This ice cream parlor is a quick grab and go place (no seating inside but plenty outside). Its terrific ice cream. They have a plethora of flavors to choose from and you can customize the way you want it, in 3 sizes, as a cone or sundae, etc. I found my small mango ice cream ($4.25) pretty good - texture, flavor, quality and quantity was just right. Its in the vicinity of a lot of great restaurants so this is a good choice for a post dinner dessert.
Have a good variety of delicious ice creams... We got hazelnut and chocolate hazelnut; highly recommend
If you havent had Gelato ice cream, you havent lived. Its as simple as that. And if youre going for the first time, make sure you get the smallest size with two flavors in the cup, because youll be astounded at all of the creamy gooey goodness you get in even the smallest cup.So, to avoid feeling like a fool and being forced to beg strangers to help you finish you treat, be aware. And where might you find those strangers? Perhaps in the charming outside seating, as Mountain View has thankfully closed Castro St to cars (though there is still cross traffic), and Gelato Classico Italian Ice Cream is in the middle of the block with other restaurant seating all around. Theres also some lovely trees. All in all, a destination not to be missed if youre looking for a quick desert after a meal, or a bit of a happy to cool down during these hot days.
This was my first time at this particular Gelato Classico shop. While it didnt have my favorite flavors on hand I was very satisfie d with my selection, mint chip. It was a warm afternoon so the mint chip really hit the spot.,The shop was clean and the staff was friendly. They gave generous tastes of several flavors and added their own recommendations. The staff wasnt pushy just helpful. I would definitely go back.
Very average dark chocolate ice cream. Super gooey but not as creamy as I expected. It was more airy and so not as striking on the tongue.
Best option in Mtn View for a treat. Holds up well against the newer ice cream shops. My favorite!
If you are looking for gelatos/sorbets, this place is worth the visit. They have multiple selections and you can combine two to four different flavors depending on the cup size. All the flavors were tasty and we had a relaxing afternoon enjoying the warm weather.
It is a gelato place located in Mountain View Downtown. It is a small gelato shop, but the gelato is well made and tasty. It has a lot of flavors, mixture of sorbet and creamy flavors. All the flavors are not too rich or creamy, so you dont feel really heavy after you had a full cup of it. The service & wait time had significantly improved compare to before COVID, and you can paid by credit card now. Before COVID, you can only pay by cash and the line is always super long, so sometimes you have to wait for 30 to 40 minutes to get the gelato. Now it has more servers and line is not as long as before, so it is much faster now. And the gelato remain same the quality as before.I really like its Pistachio and Coconut with Macadamia Nut, not only they taste great, they also have big chunk of real nuts inside. Also I like their Lychee and Strawberry, both have strong taste of the real fruit. The chocolate covered strawberry is good too, you can really taste the hint of chocolate in the strawberry gelato and the sweetness is well balanced.Pistachio and Lychee
Creme Brulee ice cream was not as good as in years past. Sugars not dark enough and tastes a bit freezer burnt.
Delicious! I personally had the sorbets and all 3 flavors were really good. My partner tried the Gelato float and definitely one of a kind!
Great selection. Delicious gelato. Knowledgeable staff.
Best gelato ice cream shop in bay area. My favorite was key lime pie gelato. They offer you up to three flavors in a single cup, so you can try many varieties at once.
Favorite gelato in the bay, creamy and delicious. Their most underrated flavour is the Orange Dreamsicle. So rare to find a light citrus flavour like orange come in a rich gelato with sweet cream, instead of a tart sorbet. Love! 🍦
So many flavors and helpful staff. Extremely good, theres a reason theyve won so many awards in a row!
Staff is chill and the ice cream is AMAZING its been super popular for years and for good reason. If youre in the area and have never tried it do yourself a favor AND GET SOME GELATO ITS SO DAMN GOOD I CANNOT STRESS THAT ENOUGH!!
Amazing ice-cream!! A must try
Not even close to real gelato. Flavorless Chocolate Hazelnut and Strawberry Fresca. And $6 for 2 small scoops.
Highly rated for a reason: I recommend the Pistachio ice cream
Very expensive for basic gelato.
Long time favorite on Castro. No surprise theyve outlasted nearly every other Castro establishment!
The lemon Sorbet is one of the best flavors to get during the hot summer days.
Absolutely amazing, some of the best gelato I have ever had!!!!
Loved the dark chocolate gelato!
Very icy, doesnt test anything like Italian gelato.
I was craving ice cream while walking on castro and this one was on my way to where I was headed so gave it a shot.I liked that they had clean flavors and not too many option for you to go nuts! They had ample variety of ice creams as well as sorbets. I tried the pistachio but it wasnt great (its my preferred flavor of gelato) so I settled for the chocolate one. It was nice and had a clean taste of the cocoa powder so loved it. Had it on a cone as I didnt want to carry plastic cups and spoons.Price was $3 and some change with a good sized portion. I dont like big ice cream portions where dessert becomes a meal so I was happy they dont put too much in 1 single scoop.
Takes me back to an earlier time. Such good flavors!
Got a cone of the mint chip. Very delicious and true to form. Definitely recommend if you are walking by or in the area.
Smells amazing when youre walking up. Hands down the best gelato
So many flavors. All delicious. Worth visiting. Especially in warmer weather.
The same treat for so many years in downtown mountain view.
Great selection of tasty ice cream
Love the variety, great COVID measures and awesome tiramsu gelato
We have been eating Ive cream from Gelato classico for a long time. Whenever my parents visit us they only eat the Pistachio flavor here .We have tried a lot of different flavours over the years. Our favorite flavors are Pistachio,Tiramisu,Cookie and cream, Spumoni, Walnut coffee . Now during Covid they have made a few Pint size boxes ready to take . We went there 2 weeks back and Pistachio was already ready to pick. We just mixed Tiramisu and Cookies and cream for kids in another Pint. It was a fast and easy transaction especially now during Covid.
Its alright with 5 star prices?
This is a very popular ice cream parlor on Castro street. I guess one of the oldest and I could see many prizes and credits on the wall. I liked the ice creams and the flavors. They are good but I would not say exceptionally great. Decent place. Price is reasonable.
Simply delicious. Highly recommend green tea, strawberry and chocolate chip strawberry!!
A personal favorite. This place used to have the oddest hours.... But now it seems like its open all the time. A grumpy old man used to run to place, but I think his wife runs the place. Everyone there is a delight to talk to and are very helpful. Definitely a great place to stop by if you are on Castro!
Love the cookies and cream here! The staff is very cheerful too!
Best of the best! Tiramisu gelato is one of a kind!
The best gelato in mtv.
Excellent gelato! I tried the dark chocolate 🍫 and cherry 🍒 flavors, and both were very good. Cherry had lots of fruit pieces in every bite. It went great together too. I also tried a taste of the honey lavender, which was interesting. Good, but not something Id want an entire cup of I think. Very flowery. If you like lavender, you will love it.
The ice cream was great, the consistency being different than what you normally find in the US (of course). The flavors differ almost as much as what youd find at baskin robbins. While the inside of the store doesnt have much in terms of tables/ chairs, just outside does provide additional seating which works in a pinch. The staff was super friendly and they offered plenty of taste tests! Will make this my go-to!
Havent had Spumoni this good since the years I spent in Italy. There just arent enough stars to properly rate this ice cream. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It truly is made in the Italian tradition by Italian folks who came to California decades ago and established themselves in the SF Bay Area, where they have earned (rightfully so) the recognition as the best ice cream every year for more than 20. Its like walking into an ice cream shop in Rome or Torino.
Ive been coming here for 35 years used to be located at the old El Camino bowl thats no longer exist they moved to downtown mountain view about 25 years ago this is the best gelato you can get!! The owner is really nice too. You cant go wrong with the chocolate Carmelo crunch or if you want a little buzz get the vanilla bean you will get jacked up on caffeine. Pistachios another great flavor.
Love this place! An amazing selection of gelato. And they used to only accept cash but they now accept credit cards and Apple pay. My daughter loved it!
Best Gelato in town. Hard to eat ice cream after eating the Gelato here. So fresh, and amazingly tasty.
Delicious icecreams!!! You can get two different icecreams in a single cup. Waffles are bit too eggy but icecreams are really great. Both gelato and sorbet are available with great taste. Delicious dessert after great meal at the Castro!!
Been going here for 20 years, still no one can beat it I always come for more
Gelato was not gelato...but kind of goooey mess. Freezer not at right temperature maybe. Not going there snymore
Nice gelato and sorbet place! Would definitively recommend the hazelnut gelato. When you visit do not forget to try different flavors
Delicious
Good local ice cream shop. Theyve a variety of great flavors, my current favorite is banana walnut.
Nothing like real Italian gelato, just ice cream nothing special.
One of our 2 favorite ice-cream places in the Bay Area, along with Bi-Rite Creamery in San Francisco. This place makes the best tiramisù gelato that Ive ever had. Overall really good, high-quality gelato.
The line is always way too long, and Im not sure how you can justify having one person working on a busy Sunday evening in the summer when the line is out the door. The older gentleman (owner?) should have more of a sense of urgency if he is going to be the only worker. He was offering samples that no one requested, as well as taking phone calls and eating ice cream himself all while there was a small crowd that had formed. The approach seems more in touch with rural Italy in the summertime than anything you would typically see around here.
This place serves some of the best gelato in the Bay area! The flavour variety is HUGE you can taste them all you want before you actually decide to buy one. The coffee and chocolate flavours would be my recommendationThe only downside is the time taken to actually get your order. The line is very slow and its because of average service
The only place I go for Rum and Raisin.. its awesome!
What a great place! First of all, the ice cream is delicious. There is a huge selection of flavors(and a bunch of non dairy options) and also a few different cones. Its a simple, to the point place without any fireworks, just great ice cream. The guy that works there (I assume hes the owner) is incredibly patient - he insisted on letting my son taste all there varieties of strawberry ice cream and waited for the 2 year old to make up his mind, taking all the time in the world. You dont get this often and I appreciated this a lot.
It’s cute and really the only option in Mountain View ... but, the gelato has that slimy frost-bitten taste to it; just look closely and you’ll see the freezer-burn. My recommendation is avoid unless desperation has set-in. Icicles is right down the street if you need a cold sweet fix.
Excellent choice of flavors. And they are happy to put two flavors in a small cup so that can you sample both. Voted Best of Mountain View for the last few years. Often has a long line, but worth it.
Really great ice cream! They let you get two flavors when you buy a small, which isnt something many ice cream places do. Cookies and cream and chocolate make for a great combo. Depending on the time you go the line can get really long, but its generally worth the wait. Id give it 5 stars but its a little on the pricey side for the amount that you get.
The salted caramel and honey lavender are phenomenal flavors. I also sampled the balsamic strawberry, which simply blew me away. Great place for great ice cream.
I got 3 flavors. Both Fresh ginger and pistachio is really great. Chocolate hazelnut is better.
Its like a night club. The owners like to have a queue on the street to create hype. Ice cream is good but you need 20-30 mins for your number.
Very tasty ice cream. Its texture was super. Different flavors. Everytime I visited Castro street, a long queue in front of this shops especially during night. Worth to wait in the queue for a very delicious ice cream. Highly recommend.
Amazing gelato. I came here 3 times each time being tasty and each time it got better and better. Would recommend to anyone.
This store has always long lines and I was wondering about how tasty should be the ice cream worth waiting for almost hours. Today was the lucky day, there were no lines; I bought a regular size with three different flavors. It tastes OK; nothing special about it. There are better places though.
Great every time I go.
Ive been here two times and enjoyed all the flavors I sampled. Some of the best gelato Ive had anywhere in the US or even Italy.
The very high hopes from this place werent completely met. It could be because I went just before the closing time and only a couple of flavors were remaining. While the coffee gelato itself wasnt great, an additional star for the sweet owner and his dedicated service.
This is the best ice cream I have ever had. I waited in line over 30 minutes and it was worth it. There is a world class ice cream shop near my home, and this place blew them out of the water. I would gladly and patiently wait over an hour for one scoop. This is the best ice cream!
The strawberry sorbet is addicting. Cant get enough. I like to get the strawberry and mango sorbets. Try eating it with the sample spoon! Its much better that way. Its in my top 2 ice cream places in the Bay area along with Birite.
Very good ice cream. It has many awards.
It was yum yum and also there were mirrors everywhere to look at my bootiful face
Their cherry burgundy, and ginger flavours are simply sublime!
The line was extremely long, only one server most of the time. Then we ordered 2 small tubs - dark chocolate and pistachio in one, and pumpkin and caramel pecan in the other. The dark chocolate was good, the pumpkin OK, but the nut flavours tasted off. In addition temperature outside was in the low 50s, but a good 80% of the gelato was basically semi-melted slush. Too bad. :(
Lately got new deco and staff. Accept cards now. Try fresh strawberry and coconut macadamia nut.
Best gelato
AMAZING GELATO!! So many flavors to choose from too. Great service and very clean.
By far one of the smoothest and creamiest gelato spots on this side of the bridge. Not that theres much competition. The lines are generally 35 min long; its usually the owner working by himself and if youre lucky, him and an employee. Though, even with two people working, lines still move slow. They encourage people to sample their flavors and boy, do people sample.
If you have unlimited time and nothing to do with your freaken life then come over here and waste your time. It is a crime to waste people’s time this guy should close the shop and help everyone to have extra 55 minutes. The owner put lots of the best of 2001 to 2018 etc on the shop. I wonder how come its the best ? When there is only one shop around here. But once you have the gelato in your hand and taste it then you will feel this is one of the best you ever had. And also this guy who is over 75 and still working deserves some respect. Actually he is a very nice person once you reach him. Reaching him is the problem 😊
Decent gelato if you want gelato. Chain fare. Coffee flavors need to be stronger to deserve that label. Chocolates are OK.
I absolutely love cherry and banana favors here. Quality of gelato is greatThere is only one person working at a time so expect to wait before you actually get to eat. But I am confident you will not be disappointed.Go for it
