If you want to be known for great, hipster coffee, you need to get some basics right. Firstly, it shouldnt take 10 mins to make a coffee, and secondly it should taste great. There are way better places in Louisville for great, local coffee.
Generally I would give this place 5 stars but recently my orders have constantly been wrong. I work down the street and my coworkers and I prefer ordering here more than the other coffee shop in the neighborhood, but weve been pretty disappointed the lately. Its one thing to something wrong every now and then but another for it to be almost every order we make. I hope they can get their groove back soon. The outdoor space is lovely and well kept, the staff is generally pretty nice.
Their chicken simple could not be done any better. Moist tender and flavourful. The sauces they offer are also unlike any youve had and are just as good as the chicken.
Cool atmosphere inside and around the building. I ordered the cappuccino with the splash of bourbon Carmel flavor and it was incredible. I highly recommend this place to anyone who is a coffee drinker
This is a hip little coffee shop that was recommended to us to try out.The menu is interesting. We tried a few items. The espresso Old Fashioned is a cool idea but missed the mark. The outdoor seating area is amazing!Staff wasnt super friendly but they were very busy too.
The employees were very nice! I am not much of a coffee fan but I did love their hot tea and they had amazing bagels. I would suggest to try the jalapeño cheddar bagel. It was a chill place to sit, sip, and work on my tasks. Very great atmosphere.
Ive always loved Quills, but had only ever visited the Central Ave location. The Main Street location is great! I had an iced latte and it was incredible. You cant beat the outdoor seating, Id almost consider it the best outdoor cafe seating in town!
I love Quills! Stopped for coffee for now and home, and left with a muffin and tshirt too! Thank you to the guy from Bloomington, IL.
Horchata latte was great (and it was also $7+ for 24oz, so it ought to be good). The place is good for people who want a place to work, indoors or outdoors. They have long tables and seems like they can seat a lot of people. It can get distracting sometimes because people do their video meetings in here. Im also glad they opted to use paper straws, but ironically they used plastic cups and lids. :( Also, I appreciate that they kept the indoors with a high air exchange rate (helps lessen the spread of airborne COVID) but also - if they decide to have their garage door/huge window open, they should not have their AC blasting indoors... Its a huge waste of energy! And all the more it probably contributes to Earths problems, i.e. Climate change (vs. straw usage and solid waste) anyway, bottom line, great coffee, but please shut the doors if you have your AC on or just dont have AC on inside if you decide to keep your huge garage door open. :)
Great friendly service, excellent atmosphere with plenty of room to work remote or chat with friends.
Great coffee. Best quills in area. Amazing staff.
Good coffee with a nice selection. Many prepared menu items are available for a wide tang of dietary needs. The facility is well laid out and felt welcoming. The staff was very kind and took the time to tell me about the business when I ask questions about the facility. You could sense the love that they have for coffee, their job, and the company. I can imagine their other locations are done with the same level of Excellence. The outdoor seating area would be comfortable to meet and catch up with friends . . . as long as your a paying customer.Next time I think Ill try to plan it where I can get a tour of the roasting and Barista training facility . . . if that is an option. Maybe take a intro class for a non-barista if its offered.
They have bourbon caramel flavored syrup... need I say more?! I am from Louisville but live in VA now. I have been here twice in the last year when visiting. They make great coffee and are very friendly.
Love this great coffee shop! It is a great place for friend hangout, date, work or homework space. They do offer wifi.
Big... Inside and out. Nice. Have decaf, as all coffee houses should. Best coffee in the Ville. And Im from SF and Seattle so I know
We have become spoiled living so close to Quills! Every visit to Quills is a very friendly experience with great service, perfect coffee and an inexpensive hearty and healthy breakfast. The service is always impeccable and attentive and the kitchen staff isnt afraid to step out from behind the stove to make sure their customers are happy.
Coffee here is always great. Music was a little loud for conversation sometimes, but thats obviously a personal preference.
Great coffee, great vibe! Indoor outdoor seating.
My second office in Nulu. Nice and best coffee in town
Nice place very friendly people behind the counter. A great place to grab a good cup of coffee and sit with a few friends
Excellent bourbon vanilla iced latte, decent scones, and a nice outdoor patio.
The staff are super friendly. Theres a variety of seating options inside and out. The coffee and tea options are tasty. And the feature a different local artists work on the walls, the latest being a papercraft sculptor! You can also buy bags of coffee and apparatuses for brewing at home. Great shop and one of my go-to joints when I visit Louisville.
Solid beans. But the environment is the best part here imo
Came here for a coffee and some internet access. However, after purchasing coffee we found out that the internet was not working. When we asked an employee he said that it had been acting up since Friday. He did not attempt to help and just walked away. We had to leave to find another coffee shop with internet and buy something there. For a coffee shop that clearly is set up to allow for people to work in the store, there should be some acknowledgment (sign or verbal warning) that the internet wasnt working BEFORE someone buys coffee there, especially when it has clearly been an ongoing issue. An implied part of the purchase is the ability to sit at their tables and use their internet. (The internet issue was not only affecting us, others in the store mentioned having issues and we could see many personal hotspots on). I would not recommend this coffee shop to those looking to sit and get some work done.
Really cool and interesting coffee shop space, the coffee itself was very good and on par with other reputable big city coffee shops. I picked up a bag of coffee and it was as fresh from the roaster as it can be.
Really nice place to work and have coffee. There cappuccinos are not as good as they used to be. Kitchen is closed due to covid regulations which is a bummer.
So good, one of the best chai lattes Ive had. Strawberry mocha was good as well. Cute outdoor seating area too.
My wife and I love to visit coffee shops. We spent a morning here on a trip to Louisville and were very impressed. The staff was friendly, eager to explain their signature drinks, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We had two different coffee tonic sodas and loved them. Shout out to Chris for excellent service and taking the time to tell me about their business.
Great coffee and a lovely homemade pop tart (lime and raspberry, thank you). Love the owl motif.
Great cappuccino and service. Good attention to social distancing measures as well. I liked the bourbon caramel flavor. Well worth the drive for me.
The place was packed. I was expecting something fabulous. Unfortunately it was mediocre at best, for a premium price compared to other coffee shops in the area. I fought tooth and nail to give them a shot because they dont answer the phone or return calls. Sorry, not sorry. Im completely underwhelmed. You better step up your game if you want to be a competitor in this overpopulated arena of coffee excellence.
LOVE THIS LOCATION. beautiful, bright space (though less natural light than Quills St. Matt’s), gorgeous tiles and bar.my go-to is always an iced americano (learned today that a big’n has 4 shots of espresso, so get the lil baby if you’re watching your intake—my fingers are shaking as i type this, but they’re happy shakes). i also tried a fall specialty (cider coffee soda) and HOLY cow. just delicious. and an almond croissant. idk where their pastries come from but oh em gee (if anyone from quills is reading this: DO y’all MAKE YOUR OWN PASTRIES?!).outdoor seating is perfect in the fall. bright for sunbathing/studying in the summer. but also inside is happy. and there’s always good art about. love, love, love.
Loved this place! The atmosphere is really nice and the baristas are top notch! A wonderful place to enjoy a delicious beverage!
An awesome space with awesome coffee. Matt is the most knowledgeable barista in town! He was able to provide an excellent recommendation for me based on my preferences and took my coffee experience from “really, really good” to excellent and memorable. Thanks, Matt and Quills!
One of my favorite coffee shops. Great baristas, great service.
Yummy stop along the way!
What an amazing coffee shop this is. Let me tell you Starbucks, Heine Brothers do not compare to the quality of coffee as well as the fact that their cost is less than both of the mentioned location. I have to say that first of all this is a hipster Paradise it is ultra hipster meaning that when you walk in the location is modern however the employees look like theyre from the 1960s. The picture I attached its from a caramel latte 12 oz served inside the store. It was an amazing experience. I have now made it a tradition that when I have a day off from work which I work six days a week I am out of myself that wonderful Lotte which requires no additional sweetener sugar or anything to it. The flavor is perfectly balanced at $4.37 for a 12 oz glass plus $1 tip is still cheaper than honey brothers and Starbucks and is a 10 for 10 on flavor temperature and presentation. I recommend to anyone especially the downtown Louisville location which is located on Main Street and Shelby. This location also serves hot food has alcohol and has free Wi-fi I find it a nice location to wake up in the morning. This location does not have its own parking structure so if you do not work there and live locally you will have to park on the street there is metered parking as well as street parking available
Coffee was good but not very hot..
Great coffee!!! Great prices!!! Quick service and great environment!!!
Great coffee & amazing baristas! They gave great suggestions and our drinks turned out amazing!!
Best cup of decaf Ive ever had the pleasure to enjoy!
You have to visit this Quills. They have done a great job in this former firehouse. Beyond the architecture, the coffee is great. Over this pandemic, Ive bought four bags of coffee and will be going back for more. You need to have your meetings, work, and hangout outs at this place and drink their coffee.
Great coffee, super friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere!
Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good coffee. Not enough baked goods. So many of these coffee shops are trying to be unique that theyre all just becoming cliches.A good place to study and chat with friends.
The best non-bar place to meet and talk shop in Louisville. I’ve been pleased with the friendliness of baristas every visit, and there’s some interesting local art on the walls that’s fun to check out. Terrific coffee (of course), and of its your first time, make sure you check out the backyard space too. Would be great if there were more nooks/private places to sit and talk. The table by the door is always packed and tables along the side wall get camped out with laptop workers.
Great cold brew!
Friendly staff and use of high quality ingredients. However, the WiFi is slow and the indoor experience isn’t comparable to other locations on this street.
Old firehouse turned into a coffee shop and we loved it. There were plenty of space for sitting, nice clean bathrooms and friendly staff. My son has an Americano and I had a ginger/berry tea(?), and we both loved it! I also had a blackberry scone(I think thats what it was) and it was moist inside and crusty outside with sugar, the way I like it! I hope my son can work here when he starts school at u of L. :L
Top notch food, wine and certainly the best ambience in the city.
Really strong cold brew. Taste like I make at home. Good prices too.
Small menu but every item is perfect. The burrito was filling, egg sandwich soft and delicious, yogurt was smooth and granola delightfully crunchy. The espresso in the lates was pulled perfectly with a beautiful design. A great place to sit and work for extended periods of time or to grab food and go. Really great place!
Great coffee! Highly Recommend!
Always a nice experience and great coffee.
I love this quills, we love walking there and eating outside in the back courtyard area. The breakfast food is also very good, i highly recommended the burritos or waffles, and of course the coffee is always amazing.
Really great coffee and amazing employees is what separates Quills from other coffee shops. A great spot for working or hanging out for a while!
Quills coffee is always delicious. This is the Quills location I choose if there are people I need to run into. I cant go in here without seeing at least three people that I need/want to talk to. It can be loud for working. I appreciate that they offer vegan and gluten free food items. Staff are always great.
I love Quills Coffee Firehouse. The location is suitable for meetings downtown without the added hassle of parking because there is always street parking available. The facility is well maintained, the workers are always helpful, and the vibes are great for meeting with a friend or getting work done.
Great drink and nice aesthetic, but virtually no vegan options. Very disappointing and surprising given the amount of vegan restaurants in Louisville and options at other coffee shops. Theyve said for quite some time that theyre working on it, but nothing has happened in over a year and half since Ive been coming here.
Coffee is great ... Slowest baristas... No sense of urgency... In the afternoon it will take 20 minutes to get a latte...
Great coffee shop. I had the caramel bourbon latte and really enjoyed it, especially as someone who typically gets drinks without espresso. Unfortunately, I don’t live Louisville, but when I’m in town this will be my go-to coffee spot
Favorite coffee in the city. One of the only that consistently offers single origins already brewed. Good place to meet for business or socially. Ample outlets if youre going to settle in to work. Long table near the entrance to facilitate larger groups, and a nice outdoor area when the weather permits.
Great coffee and space
Exceptional coffee and service
This place is super dope, I highly recommend the Alchymist and sitting out back and enjoying life.
I really like this place. Its actually my preferred coffee shop in the nulu area. I’ve always really liked there coffee. It seems to just have that extra kick that some of the others coffees don’t. Also the space is really nice to have a casual coffee with someone as well as to work. I’ve spent so many hours here getting refills. Service has also always been very nice and helpful.
Great coffee. You can smell the coffee before you enter the building
Very nice coffee place
This is a nice coffeehouse... its clean, relatively quiet, and has a delightful back patio. If catching up with friends, I would recommend the outdoor seating, as inside does at times feel more like an office with an open floor plan.
I love all of the Quill’s locations. I frequent this one the most since I work nearby. Quills has the best coffee hands down. Not just in Louisville, but the best coffee ever. There’s something special about it. A lot of times when I go to hip coffee shops I feel like the staff can be very judgmental. but quills is not the case. Everyone is super chill and friendly. Willing to answer your questions about different drinks, roasts, flavors. It’s amazing.
Good independent coffee chain in Louisville & IN (New Albany & Indy). Good place to hang and work/study but I usually get their beans to go.
This college town coffee shop is exactly what one would expect. There is a decent choice of drinks, the prices are reasonable for limited budgets. My only qualms about this place are it tends to get noisy in a hurry, and the foods are very obviously Aramark or Crisco prepackaged things and not freshly made. (Which is what you SHOULD expect at a place like this) Definitely worth while.
Probably the best coffee in the city. On top of that, the shop has ample indoor and outdoor seating. Check them out when you get the chance. Sadly, no reference to Guardians of the Galaxy in sight.
Very nice place with delicious coffee that they roast right out back. Food is good, but kitchen hours seem to change or maybe I just cant figure them out? Either way, great spot.
