SAVED MONEY! I got glasses today for half what I paid last year at another eye glass store. The sales rep, Nicole Ritter, was helpful and very patient as I tried on several frames. She gave great suggestions that helped me decide on the best pair for me. I will refer this place to my family & friends.
Let me start by saying that I am not an insurance expert, but I am aware of my benefits and what services are and are not covered. This was/is hands down the worse experience I ever have had to endure as far as an eye exam. Just moved into the area and needed to find a new optometrist so thought I would give Meijer a try. I should mention that there were 5 total family members needing a new exam. We were not blown away by the optometrist, but we needed new exams as the new school year approached and our Rx were expired. What I mean by that is he came off as cheap. Asking if we had solution and a case to store our contacts in. I mean who carries that stuff with them to an exam? The ladies that “run” the front desk were completely unprofessional and reminded me of pushy used car salesmen. They joked back and forth with each other the entire time, which is fine, but showing customers text messages on your personal phone was neither appropriate nor expected. I tried to make it as painless as possible for all parties involved. We brought in Rx and current glasses while wearing our contacts. This is not required but again wanted to make things easier for all involved. At least save them time and effort of having to figure out our Rx. Anyway, 3 of the 5 were good to go and required nothing further than the exam. My son and I however had changes to our prescription and would require new glasses and contacts. I, however, did not want to commit to buying new materials until the trial pairs were ordered and fitted. They never mentioned trial pairs until I suggested it but continued to push their promotions on us to get us to purchase new glasses/lenses. Three weeks later, no call, nothing. So, I called to get a status update. They obviously did not order them and were now scrambling to order them and said they are looking into it and would call me back. The next day they both call me (separate occasions – five minutes apart) and say that they are ordered and will be there the next day. Poor communication. Are you starting to see a theme? No big deal, right? Wrong! Another week goes by and still no call. So, I again call for status update and they said they were there but were waiting for the doctor to give them a day and time to fit us in. At this point, I am like we have waited 4 weeks so we should be at the top of the list. Anyway, no call back with a day or time so I decide to stop by in person to see for myself what is going on. I showed up as soon as they opened and demanded answers. They did, in fact, have the trial pair but they were the incorrect Rx. This was blamed on the wearing of a mask when placing the order which may have made it difficult to rely the Rx during the order process. I was dumbfounded when they still tried to give me the lenses even though they were the wrong Rx. I am now beyond frustrated and colorfully expressed my feelings. The “eye doctor” hears the conversation and peers out of his office. I then suggested that he becomes more involved with his practice because he is losing 5 patients. He scoffed at me like whatever bro. He seriously had no damns to give. I plan to report this as insurance fraud (they billed my insurance two fitting fees and did not perform that service) as my phone call to corporate fell upon deaf ears. I expected more from this place with the Meijer badge in front of it but was let down on so many levels. Be better. I will never return here and suggest you avoid this place too.
Out of network for my insurance. However, the staff was so amazingly helpful, that my glasses were less expensive than in-network! Savings of $100-$150 this year! I receive compliments on the cute frames I found there, as well. Great quality + affordability = Win win!
I originally went to Advanced Rockford Eye Care to get an exam and new glasses, as a first time patient. I was planning on purchasing glasses and prescription sunglasses. I was not happy with the service they provided and ended up only purchasing glasses, which I feel were a little expensive. I decided to obtain my prescription and go elsewhere for my sunglasses and ended up at the Meijer in Machesney Park. From the moment I walked into the optical center I felt welcomed by Katherine, who was already helping someone. When she was finished she welcomed me to look around and even was giving me feedback on different styles I was trying on. The whole process from start to finish was completely unexpected but absolutely appreciated. Katherine was very personable and made the whole process an enjoyable one. I will be coming back to Meijer Optical in Machesney Park from now on. Thanks Katherine!
The optritian was great. He honestly cared about my eyes and how to help me see better. My problem is ordering and receiving my new glasses. The labritory is in New Jersey and its been 13 calendar days and I still dont have my glasses. I was told today that the lab shattered my lens when making the prescription and had to start over again. I am not happy with the results from this optical store.
Great prices and a good selection of frames!
