Its incredibly hard to get fresh food here. So much money is wasted for people trying to save because the produce goes bad so quickly if it isnt already moldy. We end up throwing out so much food that should last for a week or more just within days of buying, and a lot of food items on the shelves are already expired. Its also very difficult to get allergen friendly items either due to expiration or restocking issues. The employees are great and always so kind. The sushi bar exceeds expectations.
The commissary has all your basic needs. Has shelves stocked for the most part. I’d avoid going the first few days of start of each SOS.
Dwindling supplies, empty shelves. I wish they would clean the flower beds in front of store...looks like they do not care about appearances. Or is it possible they know something we dont....closing for good.
Like any other commissary on a military installation. Lots of employees, everywhere, but Noone able to help with anything because they are all so busy. Somehow out of whatever it is your looking for, but theres tons of other stuff you dont need. The place is clean. The staff is very short. Seems like they might be polite if you spend the next few years becoming their friend. But thats about your only chance.Produce is pretty poor. Meat selection is lacking. Normally the only real savings is on beef, but in todays market, you dont even really see that much of any savings there. I avoid unless its a trip of pure convenience.
Needs better lighting, more AC, better prices and the self checkout for produce is never correct.
Cheap meat. Produce spoils too fast.
Best place to grocery shop, best prices, no empty shelves.
Always satisfied with my shopping experience at Maxwell Commissary.
Enjoy shopping there and only problem was there the cash traders turns on everything went out of servants at the same time will I go back yes or will
All good except look for the expiration dates on thing. Butter on the cold case was expired two weeks ago.
Good grab and go options for lunch.
Commissary has been stocked fairly well. Still complaining about frozen foods being left out in aisles for stocking, with no one around to do so, & items getting warm. Saw fresh pork out & it was warm to the touch. Watch scanning if you can, charged 3 times for 1 item. Office personnel not very personable when having to refund money.
Such a great commissary. They have a fabulous selection of food and other products! Great organization! Love this commissary
The staff here are super nice. I even had staff visiting from another store ask me if I was finding everything I was looking for... And then walked me to where the item I was looking for was.
You can not beat their prices! Very helpful and affordable for the military people staying here. However it can be pretty hard to get fresh produce from them. A lot of times they are moldy or spoiled already on the shelf. We get them from Whole Foods who does a great job of keeping fresh stock (but theyre expensive and 15-25 min away depending on if your in Montgomery or Prattville/Millbrook. For everything else though, it seriously cant be beat.
Good selection & friendly staff. Best location for canned goods, cereal and meats.
Love the maxwell commissary
Very pleasant. Great customer service.
The cashier had 4 items of mine left to ring up and I would be done.... but no. The cashier stops, goes to another register to ring someone up that was buying cigarettes. I waited 15 minutes before the cashier came back to ring up my last 4 items.
Really enjoyed it. I had a deli of a time.
Not crowded. Pleasant atmosphere, Friendly, Professional staff, Beautiful music. With the exception of Lysol ( of any kind) and Clorox, all of the items that I shopped for were readily available.I do realize its the trend of current events thats dictating grocery pricing.Overall, a positive experience.
I enjoy shopping here! Very friendly! Very clean!Service was Great!
A1. Very helpful staff. It appears that stock is resuming pre pandemic levels.
Great place to get food
Just dont go at the beginning of the month!!! Great service and selection.
They often have stock issues, and this includes before COVID. But the Maxwell commissary is convenient and usually quick. Glad they out in self checkout lanes, even if they are often broken...
Enjoy shopping there
Nice and clean outside and inside.
I dont go every often but I fine good deals
Nice grocery store
Shelves are looking pretty bare the last few trips.
My go to Grocery shop. Always has what I need.
I love that they started carrying fresh salmon, cod, tilapia, and other fresh seafood selections. Weve tried them all and have been impressed, no need to go to Publix for seafood anymore!
No chicken 🐔 wings
The prices are very good. Just be sure to pay attention to expiration dates because it will often be expired items on the shelves.
Noticed (on many occasions) that frozen and refrigerated food was left sitting in stacks of boxes, waiting for stockers, long enough to start frozen foods thawing and have fresh meats (pork in this case) warm to the touch. Have seen frozen Turkeys stacked so high in the freezer that the Turkeys on top had thawed! We have not brought meat or frozen food here for years for that reason. Have brought this to the attention of management a few times (a few years ago) - there has been no change.
There was no meat to select from very limited items
They had very good prices but I didnt see the sign that said that you couldnt have. but 2 items of the same thing but I did enjoy shoping their
Well, its not what it used to be. Shopped there 1978-1987, 1992-present. In the last 5 years it has gone down hill. Walmart beats the prices. Stocking of the shelves and freezers seem to be a low priority. Sad.
Good service and food
Not a good commissary. Way too many employees standing around doing nothing. The stockers work in slow motion. Items from the meat department that have bar codes do not work at checkout. An employee has to force the sale at the register. Too many people handing your groceries. Why are baggers still there during the pandemic? Other commissary’s stoped using badgers. The employees throw your groceries around and break open the packages. Adult leadership is needed in this commissary.
Always clean and well organized.
Max AFB Commissary offers active duty/retired military personnel top quality products at the very best of pricing. Recognizable savings are realized at the cash register. This is a significant benefit to those who are and who have served in the military services. BRAVO!
Great prices but certain items not related to the epidemic seem hard to come by (e.g. brown sugar cream cheese)
Very good services
On the plus side: everyone must wear a mask and the prices are really good. The employees are friendly. The not-so-positive side: they only had two regular check out registers open.
Was pretty impressed with the amount of weapons cleaning supplies available. Store was spacious and clean.
Utter failure to stock cleaning supplies, even on the base!! Either that or even the military shoppers engage in stockpile theft like everywhere else in the city. Gross. At least theres a decent self-checkout section - you dont see that at many commissaries. Something is seriously wrong with this city when even now, in the middle of July, they have supply problems. COVID leadership failure? Yep.
Thank you to the fantastic staff and team at the commissary. Always friendly & helpful. Your presence & efforts are truly appreciated.
Uncrowded, prices back down to pre-Covid insanity, baggers very friendly and effcient.
Super Commissary, well stocked and huge. This is a great place to get your groceries. They are closed on Mondays but open on Sundays. The have a huge selection of merchandise and you can find nearly anything here. The prices are good and they have self check-out. Most of the staff is polite.
Great deals! On Tuesday they are always slammed, but definitely a pleasant shopping experience and great deals! $2.39 for a case of water is unheard of everywhere else!
Good day to shop...not many customers, which I like. Didnt get everything on my list, especially Turkey Breast.
Good selection
We were looking for certain things. We needed lemons and the ones they had in the bag were very small. They were not what we needed.
Very friendly. Very helpful. Clean.
As usual there were large holes in the inventory and no sanitary wipes were available because no one had replaced them ? About par for this poorly run commissary .
Nice and the employees are helpful.
Excellent shopping experience
Pretty good. No fresh fish though. Meat and produce are satisfactory. Grocery items are very well priced compared to stores off base.
Has the basic selection of military grocery store merchandise, but the prices are a little higher for most things: veggie patties, nuts and chips and a few other things. The staff is very friendly, and it hasnt seemed crowded everythime Ive been there. Good place to grab some grub.
A few things about the Commissary...Maxwell Commissary now has a store brand called Freedoms Choice. I have found that some items you do save money compared to, say, Del Monte. On a lot of items its only 2 or 3 cents. (I do believe a penny saved is a penny earned.) However, the quality of Freedoms Choice leaves a lot to be desired. My experience has been limp, tasteless vegetables. I havent tried them all yet so well see.The second thing is, you have to watch the prices closely. My last shopping trip I was buying Doritos. The regular bag of Doritos was $3.35, but the party size bag was 3.02. The same thing with popcorn...6 pack of Act II was $3.05 and the 12 pack was $3.25. So for .20 cents you get another whole six pack. This happens with a lot of items. Check the larger size cost against the smaller. You may not always want the larger size but in some cases youll be saving money.Last but not least, 🙂 you have to check the expiration dates. I was buying olive oil and when I checked the expiration date, it was already expired! There are only 2 of us so I always check the date and I have found this throughout the store. Its happened with bread, milk, eggs, canned goods, bacon and other items. So, check those dates. Have a great day!
Great prices and great shopping experience.
If youre going around payday (especially the 1st) expect large crowds and pretty empty shelves. Some prices better elsewhere. Meat prices fantastic.
Helpful, clean and had just what I wanted
This place seems to be going downhill not sure if it is under new management or what, but they never seem to stock the shelves, I shop there a lot and this is not a one time thing. Today they dont even have cashiers until about 10 minutes after opening so you had folks with full shopping carts trying to check out in the self checkouts. Not very organized.
Prices have gone up!
It is always super HOT in this store. This doesnt make sense for it to be so hot. I feel so bad for the employees that work in these conditions. Please turn on some air it is to hot.
Been using for 50 years.
I was in the area, and needed a few items for the pets. It was getting late so this was not the time to do casual shopping. The isles were wide enough to navigate two carts. I will have to make another trip, didnt get to look all the new items on the shelves.
As Military Commissaries go, this one is older, but still a good stop when I am headed back home after long road trip (considering the time yet to go, and the fact that my regular Commissary would be even further past my final stop .. this is convenient).Got some basics here .. as others noted, some lacking in stocks, but there are culinary items available here that are harder to find outside Military stores.
Experience was bad. Lots of outdated products on shelves, lots of empty spaces where products should have been, 1 week before holidays and a huge shortage of holiday groceries, 12 lbs being the biggest turkey availble, huge # of available tellers today but most times tellers are lacking, prices seem to have increased over the odds, freezers in non repair. All together a disgracefull place that needs new management and workers.
Great place. Selection. Price. Staff.
Nice, clean store. Staff is pretty helpful. Pricing can be off at times, and prices need to be double checked. Pretty good overall.
Always good service
Always appreciate buying groceries at a place where Military and family members are the primary employees. ALWAYS very polite, helpful, courteous and the store is well stocked and clean.
On base grocery store for military and retirees. Updated and modern, with really nice selection that rivals any commercial grocery.
Never have enough items available. Compared to outside prices some prices are too high. Suggest restocking when needed. I know its discult @ times but customers satisfy considered. Why my opinion it will never be taken under consideration.
Work this store daily; clean, great prices, hard working folks. Good deal for the guys and gals who protect us everyday. Thanks for your service.
Great when TDY for PME. They have all the little things that youd expect.
Changed self checkout and eliminated the 2 unlimited lanes and then had only 1 regular lane open!
Outstanding personnel.
Pleasently surprised. This is one of the better commissary experiences. Well stocked, but even on a Saturday it wasnt overwhelmingly busy.
Customer service needs an overhaul as well as EBT checkout training. Prices are better than in town but could be even better. There are a lot of products that are gone even on paydays, which shouldnt happen. There is no attention given to requests for products. But most importantly, it is a safe store.
They always have sales. Great prices and always in stock.
Nice commissary. No ATM inside or in front of store.
Maxwell has slightly larger selection than Gunter. I shop Maxwell on weekends and Gunter during the week since I work here.Currently, Maxwell is the only place in town that carries my favorite peanut butter, White Chocolate Wonderful 😋😋😋
Level cement pads, with picnic tables, a division ample space for a vehicle as well. Some sites have covered patios.looks like the long term folks have most of these . Very well kept area especially the combo rest rooms/showers in individually locking doors. One new restroom/shower facility with 8 units and a laundry facility and plans to replace a similar older facility. Manager seems to really be on top of things. Grounds well kept. Some aircraft noise and train noise. Did not bother is much last night (our first night).
I like shopping here when Im on days because the prices are great and it helps that you dont have to go off base. I will definitely be shopping here in the future theres no question of that I love the atmosphere and I love the people
The prices are GREAT! The vegetables are fresh. And the customer service is good. Very clean and the shelves are normally stock well.
Lots of items way cheaper. For example: Tyson chicken in water, Publix in Alabaster $3.99. Maxwell $2.30. Meat and chicken seem to be high quality and affordable. Recommend to anyone.
Enjoy myself each time I am there. While I am there I experience the most pleasant employees as well as other customers.A Lovely place to shop, site see and visit.
I love this place. Its always clean and stocked, and it hurt that they have some of the best prices on meat.
The staff is friendly. This is the only Commissary I have shopped where the staff actually talk to me with a smile. Customer service is important. Keep up the great work!
Well put together. They have a great staff and the produce and meats are always fresh.
Excellent variety and good prices for groceries.
Right on Time.
Fairly small commissary but has a good variety of food items
Quick in and out for a Friday afternoon. Well stocked for most items, but out of stock for three of the items I was looking for.
