I was seen as soon as I got there. The Doctor was very professional and explained my condition in detail. I feel I got an excellent exam. I will be able to see a lot better with these new glasses. The woman who helped me pick out my new lenses was helpful. The whole experience took only a half hour.

I went on 86 to pick up my glasses after I got a text they were ready and I was trying to use a service they offer but I was told I was not able to . I was suppose to get a call back and they never called so I had to go the weekend without glasses. I ended up calling the one on Pendleton pike who was very helpful and quick to resolve my issue with payment. I feel like the store on 86 was not helpful in servicing as far as good customer service.

I am wearing glasses for the first time and they made the transition fun and comfortable! My two daughters one a teenager Nd one a pre-teen enjoyed their visit also. They have numerous stylish wear. I have now bout a total of seven glasses. The staff seem to genuinely like each other and the environment is peaceful. Thank you Dr. Tavel.

I just want to add that I had a wonderful experience on 6/16/2021 -My first time going to that establishment was awesome the whole staff was wonderful-I understood what was going on-I was giving multiple options per my coverage and my upgrade was not to expensive so over all very satisfied-oh yeah I don’t mind the wait for my glasses 👓 it took my mom 9 months to get me here 😄

Dr Tavel office got me in quick and out. They were wiping things down consistently. Professional staff and was made to feel comfortable. Was able to get exam and get glasses sufficiently. I’ll be picking up my glasses in two weeks.

Place was set up nicely and people were very cordial. My appointment started on time and was seen in a professional manner.

Unfortunately I cannot rate this any lower than 1 star. I understand that the pandemic has caused delays but I was told my glasses would take 2 weeks which is a long time in itself. But at the 2 week mark they are not in. I call and I’m told to wait another week. I call again at the 3 week mark. Yet again I’m told to wait another week. So 4 weeks and still no glasses. I was told on the phone that all they glasses have been delayed which is ironic because my fiancé’s glasses were done in 2 weeks and arrived. Then I was told, by mistake I assume, that my glasses haven’t even been made. This place is a joke. If you MUST go here I recommend getting just your prescription and ordering someplace else. Order on Zenni Optical or any place else. You’ll go blind waiting on these people!

I was helped immediately when I walked through the door. I didn’t realize that my son’s appointment was before mine so we were late for his appointment but they said it was fine and we’re able to get him right back. The place was clean and they are doing great with Covid-19 protocols. Very friendly environment. The doctor was great!

The staff went over and beyond they were so nice it was busy but they handled it very well and were very polite. my exam was very fast the doctor was very nice. Im super excited for my new pair of glasses. they have a great selection of pick from.

My family and I have been going to this location for years. My daughter and I saw a new doctor, he was very thorough and kind. The manager, I think her name is Jessica, is always kind and explains everything to me in detail and is customer service oriented. The young gentleman that works there has great customer service as well!!

UPDATE 07/22/21:Closed Thursdays?! That was a wasted trip. You lose one star.Im relatively new to Indianapolis and was in need of a really good optometrist. Over the years, its been difficult to get the right fit for my contacts. I was very impressed with the two doctors Ive seen at Dr. Tavels. They understand the trouble I had with fit and, so far, have provided me with three different sample lenses in the attempt to find the brand that fits me best. I learned of Dr. Tavels when checking who my insurance covered. Ive been going to the location on 86th Street. Not only are the doctors impressive, the staff is friendly.

I would not recommend this place. When I first received my glasses I noticed I had been suffering severe eye strain and headaches. I called to advise them of the issue. First they told me I needed to “get used to it” after several calls they advised me to come back in. Come to find out, someone ordered the wrong lens. No problem, they ordered what was originally prescribed to me. Fast forward, I still was noticing my eyes always felt tired so I followed up with my prior optometrist and I was reevaluated. I was able to see the difference between what I needed and what Dr. Tavel’s optometrist prescribed. And let me say someone dropped the ball. My opinion is that Dr. Tavel’s team at this location is neglectful. And on top of that, they’re always trying to force you to buy higher end frames and don’t let you have a piece of mind while shopping from their already too small selection. Everyone has been cordial but I will never return and I will make sure I let everyone know of such a terrible experience. This is very distasteful.

I would definitely recommend this place to my friends. I previously had a terrible experience at a completely separate eye doctor, so I was nervous (I’ve never worn glasses or contacts). The girl that did my check in was very polite & helpful. I was a little early for my appointment & she let me know when exactly the doctor would be back without me even asking. She was nice & patient with me. Dr. Helderman was great! Answered all my questions & was very nice. The girl that helped me pick out my frames was awesome. I had not the slightest clue of what kind of glasses to even start trying on. She made suggestions, very personable, & I tried on probably 10-15 different pairs. I love the pair I finally decided on. I left very pleased! 😊

Instead of calling my insurance company to confirm what they were telling me, they told me what they wanted to tell me. Seems like the ladies at the front desk did not know what they were doing. I have never had this problem before. Always look over your itemized receipt, I am taking it up to corporate at this point.

Got new frames and lenses less than two months from the branch on 86th street. Lenses were shaking in the frame when I received them. Complained and was told with attitude that nothing could be done. I told them the frame wasnt of good quality and received a funny look. Now the frame arm has come off, went back and was told I had to buy another one. Again the customer service was poor. The frame didnt break, it came apart due to no fault of mine but the quality. Bad taste and experience.

Even though I was unable to make it to my appointment on time they were very understanding and helped fit me in to the schedule. Dr.Tavel is very knowledgeable. Great location and great people!

They were very fast and friendly from the time I called got a same day appointment friendly when I walked in the door for my appointment they answered all my questions and concerns about my vision and even when I picked out my frames. I will definitely continue to get all my vision needs here they were awesome and it wasnt very expensive and it took less than 2 weeks for my glasses to come back.

This store is beyond unprofessional, bounced my calls twice and had different people ask me the same questions and hold me for 30 minutes on hold, I just wanted to order new lenses because mine got scratched up. I ordered from a different store, 5 minutes of work wasted me an hour on call with this staff.

The employees were polite and accommodating due to the fact that I had my child with me. The only reason why they don’t get a full five is due to lack of communication between the office and whoever “makes” the glasses. I wanted a frame that came in two colors. I wanted color one but they only had color two in the office. They sent a request for color one and I waited for them. When they arrived they were the wrong color and it even said on the note that I wanted color one not color two. They were able to fix it that day but the employees had no idea as to why they (the makers) got it wrong.

My husband and I have been going to Dr Tavels for 3 years, our most recent experience was excellent. The staff are friendly and have been welling to assist us when we go in to the store. We are due for our contact exams this year and we will be returning to Dr. Tavels.

I really Really want to like Dr. Tavel the people are nice, they accommodate to my schedule and everything, But When it takes almost 3 weeks for my glasses to arive and then when I call up there to ask about them they say I dont know when theyre coming. Theres a problem.

This is an office of supportive staff which provides realistic consultation for patients. Jess and Karine are amazing and patient with everyone, including very informed to all questions. I recommend this office to anyone who needs a positive and supportive optometrist office.

I had the best personal service from this Eye Care Center. I have been getting my glasses here for several years now however this weeks visit was the best ever. They treated me with such care and paid me quality attention in my eye exam and choosing glasses.

The individuals who work there are very pleasant. It is refreshing and welcomed. Many businesses have very poor customer service so you appreciate those that do.

A few weeks ago, I went to this location to get a replacement pair of glasses for my son. I was told by insurance company that he would qualify for a free second pair since there were no upgrades being made. As soon as I get there, the staff tells me I needed to pay a $50 fee for a replacement pair?? What a way to scam and scare customers away. I left and went to a different Dr Tavel location where they were able to help me and didn’t have to pay a thing.

TARRA has been my savior at this office! Little did she realize I would soon become her regular customer....relying on her expertise to tweak & repair some old eye glass frames, and eventually find a new pair for my 89-year old mother who is not mobile & living in a nearby nursing home. TARRA has been an absolute delight...recognizing me every time I come in, and quick to help the minute I walk in. I thank Tarra (and Mahely, too), for the outstanding service I receive each and every time I am there. (THANK YOU, LADIES! Youve been a great help to my Mother!)

Sub-optimal experience for my visit here. My glasses werent right on the first try and I knew both single vision lenses needed to be remade. One was blurry all the time and the other seemed to have the center vision way off to the side (i.e. not in the center). Completely unwearable. Upon my return trip, I was scoffed at by the doctor for bringing them back without wearing them a week (like I was going to spend a week in clearly messed up glasses having headaches and not being able to see). Upon my re-check, the doctor discovered the issue with one lens and had the front desk crew check the center vision of the other lens. I was told one lens needed to be remade. I reminded them that they were supposed to read the prescription in the other lense to ensure it was correct. I was told it was correct but for some reason they were now remaking both lenses. This doesnt pass the smell test to me, but I cant give them lower than 3 stars since the new lenses are spot on, but the experience was far from perfect.

The physician Dr. Judy was excellent!!. The young gentleman who greeted me was wonderful!!! The young lady sitting at the reception desk was okay. The lady ( I think they called her Jess) who counsels on eyewear was seemingly not really interested in helping me. I felt a nonchalant and flippant vibe, and therefore was the final deciding factor for me getting the actual eyewear somewhere else. I didnt want to belabor her patience further. One of the main reasons that I chose this company was because of the reviews. Im a Pastor for 30 years and I guess I over-expected, or maybe I came on a day that she was under the weather or was going through something. The eyewear selection wasnt at all the best for my face, but I would have chosen one if I felt better about the ladys disposition. I pray all was okay with her.E. Decarius Spells, Ph.D

I’m a very laid back person, but the customer experience is horrible.I was treated like this was a free service and that they were doing me a favor. The doctor was very rude in explaining my prescription for my contact lenses. They also didn’t have my trail lenses in stock on 2 different occasions.

They are great at contacts but youd be better off getting glasses somewhere else. After four visits I gave up on them and went somewhere else. 4 stops... And they werent close.Again, good eye Doctors, good luck for glasses.

Friendly staff. Clean place. I always go here for my exams. Dont buy my glasses from here often because retail is very expensive but when I did get my first pair from them they work with me and allowed me to make partial payment. Their glasses do seem to be better quality than my internet glasses so I have gotten another pair after my recent visit. Still my go to place for exams.

The eye Dr was absolutely amazing, the office staff on the other hand was horrible. They were very rude and didnt help very much in us choosing or frames and rushed us through the process. Both me and my husband were told these are the frames your getting, and we ended up paying for paper weights. They dont fit properly at all, and after them messing up corrections on my childs glasses, I refuse to let them touch mine. Very disappointed in this office.
