Amazing coffee, amazing food, and a wonderful place to visit. The coffee here, their specialty, is incredible. Although it may take a bit to get your coffee, its well worth the wait once you take a sip. This is due to the method they use, drip coffee, but is definitely a huge reason why the coffee is delicious.Although not a food place, their breakfast food is amazing along with some pastries they sometimes offer. It should be noted, they only offer breakfast on the weekends [along with Friday], so dont expect to come on a Wednesday and get breakfast. One should also keep in mind, some weekends are especially busy, so service may be a bit slow, but once you place your order itll be served in no time. The ambiance is very unique and I love it. Hard to describe without actually stepping foot into the cafe, so you should definitely visit!Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting downtown Kalamazoo and loves coffee.

This is an awesome local business in downtown Kalamazoo. It is located in an old historic brick building. Exposed tin panel ceilings, old school wood benches, tables, chairs and bar add character. Coffee is roasted on site by Kalamazoo Coffee Company. The menu contains locally sourced natural and organic offerings. This is an awesome place to visit for a nitro cold brew or a great breakfast. If you are in Kalamazoo this is a great place to start your support local initiative.

The building looked abandoned at first glance, but its a very rustic/hipster feel inside. Its a rather small space, and you order at the bar. I love this place! I like that its tucked away from the city bustle. The atmosphere gives laid back, comfortable vibe and the staff is always friendly. My usual go to is a Cafe Miel and the Kurt Brussel. This place is also the home of Kalamazoo Coffee Company and you can buy one pound bags of ground or whole bean coffee at this location. I like this because it takes the middle man out of sales so all profits go straight back to the business. This is the place where I take my friends when they visit. The food was OK (very salty) but we waited over 60 minutes and in my opinion no food is worth that long of a wait especially when I am paying. Families that came in after us, received their food before us. When they finally did bring our food they said it took so long because they had run out of ingredients and had to make more. Which is fine but they didnt update us once about that or seem apologetic that we had to wait.Additionally, they are running a free coffee promotion at the moment, no one seemed to know how to handle it and we still got charged for the coffee. We paid before our meal so I gave a decent size tip, had I know we were going to run into so many problems I would not have given 20%. The atmosphere was very dark and there were flies inside, overall I didnt get a welcoming feeling from the staff or the atmosphere.

Wish I wouldve tried this place before now...the best caramel latte Ive ever had. Cheaper than other local and chain coffee shops! The coffee beans are roasted in house! Super reasonable prices for such high quality. Ive had their pancakes (with bits if sausage and bacon inside!) and a classic-style breakfast and both were something I would get again. Vegan options. Its small but the asthetic is so original! You open the door and feel like youve entered a different time period, its almost creepy but in a very cool way. It can fill up quick but Ive been lucky enough to beat the crowd every time ☺️ When it finally warms up, theres more seating outside.

One of the top three coffee stops in Kalamazoo. Top tier, locally roasted coffee. Knowledgeable and friendly baristas and great food options. The dining area is very comfortable in his rustic decor. Excellent place to get some work done or for meeting with others. Until they are able to complete the upstairs area, the seating is sometimes insufficient. I ordered the huevos rancheros, my over medium eggs came out a few minutes past over hard. The tortillas were burnt and there were peppers in the black beans, peppers were not listed on the menu. Salsa was on the menu, unfortunately it didnt come on my plate. The potatoes were okay, but almost too spicy for the morning. The best part of my breakfast was the four blueberries thrown on the side of my plate. To top it off nobody came in checked on us after bringing us our food. As a connoisseur of local coffee shops and breakfast spots I was severely let down by Black Owl. The look and feel of the cafe is great, but it only seats 15 and has one waitress.. So while we really wanted to try to the food, no tables were available even after waiting 20 minutes for our 2 lattes.
