just sat in a garage well protected...it is hit and miss in my opinion/experience, so I was happy to have the chance to take my car to get a second opinion and feel comfortable with my purchase, knowing if it didnt pan out I could bring it back and pick out another one. That was cool.

Took forever to get to see/test drive my car, the man working there said he had been working there for eight years and didnt know what he was doing at all and I was trying to explain to him what was going on. They gave me the car with 10% oil life on it worn down tires and a tiny crack in the windshield. Didnt give clear instructions at all. Overall it was not the experience I was looking for in buying my first car.

Quite impressive. First time being there and the personnel were attentive, knowledgeable. The system is high tech and we left purchasing and trading a car. Win, win.

When we walked into the showroom was asked if we needed help...said were just looking. When walking back thru to leave no one asked if we found what we were looking for, just watched us leave, so we didnt tell them what we were looking for! Guess they didnt need our business.

Was told to check out my local Carmax to sell my car. (A friend sold a crashed up car to a Carmax in PA for $1000) Needless to say my local Carmax, in Hickory, NC, is not a place I would recommend. The kid listened to my car for 2 min and then wrote down Runs Improperly. I was offered the same amount as a wrecked vehicle. Even though my car is 16 years old, it is in excellent shape and runs beautifully.This place is not worth one star let alone a recommendation!

Car Max did not charge the correct amount of Sales Tax. It cost me $290 when I went to Title and Register the car.

My purchase was quick and easy. I filled out the paperwork online and did some of it over the phone. We had picked out our car online and with no haggle pricing it was just a matter of doing the paperwork and it was ours. We drove in and picked it up within a few minutes of finishing the paperwork. Once there, we signed some papers and were on our way in our new vehicle. It was a pain free experience.

Not how to earn business. Need to make sure potential customers come back when they’re ready to spend their money on your product.

Refuses to do business with people who are exempt from wearing a mask. They were unwilling to take my money from outside when I went to sell my car. Masks should be an option not forced upon society. As a business owner myself in the car insurance industry they will never have my business again and I will be discouraging all of my customers who are shopping for a new car from doing business there or with any Carmax from here going forward.

I was very pleased with the overall experience of both trading in and buying my new car. My next car will also be through CarMax. The entire experience was easy and no pressure. I had browsed cars online before my visit and test drove and viewed my selections while they were evaluating my trade. They also tansferred my vanity plate to the new car. I saved thousands over a new car.

I traded my Camry in to get a Ford Edge. Within a week, I was called in because they messed up the paperwork. After being told it would be a quick and easy fix, I sit in the office for 3.5 hours. Here it has been almost a month, and my previous finance company is still calling me saying that my Camry has t been paid off. Absolute worst decision of my life was trusting the people at Hickory, NC CarMax. I wouldn’t refer my dog to this store! And now, I can’t get anyone to return my phone calls so they can fix the problem with my payoff! If I could give negative stars I would.
