If you like museums and have about 3 to 4 hour to kill then this is the place for you!!!! It was my sisters birthday for we had a girls day and we started it at the museum. Im from the area but had never been to the museum, yes shame on me. We enjoyed finding people and places we know and the costumes were unbelievable....my sister took over a 100 pictures and hasnt sheared not a one. So all I can do is say is make sure this is on your bucket list for sure.

This museum is primarily showing beautiful king and queen coronation apparel. They also have a variety of other Mardi Gras costumes covering over 100 years of celebration in Mobile. They also have some remarkably well preserved paper posters including paintings of parade floats. Well worth the admission. They offer very good discounts for military and seniors. This will be a place I will recommend to visitors.

We stopped by today because we were wanting to learn more about the history of Mardi Gras, this museum has lots to offer, it can take about 2 hours to do the whole tour, they have a phone service you can use to have a guided tour, prices are reasonable, $8 for adults, $3 for kids and $6 for military or seniors. I recommend stopping by if you are visiting Mobile!

I got lots of amazing pictures and videos. I went late, so I rushed through. I spent about 45 minutes in total there. I would go back though just to experience it more leisurely.

We opted to do the telephone tour, because we just missed the start of a tour, and didnt want to impose. I was taking a few photos of some of the displays when the docent giving the guided tour came to us and asked if we were informed about the phone guided tours. I answered in the affirmative and he stared at my phone and proceeded to say, You do know what youre doing, right? Otherwise, youre just looking at pretty things. The condescending tone of the guide was such a turn off that we left. Everyone else was amazing, and Im sure the rest of the museum was great, but to be talked to in that manner was not called for.

You cannot miss this museum! It was so interesting and the costumes were out of this world. We had a private tour and he gave us a detailed account of the Mardi Gras history and culture in Mobile. There is also a clear explanation of the mystic societies that date back to 19th century. The masqued balls, the parades, the costumes - all these traditions continue today. We saw some unbelievable King and Queen attire, a video presenting the court, elaborate (and coveted) invitations to the masqued balls. There is also a float you can stand on and pretend you are throwing beads to the thousands of people that line the parade routes up to 3 weeks before Ash Wednesday.I will say this again: this is a MUST SEE museum on your visit to Mobile.
