I brought my 45 year old Sherwood turntable in after it stopped working . I was devastated. I searched and found Hi Tech and their excellent reviews . They werent lying . Tom was amazing with his knowledge and skill. While it was an easy fix (for him) he went to work and fixed it in 10 minutes. I am very grateful and happy for his swift action . You cant go wrong at Hi Tech or with Tom . Thank you so much .π
Are you still in business??? Tried calling many times during one of the only 2 days you are open during a week, and cannot get an answer. Verizon recording saying the called party is not available.
Its really sad that this place is closing down in July. Tom and the other tech do awesome work on vintage audio equipment and their turn around time is really reasonable. Alex worked on an Akai reel to reel deck for me and the price wasnt back for something this old. And a Mexican restaurant is going in here? Just what Nashville needs is another Americanized Mexican restaurant. These repair shops are getting fewer and fewer and in this throw away society, we need to keep vintage tech from going in the landfill.
Awesome! Polite, friendly, quick.Alas, I am sad they are closing.HAPPY RETIREMENT TOM.
This place is the last bastion of a dying breed of shops that do these types of repairs. I have never brought in a single item he couldnt fix. We are lucky to have this level of expertise in our city.
Very knowledgeable and extremely helpful! So pleased we found this place.
Best place for vintage repair. I own older Paradigm and Infinity speakers. This are high end and self powered units. Multiple items, all repaired and working great. Not sure how I would have gotten them repaired. Great service and great repairs. Very straight forward and cost effective. Thanks.
This place is amazing! Sadly because im old I cannot remember the gentlemans name/sorry sir! But he is friendly and a wealth of audio knowledge! He patiently answered over a half hour of technical questions I had and various other inquiries! I have been there 4 times and have found a fabulous vintage purchase each time! I really like the place! Very cool! Plan to go back soon!
When my 40yr old Onkyo reciever stopped working one day I was at a total loss, to say the least! Calling around for months not finding any solution or even a solid lead on where to go, I reluctantly came to the realization that I would have to buy something new. I was heartbroken, I DIDNT WANT SOMETHING NEW! If youve been lucky enough to experience the sound and quality of the older electronic equipment you know what I mean! I dont want all of the extras of newer units, just that warm rich sound. So Kris at Music City was honest and so helpful to refer me to Tom at High Tech Services. Tom knew in a few minutes what was wrong with my reciever, gave me an estimate, they called me the same day to say it would be ready for pick up the next day they were open. The total cost was 1/4 of what another shop was going to charge me, with no guarantee that they could even fix it! Wow! What a difference honesty and knowledge makes! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have music again! I would recommend this shop to anyone needing repair work done! Fast, super friendly, and an amazing staff! I will never go anywhere else!
Helpful staff, solid info, and neat vintage gear!
Phil does a great job, honest, fair pricing
Everything I have brought to these guys have fixed and done it well and for a good price top notched repairman awesome knowledge of equipment.
A couple of weeks ago my amp of 30 years went out. I was at a complete loss. This equipment has very special meaning. Luckily the talented folks at High Tech Service had my baby back to new in no time flat. The experience was awesome. Thank you!
DO NOT GO HERE. They charge $60 for an estimate only to tell you itβs going to cost more money for a repair. Total was more than buying a new record player I wanted repaired and the estimate was nonrefundable that they definitely did not disclose upfront. Donβt waste your time or money, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
A friend got her old receiver repaired for less than she had been quoted else where. Not sure it gets better than that.
Awesome little shop and some very helpful staff. Took in a vintage stereo receiver to get checked out and they were great at keeping me in the loop about what they found and what my options were. Would highly recommend.
I took a custom stereo to the shop and the people were so friendly. They helped tremendously and were very enthusiastic about the project. 100% recommend.
They repaired my Vestax turntable for a reasonable price despite a shortage on parts.
Friendly staff. Good selection of vintage audio gear. Decent prices. If you dont see what you want, just ask. They may know where to find it, or it may come in later. Their inventory changes often.
Hi-Tech is easily the best place in town to get your audio/video equipment re-tuned. Theyre personable, affordable, skilled, and best of all, trustworthy. They might not have the best follow up process, but I dont have any challenges with making a phone call to see where things are in the process. If you need a phone call to let you know youre equipment is ready, Best Buy might be a better option for you.
We bought a great used record player here a few months ago and its been a great experience. We recently dropped off a classic receiver and tape deck to be serviced, the last time they were serviced my Dad drove them down from his home in Kentucky for the exact same service. The people are friendly and knowledgeable, while waiting other costumers came in and they knew them all by name. Its a wonderful place to get any HiFi equipment serviced and to find great prices on used serviced equipment.
Left my Peavey 6 channel mixer amp with them Thursday and they called me that afternoon and said a diode needed to be replaced and advised me of the charges. I picked it up Friday. They have always been prompt and professional with me. I recommend them for your vintage equipment repairs.
I called first to explain my issue with my M-Audio BX5 D2 studio monitors before bringing them in, and they were super patient in listening to what was wrong. In the end, I took them to Hi Tech Service to get them fixed. Everybody who I met that worked there was super cool. The front desk girl has a super cool and friendly personality, and the guy who worked on my speakers was great, too. It felt like I was giving my speakers to an uncle rather than a stranger. Its hard to explain, but it just felt right. Anwway, he had the problem figured out in basically 2 minutes and fixed them up very quickly, and it only cost me about $20. Id for sure bring my stuff to them again.
Awesome service, the owner is VERY knowledgeable... If you want to have your piece of equipment fixed properly, then go here. A++++
I sent in two high end cassette decks for repair. The repairs were done well and the equipment returned in fantastic condition. I will keep using them. The receptionist is very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The owner called me to consult on some problems and the equipment was returned in a very short time.Others who are having problems are probably bringing in cheap Chinese junk and expecting miracles. Ordering parts is sometimes a long process especially if they have to be ordered from overseas.I would give them six (6) stars if possible.
The service doesnt get any better than at Hi Tech Service. Thanks Again.Rick Workman
The people are so nice, helpful, and knowledgeable. Id recommend 100% for anyone that is trying to get an audio related repair. Best in town.
What to expect:You will drop off your gear, pay $50 for the assessment fee - this goes towards the cost of repair. You will wait a couple of weeks and then receive a call with a very reasonable estimate. If you agree to the quote, you should expect to pick up your gear within just a few days!
I was referred to them by Sharp. My IR module we out on my 60. The lady on the phone was the rudest Ive experienced in a long time. It took all I could to not just hang up on her. I usually dont write reviews, but had to. I would never take anything here...and after reading these other reviews, this behavior is par for the course. If they every wonder why their business is down, have them look at their customer service.
Great experience getting my old Pioneer SX-1010 receiver repaired - it is now functioning flawlessly. If you have new gear maybe its not worth repairing, but if you have the old-school heavy stuff this is definitely the place to go. Told me up front they were a month behind and sure enough called me at one month on the dot - and it was well worth the wait.
Been using these guys for years. They know their stuff and do a great job at very fair price. From my Pioneer Kuro Plasma to Mackie reference speakers, theyve greatly extended the life of my electronics.
Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.Liars. Scanners. Rude. Possibly incompentent? I wouldnt know, in three and half months Ive seen zero example of their work.Dropped a record player off the first week of September. I was given a time frame of three weeks. That was a lie. The first week of November, I threatened to come and pick it back up and finally someone got around to LOOKING at it, not fixing it, LOOKING AT IT.At this point, what was supposed to be a simple fix to the power supply becomes something that needs to be sent off. Itll take two weeks. That was a month and a half ago. I called last Monday to ask and was told Id get a call back. Never happened. I call back today and tell them of dont get answers this week Ill be up there to pick it up and he can deal with a lawyer about the fact that my player is torn apart and a part of it off in Michigan... Oh, and this place the parts been sent to? I cant call them. It doesnt have a name. He claims hell email the guy and check in and call me back.He mocked me saying no lawyer would take my case, and told me I must be having a lousy Christmas to call him first thing this angry. No. Ive been being scammed and lied to for nearly four months and Im done. This place is garbage. Avoid at all costs. The other Google reviews are not exaggerating. I told the owner that I shouldve trusted the reviews and he told me to check Yelp instead. Theyve also seemingly closed their Facebook reviews after having only one five star review so it will forever reflect good service. This is not good service. Seriously. Avoid.
Great staff & excellent service. Awesome speaker repair! They know what theyre doing here!!
My grandfather tipped me off to this place when he was still around and said it was the only place heβd ever take his old receivers for repairs. It was right around the corner from his house and occasionally weβd go in to chat with Tommy and look at all the fancy stuff they had for sale. I was a kid then and didnβt really understand why a place like this is so important to Nashville. Now Iβm in my mid 20s and I have a small collection of stereo equipment Iβd like to think is pretty good for my peer group. Whenever I need something fixed or maintained, this is the first place I look to. Itβs not because of family tradition or routine, but rather the return on investment Iβve gotten in my own time dealing with this special gem of a shop. My pair of beat up Advent OLAs came from here. My Technics SL-1200 was recently serviced here (and sounds impeccable now!). My future vintage 2 channel amp for a future dedicated listening space will for sure come from here too, because I know that what I get will have been serviced by people that know the trade and are willing to clue you in on things you may not have known.Hi Tech Service is a Nashville treasure and one of the many reasons I want to settle down here with my own family someday. Look to them whenever your old Sansui receiver craps out or your turntable needs aligning or really anything else you can think of!
Always friendly, knowledgeable, honest, and reasonable about prices.
I received good customer service and the price I paid for the product was inexpensive.
Straight forward people with great knowledge of old vintage gear. Can fix just about anything audio.
The negative ads are problem clients that wouldnt be satisfied regardless. Yes, the place is busy, but for good reason and they tell you that. Im a practicing electrical engineer and could have fixed my receiver but didnt want to invest the required learning and diagnostic time. Boy am I glad I didnt. They fixed my receiver in the specified timeframe for just the 50 dollar diagnostic fee by reflowing some solder joints THEY knew to be problematic. Im back to watching movies on my receiver for the cost of a family lunch. I will never bother working on home electronics as long as this business is around.
I had my Sansui G9000 repaired. I brought it to them after working on it myself and having the selector knob snap off! It had faced years of abuse prior to my getting it and had not been cleaned for some time. Although they took several weeks to work on this, they did a great job. They were able to replace the broken selector knob by harvesting it from a G8000, they did some soldering work, fixed the tuner and several other things. Things like this take time and they are busy. I will definitely be bringing them my newly purchased vintage Sony STR 6055 to them to have it worked on also.
These guys are great! I got a great deal on an amp here.
Tom fixed my VCR on the spot. He charged so little I tipped him.
I wasnt so lucky. I dropped my pre-amp off and paid my non-refundable $50. After six months of phone calls and frustration, I gave up and picked it back up and sent it elsewhere. The lady receptionist was always polite but I never received a return phone call from the repairman giving me an update. The repairman was always gone or too busy to talk to me. While I was waiting for them to find my pre-amp, several other callers with the same complaints as mine talked to the receptionist. She told them the same thing - the repairman isnt in, he does not return calls and they are welcome to come get their equipment!
These guys make the 3 stooges look like Einsteins. I left a very expensive reel ot reel tape recorder for repairs and they kept it for 9 months and all they did was destroy it. They couldnt even get it put back together, which is no wonder, because after 6 weeks I came by to check the progress and they still hadnt figured out how to open the case. They told lie upon lie to cover up their incompetence and ignorance of how to even begin to repair a reel to reel recorder. Dont waste your time and money on these phonies . Also the inside of this place is filthy and looks like an earthquake hit it.
I have been to this place many times and I have always been pleased.
Really bad. really slow. not in control of their business nor their repair outlets when they have to outsource. it was pitiful. i would normally support a mom & pop WITH skillz. but these guys were a let down and poor customer communication to boot.
Great People, Great Service, Lucky to have found such a Great Service and People Friendly Repair Shop!!!
Friendly folks and speedy service!!
I read reviews of Hi Tech when I was searching for a place to service a turntable. I thought It cant be that bad IT WAS WORSE.I bring in the unit for $50 fee to troubleshoot. They had the turntable for two months before I received a call saying the headshell was missing. OK, we order a headshell. Another month goes by and they say the feet on the table didnt offer enough clearance. I asked about the mechanics and if the machine worked and they hadnt looked. I went by and asked what the $50 was for and they said diagnosis. They hadnt looked at the mechanics at all - said it needed service...These people are crooks. They do not treat customers with respect and their service is terrible. I do not know how they are in business.I would NEVER give them business. It cost me $50 to learn that lesson - hopefully this review saves you for that cost.
These people have repaired several high end amplifiers for me. Denon, and Carver amplifiers. They also repaired one of my Infinity Reference Standard Kappa 8 speakers. They are a fantastic service for those with expensive, high end electronics that are worth repairing. EXCELLENT SERVICE!!! In defense of Hi Tech, if you have cheap, made in Malaysia or korea or some other 3rd world nation, there is a trade off. That is affordable/cheap price=throw away electronics when they fail. Thats how they are designed. You have a boat anchor when they break. If you spend $1000.00 on a power amp and it fails, you can get parts, and have it repaired for under $200.00 generally. Theres a reason why cheap electronics have a year warranty, and why expensive electronics have a 5 year or 10 year warranty. DONT BUY CRAP! BUY QUALITY ELECTRONICS!!!!!!!
My tv has taken over two months to be repaired. They claimed that they never received the order from the warranty, and I had to physically go over there and wait for them to verify that they would fix the tv. THEN its taking over a month for them to order a part that they need to fix the tv, which they still dont have. Considering picking the tv up and taking it elsewhere. Will never use them again.
Great guys and good vintage gear!
Tom is a super guy. Great work.
Im gonna have to chime in with another negative review. They have had my Crown amp for over 7 months and its still not fixed. Ive called every month and they first said ordering parts, then its a tough problem, then I called them again over a week ago, and the girl up front said that she would have the tech check the status and call me right back with an update. That was over a week ago and still no return call on the status. Very poor communication obviously, and also obvious that they dont know how to fix the problem.
Top Notch Service
Fixed my receiver just as expected.
Wont even fix discs
