Extremely knowledgeable about local conditions and bike set up. Makes you feel like a sponsored rider with a personal mechanic that takes as much time as needed with each customer.

Was recommended by a friend to check this place out after having unsuccessful work done at different shops in Kent and Bellevue. I brought my full suspension XC bike here for work twice. One of the times was a rebuild of the front and rear shocks. The other time was for repair of my rear hub. Adam, the owner and repair tech is very knowledgeable with his craft. Both repairs were done in FASTER times than I had smaller repairs done at other shops, and this was in the middle of mtb season during the Covid bike craze. I feel that both of the repairs were appropriately priced for parts and labor. I also very much appreciate that Adam schedules a day for you to bring in your bike before your repair so that you can keep riding it until he is ready for it, rather than most shops that will hold onto your bike for a few weeks before it even gets looked at. Very happy with my experiences at Downhill Zone, the bike is riding excellent, and I will continue to take my bike there.

I’ve been going to Adam for years now. VERY knowledgeable, professional, always explains everything in a way I can understand. Always suggests solutions/parts based on what the bike or I need/want. He will never suggest anything based on price tag! (Not the case with many other shops). He always gives options but I pretty much choose the option he suggests because I trust him. Adam built two bikes for me - DH bike and AM bike - dream “machines” to me. I get compliments on my bikes all the time. All his work is meticulously perfect to my liking.Thank you Adam for your honesty and exceptional knowledge! It’s very much appreciated!Renata

This place is awesome! Very knowledgeable and was very willing and happy to share the knowledge with me in a easy to understand way. He found problems with my bike that the last place that worked on missed or did poorly and fixed it for me.

The best bike mechanic I’ve come across. In fact I had just taken my bike to another well respected outfit for shock repairs. A month later it still wasn’t working just right. Dropped it off at Downhill Zone Issy. A week later the 10 year old bike has never been better. Like new. Very impressive.

Why do I not come in here more often!?!I just stayed half-an-hour past closing, chatting bikes with Adam and getting his opinion on a schmancy build Im putting together. He was fun to talk bikes with, and I couldnt help but notice that pretty much all the high-end parts Ive been painstakingly sourcing from a bunch of other shops were in stock, just sitting about the shop. Why didnt I come here first???Dont let the lack of a web presence put you off. Dude knows his stuff, and stocks a bunch of the best, ready to for pickup. Pick up the phone or make the trek out to Issaquah to support a rad little shop.Downhill Zone is my favorite dedicated mtb shop in WA. Id drive down from the border to hear Adams thoughts and be able to walk out same day with great, hard-to-find parts.

My two young’s boys and I went in the other day to take a look at some youth knee pads. The guy working there (I’m assuming he’s the owner) barely acknowledged us and when he finally did he was super short like we were inconveniencing him. When I told him we were looking for some youth knee pads he didn’t even bother walking out from behind his counter, he just pointed to the wall behind us, and said “they’re behind you”. We weren’t able to find knee pads that fit and we left with a mildly sour taste in our mouths due to the poor customer service.Fast forward a couple days and I needed to get what I imagine is basic maintenance on my sons bike (we are new to mtb). I was looking for a place, and Downhill Zone has a lot of good reviews. I decided to call and find out what kind of prices and timeframe I’d be looking at, and tried calling 3 times between noon and 3pm on a Saturday with no answer. I tried looking at his website but his website wasn’t working. Against my better judgement I decided to try Downhill Zone again thinking maybe he was just having a bad day. I walked in with my sons full suspension Commencal bike. Again the owner barely lifted his head to ask what I needed. When I explained that there some things that needed to be tuned up, he proceeded to tell me that he works on “professional bikes” and that he is really busy and is known throughout the area because of how good he is. He acted like I was again a major inconvenience to him. With a very short and snippy attitude, he explained how busy he is and that maybe he could get me in here or there but couldn’t guarantee anything. Just when I was about to turn around and leave he came out from behind the counter so that I could show him what I was needing to be worked on. Everything I explained he would just shortly throw out an answer like I was dumb for not knowing how to fix it. After his short and snippy explanation, I asked him about some new grips. I asked him what he preferred and he said “It doesn’t work like that. Everyone likes something different”. Obviously I get that everyone likes different things, I was just asking for your opinion. While the owner did come out for 5 minutes to see what I wanted fixed and explain how to possibly remedy them...every interaction I had with him was like I was wasting his time. I’m sure this guy is the best mechanic in the area(and he’ll likely tell you he is), he’s got the worst customer service attitude I’ve run into in a long time. I ended up buying a set of grips because I had a good selection to pick from but overall my experience in his shop over two different visits was terrible. I’m not sure what this guy is so angry about but it shows in his interactions with his customers. I’d give him 1 star but he managed to come out from behind the counter for a 5 minutes so I’ll give him and extra star for that.

I am new to downhill mountain biking-predominantly was a x-country rider. Went to discuss armor and protection and Adam, shop owner, was very gracious with his time and obviously very knowledgeable. With zero pressure, he guided me and gave me on all my options. He also spent another 30 minutes of his time on advice for a bike I purchased elsewhere on things to consider. He offer to help me set up suspension correctly and gave great suggestions for improving my experience at park riding. A customer who also was there was great too at helping, showing the camaraderie and mindset of the shop Adam has created . I will go back to Adam for his expertise and I highly encourage others to support the local shops and expertise like Adam adds to this sport. Great to know this expertise is in our backyard!

*Please read - Adam, the owner, personally saved my downhill race weekend. This is by far the best experience I have ever had with a bike shop. After destroying my crank arm during race practice I thought my weekend was over. Calling every shop within a 50 mile radius and not a single one had a new crankset in stock that would fit my bike. Adam offered to sell me the cranks off of his personal bike to save my race weekend. This speaks volumes about the kind of person that runs this business and the service you can expect from this shop. I am blown away at his generosity, knowledge, and kindness and so thankful that I was able to line up on Sunday. Dont think twice, bring your bikes, questions, and business to this shop.

The only guy (shop) in Seattle that will work on my bike as his own with care and detail and he actually knows his stuff. He is a non-captive parts dealer who can source and recommend the best components rather than being tied to a restrictive dealer contract. Go here for choice, better stuff and meticulous service.

I took my bike here for spring maintenance. First off, he took 8-9 more weeks then he originally stated it would take. It wasnt longer only because I had to call to get t no on and get updates. The first time it was due to be ready, I had to call him after two weeks because he doesnt well track his orders. He seems like a skilled guy, but he is overwhelmed and unorganized. He forgot many of the things I asked him to check and, as such, it broke down again on the first ride.Avoid until he gets more help and proves he can be organized. Had he accepted these faults when I approached him about it, I would been more accepting. Instead, he defended his delays and just had a mountain of excuses. Not very professional response! As a clarification, this service was done spring of 2015 and I repaired the gear sprocket and chain at Gerks. I did this as I needed whatever time left in the season to not be lost a second time. The rest of the work done on the bike was done right and well. I have no complaints about the quality of the workmanship, but the reliability and organizational aspects associated with his service. As I said before, he needs more help and needs to be more honest about his timelines. Then this could be a first rate shop

Ive been a Downhill Zone customer for 11 years now. I live in Sammamish and used to make the 20 mile trip to the University District just to have DHZ work on my bikes. Now that the shop is in my neighborhood i couldnt be happier.Adam the owner is meticulous when servicing my bikes. He is very knowledgeable on parts and components to help with my constant upgrades. He has never given me attitude for buying used frames that I bring in to have built up, only the feeling that he understands my needs and takes care of my bikes as if they were his own.I am always informed on the service time that will be required especially if parts need to be ordered.A huge thanks to the Downhill Zone for putting up with me and taking care of my rides.

I recently purchased a Chris King Bottom Bracket. I wanted the famous CK bearings for this years GDMBR. Last year my BB failed somewhere in CO, leaving me to have to walk 34 miles for a new one. Not only did Downhill Zone have several in stock, in addition to selling it to me, the owner popped the seals and filled it with fresh grease, explaining the disasebly and reasembly of the part as he worked. Parts may not last forever, but good working relationships can. This is a top notch bike shop. The Skinnyfish
