This is like an outdoor toy store for adults. Such a wide selection for your outdoor hunting, fishing, camping, apparel needs. We were fortunate enough to do a private archery lesson. Dave was awesome and so patient. Unfortunately he only works one day a week. So if you book a lesson its worth waiting for him. This lesson was for the kids but after taking a few shots myself I wanted to get a bow and take up the sport. And this place will satisfy you outdoor junkies. On top of it the staff were all super nice, personable, and helpful. This is the place to go stock up on supplies before you take on the outdoors like Dutch in Predator. Looks like the CIA has you pushing too many pencils Dylan!

Great camping store. Excellent selection and friendly staff. The knowledge is invaluable. Chris and Sam in camping and fishing clearly know their stuff and love what they do. Prices are higher a than what you can find online or in ID falls but that is expected around here. They will go the extra mile for you to help you get what you need to go where and do the things you want

While we were by ourselves looking at the fly rods in the back of this store we were approached by a little fellow with black curly hair and I was asked to pull my mask up above my nose. We told him we were going to leave instead to which he kept running his mouth and told us that would be great. As we were walking out he began clapping and laughing and kept running his mouth. What a terrible employee. Having a smart mouth employee with a large ego is not good for business. What a terrible experience this was. I hope you all deal with his arrogance accordingly.

I stopped in with some friends. They were looking for material to tie some flies. I didnt get his name, but a gentleman in the back was so helpful and willing to share any fishing tips.

A couple of months ago I decided to revisit this store after I had multiple terrible experiences upstairs when I first moved here. I quit going to this store altogether but decided to give them another shot. The current Manager and staff upstairs is so much better than the old staff from a few years ago. I see them treating customers with professionalism and they are very knowledgeable. The new staff is a welcome change!

Asked to look at a firearm and an associate asked me if I was going to pay for it. How am I supposed to know if I want it if I cant look at it? Just because Im part of the incoming generation does not mean I am ignorant about firearms.Besides the gun section of the store everything else was smooth and the other staff were appropriate

Really cool store for hunting and fishing needs. They have happy friendly staff who are very helpful with answering questions and getting the things you need.

They have a good fly selection and knowledgeable staff, their ammo is a little expensive however they have a really nice selection. They are kind of a One-Stop shop for any outdoor activity that you want to do while youre in the Jackson hole area. From boots to hat they can get you ready for whatever the area has to offer.

Great clothing, and as other have said, surprisingly low prices for being in the middle of Jackson. Picked up some base layers for my wife and I, but they had solid fly fishing and hiking gear. Very friendly staff!

Very knowledgeable and pleasant. I had a small issue with some boots I purchased. I had not worn them outside, only in our hotel room. Exchanged with no issue. I would happily do business with them again!

Booked a half day guided fly fishing trip for myself and my 14 year old son. Even though it was my sons first time with a fly rod, our guide, Steve, put us on fish and my son land two beautiful cutties. Everything was smooth and efficient - from the initial booking all the way through.

Went fly fishing with JD High Country for half the day. The guide, Aaron, was great and knowledgeable. I was a beginner at fly fishing and he was great explaining and teaching me how to fly fish.

Very helpful staff! Really large selection of clothing, provided ideas of where to fish, and picked out the flies I needed for the area. Even my non-fishing family enjoyed the store.

Went in today to ask a couple of questions about setting up my fly reel (beginner here), and Ken took a ton of time to walk me through the setup, different gear recommendations, flies to use, places to go and different books to check out. HIGHLY recommend checking this place out if you are in town.

High Country Outfitters is a phenomenal store. There is not one piece of gear in there that is not made with extreme high quality. The store itself is well planned and always impeccably clean and in perfect order.My personal experience with High Country Outfitters is upstairs in the gun shop. I recently purchased a 9mm Glock 26, custom painted in Tiffany Blue. I was warned many times about coyoyes and snakes and my dogs, in Arizona and advised that I get myself a small weapon.So, I did. I bought it from TZ Armory online and had it transferred the HCO. The guys upstairs couldnt have been nicer and more accommodating through this whole, first time, process with me.I love this store and the overall vibe. Not once have I ever been treated with poor customer service. Two thumbs up/5☆

I booked a fly fishing trip on the Green River with this outfit for me and my 13 year old daughter. Our guide was Harrison. From start to finish it was an outstanding day. The check-in at the store was quick and efficient. The staff was professional, friendly and encouraging. Harrison is an excellent fishing guide - knowledgeable, attentive, patient and easy to spend time with. He knows the river and knows how to catch fish. I have fished all my life but this was my first day with a fly rod - Harrison was a first-rate instructor. I was especially appreciative of how well he watched out for my daughter, offering constructive help and advice from the beginning of the day until the end and transitioning her to different equipment as conditions required. She is no stranger to fishing and the outdoors (it was her idea to do this trip), but this was her first foray into this kind of fishing and being on the drift boat. She caught 8 fish to my 2. I cant say enough good things about it... Im very happy with our entire experience and will be back again next year for sure...

Two older gentleman working the fly shop were of immense help, very patient with all their customers, provided valuable intel. Will definitely be back my next time though Jackson.

What a bummer. A customer for many years to this shop, and a fellow fly shop, todays customer service at check out was so incredibly horrible. The female that helped my family and I couldnt have been ruder. Yikes JD might wanna chat to her about her attitude problem.

What a great store!! My husband and I were planning a long hike to Lake Solitude and stopped into JD’s to look at some of the gear. There was a very helpful employee, Chris, who fitted me with a new pack. He gave us great advice on which trails to take and what equipment we needed. He also showed us how to use bear mace and what to do if we encountered a bear. The advice came in very handy as we came within 25 feet of a black bear on our hike. I’m so grateful for his help and advice. The pack was perfect as my shoulders are not sore at all. I highly recommend JDs. Thank-you Chris and Riley!!

Exceptional inventory of hunting, fishing and camping equipment. If you left something behind this is where you will find it. Highly recommend.

The majority of the staff at this store were very nice and very helpful however the older gentleman (I presume was either a manager or owner) was incredibly impatient with us when we asked to split the ticket (this probably added on only 30 additional seconds to his time spent with us as we discussed how much money we were putting on each of our cards.) His exact comment to us (in an impatient voice) was “Come on, there’s too many Indians and not enough chiefs.”After that we were waiting for a few fishing licenses when he freaked out on his staff. He had already directed one of his employees to cover the floor and help other employees (in also a very impatient manner) but decided that when it was a little too busy he needed to yell out in front of customers “God damnit, I need more people over here.” He had another employee help us with a fishing license but then changed his mind I guess and physically put his hands on his shoulders and pushed him to the side to finish it instead of just telling him that he would complete it. Very disappointing to see people treated in that manner.

Went in to browse the gun selection, ended up going in the next day and bought a Daniel Defense rifle. The employee who was working (Kris) was easy going and helped me get a sweet deal on it. I felt great after buying it, and especially after shooting it, it truly is a fantastic rifle! Ill definitely stop by the shop again the next time I am in Jackson.

Cool selection and decent prices. Great fishing department.Why two stars? Some big dude in the fishing section was flat-out arguing with a coworker and pointing his finger in the dudes face saying something about it being HIS job and then the big dude went in back and was still talking very loudly about it not being his job to do whatever and was banging stuff around. He came out a moment later all red-faced, said some hot-headed low-tone words to the other employee and then tried dealing with a customer. Very off-putting. I put down the things I was going to purchase, turned around and walked out. That guy needs to understand that unless hes the owner, everything hes told to do is his job. And guess what - as a business owner myself, EVERYTHING is my job.Ditch that big dude with the beard and bad attitude before he causes you problems.

High Country Outfitters is the go-to store for all outdoor activity needs, from a legendary fly-fishing staff, to excellent hunting and camping departments, to your basics for clothing, and some very unique. Knowledgeable staff and a hub for guides, its a must when you are preparing to explore and immerse in the surrounding Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Bridger-Teton areas. Highly recommend.

I did not end up spending much time in this store. Upon entering I saw a group of three employees standing by the cash register, they were talking very loudly about some customer who had, apparently, asked a very dumb question and all three were mocking said customer. Now, I am not naive enough to think this customer was completely innocent, it probably was something very simple that they should have already known the answer, but to have employees standing around openly mocking customers is not something I can support.

Good store. Buy lots of outdoor gear here. Recently just compound bow there. Wanted to buy local to have knowledgeable staff on hand to help me as I learned and work on my bow as issues arrised. Went in the next week to get some stuff done and found out the entire archery department quit! No one to help me now and wish I wouldve bought my bow someplace else.

This place is awesome!!! Whether it be tuning up my bow, finding a good running shoe or getting the perfect fit in my ski boots....these guys do it well. The staff is dependable, attentive, interactive and always there to help you get into your next adventure. JD Highcountry is a must stop if you’re in the Jackson area!!

I have had a horrible experience with this shop, both with incompetence and basic customer service. I tried to ship my rifle to the shop, and had the tracking number saying that it had arrived at their post office box. I called and/or went into the shop in person that first day, and multiple days after to try to get them to take action and work with the post office to get my firearm, but they kept telling me that until they get a package slip, there was nothing they could do. The rifle sat at the post office and was sent back after 6 days. One employee told me that this issue has happened several times previously, and that they just needed to talk to the post office to make sure the USPS wouldnt send it back. They failed to do this even after multiple requests. Throughout all of this, multiple people failed to pass on communication to the employees on the next shift, as well as get back to me to update me. In the end, the manager blamed both me and the post office, was rude and did nothing to help make up for the loss of money and time because of their laziness and negligence.Ive lived in this town for more than 15 years, and I agree that the post office protocol is different than most other towns in the US, but it I have never had any problems getting my package if I have a tracking number saying it has arrived.Im not someone that normally writes these kind of reviews (good or bad), but feel like because they can just suck tourists in and make lots of money off of them, they dont have to actually be competent or treat their customers well.If you are looking for general camping/outdoor clothing or gear, go to Teton Mountaineering or Skinny Skis - they both have wonderful employees that will be helpful. If you are looking for fishing gear, there are several other shops in town that will have similar selection and prices. Unfortunately, there arent many other hunting-related shops left in town, but at this point, I think itd be worth the trip to Star Valley (Alpine or Afton Wy) or Victor/Driggs Idaho to find a shop that would be worthy of your business.
