Why is Stories closed today? Im totally confused. Its the middle of the afternoon and both entrances are locked.Update: The coffee shop next door said Stories is closed for a few days because of Covid. I wish they would put a sign up on their door instead of making me assume Stories went out of business.
Favorite coffee shop in echo park. Great selection of books. I always find a gift to give when I am here
I just love getting coffee and or lunch here. The egg sandwich is large and filling. There are always very interesting people there and I feel quite at home. There is metered parking in front and a large lot in back, so its easy to find parking. The book store is fantastic and Im happy to support a small business and keep them alive during these hard times.
Stories is a tiny and well stocked bookstore that is easily missed but also where one could easily get lost among good books and rare zines. They also have lots of cool cards and postcards, and a little coffee bar tucked in the back. I ordered a cortado and it was excellent. I hoped to snag a seat in the back to enjoy my coffee and write a few postcards, but all the seats were taken so I moved on.
Finally visited this place! Awesome.Great chai latte. A nice selection of other drinks and food.Loved the selection of unique postcards - Im already on the lookout for unusual things to send to my friends.Interesting books too! Definitely a place you could spend time browsing.Cute patio in the back, some tables on the inside. Peaceful.
Perfect spot to browse for books and supporting local indie bookshop. I worked at a book store for many years and this is a reminder why I wanted to be a bookseller. I enjoy browsing looking for classics and noteworthy books. Thank you for this experience.
This is the best coffee shop in Hollywood. The atmosphere is relaxing with a huge selection of books to read while you enjoy your fresh made coffee and teaThe outdoor patio is really nice on a spring day and there is plenty of close parking nearby
An iconic bookstore and cafe! What would echo park be without stories? They make you feel at home, part of the community. You can browse for hours, sit with your laptop, grab a coffee from the sweetest people. Lovely backyard patio too. The pandemic has hit them hard- order books online and pick them up from stories! You can still shop in person too. Shop local, it’s worth it.
Great for writing. The coffee is great and so are the deserts.
I will give this place 5 stars for uniqueness, good cold brew, free almond milk creamer and honey, and great seating.I came here for the first time at opening on a Tuesday and plenty of seats were available. The front is a bookstore and in the back-ish is where you order coffee. Theres wonderful patio seating and looks like you can enter the cafe from both sides.I parked on a residential street for free a block away. They give you a glass glass when you dine in or a to go cup to dine out. Very cozy.Definitely will be back!
Great copy Coffee and book shop. Pre covid it was always a great place to have meetings or just chill.
Coffe and books baby is all you need is really good Coffee people very friendly
Cool place.too close and packed in for my liking and the prices arent on the books... good prices, thoughBooks are separated by categories, you can order online at the register for a book if they dont have it.From art history, gardening, occult, crime, and biographies they have a variety and several books. They have a number of collections and some books have multiple copies. They sell books, post cards, and moleskin journals, notebooks.Cashier leaves suddenly, but is friendly.
Lovely helpful staff. Trendy hipster clientele.
No fool’s gold in sight. Just unique treasures.I found gifts that meet my standards in quality since I wouldn’t dare give someone something generic from target.I could see my friends’ enjoying their gifts that are tailored to their unique personalities.. gifts that aren’t mass produced. There is love in the pages. That’s what makes it all the more special. I’m glad.
More accessible from the back than the front. Mostly vegan fare. The sandwich was delicious, and the outdoor seating space was distanced and clean. I didnt use the restrooms.
The type of bookstore with little treasures waiting to be discovered. Grab a coffee and enjoy!
Amazing service. This place is like a second home. Extremely interesting clientele and can spend hours there.
Amazing place to get a cup of coffee or even better a Hot chocolate much better than the other 6 or 7 hipster coffee places that litter sunset (PS the crumb muffin is AMAZING)
Great patio for book reading
The owner, Claudia is a fine person. A pleasure to spend a moment with. A 4 🌟 individual.
Good food
Lovely people and a lovely community bookstore. They go above and beyond!
Bookstore indoors + a lovely outdoor area, great place to read a book or do some work. a lot of writers always present so sometimes it might be hard to find a spot. Beer & wine available if you want a take a date there too or just chill.
Really happy Stories was open this afternoon. I wanted a quick and simple bite for lunch and avocado toast did the trick. I highly recommend them for their coffee and simple eats if youre in the neighborhood ❤️
Good selection of books(especially in the cookbook/food aisle) Nice cozy atmosphere
One of my preferred places for tasty cafe food. Visited on a Thursday. The service here is above par. The place has a good atmosphere. Like a restaurant in Washington I loved.
I liked this place, quaint little book store with outdoor seating in the back for a coffee shop. This is a queer hangout and the crowd is amazingly diverse. The book selection was cool, I picked u a copy of Kitchen Confidential. A tiny bit small and cramped inside though so if you like personal space its not really the right place for you. The coffee isn’t bad either, but I prefer Bloom and Plume a bit more which is 2 blocks south. Still 10/10 in my book.
Kid-friendly, pretty good lattes
Good selection of interesting used and new books. Lots of young hipsters frequent the cafe. Laid back atmosphere and good readings. Recommended!
Definitely my best spot. Library with quiet area and patio, the coffee and the food are really good, delicious patisseries, and good music. really nice to work from there as well with the laptop and buy books.
Nice in so many ways!
Makes life in echo park great
The best place ever in the entire world.
The staff was nice and told me about all of the great events. The book selection is very unique. The place has a great vibe. They will even order any book you want and cant find. I got great recommendations for local book clubs that cover a wide variety of genres to cover whatever reading mood youre in. I particularly liked the selection on social issues and business. Great atmosphere and cant wait to visit again.
Get lost in this surreal and magical place for readers of all ilk and every creed. Its like Amoeba Records but for Books!!!
Charming little bookstore and coffee shop. They serve coffee, tea plus beer and wine and also their own Kombucha. In terms of food, you can get simple sandwiches and salads.Stories has lots of special events going on in the patio area from live music, to storytelling, to tarot readings. Check their calendar.
A great find. Indoor/outdoor seating, limited laptop space which is a positive when you are in a bookstore. Great coffee, free refills on tea, nice service, and within walking distance of a lake. Nothing to complain about!
A hidden gem in Los Angeles - truly. Great vibe, serves drinks of all varieties (alcoholic and non), has seating space, outdoor space, and a nice collection of very cool books. Events are held in the back area which is open air. Very cool! High recommend this little gem
I used to like coming here, until they hired some rude cashier . I was about to pay for two books, as the lady was flipping through the pages I said the price is in the back of the book at the top . With an attitude she replied I know how to ring up the book and rolled her eyes. I Didnt bother to get her name but she was working cashier 11:00am . I walked out and told her to keep her books. Her Behavior resulted in stories losing a customer.
This is my favorite spot to hang in Echo Park...and so far LA. Been living here 2 months now and Ive probably visited Stories 60% of the days Ive been here. Theres great music, but not to loud that you couldnt enjoy a quiet work/book session. They have FREE events going on every night. Ive not seen an event that wasnt totally worth it. Theyve got great priced food too. Their portions are great. Big enough coffee and beer section to try new things. Staff is always pleasant. Spend your money here and support local business. Fan for life.
This place is so cute. Great coffee and amazing atmosphere. I love to come here for a read and some study. Plus, the bookstore has a fantastic selection of unique titles. Check it out! Great place to hang out if you spend some time in Echo Park :)
Great ambience.. bookstore and coffee shop in one. Has a nice patio out back. I can’t speak for the beverages because I only got a tea, but I will update later since I’ll definitely be coming back. The only downside was I found the staff to be a tiny bit neglectful but they were still friendly.
Big sci-fi/fantasy new section, and a good-sized used section. They had pretty much every author I looked for, and many Id never heard of. Ill be back for sure!
Great selection of books and many genres to look through. It was a quick visit for my first time, but I will be returning to pick up a few books and maybe grab a coffee or a bite to eat.
Places like this are the reason we live in the city. I recently found a relatively obscure fantasy author here who I couldnt have found at any other establishment. I should also say that the people working here have always been very friendly and helpful whenever Ive visited.
One of my favorite bookstores / cafes. The atmosphere is really cozy, contrary to the sometimes flashy & trendy LA coffee shops. They have a lovely outdoor patio in the back thats good for doing work.
Great sense of community at this place, I’m here everyday.
The best place to go for science fiction, fantasy or horror fiction (and a smattering of sf/f/h nonfiction as well). They also have rare and hard-to-find British imports, local magazines, etc. Good, strong used section as well. Friendly staff, too.
The jewel of echo park
Excellent bookstore, knowledgeable staff. A great place to spend a few hours browsing books. Convenient location. Great author events.
Great coffee shop and bookstore. They have some interesting books as well as various events. Right by echo park as well so stop in then hang out in the park
When youre tired, and craving a drink to quell your thirst, Stories can be your oasis, whether you have a seat indoors or on the shady, plant-filled outside patio. Or, if its your mind feeling starved of conversation with a peer ready to discuss ancient alchemical processes for which philosophers and theologians were sometimes sworn to secrecy by their leige, or more recent ideas by doctors of natural philisophy whose grimoires are all for sale and in stock at Stories.
This is a great bookstore! There are plenty of books, and magazines. Lots of cards, saying this is a good book! Very friendly people. You can stay a very long time, I did! Unabridged, a great store!
The staff working in this coffee shop/bookstore are awful. Although the place has a beautiful and cozy charm of books, nice lightening and is in heart of Echo Park, the staff are ruining the atmosphere in this place that I am forced to give only 1 star. Why? Never met with such rude and cold workers in any other coffee shop before. They act nonchalant and arrogant and put their frustrations on customers. It is unpleasant to be around such negative people, perhaps change your tone of voice and attitude towards people who wish no harm.
This is my favorite coffee shop in town. They have the best muffins and lattes. Super nice baristas and fast service.
GREAT coffee. I come here almost every morning during the week days and the staff is always in amazing spirits and very kind. I always feel welcome here with my toddler in tote. Very nice atmosphere and very nice space in the back to chill and hangout. Love this place and highly recommend!!
This cafe was cool. I didnt get to try the coffee because the line was long but I loved the vibe and the concept.
Very comfy. Lovely tea. Great used book shelf!
Support your local bookstore! Always! Good variety of books and a lovely atmosphere suitable to the Silverlake neighborhood. A bit of a bummer they did not buy my books, but if you have decent books you wish to resell, try them out.
Its a hip little book store. They have a nice selection, and the coffee isnt half bad. Every Saturday they have a comedy show for free (donations always welcome though).
Love this neighborhood bookstore and cafe. They have beer on tap now and events held in the back. Intimate for reading, meeting friends and working on your laptop.
Beautiful and quaint, with excellent food and a modest selection of books. I came here in the evening and there was a folk band playing on the patio. Wonderful atmosphere, I will be coming back!
One of my favorite places in L.A. Great environment, awesome and interesting staff, supportive of local art scenes, queer space, good prices, and open late. It feels well settled, vibrant, and authentically weird.
Stopped in over the weekend, they really have a lovely childrens selection with a nice selection of multicultural books/authors/reading levels. Saw a sign saying ask at the counter if you were looking for F. Scott Fitzgerald, so I asked when I got to cashier/to check out--what that was all about.
My friend advised this store. I thank him for that! There is a huge selection of all books of all genres! Be sure to visit this store and recommend it to your friends! I would be surprised if you do not like it, and by the way the prices are not very expensive!
Good place to hang out. Get crowded. Friendly staff. Nice people. Good coffee too. Kinda on the higher price range.
The cashier was condescending :( The books and ambience were good :)
Stories is the Goldilocks of bookstores. New and used books live fearlessly side by side. A fantastic local section reside near a truly perfect childrens section. I was on the hunt for a specific printing of Alice Through the Looking Glass; I was shown five different versions to choose from. The cafe is outstanding and the back patio is charming.
If your looking for a energetically charged bookstore youve found it in Stories. With its energetic coffee and tea connection in the back weather your a writer, actor, seeker or an adept the atmosphere will provide you with a tangible exchange of excitement and enlightment.
A great selection of books in a great, neighborhood oriented, environment. A good cafe to hang out in and performances and night. The best.
This place is phenomenal customer service outstanding .My favorite coffee Fix Is here at Honey and Bacon ...Not to mention theyre delicious pastries, Thank you guys for outstanding customer service
Great place with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, plus its a great way to find now reads.
One of the best bookstores in all of Los Angeles. They have a nice poetry section plus beer and small plates. I came to a poetry reading and they were wonderful. I will most definitely return.
So today was the second flop experience Ive dealt with at this place. I didnt review my first experience because I think everyone is allowed a bad day. So it started off this time around with me walking in and right off the bat getting the dirtiest look from the guy at the front. I said good morning anyway and he just continued to scowl. My intention was to sell a few books to a local bookstore in my neighborhood. To save time I called to make sure the guy was there and also asked what they look for when buying books, over the phone he had said, philosophical material, metaphysics, religious, political, and fictional novels. I made my picks which ended up being a book about Jesus and who he was, a collection of letters between John and Abigail Adams, a couple of vintage Readers Digest condensed books, a Harvard Classics volume 10, and a star wars book. Pretty much to the T of what this guy supposedly looks for. After looking at all of them in a matter of 4 seconds... I cant use these if you had a dust cover on this one (referring to the John Adams letters) then maybe. I offered to go and look for the sleeve and he said Im not into it. If you are into snobby hipsters and over priced coffee, you will love this place.
The best place in the world.
This place is a local echo park institution. It reminds me of Jack Kerouac scene out of On The Road or Dharma Bums. Poets and writings hanging out smoking cigarettes out front. Designers, artists, screenwriters typing up their next opus in the outdoor patio. It’s such a vibe. They have a great selection of classic books, fiction, Los Angeles history, coffee table, vintage first editions, old magazines, etc.Coffee and pastries are solid too! The best part about this coffee shop / bookstore is really the social atmosphere. Strike up a conversation with a stranger here, they’ll have some stories to tell.
Here are a lot of books I would love to read :D
They have a cafe and bar serving beers and wine, a decent selection of books, room to sit inside and outside, and live acts in their back patio area.
This coffee shop is walkable distance to where I stay in la and this place is a hole in the wall gem. A lot of places in la are pretty crowded and parking isnt the greatest, but this place feels like Im back home in the suburbs. Very cozy and quiet- homely. AAND the food is awesome. I tried one of the pastries ( dont remember the name bc I took the last one and they already removed the label for me to check ) but basically it was delicious and not too sweet. Freakin love it here and its only my first time.
Tight. Real chill vibe in there. Lil tough to get a seat sometimes, but the park is right down the street. Love it
Props to this place for thriving so closely to the coop. The staff are friendly, the bargain basement rocks and they put on excellent programming. Im bummed i have to work during the inauguration and will miss what sounds like will be a good time.
Delicious sandwiches, and amazing bookstore! I was looking for a very specific (not very popular) book and was thrilled when the staff knew what I was talking about. Will definitely return the next time Im in Echo Park!
