I Dont know or care if The prices at Cottins are lower or higher than the competitors. I shop here because it makes me feel like a part of the community. On two occasions the owner welcomed me into the doors of Cottins after hours because I called and needed something. Because of Linda Cottin, my four chickens, Olive, The Anaconda, Gretel, and our dearly departed (🦝) Karen did not go hungry that night. Because of Linda Cottin, I was able to follow through with my socially distanced outdoor barbecue plans because Cottins was the only hardware store in town that had what I needed--a charcoal chimney. All the employees are kind and helpful. I go here all the time because of the people. Also, they help me with everything. There is a wide range of services like rentals and they fix stuff. Being a cleaner/painter for a living i know i can stop here and they always have what i need. If you have never been here you should stop in and see for yourself!

Cottins is so much more than a hardware store; they provide real community services! They can pretty much tell you how to remedy any household or yard situation and how to use any tool or product in their store. They host wonderful farmers markets with live music and have provided a public piano outdoors, for years. I know they were looking for a replacement for that piano and I hope they have found one. This place and the people who work here are real treasures of this town!

If you want high quality goods and helpful, knowledgeable staff, you cant go wrong with Cottins. The amount of stuff they fit into a relatively small store is amazing, but the store doesnt feel cramped or disorganized. Its true that the prices are sometimes higher than at one of the big box stores, but you get what you pay for and Cottins has quality. The extra dollar or two buys you far more durability than the cheap tools you get elsewhere. The store is not just locally owned, but an active presence in the community. Theres a great farmers market in the back parking lot on Thursdays, for example. So shopping at Cottins not only benefits you, but also supports a valuable local business and, by extension, our community.

As an artist, I find myself in hardware stores looking for all sorts of things, and often, the solution is in Cottins. I really appreciate that Ive never felt patronized or dismissed here, which is unfortunately a frequent experience at other hardware stores if youre a woman of smaller stature. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Definitely my first choice in Lawrence.

Cottins really is a great all around hardware store. All the employees are super friendly and very helpful. They have definitely improved the service from when the Zimmermans owned the store.I usually check out this store before heading to the other hardware store, or big box retailers.Havent availed myself of the rental side of the business, but its nice to know its there if needed.Great location, great people.

Super helpful and knowledgeable staff. When I was there on Sunday they had the KU Chemistry Dept doing a kids hands on liquid nitrogen program. Where the kids got to hammer nails into frozen bananas. I love their farmers market too!

Ive been going to Cottins for years--they are always VERY helpful and friendly and give outstanding recommendations. Ive borrowed their tools and equipment with excellent results. I think the mural commissioned is surrealistically inspirational. Highly recommend this hardware store.

Extremely helpful and friendly staff. They stock a wide variety of products which allow you to stop in during a project and find anything that you may need. If you are like me it is often more than once daily while working on this or that around the house.

Been shopping here for years, in the last 2 weeks now I have been there twice and rung up by the same guy. Very cold, borderline rude. 90% of the time its hello, how are you, need any help. When you have more than 4 items and have to ask for a bag... just lazy. Also, until recently it was always thank you for coming in, have a good one. Nothing from this guy. Guess its Home Depot & Menards for now.

I have been into Cottins probably a dozen times in the last 2 weeks working on an aquaponics system and I have needed help so many times that its gotta be getting annoying! But their staff is incredibly accommodating and have helped me find everything I needed from plumbing fittings to screws to cutting PVC for me and carrying lumber to my car. They even ask for pictures of my progress! I typically wont shop anywhere else. Cottins is the best!

Cottins really is a one stop, shop. You walk in and literally every person available will ask if you need help. Just say yes, the service is great. I go by regularly to fix something in my rickety old house and I always find what I need or get advice for where I can. Give Kahn a pat too, the store dog!

Cottins has a huge selection of hardware, and if you cant find what you need they will order it for you. All the staff are very knowledgeable and are willing to help with your project. While there are chain hardware stores in Lawrence, I prefer Cottins as a local place where you can talk to people and get to know how to fix stuff around the house.

Cottins Hardware is a great locally owned hardware store. Linda knows her inventory inside and out, and knows how to fix about anything. (She also writes a regular column for the Lawrence Journal World on how to fix things around the house). Though they would not admit it publicly, I know men in the trades who go to Cottins and ask Linda what part they need to make a repair, and/or what the building code requires. I told Linda I wish someone could hook up a siphon to her brain and download her knowledge (a copy, with the original to stay with her). The employees are helpful too.
