David does some amazing work. I was super happy with the work that does was done to may guitars. I highly recommend this shop.
I bought a Gibson Flying V B2 and needed to have a Kahler bridge, locking tuners, and new pickups installed. Dave did an amazing job at all this, routed the body, did a great setup with low action, and kept me updated the whole time. All for a very good price, I am gonna come here for all of my future guitar needs.
Just had an amazing experience at Texas Guitar Hospital. Went in for a quote on some repairs on my well-loved but beaten up #1 strat. What I found was a fully operational custom guitar and pickup making facility. Met the owner, Dave, at the front desk. Super nice guy. Took me on a tour of their operations. Wow is an understatement. On top of that, lightning quick turnaround and the best rates in town.Rio Grande pickups are the brand of their custom p/u. I wound up having the bridge p/u replaced with their RailGunner custom one. It absolutely transformed the weak sound from the bridge to a monstrous tone dripping with attitude. Highly recommend.
I brought in my guitar on a Friday for some saddle drilling and stripped screws that needed to be fixed. Dave gave me a quote and showed me the workshop, which was pretty neat. After not hearing anything back for a few days, I called Dave and he had a rude and impatient tone when I politely asked for an ETA. Instead of giving any ETA, he said that he has a lot of people ahead of me and that he would call me when its finished. I waited another 7 days and then went to his store to ask if hed had a chance to start on the repairs. He still hadnt, and didnt offer any ETA, so I took my guitar back. Both times that I went to the shop, he wasnt wearing a mask (and didnt offer to either). Im rating this three stars because there was no visible damage to my guitar while it was stored, and he didnt give me any attitude when I went back to pick up the guitar. Didnt appreciate being given the run around, or the rude phone call though.
Dave took care of my Gibson R9, Fender strat, and other guitars . Excellent set up, top notch service, I was able to tour his guitar factory as well. I don’t think there is a place in Houston with more capable people to take care of your guitar, they actually build custom made guitars and pick ups! I will come back for sure.
Dave has been building and setting up guitars longer than most people have been alive. If he cant fix it, no one can.
Great wealth of knowledge. They do great work on guitars.
I decided to learn to play the guitar during this COVID-19 pandemic, but when I pulled out my sons old guitar a string was broken. No worries since I found Dave at Texas Guitar Hospital. Dave is very knowledgeable and nice, and fixed the guitar for a very reasonable price. I appreciated that he asked about my skill level, which is beginner, and set up the guitar for my specific level so that I can hopefully have some success! I will be a repeat customer and recommend Dave to anyone needing work on their guitar. Thanks again!
Strongly recommend Texas Guitar Hospital for Houstons guitar players. Took in my old Gibson electric guitar, and after their work, it sounds like a brand new guitar. Ill definitely be back.
Dave at Texas Guitar Hospital really helped me tweak a string buzz issue through a number of adjustments without having to do a major repair. Great service and great facility/factory.
Dave is a great guy, did a custom pickgaurd and came out absolutely PERFECT. Looks amazing, fixed my nut and did a setup, plays beautifully.
I brought my Martin D 28 Shenandoah from the 80s to Texas Guitar Hospital which I found on Yelp. Hadn’t had strings on it in a long time and I needed to get it back in playing condition. It’s in great shape, just needed to be played. Two days later I got it back and it’s awesome. Frets polished, fingerboard cleaned and oiled, the transducer pickup that didn’t work before and the loose jack is working again, and the action was lowered to total comfort and easy playability.A good cleanup and polish and it almost looks new again. I’m so excited to play it.Also found out this is the location of the old Robin guitar factory and Dave who worked on my guitar is the original owner and builder of Robin and other guitar brands. Totally made me feel like they knew what they were doing. Great job and thanks again. Would totally recommend!I have four or five more guitars that also need resurrection.I know where I’m going to take them… :-)
My husband tracked down my dads old guitar (from the sixties) because Ive wanted to learn how to play forever and he knows how much having it would mean to me.With that being said, there are quite a few adjustments and updates needed. Since this is a priceless guitar and very special to me, I wanted to make sure I took it to the right people.I went to Texas Guitar Hospital today to get a quote. I spoke with Dave for quite a while and discussed that its a very sentimental object for me and I want to be able to play on it and keep it for the next 50+ years. He not only worked on what he could while I waited but he explained every detail of what he would repair and how that would improve the sound of the guitar. I have no doubt that they will take absolute care with my guitar and treat it like their own.Dave is not only extremely kind and friendly, but I have no doubt in the world he is the best out there. Period. He has so much knowledge on everything from guitar repairs to custom guitar assembly. As someone who knows near nothing about this guitar, he helped me understand what needs to be done now, what can wait, and what I can do to prolong the life of my guitar. Instead of trying to replace as much as he possibly could, he was honest about repairs needed and didnt pressure me into doing anything extra. His rates are extremely reasonable and he has great turnaround time.Dave, thank you so much for your kindness and patience today. I truly cannot explain how comforting it is to know I wont have to worry about low quality craftsmanship or customer service. Youve gained a lifetime customer and I will absolutely refer any of my friends who play straight to you!
Texas Guitar Hospital is quite a distance from my house, but well worth the drive to have things done right. Im not a fan of the medium to big box guitar stores when it comes to guitar work, as you dont know what youll get. This is not the case with Dave and his crew. The knowledge in the shop oozes out the front door. Several months ago I purchased a very nice acoustic, and within a week I put a not-so-nice little dent and scratch in the front finish. Dave took it in and was able to repair it as if it never happened. His shop also set up several electric guitars of mine, and theyve ever played so well. I will go nowhere else for guitar repair/setup/etc needs. Dave and his crew certainly know their stuff.
Excellent work! Got my LTD Les Paul in shred-ready condition. I absolutely recommend set-ups from Texas Guitar Hospital/Rio Grande Pickups! My guitar practically plays itself now, and I hardly make any mistakes now that the playability of my instrument has improved drastically.
So I purchased a bass and had it shipped from NYC. During shipment to Houston it developed some back bow in the neck. I called and spoke to Dave and asked if they could help me out. Showed up at the shop and the issue was resolved within 15 minutes. This hidden gem of a shop has been making custom guitars for a number of years. The experience level was noticable immediately. Some of the other local repair boys came out of this shop. This is the only shop that will touch my bass in the future. I would give em 6 stars if I could. Dave it was my pleasure to meet you and tour your facility. I wont be going anyplace but your place. Theres a good reason all of your reviews are 5 star reviews. You. Bless you brother....
Had a crack on my Gibson SG that Dave took care of. While there, I also had him do a full set up and now the guitar looks, feels, and plays great! Dave also advised me on a few other things I could do in the future, but it was just friendly info - no hard sell at all. Love this place and will be bringing him more work in the future!
Had a refret job done on my 30 year old Ibanez, plus a Rio Grande pickup installation in the bridge position. Amazing job! Plays better than ever. Sounds amazing. Very experienced owner and staff. I highly recommend this place!
Excellent job setting up my sons SG!
Dave gave excellent customer service he was very helpful with information about our antique guitar as well as assisting us in our questions he also did a adjustment on the neck of a guitar a nativist in the knowledge of the best way Giselle for the best price...BLESSED BE 2 A FABULOUS OLD SCHOLL AWESOME .PROPRIETOR LIKE DAVE WEINTZ
Great work and outstanding attention to detail. Actually talked me OUT of some expensive but ultimately unnecessary work that I wanted done on my guitar (how many times does THAT happen?).
Great work on my simi-hollow. Perfect set up!
Great communication, quick turnaround. My Les Pauls neck cracked, and it plays better than it did before it was broken. Thanks Dave!
I can’t say enough good things about Texas Guitar Hospital. Dave (the owner) is extremely knowledgeable about guitars and very friendly and helpful. I brought in a 1967 Epiphone that I hadn’t played in years as a previous shop had told me that the neck needed to be reset. Not only did Dave fix my guitar without resetting the neck and for 1/3 of the price that I was expecting, but he got it all done within a day, and now it plays and sounds better than ever! If you care about your instrument, take it to Texas Guitar Hospital. You and your guitar will be in good hands. It’s a 4-hour round trip for me coming from East Texas, but it’s well worth it. I wouldn’t take my vintage gear anywhere else. And if Dave asks you if you’d like a tour of the building - say yes! The back of the shop is literally a guitar factory where Robin Guitars and Rio Grande Pickups are made. Thanks again for bringing my Epiphone back to life, Dave!
Right when you walk in you get that beautiful smell of melted wax because in the back they are potting the fattest, nastiest most rockin pickups in the world, Rio Grandes! Im a pro musician going on 15 years and I took my strat here and I couldnt be happier. Highly recommended
Im a professional musician hailing from Houston, have a few decades of experience on the subject of pro gear and many of my friends would agree they are of the same ilk.I would also say that many of them are somewhere in the realm of tone hound, gear head...even guitar slinger / local legend.Point is I had a huge experience pool to tap into when it came time for me to decide to get my 5 string fretless bass a tune up / overhaul and possible upgrade. After considering all kinds of tips and advice plus my usual YouTube video tutorial binge (I *am* a do-it-yourselfer...but alas, one with limited free time) and drawing on my own experience, I decided to leave my baby with the fine folks at Texas Guitar Hospital.I was well aware they had decades of experience with ALL aspects of guitars...building, painting, customizing, custom pickups...you name it.So, wow it turns out I made the right choice! These guys custom-made me a set of five string bass pickups to fit the special sized openings in my instrument. Cool! When I got the bass back it played so much better than when I brought it in.I leave it out of the case now where I can grab it. Im inspired again to play it more!Awesome work, quick turnaround, a job well done...very cool workshop too..!
Full scale guitar shop. Well equiped and neatly organized for building and repairing guitars. Knowledgeable, experienced, and rallented luthier and guitar technician. It only took Dave one minute to diagnose the problem with my guitar, point out key structural issues with it, and list details of repair plan. I really appreciate the honest advice Dave provided which saved me time, effort, and money. I toured the facility and I admire the level of organization and attention to procedural details of all stages of guitar making/repairing. I recommend that you visit the place and talk to Dave for any guitar repair needs.
Bought Rio Grande Pickups for my guitar and was thoughorly pleased with sound and service received. Very friendly and knowledable, I would absolutely recommend their products and repair/restoration services.
Is this even open?
