My wife and I were feeling a bit adventurous today, hence we wanted to try something new. We found this place on yelp and we went there. We came by and ordered Magic Masala Dosa, Fiery Idlis, Magic Idlis. They were not disappointing, since they were nicely presented and full of flavor!! We will definitely come back. Ps: their chai tea and coffee are tasty too!
Dosa aka crepes are flavorful. Small kick of heat which I loved. Filling sauces were fantastic. Coffee was tasty, more flavor than traditional home pot. Vegan options available and tastey. Ask the rep for the pupulat options and you cant go wrong.
Everything’s good, except for idlis for the flying “idlis”.Had idlis here 2-3 times.Always not satisfied with idlis. Mostly got re-heated/re-steamed idli. Was able to feel they weren’t fresh.Magic bullet idli( paniyaram/gunta pongalalu) are also not that good, felt the batter is a bit over fermented or had a little sour taste(not the good sour). The chutney was decent(it’s a peanut chutney they give), was also given a spicy red chutney(probly tomato) on last visit and thats perfect. One thing, at least the one on Rusk st, tries to give good/fresh idli.
A must visit if you love South Indian food or are keen on trying south Indian food. The off menu items like upma and poori reminds me more of the taste of home something I would any day recommend for people to try. My favorite though is the Magic Masala Dosa. The people there are very friendly and always there to answer any questions that you may have. So if you are in town or live here in Houston, I would request you to visit the place as I am sure that you will love it.
I have been eating idlis my whole life- and these are SO GOOD. They really made me miss my moms idlis. The idlis were wonderfully fluffy and bouncy, not like the rock hard ones we get in New York. Also, the Dosas are amazing too!!! Id recommended any of the idlis, and the upma pessaratu. The rose syrup for the rose milk is also made in house!!! Amazing!!! (Although it’s way too sweet girl me).I wish there was a location in NYC, but until then, houston- I’ll be back!!!
When we went inside we looked confused to where we had came. But we were not disappointed after we tried the food. It was very good. The service was great and fast. They were friendly.
Good service, tasty food and nice variety :)
We went here today right before closing time! The lady at the cash counter was very professional and nice. She accommodated us for last minute orders!! The food is amazing, highly recommended for idli lovers like our family!!
When I work downtown, this is my go-to spot(Once a week for sure). The food is absolutely delicious, and the service is excellent. Ive tried a variety of items from here, and everything is delicious. its so close to taste in India. My only wish is that they would be open for dinner as well.
I used to swear by this place. It was unbelievably good. For most parts, it still is but there a few changes thats taking this place in the wrong direction - sambar now tastes like water, it used to be awesome; quantity of sambar and chutney has gone down so much that its almost embarrassing. It seems as if these are cost cutting techniques but hopefully not. Like I said before, nothing majorly bad about this place, the food is still great, hence, only a 1 star reduction. Havent tried their thali, thats next on the list. Would still highly recommend this place for some awesome Indian breakfast and that too early in the morning unlike most other Indian restaurants that open at 11 or 12!
The dosa & idly here are awesome
Very tasty spot for dinner authentic, vegetarian Indian fare. The floating idlis were a hit; pairing them with the bullet idlis was a good win!
I’m surprised!!! This place is just soooo awesome! It’s the first time in Houston that idli dosa chutney and sambar were close to the authentic Indian food taste, after Sarvana Bhavan.I ordered magic idlis and magic masala dosa. Idlis definitely have the urad dal smell and taste, unlike many other shortcut restaurants who add soda to make idlis fluffy. These guys know how Indian food is made and the ingredients that go in it. The food is so affordable and so well made that you will want to visit them again and again.Overall a great experience- simply superbbb :)
Awesome food!!Must try the variety of idlis and dosa s. Filter coffee was a different level. Loved it.
Going back to this place after 15 or so months. I used to be a regular.Positive- Food was goodNegative - Actual menu is missing items from online menu (for example, no Thali)I had weird feeling my every move was being watched . I was told in a stern voice Sir, dont throw plastic in trash. I think, I saw them retrieving the plastic plate and bowl . I had ordered two items one was served in paper and another in plastic. I could hardly tell the difference.
Great restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious.
One of the best idlis I have ever had in Houston. If you have not tried Blazing Fiery Idlis here and if you love spicy food, I strongly recommend you to try that one. Apart from that you can try any dish, one of the best place for South Indian food.
Disappointing experience, run down place, sticky floors, wobbling tables, trash visible and overflowing .., if customer sitting area is so bad what the situation inside kitchen and food was semi par, Better Dosas at Hilcroft nookers ..to dear owner If you ganna charge $6 for dosa and $3 for chai ..you got one thing or other wrong ..
Nice place to eat. Good tasting Idlis and Dosas. Love the place..
Great food but not the best sit down place to eat.Highly recommend the filter coffee
Service was slow, waiters didnt communicate effectively, had multiple times where they came back to confirm the order and even then got it wrong. Food was ok, especially since we had to wait almost 20 to 30 minutes for it to arrive. Wasnt really impressed overall. Customer service is paramount, along with food that lives up to the hype. All customers count, especially 1st time visitors.
This place is amazing. Goes to show how much diversity India has managed to create for the vegetarian tab. The chutney and sambar are great. Everything I tried was really good
Neat and clean small cozy place with authentic, and delicious food served warmly. Customer next to us was being very difficult but they handled it very respectfully and professionally!
Delicious, authentic, affordable. My only critique is I wish they gave more chutney.
It’s a great place. I went with my wife. We enjoyed the food. I definitely suggest this place. 😊
Excellent food, great service. Reached late but the host Rochna was welcoming and served us past the restaurant hours.
Great family-run hole-in-the-wall! Ive been coming here for the past three years. I always order the fiery masala dosa with tomato chutney and coffee. Ive had dosas at the other restaurants in town but the one here is the best!
Amazingly authentic idlies and dosas - brought back memories of being in South India. We will be coming back!
Small family run joint,self service,limited menu,tasty grub,home style cooking!
Amazing food!! Rose milk was out of the world!❤️ Really good service and humble staffs!
Very Helpful and Lovely staff. Amazing FoodWill recommend every friend who likes Dosa!!Very Cozy atmosphere.
Amazing breakfast ! Oh my goodness . These two guys in front were thorough and quick to help . Good job keep up . I will recommend to everyone . Great and amazing place for breakfast
Good service and great meal. Enjoyed the food.
The food was delicious and flavored impeccably. The service was prompt and and friendly. Wonderful experience.
I really liked the Yummy Rava Dosa (with masala), and the hot coffee. The peanut chutney was delicious!I was told that the Magic Idlis were the bestsellers but I wasnt impressed by the added masala. The floating idlis were quite good too. I feel that the sambar could have been more flavorful and thicker. But it went well with these idlis. Overall, this is a good place to satiate your apetite for South Indian food!
Great spot to grab a yummy masala dosa, to add on had a masala chai (tea). Just make sure to order the medium spice magic masala dosa which to me felt it had enough spice level but overall enjoyed the whole feel and a great experience for a Saturday breakfast.
I’ve ordered lunch for my family and it was so good. Idli, dosa, chutney etc are so great
Awesome taste with various varieties to choose from
Great place for your idli, dosa cravings. Our favorite is the kanchipuram idli and the blazing fiery dosa( this could get a little spicy if you are not used to spicy food). The service is quick and the staff is friendly! Must try
Excellent South Indian breakfast at its best quality
Best Dosa ever. I tried Dosa in different parts of middle East and Houston. But Flying Idlis had the best Masala dost I have ever eaten.Best Dosa for best price possible.
The fiery masala dosa and the magic masala dosa were both delicious! Tony patiently helped me with figuring out the menu and was very courteous! Very satisfied.
Best food like home. We have ordered Magic Masala Dosa, Bullet Idlis and Upma Pesarattu. All three items are delicious. Chutney and Sambar are too good.Best customer service too. We also got extra item by mistake, when we informed they insisted us to have it or take with us. But, they didn’t take it back and serve it to other customers. They value the customer and food.
Average food. The prices are good and the employees are friendly. But the setting and the food presentation need LOTS of work!
Good menu, good food, good service and best hospitality!
Everything we ordered was incredible, including the chai!
Food is excellent- I drive from spring every week and stop at flying idlis is a must. The 3 star is basically for the cleanliness of the area around the register and bathroom-- I am sure a little effort from the owner will give a lot of confidence to the customers in believing that the kitchen is clean.
Off beat breakfast place serving unique varieties of Idlis and Dosas. Loved every bit of the Magic Dosa and Fiery Idlis. Ending this sumptuous breakfast with the traditional south Indian Filter Coffee was just perfect. Amazing service by the owners who themselves serve the food and make you feel at home. A must visit!
Great place and amazing breakfast food. I would recommend if you are looking for south indian breakfast cuisine.
We had no idea what idlis was but wanted to try them! We got there on a Saturday morning and the place was packed! We waited a few minutes for them to clean out a table, and basically ordered all the different type of idlis they have. We probably ordered too much because they started to taste similar towards the end, but they were so good! Id love to go back for their thali next time.
Great south Indian food and affordable. Highly recommended it.
Ordered idlis and they took too long (initially promised 15 minutes and took more than 30) and the staff were rude, with cold updates on ETA without eye contact.
Definitely recommend the fiery dosa and masala dosa if you can handle some spicy food!
Excellent customer service! Best Indian breakfast joint in Houston, reminds me of home! Loved their chutneys, Upma Pesarattu, Magic Idlis, Magic Dosa and Bite size Samosas with home made chutney!!
The Healthy idels taste really good.
Ordered Dosa and Idly for takeout. While appreciate open during the coldwave but the food can be a lot better.
The servings are very small. You need decent amount of sambhar for the idlis, not in the chutney cup. The size of the poori is much smaller than the meals servings and the cost is too high for two small pooris. The idlis were average. You can visit this only once. The dosas are also average.
What do you know bout that Dosa Life. Found the Flying Idlis tucked away in one of Houston’s many strip malls. The food is inexpensive & filling. I tried the Magic Dosa. The sauces were outstanding. Dosa’s come served with three sauces. You receive a lentil sauce, spicy tomato, & peanut butter sauce. The service was outstanding. I could eat one of these everyday.
Fantastic food great flavors i ordered the samosas, weekly special Thali, Magic Idlis for my father and I and this was his first take on this type of cuisine he liked it a lot and of course were stuffed after. Will be back with my wife she loves this
Not worth it of quantity and the service. Food taste was okay.. First and last visit here. I am flyyyinnn...
If anyone likes to go eat Authentic South Indian food this is the place to go. The idlis are so soft and the dosa are sooo crispy. They open early in morning so one can go have a good hearty south Indian breakfast. They even sell sambhar masalas and podis. Highly recommend this place.
Food was really good!good customer service!
Good, wholesome food at great rates. Loved it
Amazing food and excellent service. A must try place when visiting Houston!!
I have never eaten this style of food before so we decided to give it a try. The food was delicious, we were pleasantly surprised. Will definitely be back!
A great variety of idlis, from mild to spicy! The service was quick and the host was enthusiastic. 10/10 recommend!
Wow! It was our first time and the friendly owner explained the menu to us and helped us order a nice variety. Food was very good and the milk coffee is my wife’s new favorite.
South Indian andhrapradesh/karnataka style light food- good
An amazing, good quality, cheaper price and only early available indian break fast.
The food was delicious. But this time, Sambar was not up to the mark.. But I really loved the dishes there especially magic masala dosa and magic idlys...
Probably one of the best Dosa in the city at a very reasonable price.
I tried it twice before posting a bad review. A South Indian tiffin restaurant is usually judged by their utter basics - the Idli, the Sambar and maybe the chutneys too. All of these at Flying Idlis are bad, Idlis are as hard as a rock, Sambar is close to water and the chutney is just okay. Ironically, everything here except the Idlis and the Sambar are decent. Flying Idlis, please walk your Idlis before you make them fly. As hard as they are, can cause serious injury if they hit someone in the head.
Nice fast food center to enjoy South Indian food.
