I’m a new rider and I’m so glad I took this class! The ecourse takes way longer than indicated but it’s packed with lots of life saving information. Don’t do it last min. Gary and Chris were awesome, very patient, and highly informative. It’s required to get your M license and you also get a discount on your insurance. I’m planning to take the total control class too but wish they had more dates to choose from.
It was one of the best weekends I’ve had since we’ve moved to TX! Chris&Bee are great instructors, they have a lot of patience and they make the experience fun but focused on safety at the same time. They take things very seriously and they are great professionals! Thank you! I feel confident that I will be a very good (beginner) rider thanks to you, guys!
If I could give this course 10 stars in would. All I can say is THANK YOU Chris !! The course was not easy but the instructor made it well to understand and demonstrated the directions very clearly and was very supportive throughout the entire process. He never gave up on us and honestly I wish I could go everyday 😅 ill definitely be signing up for advanced classes just to come back. Thank you!!!
I was nervous coming to class on the morning of Day 1. But I left very relaxed on the afternoon of Day 2. Chris and Gary are very knowledgeable and skilled instructors.Go to class, pay attention, follow their advice and youll do well. Be safe and be humble. Classes are offered on the weekend and also during the week for those folks who cannot attend on weekends. If you take your own motorbike you can use that, in case you dont want to use the provided motorbikes. I rode my scooter to class and I was given permission to use my scooter throughout my course.
Mannnnnn I loved this course!! If I could go everyday I would. I learned so much, Gary and Chris were super knowledgeable and very very cool! They had our whole class laughing and we were having such a fun time. They were very patient with us and I could tell they were passionate about their job! This course was a blast thank you all at MRH Rider Training.
Instructors really watch how your handling the bike. They give you the basic concepts about shifting, turning, braking, stopping, etc. I had a blast learning from Cris and Travis! They critic your hand and foot movement through the course. Only reason Im giving 4 stars is i wish the lessons were longer. I guess thats a question for the DMV... definitely coming back for the intermediate course.
Together as a team, Gary and David (Dr.) prove that a 100% professional job doesnt have to be boring. They teach very well the basics that will help the future rider (us) to get into the motorcycle lifestyle in a safe and responsible way.
This is a reply to the owner’s reply to my previous review. The maim problem was the way my instructor reacted when I made mistakes following his instructions! He was quite rude to me! He had a strong Texan accent which is hard for a non-native speaker to understand, which he doesn’t care about. Also, I never complained about the hot weather, owner! I complained about the way water is served in the range. It is quite surprising that my previous review is replied like that😳
Outstanding course. Even better Instructor. Shawn is amazing. Been riding 20 years and I was still learning. I recommend this course to anyone interested in safe and serious riding. Had a blast!
I took the MSF course here. The facility is just OK. In the hot weather, many people are dehydrated after many hours being in the sun. They are not generous enough to offer some bottles of water. There is a cooler with some water inside (maybe tab water) and the number of cups are limited!Regarding the trainer, mine was so rude with strong Texan accent which is hard for many non-native speakers. He is easy to get angry and insult you. I would strongly recommend to stay away from them.
Very good for learning how to ride and obtaining an M class endorsement. The class and the instructor was very informative. They care about the students as I was 5 minutes late for the course the first day and I was called to see if I was still coming. The hands on experience was well thought out and I wasnt overwhelmed at all. The location where the class portion took place was also a joy as during the lunch break they had a good assortment of motorcycles to look at to get a feel for what you would be looking for. I have learned how to ride and I am excited to get on the road. I had a great experience and a lot of fun.
Great experience taking the MSF basic course with Chris. I’m a beginner to riding motorcycles and was a bit nervous but quickly gained confidence while learning during the progressive skills riding exercises. Enjoyed Cris’s energy and personality and effective teaching style. Did a great job teaching some concepts and skills that I had little experience with and was having difficulty performing at first. Chris took time individually with students to make sure they learned the skills. It’s not a group class where people who need a little extra help get left behind. Anyone who pays attention should pass. The bikes provided were easy to ride and lots of fun. Yeah the MSF course costs $$$ and takes time but I’m sure it’ll help avoid deadly road accidents. I am planning to take an intermediate course with Chris in the future.
My husband and I took the course here. I would absolutely NOT recommend taking the course here if you are a woman for sure!Go to Awesome Cycles. Its the same price. Its a woman instructor. Our instructor was Travis who definitely profiled me. I was given a bike where the clutch needed to be lifted AND pulled to work. Also, the kickstand needed to be pulled out further to hold up the bike. Travis also said the bike had a special kickstand. The second day the faulty clutch was confirmed by another experienced rider who used my bike who also complained about the clutch not working. Isnt it a tenet of this course to have an accurately operating vehicle? This is a huge safety concern and shut down for a beginner. Before the third exercise, Travis pretty much coerced me into stopping. Everyone student was tense the whole time due to Travis. Greg was the co-instructor and a lot nicer. I also learned later that 70% of the class actually retook the class!?!I read other reviews women who went afterwards to Awesome Cycles after getting profiled here and who had a better experience. In conclusion, I would not recommend this place at all if you are a woman. The instructor didnt provide a comfortable experience - woman or man. If you are dumb enough to want to move forward, make sure your instructor isnt Travis. You are better off going to Awesome Cycles. Its the same price and has more and better reviews.
Had a great first day. The classroom was quiet, well lit, comfortable and clean. The range was huge and had everything needed to represent basic real-world practice. Some things were a little difficult for me to see while in motion but I felt like that was part of the training because as it went on I was getting better at searching and finding important information. The bikes we used were Suzuki 250’s, old but sporty and smooth, started fast every time even though the temp was in the 40’s. Shawn was easy to hear and understand even with engines running. He doesn’t like to waste time or words, and I feel like we all benefited from well thought out opinions and facts distilled down from having a lot of experience in different aspects of riding and ownership of different kinds of bikes. He was firm on principles and considerate in their application. He was also skilled at catching things I needed to improve on and calling them out in a way I could follow while in motion on the range. Overall it was a great experience so far. I would recommend the school and him as an instructor for anyone wanting to take this type of course.
SHAWN WAS AN EXCELLENT COACH. I would recommend anyone who is serious about riding; and their safety to participate in the MRH RIDER Training Courses/Classes.
Shawn was an awesome instructor! He made me, (a low experience rider) guide the class and do all of the exercises first. I was super nervous at first, but he made me feel confident with my aptitude and it was a blast! I now ride every day and thank God I had such an awesome instructor!
I think overall it was to intense 😬 for it to be basic rider course some what knowledgeable I think they only want your money and really dont care whether you got it or not because if you fail thats why you came in the first place totally ripoff for beginners
Learned a lot that I didn’t know and the teachers were great and funny and helped men to be a safe and better rider
Whole lotta fun. Shwan was a great coach. Learned alot and had fun doing it
Great experience I had learning skills and safety for a new rider.
Having very little motorcycle riding experience, I opted for a private basic rider course with Chris in order to focus on and improve my weaknesses. It was more expensive than the group lesson, but Chris was very thorough in his analysis of my technique, attentive, answered all my questions, and when necessary went Newtons laws on me to drive the message home. I noticed significant improvement in my technique and confidence as long as I applied Chris feedback, which was on point. Highly recommended business and instructor.
Good times, informative, plenty of hands-on experience, solid teaching
Shawn was a amazing teacher. He’s funny, knowledgeable and awesome at his job. I would highly recommend you ask for him specifically. I had never rode a motorcycle before his class and he got me comfortable and confident within 2 days. He’s absolutely amazing. I will be recommending his class to everyone. He deserves a raise.
Mr. Chris was a great instructor and had a nice middle when it came to critiquing issues while being nice. Definitely would take again, the two consecutive Mondays was a nice schedule and feel far more confident than I did initially.
Took the can-am 3-wheel training class 7/3 with Keith and Gary and had a great time. They were fun, knowledgeable and informative and gave us great insight on every aspect of the bike or trike whatever you want to call it. Anyone looking for a beginner class and can accept coaching I definitely recommend it. Thanks again Keith and Gary!
I went into the MRH class unsure of how I would do. I had no experience with motorcycles other than YouTube videos. I walked out of the class confident in my limited amount of skills and sure that I can ride a MC. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn to ride motorcycles! It’s worth every penny and second that you spend there.
Had a great two days,... class was fun, instruction great, would highly recommend.I had never ridden a motorcycle before the class, and feel ready to safely get in to the sport.Shawn (the instructor) did a great job of teaching our group (5 of us)!
Shawn was my instructor and is truly a BADASS. I own a biker bar (Neon Moon) and heard so many good things about him. They were right! I have only been on the back of bikes until this class and feel much safer as a new rider having had this instruction, especially under this instructor!
Shawn was great and we had a lot of fun while taking the training experience very seriously. In the future, I fully intend on taking the more advanced class in oder to improve my skills. I’m glad I took the class and can’t wait to see Shawn out on the road.
Shawn was a very capable instructor. I feel like Ill be a safer driver and that I know better how to handle my bike. Im glad I took the safety course.
The course was challenging and rewarding. My instructor Shawn was excellent in preparation for the test course. He went over each task to teach.
Shaun was great. He is patient, fair and encouraging. He demonstrates clearly and gives everyone ample time to understand. I recommend.
Took my beginners course and Shawn was my instructor. Had a great time while training. Shawn its a great coach and I I learned a lot from him🤘🏼👍🏼
Fantastic and professional service. I took the rider course and really enjoyed it. The required pre-course gave good training and preparation. The practical training was very good and ensured the skills were learned and practiced well. The instructors were knowledgeable and had a great level of enthusiasm and energy that made the course fun. At the end of the course, I felt confident to ride on any street and to handle going to the next steps of buying a bike and actually riding on small streets. This is a basic course, one won’t be hitting highways or heavy roads, but one could have enough to continue practice one smaller streets and road ways and train up to everywhere riding. They do have more advanced courses at that point.Very well done. Thank you.
I took my motorcycle safety course at the Crossroads location with Chris and Kelly. Both instructors were very knowledgeable and skilled. Chris was responsible for demonstrating the techniques, Kelly explaining them. Chriss technique and form were impeccable. Both instructors offered valuable critiques unique to your individual performance.Kelly was particularly supportive and happily answered questions from all of us, particularly from one student who clearly had some learning impediments.Chris was again very knowledgeable and skilled, but his coaching seemingly came from a place of frustration and annoyance at a few points. He utilized negative reinforcement, and I watched as the student mentioned above became intimidated and more reserved during one such interaction. This is very counter intuitive when trying to teach safety and foster confidence. Contrasting with Kelly, it would almost appear as if Chris has lost his passion for rider safety education, or at least needs a decent vacation. In any case, my experience was a positive one and I am looking forward to taking another class with Chris and Kelly in the future. Thanks!
Sean (instructor) was great, class awesome! Great experience for new riders or riders wanting critical information on motorcycle riding.
Went through the two day rider course with instructor Shawn & had a blast ! He is a great instructor who provides constructive criticism and positive feedback. The whole process was a great learning experience and highly recommend it.
Great class, had fun, met new people, more importantly developed some riding skills. Thanks to Shawn, he is a great instructor !
I did the course here last weekend. The communication through out the process was excellent. We were lucky to have a coach in Greg, had an excellent lesson. Have to applaud him placing such importance on safety. The lessons were innovative and fun. Riding activities on the lot was well designed, I have been riding for 20 years but this helped bringing everything back. Brian our other coach was very helpful, gave us technical details of riding and was very patient. Thank you both for making everything so easy. Will never forget all the advice when I am on the roads. Safe riding everyone!
Great class, instructor Shawn works with you. Had alot of fun... Good for even experienced riders....
Shawn was a detail oriented instructor that made class fun. Having never ridden a bike before, he helped me learn and coached me well.
Class was very informative, my wife and both took it together. David our coach is a fantastic teacher giving special time to folks needing it. My lower then desired rating was the bike I used, first day was with a front brake lever broke off in half, what really bothered me was having to heel kick the kickstand safety switch over and over again on each engine start during the 2 day class. As a funny it ended up bruising the my heel. Equipment was tattered at the rate we paid I feel bikes should be in a little better shape.
Shawn was a great rider coach who helped me learn things I hadnt even thought of before, would completely recommend him and the class for beginner riders.
I took the basic rider course at the crossroads location off of 290 and 1960. my coaches were Greg and I think Ken or Maybe Keith? it started with a K for sure. But they were both good coaches and very knowledgeable about riding. I never rode a bike before but they got me riding within a few hours of being on the riding range. I would recommend the course to anyone who is just starting out or even needs a refresher.
Did intermediate Total Control at Crossroads under Chris and David on 07-12-19. Both instructors know how to ride and well. Course was informative and enjoyable. They teach techniques that can be use in any style of riding and on bikes big and small...I know I was riding a Goldwing!I would suggest this course to anyone that wants to become a safer and more competent rider.
Excellent training and instructions. Good learning experience but still an enjoyable and fun class.
Shawn was the best instructor I could’ve had ! He’s definitely helped me improve my skills !
Great experience from instructor Shawn. Very friendly really helps you ride.
I like Sir Shawn he is excellent, perfect teacher has alot of patience for begginer drivers, i will recommend him for friends and family!
Shawn was very good instructor. I strongly recommend the course
Very informative, would recommend any one. Shawn was a great instructor!
Shawn did a great job. Learned good habits.
When I first got to the class I thought that everyone there would have some kind of experience on a motorcycle but I found out that many of the attendees have never been on one. Long story short by the second day they were riding and maneuvering the bikes better than I have seen some seasoned riders do. With that being said, I do recommend this course for all riders with zero to years of experience. I have been riding motorcycles on and off for years but I learned so much from this class. It definitely has made me a better and safer rider. Gary was our coach and he was really awesome. Gary was patient and informative, most of all you can see that he really cares about safety and has a passion for riding. This school and this class gets its well deserved 5 stars. Thanks MRH and coaches!
Took this class to get my M endorsement after riding for a couple of years, would recommend this class for anyone who has never touched a bike before. Nora and Dave were awesome and fun instructors, very knowledgeable and patient with new riders. Its all about having confidence with yourself when learning how to ride, it isnt the instructors fault if you cant handle your own. Great course overall! P.S. Dont drop your bike!
Completed Basic Rider course with Chris. The course was super informative and well presented. The time on the range was the best and Chris was a great instructor.
Course was awesome and pretty fun. Shawn the instructor was great
Just got done taking this class with Jim and Nora and couldnt be any more pleased on how well they taught us. They had individuals who never rode a motorcycle riding in 30 mintues and bettering our skills over the 2 days to give us confidence on the bikes. I would recommend this class for any beginners looking to ride.
I took the class yesterday and today. i was terrified of motorcycles, the staff is great and well informed. by the time i got onto the bike i knew most of the controls and was able to easily start, ride and maneuver the bike. they will encourage you and help you learn. be confident and dont overthink their instructions and youll do well. THANKS JIM AND DEMO DAVE!!!
Just finished my course at the gulf freeway location and passed! It was great!! Our instructor made it very simple and easy to understand. I recommend this course to anyone learning to ride or who wants to ride and have no experience. Pay attention and listen to your instrusctor and youll do fine
I love the class. It really help . Thanks Shawn and Keith 😁
Great class. Instructor was super patient and accommodating.
Great class learned alot
Excellent trainer.
While I was in the Houston area, I was searching for a Basic Rider Course for a specific weekend. I was interested in the course provided by Harley Davidson, but unfortunately there was no availability for the dates I was available. I decided to try the course with MRH and I was impressed. These instructors are professionals. I have been riding motorcycles on and off for over 20 years in different countries, and honestly my focus was to get the Basic Rider Course completion card to add the motorcycle endorsement to my license. I have to admit that I was extremely impressed with the professionalism of the instructors Gary and Robert, and how well this course is put together. I was able to learn more about safety practices while riding the motorcycle and identify what I have been doing right and wrong in my 20 years of motorcycle experience. The course has a class session that lasts half day with visual presentations and explanations on how to check the motorcycle, identify escape routes, how to ride the motorcycle, all the safety aspect. The class is interactive and dynamic with group exercises. After the class you take a written test that has to be passed with 80% or more. The practical portion is 1 day and a half of riding exercises that starts from the basic operation of the clutch, power walking, shifting gears, hard stopping, u-turns, swerving, how to ride on curves, lane changing. The overall program is intense with lots of riding. For first time riders you will learn but you have got to pay attention to the instructor because it can be overwhelming and it easy to get confused with so many painted lines on the riding field. The instructor explained each exercise verbally, then the other instructor will show the exercise with a motorcycle. One thing I noticed with the course is that the instructors are strict with time punctuality, safety, and the written and practical test. For first time riders, I recommend to get familiar with the clutch before taking the course. Unfortunately one attendee was disqualified the second day because was not able to dominate the operation of the clutch. If you are able to complete each exercise without a problem, you should be able to pass the practical test. The instructor always tells you if you did the riding exercises right, and if you did something wrong, they will explain you how to improve it, and you have the opportunity to make it right. As far as the motorcycles used for practice, they are all in good condition, some of them have a scratch or dent here and there, but they are mechanically in excellent condition. Overall, I recommend this course with MRH to anyone interested in getting the motorcycle endorsement.
I just took the basic riders course at the gulf freeway location. The instructor was awesome and the course was very informative.
Great training to get me riding on my motorcycle
Damn good coaches. Class was painless and fun.
Great place to learn somethings even if you aready know how to ride. Thanks Chris. All around 5 star.
Took the class and even though I passed and am able to manage the basics on the bike I was not happy with the coach/trainer. Dont remember his name (maybe Chris?). He was not professional at all! He made very inappropriate comments towards several people and comments against women in general etc. thinking that he is funny. The course is very intense and challenging and he made it even worse. The overall experience was ruined mainly because of him. I usually handle sarcasm very well and did not take any of his comments personally but hearing him talking about other students behind their back was too much. His professionalism was unacceptable.
The basic rider class is a requirement for class M, so I expected it to be like defensive driving or something, where you watch boring videos and your instructor is a monotone bromide who hates life and projects his self- loathing onto his students by force feeding you interminable state sponsored course material.....This class wasnt like that at all!! It was FUN. It is almost completely interactive and hands on, Chris was a GREAT instructor, obviously passionate about what hes doing and attentive to detail to make sure you are getting everything you need out of the course. 5 stars, worth every penny.
I want to start by saying that I have about 15 years experience as a rider. Most of which was motocross but I only ride street bikes now. That being said I can tell you that I was DEFINITELY one of, if not THE, most experienced rider in my class. The overall curriculum was VERY basic but ABSOLUTELY necessary for new riders. Which by the way, there were several people in my class that had never rode a bike before. As for the teaching, our instructor Jim was absolutely perfect. Kudos to MRH for hiring such a patient and descriptive teacher. Funny too, but thats just a plus. HOWEVER, the demonstration riding instructor Nora, for some reason seemed to have it out for me. Maybe its because I said that I had a lot of experience riding, I dont know. I will say that she is a VERY GOOD rider and had a near flawless execution of each demonstration. BUT!!! I can without a doubt tell you that I was being over criticized by her for things that I saw other riders doing and never had a word said to them about. Things such as Bend your arms more. I know you didnt engage your brake in that turn but take your finger off of the lever! Dont touch the clutch! When you brake, use all four fingers not just three! NITPICKING things..and Im sorry but in motocross with a lot of twists and fast turns I got used to riding a certain way. If im riding on the open road, no, I wont have a finger resting on the brake lever. However, in a small course with short distance turns and going around cones...thats just how I ride. Its funny because Jim almost never critiqued me. Pretty much the only thing he would say was to go a bit slower at times. I even had one of students ask, How do you make that look so easy?. If youre reading this far I promise Im going somewhere with this. At the end of the evaluation ride, Nora called me out in front of the class to go grab my helmet out of my ride. When I walked up to her she said that I failed miserably....are you kidding me!?!?...we had three students drop their bike, several stalls, a student that at first could barley find neutral. I executed every single one of the evaluation courses safely and probably with more confidence than every student there. EVERY other student passed with no problem and youre going to threaten to fail me and have me pay another $250 to take the course over!?!? I could barely believe this was happening. So I had to ride it again in front of the students in order to pass. Which of course led to several what was that about questions from the students afterwards. One student thought that she was trying to get me to ride a perfect score...but no. It was ridiculous empowerment taking place. Needless to say I ended up passing the course. Although, Im confident it would have been accomplished the first try if it was only Jim doing the grading.
Thanks Shawn for good training.
Great experience teach me in detail
Unless you already have experience riding bikes do not go here. The teachers will offer you minimal information, and tell you to go home instead of trying to work with you to improve. You will pay $220 and ride for two hours before they tell you to leave. You will not be allowed to practice or learn.Buy a bike, Watch a video, Practice and Teach yourself.DO NO rely on them to help if you are a brand new biker. Also dont go if your a bigger guy. Unless you have your own bike, They will give you a tiny bike to learn on and youll have your knees really high up crippling your range of movement.
Good experience for beginner riders...
Been riding since 70 use to race on a 72 husky CR250 never took a riders training course before. Ive owned more bikes than I want to count and never had a license, the Texas I lived in didnt need one, but different times.Took the intermediate MRH Rider Training listened, tried, and learned. Rode my 13 Kawa 1700 about 3 hours today in Houston traffic used a lot they taught me and even looked through the corners ok Chris, Thanks for your help.
Sean is awesome great instructor
Start out saying that Greg Melius was our ridercouch on gulf freeway location on 4-29 & 4-30. Every one in the group had more or less the same experience on motorcycle. Greg took us from nothing to something in 2 days. The way he handled the written and riding class was above anyones expectations. Exhausting 16 hours but worth every minute. You leave that place knowing exactly the basics to get started and some more. I do not know the other ridecouches, but, if you are a beginner looking for a course I will defenetly recomed taking this course with Greg no matter the location he is in. Its worth more then that extra mile. Two dumbs up for the class.
Shawn did a great job
Great coaches
The instructors were awesome and very highly skilled with tons of information to go along with every bit of the course. I took the brand new intermediate TotalControl course that allows riders that have their own motorcycle to skip the beginner course to better hone in on skills and still be able to recieve the same motorcycle safety course certificate to take to the DPS to be one step closer to getting your motorcycle license. They also give you a copy for your insurance. This class is rain or shine, we were all blessed with a thunderstorm which with the guidance of the instructors, gave everybody the peace of mind and experience to ride comfortably in heavy rain. The class spanned from 8am to 5pm with in class portions seperated by out on your bike practice runs and tests. They gave each individual personal instruction on the little things to make them perform flawless menuevers. I was very impressed with the TotalControl course and i would recommend it to anyone that has either been through the basic beginner course, or has been riding for id say at least 2 years and owns their own insured motorcycle.
Great place to learn how to ride a motorcycle.
