Local cafe and bakery. Staff are incredibly friendly and everything Ive tried is delicious. The best part is that their prices are, at least compared to other similar places, very fair and cheaper considering the quality and portion sizes. Seating and parking can be tight, but its well worth any potential hassle for the quality and service youll receive.
Good feels place, I missed going here since moving and while visiting today I heard fourth coast is changing tea providers! I like to put in a vote with the barista on who to switch to. Tudor tea house (now in Paw Paw). thanks for all the vegan scones! Jalapeno cheddar is the best
I’ve never liked the vibes inside 4th coast, even before the mass firings. Coffee is fine. Great place if you love waiting in line while music that is slightly too loud plays. I think I’ve only seen one nice barista and I haven’t seen him there in forever.
Rude owner, the way they treat members of our community is a shame to the origin of the cafe. I used to go here every day and I should have stopped for good when they fired all their employees. They dont care about community. They care about profits.
Absolutely disgusting did not best food kitchen was atrocious how the health department has not shut them down is a miracle.dont be fooled the baked goods look appealing but are prepared in sub human environment
Yummy coffee. Great vibe.
The coffee is good- great actually. The worst part - as it has been for years - is the penchant for the baristas to play the loudest, most unfriendly music ever; metal in its various forms. Is it because you don’t want people to stay for long? It’s working! Here’s a hint: jazz, Latin, r&b, “adult contemporary” or even pop music or michael buble would be preferable at this point.
It was the best coffee house in the 90s when it used to be 24 hours. They still have the best coffee and biscottis in the city of Downtown Kalamaxoo!
Cute study spot but can be noisy on weekends because it’s so busy at crows nest.
Ordered a chocolate + cherry late with almond milk. I ended up adding more sugar to the latte. (Maybe thats just because I am so used to Biggbys insane amount of sugar content.) The atmosphere is welcoming and the barista was cheerful and a good multitasker. Cute hand painted signs tell you everything. Nice decorative touch.
Not acknowledged at counter. Several people in line behind us. Way too hungry to wait for someone to look at us. We left
I was an extremely loyal customer for years and years to this establishment, and I will never be returning due to the abhorrent way that they have treated their staff. It has been going downhill ever since they got new management, but this is the final straw. Take your business to one of the other many local coffee places downtown. The coffee was never very good here anyway.
Lots of table & bar seating, free wifi, wonderful art (current installation by Jamie Whitledge is amazing) and interesting blends, including the Cosmic Cocoa (a golden milk drink with cocoa powder) & Witches Brew (pictured here), a blend of chai & cider. Lots of pastry options & the restaurant upstairs, Crows Nest, is happy to bring your order downstairs. The only negative, for me, is the alternative milk options were really pricey ($1 for oat milk or almond milk).
The 90s were amazing at the 4th. It was a safe place for the outcasts. We had community. As it has become more upscale (for lack of a better word) it lost a lot of what made it special. The behavior exhibited recently is just the last blow. Firing basically the entire staff at the start of the pandemic with no intention of hiring them back? Not ok. When desperate Im told some were brought back. Ill take my memories and my money elsewhere.
Great, friendly, quick service, with delicious tea and INCREDIBLE vegan brownies and energy bars in a lovely, cozy setting (the art of for sale, too!).
Good food and service
Fourth Coast used to be The Place for the rebels, goth, punk, and other unique people of my youth. Its energy was dark and a little dangerous, though always ultimately safe. Going in now is a weird reminder that we all grew up. You can see the eccentric roots, but the coffee shop now has a more broad, if slightly generic, appeal. Its nice enough, but I only go as a waiting spit for The Crows Nest. It doesnt have anything which makes it stand out anymore.
Great food, and even better staff.
Awesome little quaint place to go get a coffee especially if you’re getting a breakfast or lunch upstairs, it’s the perfect way to kick off and start your morning and it’s also the perfect thing to have if your name is on the waiting list for Crows Nest! Perfect marketing, who wouldn’t want an awesome brewed creation while they wait! Bravo!
LOVED the vegan bakery options...the strawberry/rhubarb pie was yummy and the oatmeal cookie was great!!Disappointed in the waitstaff.....while the young lady was helpful at first, then she became pushy and doubted that my daughter knew what she wanted.....(she was having flavor added to her coke)....we love to try new things and I encourage my daughter to really stretch her tastebuds....she loved her soda and was glad she didnt change her mind😊Thank you, for your helpfulness....just a touch of encouragement wouldve made our experience MUCH better💃🕺💃🤙🤙😊
Not only did they fire their staff via email, they tried to back pedal once the email went viral. And once that backfired, they deleted all evidence on their social media as if it never happened. Their business thrived off of their good customer service, but yet they decided to not only fire them all, but decided to do it via email. How incredibly unprofessional.
Great drinks, great food and a great atmosphere. I highly recommend anything with espresso in it and any or all of the baked goods. Lots of friendly employees as well. The restaurant upstairs is just as wonderful!
Great little local coffee shop, always fast service, with an excellent atmosphere! Great place to study, or hangout with friends. Also if you are looking for people who know what is happening in the area, this is the place to go! All local workers create a great place to relax, unwind, and learn the tea of kalamazoo *also they have tea ;)
Went at 10:00 pm to relax and recenter. First time there. Had an iced latte 2 shots of espresso with toffee and caramel flavor, was recommended oat milk over almond. It was fantastic. Im a picky girl, a conneseur of iced drinks. I had it with a brownie, read my book, and had philosophical conversations with strangers until 12:45. 10/10 would do again.
Depending on your idea of a good coffee shop atmosphere, this could be a 5 star or a 2 star place. The upsides are their coffee and pastries - excellent! As for atmosphere, they dont have a ton of seating, they play super loud, distracting alt rock pop music. I couldnt even drown it out with earphones and my own loud music playing. So I left (after the great coffee, of course!). All in all, seems like its great for a good hang out, not for study.
Fourth Coast is a staple in Kalamazoo. Their Fourth Roast is always fresh and my favorite house blend in town. Baked goods are delicious and vegan friendly. Baristas are swift, friendly and professional (with great playlists to boot). Great spot to run in quick or sit down and study.
Nice little coffee shop. Had a good latte. Not much in the way of breakfast foods, but definitely worth stopping here for a morning pick me up!
I love the atmosphere! The coffee is always good. The baked goods are also amazing. You can also order food from Crows Nest upstairs and eat it while studying.
Awful service. Went in to order drinks with my partner. They took her order and while I was standing there, card in hand clearly ready to say something the two baristas just talked to eachother and completely ignored me for a solid two minutes. Ive never been somewhere that completely ignores customers like that. Contributed heavily to the stuck-up vibe the place seems to have. Coffee was fine tasting, iced drinks are served in paper cups. I get not using plastic but would be nice to have a lid with wider mouth hole so it doesnt get clogged by the ice cubes.
This is a great little spot that you will fond me doing my homework in some late night, drinking espresso to stay alive. The staff is always friendly. I love their tea selection (great jasmine) and that lemon cardamom biscotti
Menu is affordable and its always great service. Laid back atmosphere and as long as you buy something theyll let you hangout as long as you want, even if you finished your coffee forever ago. Got free wifi. Pretty popular place
This was a staple for me in high school. Loved the grunge scene. Now it is a little more of a Seattle vibe. Serving Vegan pastries. But the frozen mocha is still my favorite.
Best cozy cafe in the area. The fact that its 24/7 makes it a phenomenal place for college kids to study. Very friendly and sage atmosphere. Amazing coffee. Ive been many times at 4am and studied my brains out. Well be back soon come finals :)
This is my favorite place to go in Kalamazoo for a cup of coffee. The staff is friendly, the food is great and they really know how to treat their customers right. Kalamazoo isn’t Kalamazoo without Fourth Coast!!
Local coffee shop with helpful staff and a good selection of coffee drinks and pastries. You gotta try the zucchini bread and the Russian tea! Eco friendly, they give you glass mugs if youre sticking around. Free WiFi, good place to get some work done.
Almost a hipster place but the vibe is a little more depressing than that. Mostly its fun of people waiting for a table next door. Coffee is good, baked goods are high quality. Im not excited to go back
Food, atmosphere, and staff were exceptional! This is a Must destination in Kalamazoo, you will not be disappointed! I ordered the Steak & Eggs - just perfect, but there was plenty of cuisine variety to choose off of the menu. Veg, Vegan, and GF friendly!
Always a nice place to enjoy a cup of whatever I am drinking at the time. A good place for ideas and plain ole thought to be comfortable and unhindered. Also they are fair to all, and keep it clean.
The coffee here is awesome!! It might actually be the best Ive ever had... The crowd can be quite unusual, but it makes for good people watching for sure. Dont come expecting Starbucks- you should just go there if thats what youre looking for. If you want a super authentic local neighborhood cafe, then this is the spot.
Some vegan pastries and many other non-vegan foods. Plant based milk options and many different flavor choices for lattes. They have local owned kombucha available as well. Most the staff is very kind although the place can be busy and stressful for them Im sure. Very popular place for college kids but also accommodating to families with kids. I lived the cinnamon-hazelnut latte, but my partner wasnt thrilled with his chai. Overall great place
I was actually at crows nest, and I tried the Royale burger and it was really good! As in why are you not going there to try it right now good?!
Dynamic staff, delicious coffee and Specialty drinks. Visitors and locals know this is a Kalamazoo staple. The baked goods are outstanding, the music is usually really good, plenty of seats for lots of people, plenty of quiet if thats what youre looking for, too. Centrally located in the student ghetto. I know Vine neighborhood, but itll always be the student ghetto to me.
The Fourth Coast is our round-the-corner coffee joint. Always open, coffee according to personal needs, good rye bread, and friendly baristas. Tacky decor. It can be a good place for a meeting or just to hang around; however, it takes in the people queuing for the popular Crows Nest on the second floor, so sometimes it is difficult to find a place to sit down. Bummer!
I love Fourth Coast Cafe, open all day - forever! There is always a diverse crowd and they maintain a no rush atmosphere, ensuring everyone enjoys their time here. Small snugs give a great view of the street without being closed off. You will usually meet some interesting people here.
One of the best coffee shops in Kalamazoo! Try the 4th roast! Still very reasonably priced after all these years.
Ive been going to Fourth Coast for around 25 years and I have never been disappointed, its a part of Kalamazoo. Try the mocha shake, it is awesome!
I stock up on their coffee beans and grab a loaf of banana bread whenever Im in town, love this cafe.
Alot of youngsters working here. But with ever school semester change, so does the workers here. Great food upstairs at the crows nest. Plus a bakery is attached to the coffee shop. Great breads and muffins eat. Great place for the college crowd to study. The parking lot has alot of homeless and begged, panhandling. Plus almost all the people here are snobbish, like the patrons owe them something.
Coffee is good. Place is chill. A tad on the small side, so no large groups.Hours are great. Get trashed downtown and get a pick me up on the way back.
First time going there. Nice place and good food. The banana nut French toast is delicious.
Never had anything bad at Fourth Coast. In fact, there coffee is so good, I used to walk to work nearby, every day and get a bagel across the alley, and then go to Fourth Coast to pair it with better coffee.
Ive been coming to fourth coast for years, since theyve changed there menu I havent really associated much but tonight when I went in I ordered an overboard in chocolate and a girl who works there wasnt sure what that was and the guy that was originally helping me and the little group I was with had explained that it was a really old drink and he would be delighted to make it for me. That made my entire night and I think fourth coast should advertise some of there old menu as specials for the week for long Time customers. Just an idea. Still love the atmosphere and I see there is still a friendly staff.
Fastest Togo in Kalamazoo!!! Best people you could ever imagine, truly a pleasure.
Cozy coffee shop popular with the local college students for a quiet space to have coffee, delicious baked goods, including vegan and gluten free, and do some homework. Great selection of tea mixes, created right there in house.
This has been my watering whole for years. I think they have the best coffee in Kalamazoo and they are open 24 hours. The staff is fun and conscientious and you can order excellent food from the crows nest and have it delivered down stairs. Excellent menus of coffee drinks, ice cream shakes, sodas, pastries and the list goes on.
Its the best place go to have breakfast, lunch, dinner, and people can go in there just to talk, study, and you are even aloud to bring a computer in to study!
Not sure what happened to this place, the employee at the counter was rude and obnoxious
Great vibes during the week. Beware it is very loud in here during the weekends as it becomes a waiting room for Crows Nest upstairs. Good service.
Have been going here for years. One of my favorite cafes in the world. ❤
Good stuff. 24hr. However, MUSIC is blasting way too LOUD! Maybe it makes it more exciting for employees to work there but definitely not for patrons to study. Someone there should take note of this...
Its a really comfy place to study. The muffins are delicious. Mornings are best for that. The place can be a little crowded at other times, but I cant knock it for being popular!
This is a good coffee shop. Kind of pricey, but good quality and tasty bakery goods.
Staff are friendly and welcoming even early in the morning. Espresso is rich and not at all bitter. I went for a triple shot mocha and it wasnt overly sweet, which for me is spot on perfection. Currently headed upstairs for an egg scramble.
Cold brew was great. Not too bitter, which is something that I generally find with cold brews. Cute environment, according to my girlfriend. Very chill inside the shop. A large number of plugs and the internet was snappy once we snagged the password. We sat in a large booth area and got some morning work done. Pretty easy place to be productive.
Coffee was great, the workers were awesome. I even got a smile from a gorgeous coo .
A magical coffee shop I have been in love with since 1993. I cant say enough about this place. So many memories.
Been coming here for like a decade. PERFECT place to sit and do work.
Quality coffee and atmosphere, with a good selection of drinks and snacks. One thing I would like to see is outdoor seating since the inside is noisy and people seem to always be hovering around outside entrances with no where to sit down. The baristas are always on their feet and work at late hours - so I would urge anyone with an extra $ to tip them generously :)
This is my favorite coffee shop. It has lost much of its charm as they sold out the homeless and less fortunate. They used to be open 24 hours and acted as a buffer against the elements for Kalamazoo’s less fortunate. People gave way to profits. They have excellent baked goods and beverages. I appreciate 4th coast but they lost some of their charm when they sold out the less fortunate!
No matter where I live, I consider this my hometown coffee shop. Nice place to hangout for hours. Awesome staff. Great regular coffee.
I liked the vibe of this place. Good atmosphere, late hours make it great for late evening coffee stops, and the coffee itself was really good. I liked it a lot
Excellent menu, good prices, generous portions, great staff, lovely atmosphere, ummmm bakery on ground floor, restaurant is located upstairs.... Theyd probably accommodate/serve food downstairs if needed (handicap)... Maybe call 1st?
Love the atmosphere here. Great music, great coffee. Also Crows Nest has the best food. Definitely worth coming too.
Very chill, welcoming spot with good coffee and vegan pastry options
I used to spend every night here in my early twenties playing spades, and now Im in my late thirties and stopping almost every morning on my way to work! Top three coffee places in town include Forth Coast in my book.
Banana bread is dark, nutty and delicious. Sea salt focaccia bread makes great toast. The chocolate espresso beans are so rich and flavorful.
It looks like an upscale bakery, but the little cheap paper bags at the end spoils it.
This is the best coffee in kalamazoo and is a local destination. The staff are knowledgable and friendly. The interior is always clean and beautiful, full of local art.
This place has been my favourite spot in kalamazoo for years. A great place to relax at any time of day
Got caught in an overnight layover on my bus trip in Kalamazoo, and this place was exactly what I needed to stay awake during my layover. Great barista, great coffee, great espresso, great musical selections, and great service. Next time Im passing through Kalamazoo Ill make sure to spare some time to stop back again.
Lol I always have asked them to change their name to Fifth Coast because I think that it would make a little more sense because Michigan has Five Great Lakes, and not just four. So when someone says that they want to go to “Fourth Coast Café” I say, “No, you mean Fifth Coast Café”. But either way that Café has great Coffee as well as food!
Second only to water street, one of the best coffee shops in the city. expect a wait on saturdays and sundays, but i think that speaks to the quality. baristas are kind, theres usually good music playing, and its a good place to work or catch up with friends
Im such a regular here. Cant go wrong with any of their drinks. Love the atmosphere, love the culture, lovely staff too
Awesome and open late! The honey latte iced is so good.
Eclectic little coffee house/bakery with an artistic vibe. They won my heart by having coconut milk available 😍😍😍
Not as good as I was during my teen years. Was harassed out side multiple times by tweekers. Love the coffeeeee but dont like the surroundings
They have good service and there cubed potatoes are awesome
I really love this coffee shop. It has atmosphere, pokemon go stops and a gym, FANTASTIC bakery which I think gets over looked. Their muffins/breads and snacks made on site are wonderful. The coffee is great, and espresso drinks on point. Not sure Id bring in my great grandma. Not too spacious and the people frequenting the place vary immensely with day/time/wind direction. However - I stop any time I am driving by for something. I would suggest they offer a few other types of drinks for non-coffee/tea drinkers for convenience. But theres a place adjacent with soda if you need it.
Great place to study or to have a convo over coffee, tea and the like. Lots of character and characters. Parking can be limited and all the prime seating (window seats) is usually taken unfortunately. WiFi available. Crows Nest is just upstairs if you get a hunter that cant satisfied with the usual cafe fare.
Loved it here! From key West but will look for this place on my next visit!
The coffee is always fresh and the bread is to die for.
I love the vibe of this cute coffee shop! Thanks for the vegan treats!
Great food, amazing service! The location had a fun atmosphere with interesting artwork.
The owner is rude to his staff and fired every single one of them during a pandemic and told them he would be rehiring new staff and not inviting them back. For the record, as a once regulae, his staff was great and he has no clue what he just lost for himself.
Outstanding muffins, great coffee
