Marcel is and expert, guff at times, but an expert. He transformed my older bike and I put another 1,500 miles on it. He carries some nice bikes. I know many Italians and they are passionate about what they love. Culturally, that can be a turn off for many Southern Californians. If you can see past that, you will get quality work.
Great place and great service. Thank you for fixing the back of my mountain bike with the screws and for filling up the air in the tires. Youre a great man!
Marcel is simply the best bike builder in California, possibly the US. Please understand bicycles are pieces of Art to Marcel, he is not rude, he is passionate and simply wants the best for you, your bike, and your goals. Grazie Pappa Celo.
This shop mainly carries high end bikes and parts at high end prices. Based on my experience I would not recommend going here for parts. The owner, Marcel you can tell is a wizard at what he does, but as far as customer service and prices for general parts, for your own sake, please look elsewhere. In my case I decided to buy a set of generic mountain bike tires and tubes at this local business during the COVID-19 pandemic. Why not support local struggling small businesses at this tough time?In the shop most items are high quality, high performance, but the prices were also very high. It cost me just under $100 for new tubes and tires. Thats $30/tire and $15 per tube with a no returns policy. Good quality, but generic and substantially marked up compared to online prices for the same product. OK, I think, supporting local business, that helps someone in my community at a tough time, I can live with this. Everything installs OK and works great, happy...So 2 weeks later I have a blowout on one of the tubes. I pull the tube and go back and explain I installed it properly as far as I could tell (properly seated, inflated, use of normal tools, no objects pierced the tube - and ive done this dozens of times) and it worked for a while then blew randomly. Im thinking for the price, the store will stand by their product, especially seeing as though I did spend just about $100 on my last sale there is plenty of profit to gain even replacing a defective product. Any reduction in profit is far offset by having a satisfied (likely repeat) customer.Yea....dream on! I tell him the story and he puts a new tube on the counter. I think all is good and reach to pick up the tube and imagine leaving thinking that he just made things right, fantastic, I like this guy and store. BUT, as I am reaching, I am told, You have to pay for that! --HUH? (dream evaporates). This is then followed by a explanation from Marcel that this occurrence is typically the customers fault for a bad install and I only see maybe 1/100 of these fail this way (but insinuating that wasnt the situation my case). But seriously with this markup is there really no room to have a satisfied customer who walks away thinking, I like that guy and shop and would love to see them do well in the community?? Major lack of common sense customer service. After I complain, the best he would offer me is $5 off a new tube (he still makes a profit on this sale after looking up the price online). So thanks for this (ill give you another star for at least trying to move my direction versus being totally inflexible) -- but the whole transaction just left a sour taste in my mouth. There are better places out there to buy bike parts: save yourself money and any hassle. If you do end up with a defective or incompatible part, just know that there are no returns and this guy is likely going to blame you to pinch pennies with just as he did with me without seeing the bigger picture of making a long time customer.(Marcel, if you are reading this, please seriously reflect on your customer service practices, store policies, and attitude and the fact this is a common complaint across many of your reviews.)
Took my Specialized road bike to this shop for repair. Needed tires replaced and one of the shifters was sticking. Owner said he was semi retired and charges $85 per hour labor + parts, and estimated $300 to $600. SAVE YOUR MONEY and help this guy fully retire! Went to Rock N Road Cyclery and saved a lot...only $142 to have a full functional bicycle.
Terrible customer service, I thought it was a joke.I called and asked for the price and turnaround time to bleed my brakes, and he responded by laughing and saying “I don’t have the time.” When I dumbfoundedly asked, “to...bleed bike brakes?” he hung up on me.
Did not go there. I went past it while going to the Vets
I initially went in to find a bike for my son. I walked out with a whole new appreciation for cycling. Marcel is an expert. He is a professional cyclist, and knows everything about every piece of a bike. Not only is my family riding great bikes now at a great price, but we have the safest equipment. We are protected properly from falls and injuries, and we are enjoying the beautiful bike paths of South OC. Thank you, Marcel.
RUDE! I called to ask about truing my front wheel. I told him that it was just slightly tweaked and asked how long fixing it generally takes and how much I should expect it to cost. He laughed then sighed and said (in a very condescending tone) “I haven’t seen it, ma’am. How can I know those things if I don’t even know what’s wrong with it?”I called another shop and they said (without even seeing it (!)) 20 bucks and 10 minutes unless it needs new spokes. I’m taking it there.
Marcel is a jewel! Truly a European bike shop experience, the place is a Virtual bike Museum! When Marcel finishes tuning your bike, it shifts like silk. I highly recommend the shop.
