We had the best experience at Ace Hilldale. We dont have room for a big grill, so we bought a little Weber and a cart to go with it. The instructions to put the cart together were clear as mud, and after a half an hour, I called over there to ask if they wouldnt mind assembling it for us. They couldnt have been nicer. He put it together in about 3 minutes -- knowing exactly where everything should go, and showed us how to put it up and take it back down. He was so kind and respectful. We will do all our hardware shopping at Ace Hilldale from now on. Ray and Amy

An unreliable store.Be careful with this ACE Hilldale store if you order online and pick it up at the store. I placed an order but couldnt go to the store to pick up the items immediately, after 2 days they marked their system as Order Picked Up instead of Order Canceled, I believe this way they dont have to refunds their customers. This is unacceptable.I asked the manager to check their camera record to see who picked up my order but he couldnt do it and tried to blame someone who took the order under my name. It is very weird because no one can have my name with my exact order number. Even when I went to the store, I had to open the email to read the order number that is up to eight characters long.If you ordered online and forgot to pick up your item at this store, you should check your account and credit card to see if they have refunded you.

Employees were super helpful when I asked for screws for my front license plate and they directed me to the proper screws that would not rust in Wisconsin weather. Highly recommend going to Ace if you arent quite sure what you actually need.

I live on the east side and go out of my way to shop here. I have never had a negative experience here and have always found what Ive been looking for. The staff here are friendly and have gone the extra mile for me multiple times.

Great hardware store. One negative is yesterday there was someone there doing chiropractic screenings in the middle of the store. Not what I am looking for at a hardware store. Though I certainly understand businesses are going through a hard time right now.

Well I finally found what I was looking for without help, bought them and left. They almost always have what I need/want.

Great store - theyve stayed open through the last very difficult few months during COVID-19. Reduced staff, but still do their best to give good customer service even when they have been very crowded, especially on weekends in March/April/May.

Just went to exchange a propane tank. Walked in, no one at counter, so I set the empty tank on the counter. Waited for the clerk and got yelled at for bringing tank in and told to take the tank outside. It would have been nice for someone to be there when I walked in and ask me nicely to not bring it inside. I take the tank outside and return to find the clerk helping someone else. Nice!. What happened to first come first serve. Not here. I pay for the tank, head outside and grab the exchange tank, and hear a guy say your welcome. How pretentious. I replied, You were not thanked, and your welcome It is the customers transactions that keep the business going. Thank the customer do not reply obnoxiously. If you want good hardware go to the Quality True Value on Park st. They know customer service. Unhappy and not returning.

I have been shopping at this hardware store ever since I moved to Madison, now over 11 years ago. The staff have always been very helpful, and I am usually offered help finding things several times during every visit to the store. For that reason, I prefer this store to other ones that are about the same distance from my house. I read some reviews here from people who have had bad experiences. In my personal experience, I have always been very pleased with the customer service at this store.

I go there over the bigger stores because they are helpful the second you enter the store. Its a lost quality and, as someone who isnt particularly handy, worth paying a little more for to save time and effort with my home projects.

I have three different Ace or True Value hardware stores within a reasonable distance. What recommends this one is mostly that its closest. The staff here know their stuff really well, which is a plus. And its a true hardware store. They have every imaginable size and shape of bolt, screw, nut, and washer in both English and Metric. Hex, Torx, Phillips, slotted, you name it, they have it. And the staff know where to find it. The downside with this store is the prices. I went looking for a hose reel. I found the same one this store had for $10 less at Target and $20 less at Home Depot. Thats typical of this Ace. The staff are great, buy the prices are very very high.

I had a disappointing trip to Ace last weekend. The person who helped me was inexperienced and gave me wrong or bad advice about a couple things, and just didnt know what they were all capable of doing for me. I happened to get a request for a survey after that trip and gave honest feedback. Ace reached out to me immediately and put me in touch with their senior expert on paint. Cathy at the Hilldale Mall location went beyond above and beyond--they really made it up to me and explained what had happened. Huge kudos to Ace for fixing this problem and making me feel confident again in using them as my number one hardware store.

Chris is the man! This is by far the best Ace in Dane County! Verona Ace is never open and never has what you need. Ok, its a nice hardware store and I like the smaller size because I dont like the huge big box places. Its always easier to get advice from an employee in the smaller stores.

I dont care how cheap Home Depot is. I dont care how big Menards is. When I walk into the Ace Hardware store at Hilldale, someone approaches me immediately and offers to help me and DOES help me. The friendly, knowledgeable, and probably underpaid salespeople at Ace know where everything is in the store, are patient with questions, and give terrific advice. I save tons of time (and therefore money) by shopping at Ace; instead of spending a half hour running around one of the big box stores trying to find an item or someone to answer a question for me, I can pop into Ace, buy what I need, and then be on my way. Im glad theyre in the neighborhood.

Ive been doing business with Ace in Hilldale for over twenty years. Im surprised that some folks have had a bad experience there, and Im very sorry.I have never had any problem whatsoever. Ive always loved it there, and everybody has been very nice and polite and patient, even with my son when he was toddler.I go there just to look around, when I can. Its just such a nice place to be.I have also been to a few other Ace Hardwares in Madison, and they seem just as good, but Im especially hooked on the Hilldale Ace. It seems like home.

The woman working the paint is not very helpful. She wasnt able to help guide my wife through paint selection. She mixed the paint and didnt even let her see what the color looked like at the end. Pretty anti-climatic way to end our hunt for paint for our daughters first room. We were excited about this color, but this ruined the experience. Overall, its a pretty terrible way to run your customer service if you are trying to compete against stores like Home Depot for business. I think that Ace should reevaluate their employees ability to serve the customer. Were never going back to this store again, or any ACE hardware.
