Kayaking was fine but have low expectations. We saw a bird or two and upside down jelly fish but no other wildlife. Our guide (Mike) was nice but not very dynamic and didnt engage with us much, nor did he educate us. They gave us popcicles and chocolate covered bananas at the end, which was a nice touch.If we were to go again, wed just go on our own. The one thing he did tell us was they give you a map of the mangrove canals when you rent kayaks at the state park and they are easy to navigate. There were signs all over the place so.

Kayak tour through the mangroves….do it!!! With the help of our guide, we spotted more than 10 parrot fish, a barracuda, a HUGE RAY, several other fish AND we were able to PICK UP A JELLYFISH!!! You can rent just a kayak, but for real…get the tour. It’s totally worth it! They also supply water and snacks-they take good care of you. Our guide was a hoot which made it that much more fun. This was an incredible experience during our visit to the keys. I don’t think we would have found even half of the things we did without the guide (and we probably would have gotten lost 🤣) Also!! Before you go, take a pair of polarized sunglasses or buy a pair from their shop. They carry a cute brand called Goodr that are really inexpensive and of great quality (and cute! Ladies I have yet to find a pair of polarized glasses that aren’t hideous on me until these-so many cute patterns-AND you get 10% off when you book a tour through them). You can see through the water so much better with these. This was absolutely a big highlight of our amazing Keys vacay!! ❤️

WOW! This was one of our favorite things we did on our vacation. We hired a guide and my husband and I both shared a tandem kayak. Such a great time, great duration (didnt feel pressured or like it was too slow - just right!), and very friendly and knowledgeable people. We ended up seeing a few stingrays, jellyfish and various different types of fish. It was neat to learn about the mangroves too. Water and treats were provided at the end too which was a nice touch. My husband and I were the only two on the tour with two guides (I believe one was learning) and had someone transport us to the park and back from the park. I think the entire experience was maybe around three hours or so with two hours in the water. If youre visiting the area, highly recommend renting from them/hiring a guide. We were debating about renting but really didnt know what to look for or where to go. THANK YOU

This is THE place to rent kayaks. We used the hobie kayaks for the first time and I loved them. The staff was very helpful in teaching us about using the hobies and getting us into the water. And they have an amazing gift shop with great souvenirs. We will come again for sure!

Florida Bay Outfitters is an amazing adventure company with 5 star customer service and equipment. The owner and staff were very helpful and ready to share advice with me. My adventurous Portuguese Water Dog Fisher joined my for a week of stand up paddle (SUP) boarding at various locations around Key Largo. This a dog friendly business, so recommend bringing your well behaved dog for a paddle! You can launch directly from the Outfitters location or other locations they have identified on their custom padding map. Our favorite was John Pennekamp State Park where wildlife is abundant and there are narrow channels through the Mangrove forests. These guys have been in business for 29 years so they know what theyre doing and you can trust them 100%! Were looking forward to some kayaking with them this week as well. As a Colorado based professional guide and outfitter myself, I highly recommend Florida Bay Outfitters!

This is the only place I know of that you can rent a Hobie Pro Angler 12 or 14. Great customer service and I use them every time Im visiting Miami. This Hobie was great in the flats around the 10,000 Islands. Thank you!

My husband and I recently bought 2 kayaks from Florida Bay. This was a drawn out process because I could not make up my mind on which great kayak I wanted. This wonderful shop allows you to try out each kayak that you are interested in buying. The store owner and staff realized it was a big purchase for us and did not rush us and let us try them 2 different days.We went back a week later (after checking out competitors and doing product research) and bought our kayaks.This shop has a launch site out back and allows people to launch there when you have bought a boat there. I believe there is a fee if you have not bought a boat there (not sure).I have visited the launch a few times by myself and the staff have helped me load and unload my kayak (it is heavy and I am small).I would give the owner, staff, and selection 100 stars if I could . I have nothing bad to say.This store is located at the beginning of the keys drive. Buy a kayak here and explore the keys as you go. Please support this smallish business and the wonderful staff. There are large chain competitors but you will not get the same selection or customer care and service.Thank you Florida Bay Outfitters for making my winter in Florida better then I could have imagined.

The store has a wide selection of gear with fashionable women’s clothing ! I am an adaptive kayaker and Chase and Craig were helpful and welcoming. I look forward to doing a guided kayak trip in the near future.

I havr wanted to kayak tour Key West for years and wanted to bring my chill dog who has zero kayaking experience. Megan at Florida Bay Outfitters was enthusiastic, understanding, and supportive. Even before the tour they pulled a kayak to see how my dog would fit, and if shed get in. Turned out fantastic, dog did fall in once but I had a life vest in her and pulled her right back on. Fantastic kayak tour of the mangroves and sightings of needle fish, parrot fish, box fish, snapper, grunts, a black with red head bird, upside down jellyfish and amazing mangrove tunnels.

They were great to work with and had multiple choices for me. Rented a Hobie fishing yak for the week. Great experience!

They are the affordable, efficient, accommodating, and helpful. They had a large selection of kayaks to rent. Very knowledgeable staff. As we launched our kayaks (right there at the shop!) they explained how everything worked and we felt comfortable using the equipment. We had an amazing time paddling around the keys and would use this company again in a heartbeat. Very quintessential shop!

Everyone from FBO was so friendly and good to us. My wife and I (and another family) did a guided kayak tour of the mangroves with Jen. Jen is an amazing tour guide, very knowledgeable and made us newbies feel very safe. One of us fell off the kayak (a common fear for those new to kayaking) and Jen confidently coached and assisted them back on, like no big deal. She brought us both through some beautiful mangrove tunnels and out on open water to spot some wildlife. We had a whole adventure in 2 hours!

Plus, great clothing, outdoor gear and even spices and hot sauce. Prices are medium to high but its mainly because the brands are high end. Well worth the visit. Nothing else like it in Key Largo

What a great place and location. Only about 45ish minutes from the Kendall area of Miami. Their store has an amazing selection of gear and stuff to buy. I had called a couple times to ask questions and spoke to Trevor I believe, very polite. They do not seem to answer email or social messaging, fyi... but hey its an outdoors place! The rental pricing was great. We were set off and given instructions by John, he was patient and had a great attitude. We kayaked/sailed in the water near their shop, but it looks like they can deliver kayaks to where ever you need it. Great experience.

Docking your boat is a mission and once you have but your boat on the water and they have no parking fir your trailer you are stuck and NO REFUND . The attendees in the lot not the friendliest so not a good impression for tourists

My wife and I rented Hobie kayaks 2/20/2020. Sarah and Morgan checked us in, launched our kayaks, showed us how they set them up and how to use them as it was our first time using pedal drive kayaks. We spent an hour or so cruising along the shore line of the bay enjoying both the ease/comfort of using the kayaks compared to those you paddle and the scenery that went slipping by us. When we returned, both gals came down to waters edge to show us how to retract the rudder and stow the drive fins. When I mentioned to Sarah that I was interested in the fishing version kayak that Hobie makes, she went out of her way to take us back to the shop and show us one and explained in detail all the neat features. We had a great time and really appreciated the thoughtfulness and education both Sarah and Morgan gave us. Based on our experience, we can highly recommend Florida Bay Outfitters as a great place to rent kayaks. We are looking forward to renting again the next time we get back to Key Largo.

We rented tandem kayaks from them. The kataks were great. They had back rests which was really nice. The staff members and owner were really friendly and helpful. They even told us some fun local things to do and go, (Like the outdoor fish market.) We will definitely rent from them agsin.

Stopped by with my girlfriend on a day trip to the keys. We decided we wanted to kayak and a lot of places we tried were out of rentals for the day.The prices here are very good (we paid $20 /Hour or $45 for 1/2 day) and were treated well by the employees. We were given a map before we started our journey and asked where the best places to kayak to were. The man helping us said to go to the right and we could see a few things. However, all we saw were some nice houses and mangroves.I feel like there are so many good places to kayak in the keys that this acts as a last resort because of its location in a relatively residential area. Sure the water is beautiful and the houses are great to look at, but we didnt really get any Florida keys while we kayaked. Unless youre in a pinch or just want to get out on the water quickly and for a great deal, Id say look around elsewhere. Its worth it to pay a little more and have some cool areas to kayak.

Great outfitter in the Upper Keys. They fixed my damaged kayak (hole punched in the keel and crack along the side) and also replaced the carrying straps at no charge. Some of their repairs failed due to an employee who no longer works there. When I called FBO they told me they would redo the repairs at no charge and had it fixed within a week. They sell everything you need, including roof racks, straps, sunshirts, and more. Very friendly employees. You can also rent kayaks from them.

This is the fourth year of renting from FBO and there will definitely be a fifth. We rented two Hobie outbacks and a sup for eight days. Everything was delivered in new condition, when expected, by friendly and knowledgeable staff person who gave a thorough review of the kayaks functions. Days later, we requested an additional Hobie and it was delivered within hours. Thank you so much! Using those kayaks are such a huge part of why we love the keys. My boyfriend and I rented kayaks from Florida Bay Outfitters in January of 2018 and were beyond happy with our experience. A young red-headed woman (I cant remember her name) delivered the kayaks to us and picked them up the next day, both at the exact times that were promised to us. Their prices were VERY VERY reasonable! Use Florida Bay Outfitters, its SO SO worth every penny.

First and best kayaking opportunity in the Keys when headed south down US1. All major brands and models are available for rental or sale. Fleet is replaced annually. Experienced guides and several childrens programs are available. Prices are a little lower than average for rentals.

Overall I had a positive experience with them, I rented from them 3 times over 4 days. 4 stars because they didnt deliver my equipment and didnt call to tell me that they wont, so that wasted some hours.On-site I had no issues, and they have a really nice beach area with shade and there is plenty to explore on the water.

Had a great time renting a tandem kayak from this place. They gave us information and advice about several locations so we could choose where to have the kayak delivered. Ended up going to garden Cove and kayaking south into the little canals and saw some fish, birds, and even a sea turtle. Highly recommend!

Probably the friendliest staff in key largo. Easy kayak & paddleboard rentals. FL bay also sells their old stock at competitive prices (imo). You can rent hourly or daily as they have a variety of rental options to choose from.

This is an excellent outfitter. If you are looking to rent newer gear (Kayak, Canoe, Paddleboard, etc), and want to take a trip on the water in Key Largo, this is the spot. We rented a 2 person kayak for 1/2 a day, and were dropped off and picked up at an excellent entry point down the road (part of the outfitter) The shop inside has a nice gear selection, and you will not be disappointed with the service.

Friendly staff and excellent equipment. We rented a tandem kayak for a half day to explore the mangrove trails of Pennekamp state park. The equipment was good. The staff helped us plan a route to meet our needs, supplied a map and dry bag and even shuttled us to the park. We didnt have the best weather but it was 80 degrees warmer than a Wisconsin winter and the mangrove trails are beautiful even if its just a few hours of lazy paddling. Would recommend you give FBO a call if you are in Key Largo looking to get out on the water.

We just got back from the Keys. We know how to kayak, and thought that a guided tour of the mangroves would be a good option for a windy day to keep us out of the big waters and see some wildlife. Our guide made several suggestions and we went with them since hes the expert. Turns out, he took us to a place where we had to paddle hard into the wind for 1/2 mile to even reach any mangroves, then we had very wide channels where big boats were going through with large wakes and lots of noise! Then we went downwind for awhile and eventually got into some narrows that were pretty but there was NO fish or wildlife at all! Then we turn out and had to paddle hard into the wind again for a solid mile to get back to our launch site! He acted surprised that the wind had changed, but isnt it his job to anticipate? He knew we wanted an easy paddle (were both early 60s and fit) and quiet waters...turns out we could have rented at Pennekamp and done the whole thing ourselves and seen lots more. Wont make this mistake again.

These people couldnt have been more rude. We ordered five 24 hour Kayak rentals to be delivered between 12:30 and 1 PM yesterday (Saturday, 4/21/2017). We chose 24 hour rentals so we wouldnt have to go pick them up ourselves at Florida Bay Outfitters (basically a $10 surcharge). The total with tip was $215.At 12:55 the kayaks were nowhere to be seen. I called FBO to see when to expect them. The lady on the phone informed me that they were being loaded onto the truck for delivery at that moment. 2-3 minutes later she called me back to inform me that, in fact, they were not on the racks and that they had to use the van to return some other tourists to wherever their destination was. I asked when I could expect the kayaks and she informed me that she wasnt sure. After some back and forth she said she would do her best to get them to us by 1:30. I then asked whether we would receive a discount for the time lost but she informed me that they could only extend the rental, which didnt matter to us, since we had to leave the campground by noon the following day.Another half hour later (1:35 PM) I called back to see what the status was on the kayaks. She said the van had not returned yet and that they were very busy because they only had one van that day. I then asked again whether we would receive a discount for the time lost but she informed me they dont do discounts. When I explained to her that we paid for a full 24 hours and that the extension of our time was useless to us she was unable to understand why. Furthermore I explained that we had a verbal contract to receive the kayaks between 12:30 and 1 and that time is money. She could still not understand this concept. She kept saying it wasnt their fault that they were busy and they couldnt do anything about it. When I informed her that they could provide us a small discount to make up for our lost time, she still refused. Essentially what FBO was telling us was that their time was more valuable than ours. Ridiculous.The kayaks finally came around 2:30, a full 1 1/2 to 2 hours after they were supposed to be there. No remorse or offer for a discount from the delivery guy either. These people are bad businesspeople. I dont recommend them unless you want to get ripped off.

Great rental kayak but lady that worked there was kind of rude. Was told when I called to reserve that they could drop off a kayak in a variety of places. Once we got down here and in the shop she said we only launch 3 places none of which were near where we wanted to go.. Had fun though.

Worst place ever, zero customer service and they dont do what they say they are going to. We had a kayak reserved for half a day, they were supposed to shuttle us Oceanside. We get there only to find out they were unable to take us Oceanside and could offer us nothing to make up for it. Ended up going to Pennekamp instead and had a fantastic time.
