We ordered a cake for my 25th birthday at the last minute and it is the most beautiful birthday cake I’ve ever had. It was absolutely stunning and exactly what I asked for. I wanted a drip cake with rose gold and macaroons and they did a fantastic job, I got so many compliments on it. Not only was it beautiful on the outside, the cake inside was delicious and fluffy. Will definitely be ordering from them again in the future.

I had a pleasant experience with this shop for the first time. Their cake prices were reasonable and a good size. They had a good variety of flavors to choose from as well. The person took my order over the phone and the process was easy. I ordered a Chocolate Truffle cake for a birthday party and the cake came out delicious! It was not too sweet and very moist. All my friends were raving about the cake as well.

Please stop serving your customers old pastries, as a pastry chef I find it insulting to do this to those who choose to be customers and support your business. In addition, the quality of the cakes and cupcakes was deceitful to say the least. I could tell by the moisture content and lack of presentation that these cakes had been stored for longer than their viable days. This risks a consumer getting sick and coming down with food poisoning. Furthermore the taste of the foodstuff is distressing and a sign of its hyper-assumed expiration date.

I door dashed from this place on a whim looking for a last min birthday cake. There was a mix up with the order which they promptly corrected and sent the right order. And holy cow I cant tell you enough how amazing the hummingbird cake was. Well definitely order from there again.

February 25th 2021- Extremely disappointed of the cake we received. We typically use this bakery to make all of our cakes for our daughters birthday parties, anniversaries, business celebrations, etc., and most of our cakes are advertised on here Goggle; however, my husband and I called to have a birthday cake made for our youngest daughter who turns four today, and we initially spoke to Mikayla. She recommended we email them a picture of our cake which we did by the timeframe, before the end of the day, so that the order would be placed and the cake would be ready by Saturday. Later that evening, I received a call from Marisol, and as we were conversing, she asked if she could put me on hold so she could switch phones. Marisol kept me on hold for over 15 minutes and she never came back to the phone. We contacted them first thing this morning and were disappointed that they would not make my daughters cake for her birthday party this weekend. The reason for my complaint is due to their lack of accountability and professionalism. If it were because of our error, then we would be okay, but because it was due to their mistake and, again, lack of acknowledgment and accountability, we choose to take our business elsewhere. The cakes are mediocre and are slightly better than a grocery store like Kroger’s or HEB, so its not like we will miss any homemade baking. We can take our business back to them. Its a shame that companies don’t know how to keep LOYAL customers.I am editing my review since the issue was resolved, and Marisol was able to call us back and take accountability and ownership of the simple mistake. This is all that we asked for, and the cake turned out beautifully. (It went from a one-star to a 3 star only because the issue still occurred)

Ordered a cake 2 days ahead... but when I got there, no cake. Then they pulled some different cake out of their refrigerator and said they found it in the back. But when I got home I realized its not the cake we ordered, so theyre liars too!Terrible cake, no moistness, just day old dry. My guests were disappointed and I was very disappointed! I went into TAke the Cake today and was basically ignored. I drove all the way from the Northside to buy a cake there for my son’s birthday. I asked if they had samples so that I could decide on a cake and was told they didn’t but I could buy slices to sample. Then I was left to decide with no help and the girl never returned. Small companies should know the importance of exceptional customer service. It why a customer decides to buy from you instead of a large chain. These girls seemed to be amateurs.

I love this place, this is the second birthday cake I’ve ordered here and they get it right every time! I’ve had nothing but great experiences here. I will continue to come and purchase my cakes here.

The cake is fine, usually. Ive had them mess up a few orders that were pretty simple. They also require you to wear masks, which I dont mind, but they dont provide any to you even though the mandate doesnt require people to wear them. So I had to drive home and drive back just for some cupcake. Personally I think if youre going to force me to wear a mask when the state doesnt require me to then you should provide them for your customers. Talk about annoying. Overall theyre okay I guess.

I just want to, first, publicly thank this crew for their patience. My son and daughter-in-law were having a baby shower end of February. Early in the month, we exchanged plenty of emails because I was clueless lol. When we finally got things squared away, closer to the event, we had the unprecedented winter storm, and the kids pipes burst flooding their new home. Perfect. So they cancelled the shower, and I cancelled the cake. They were so very understanding and we made the date following the next two weeks.The baby was due first week of April, so we had time. During the winter cleanup, she had the baby just over a month early. The little nugget stayed in the NICU over the next couple of weeks. And again, I had to cancel the cake, and I certainly had no idea when wed need it. They kept all my information in bakers purgatory while life unfolded. Last Wednesday, I get a phone call that they were doing the shower on Saturday and let the chips fall where they may. I call the bakery and yes! Awesome! They can do it, no problem, Ill pick it up on Saturday.Small gathering. Small cake. But holy cow, I wish I recorded the faces as cake was shoved down throats. It was truly heaven. The moistest red velvet Id ever eaten with cream cheese icing for the layering and buttercream all around. My daughter-in-laws favorite is red velvet, and this particular version is her favorite to date. Bravo Take the Cake. You certainly took it to new heights!

Delicious Cakes/Pretty & Well MadeThey were helpful in coming up with a nice decoration to fit the birthday boys personality and talents. The lead time to have cake ready was reasonable. All of my guests enjoyed the deep, rich chocolate cake and the vanilla, strawberry filled cake. Butter cream frosting was also very rich and delicious. This is the first time Ive used them and I see why they have been around for many, many years! I highly recommend them!

Very Disappointed. I ordered a simple cake online onWednesday, to be ready on Saturday (graduation party ) . The same day, I received a voicemail from Marisol confirming my order, and that I needed to call her back to pay for the cake inadvance. I called Take the Cake, asked for Marisol, was put on hold for 11 minutes. I called again and got the answering machine - and left my credit card information. I called today to make sure everything is set to go. It is not - my order was not processed, and now it is too late because they are not taking any orders. (They still have my online order inThe system ). So I’m scrambling. Wanted to share my experience. I rarely ever write a review.

I am sorely disappointed in Take the Cake and I have been buying cakes from them for over 20 years. I started buying cakes from them when they were located on Hwy 6 at Beechnut. I ordered a cake for my sons 18th birthday. I could have gone for something cheaper but in light of being limited during this pandemic. I at least wanted a great cake. Well, they didnt put his name on it and the cake was horrible. I paid $63 for a cake that I couldnt even get rid of at my job. You can take anything to work and people will eat it but not this cake! I sent them an email and received an immediate response from a very pleasant lady. She told me the manager would call but that didnt happen. Well, this is my last take the cake experience.

Worst costumer service I gone a few times to get cupcakes and been greeted once I enter but not today I been trying to place an order since last week I called over the phone young lady Rochelle I believe told me some information but was undecided. Today I decided to stop by and get me and husband cupcakes and seriously never again, young lady didn’t even know prices or cake flavors. Maybe I was asking too many questions but I don’t work at this bakery so am asking so I can decide what to get for the cake and she was giving me attitude she even rolled her eyes at me thinking i was not looking. So I decided to just leave and never come back. I worked as a server while in collage but never gave attitude to any costumers. But this young lady today clearly needs some training or just a new job period very disappointed

The cheesecake was nasty and dry! It tasted old. After 2 bites I just threw it away. I gave 2 stars bc they typically do a good job on the cakes I’ve ordered, although the filling was hard and tasted old.

The cake that was made for me was of low quality and it was stale... as was made clear from the reactions of our guests. The cakes presentation was also extremly lacking - we wanted a Mickey Mouse cake which we got... with stickers of Mikey Mouse. Not worth any amount of money, it is best to try another shop!

Absolutely love Take the cake!! I stumbled upon this place just out of pure luck a few years ago. Their cakes are so breathtakingly beautiful. They put TLC into each cake they make, which to me is a secret ingredient. Their prices are very reasonable (in comparison to the local competitors) everyone I know who has their cake is amazed. I even have coworkers that are hooked!

Bought a two layer German Chocolate sheet cake. It was so good, great depth to the chocolate and the coconut layer in the middle was perfection. I will definitely go back for the next occasion.

I usually dont write reviews but my cake was absolutely gorgeous. Give them an image and they will do even better, plus the staff was responsive despite my short(er) notice. Icing options are limited but worth it.

Unfortunately this will be my last time getting my cakes from here. New owners and service has gone down along with the cleanliness of the bakery. Cakes are left out on the counter, crumbs all over the displays, flys flying around the store and display, signs unorganized that display which desserts are which. I had to tell the girl to wash her hands before she wrote on my cake. And all this after being told to wait while there was nobody there but she seemed to have been finishing up a conversation with workers in the back. No more friendly greetings, no more instructions on proper handling of the cake before serving, no thank you for your business. This place has gone down hill.

The prior owners had great service and great food, then they sold to new owners, after that, the méringue on the lemon méringue is made with old eggs, you can clearly tell because they literally have an old rotten egg smell, I was very disappointed the last time I went, which has to be at least several months back before COVID-19 lock down.More recently I had some deserts delivered from there, and the apple turn overs were very dry, the cupcakes were also dry and stale, it was like I had ordered week old deserts. I recommend holding off until they change ownership again.

I first tasted Take The Cake at Pho Bin in The Heights... AMAZING! You haven’t lived until you’ve had their Blackout Chocolate Cake.And then, I tasted their strawberry-filled strawberry cake. Holy moly!So, when it came time to celebrate, I ordered a three-tier strawberry cake. It was a huge hit. What a cake!Then, a couple months later, I ordered their lemon cream cake. Good Lord! This is the best bakery in town!!!

Bought 6 cupcakes for 18 bucks (todays special) got 2 lemon, 2 strawberry and 2 salted caramel chocolate. I ate one lemon cupcake and omg. Had a cream cheese whipped frosting with a sugar topping. So yummy! So pleased...

They really are the best bakery in the area. The chocolate overload cupcake is so rich, decadent and chocolatey and I like thats its a ganache rather than buttercream icing. We also ordered my sons bday a red velvet cake and it was beyond moist with an amazing cream cheese frosting. Yum!

This place is awesome. I sent them a picture of the cake I wanted and they recreated it perfectly. They were also cheaper than many other bakeries in Houston that I got quotes from. Definitely recommend for custom cakes!

We have purchased their cakes from restaurants and love them so when I found out this was the bakery that makes them we went directly to Take the Cake. We purchased cupcakes and a cake. We were so surprised at how dry the cakes were. I mean ridiculously dry. When we called to complain we were told they were fresh. Totally not true. Very disappointing.

We purchase cakes here every month. For the last several months the sponge has been so dry. Im not sure whats changed but they are so dry they are inedible. I have tried telling them. They did a lovely job on my Wedding Cake in April. The Hummingbird Cake was awesome. Not sure what is going on but I hope it changes.

By far my favorite ice cream shop. The Thai tea flavor is on point. One scoop on a sugar cone is perfect for me. Other flavors that are amazing: Green tea and the lavender

I dont know if they switched owners. The cake here use to be wonderful. We just ordered their coconut cake, which use to be moist and delicious. We drove an hour just for this cake. AND IT IS THE MOST AWFUL THING I HAVE EVER PURCHASED. Iam so upset. It is dense and dry. The cake feels like it is weeks old. They charge us a slight premium on it being the coconut cake as well.

I ordered 2 cakes for my sons birthday, a big one and a smash cake. The big one I order was a 12 round white cake with butter cream icing and it was amazing!! It says It feeds 30-40 and it defiantly did ! We had plenty left over to give out if people wanted to take some home. Both cakes were super moist and looked awesome! I spent about $100 on the two cakes which seems like a lot but I was completely satisfied with my order!! I will for sure be using take the cake in the future!! Everyone loved the cake!

This bakery has the highest reviews and ratings from multiple family and friends. As such, I ordered a two-tiered Little Mermaid cake for my daughter’s 5th birthday party with high expectations. UNFORTUNATELY, they gave my cake to another individual who apparently also ordered a Little Mermaid cake on the same day!!?? The other cake was a completely different design with a one-tiered vanilla cake while I ordered a two-tiered chocolate and hummingbird cake!!! How could they have accidentally confused these cakes?! How could the other individual take a two-tiered cake knowing that she only paid for one-tier?!! I am flabbergasted by this episode and find it unbelievable that this occurred. You provide your name when you pickup anything therefore how could they have confused my name with someone else? FORTUNATELY, they refunded the entire amount, proceeded to give me the other individuals cake (since I needed something to match the mermaid theme regardless of how hideous the design) and provided a chocolate cake since this is my daughter’s fav flavor. This episode also caused a 1.5 hour delay to setup for the actual party itself and not to be dramatic, but RUINED the day.

Amazing! I had a under the sea themed party, and the one thing I wanted to stand out was the cake. And it sure did. Everyone was so amazed by the beauty of it. To make it better the cake tasted delicious. It was so moist. Definitely coming here for any other upcoming parties.

We asked Empire where they got their cakes and the told us Take the Cake! Weve ordered a cake for every event our family needs from baby showers to birthdays! This place will not let you down! Best cake, hands down. The prices are more than reasonable and you get an abundant amoun of cake! Delicious.

I had my sons 11th birthday cake made by Take the cake and it was a huge hit! Very reasonably priced and the employees are very friendly and helped me figure out how to decorate the cake. Very disappointing that not only could they not make a gluten free cake but the girl very snobbly said if I wanted gluten free all I could get was creme brule. Not even a suggestion of who could help.

Been coming here for years. The Italian cream cake, hummingbird and German chocolate are my favorites. You have to make sure cake comes up to room temperature so texture is right. Dont eat cold. (We buy a lot of the ready cakes from cooler). Coconut cream pie is awesome too.

New Owners have TakeN The Cake of this business. Prices have gone up, customer service has gone down. Cake taste the same, but just wait until owners need to make more $$ due to bad cash flow. That is when they will start using lower quality ingredients. Then, that will be the end of this company.

I would like to give zero stars. However, the icing on the cake is still delicious. Unfortunately, the new owners have ruined a Houston treasure! I drove to the store to buy my son his and my favorite cake in the world, The Chocolate Truffle for his 16th Birthday. Its been a tradition in our family along with The Pineapple Carrot Cake, my close number 2, for over 20 years. Only to have it ruined by a DRY CAKEish substance covered in that amazing chocolate icing. I threw my piece in the Garbage! What happened to the moist deliciousness the original owner baked into her cakes? This cake was horrible. I wondered why none of his friends commented on the cake. Every person we shared the cake with in the past, would say OMG, this cake is amazing. NOT ANY MORE!!! I WILL NEVER RETURN.

Im so happy to have found a great cake bakery, on my first experience it was on a Sunday on my brothers birthday and this was the only place open got the chocolate ganache cake and it was delicious.On my second experience, this pass friday 10/11/19 I picked up my sister in law baby shower cake and it was just gorgeous, it tasted amazing, everyone talked about the cake in the party and only had good things to say about it, I grabbed the flowers of my choice and the ribbon, I brought it with me and asked for a red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream frosting, with a spiral markings and bucket in the middle and in the bottom side with the ribbon at the bottom, it came out just absolutely gorgeous and exactly how I described it. Thank you for our delicious cakes!

I love this bakery. I am not a family member, I moved away from Houston and wish I could find a bakery like this on East coast. I visited their old location and ordered 4 cakes from Take the Cake for baby and wedding showers. I was just there today Monday 6/3. I got 2 cupcakes and the cookie sandwich. The cupcakes are SOOO dry its just sad. Just dry as a boot. No way they were made today or even yesterday or even Friday. I felt devalued and ignored coming to this shop so much in May i walked OUT.. I was next as the 2 workers helped one customer. I asked the 1st worked did she have power rangers cakes she replied I believe so and handed me the photo book. I browsed for 5-10minutes as she sent the first customer on his way she stepped to the back. Next, a white lady and her daughter arrived, were greeted, brought to the counter, were shown cake sizes with costs, and collaborated with an order. Then the worker looks up at me and asks am i done with that book can we see it? I said you SURE can and left. Im a professional although I may be black and 29years old my Money is GREEN. Went to Krogers after. Dont let it happen again.

The cakes are insanely delicious. My favorites are carrot pineapple and the Italian cream cakes. They have a decent turnaround for most cakes. Prices are very reasonable for what you get.

We have been using this company to supply our monthly birthday cakes for our office in Cypress, and I just have to say that the quality of these cakes is amazing. I am now 100% hooked on italian creme cakes and hummingbird cake. I would definitely recommend them!
