My boyfriend has been looking for a new guitar and had been to Carter Vintage Guitars before. We’re from out of town and didn’t realize they closed at 4:30 on Saturdays. We came flying in at 4:26 and the guy that helped us was so nice. My boyfriend was able to get a sick Jazzmaster and they even gave us a free t-shirt for hauling to get there before they close. Awesome guitars and customer service! Highly recommend!!
Wow! I was speechless walking into the main showroom. Beautiful selection of legendary vintage guitar models as well as many unusual finds, like a Hofner violin guitar and an oak-bodied nylon string. They also have vintage and high end amps, and double basses. The staff was friendly and helpful. Truly one of the coolest guitar stores in the country.
Loved it. Fun time playing vintage guitars that I would likely never spend the money on but now know what I have been missing. Pleasant staff.
What a collection they have here. So much history in here, and every instrument you pick up could have so much history behind it. Every Gibson and Martin fan needs to come take a few hours to drool over some rare old guitars and gear. The sales staff here are super friendly, especially since I expressed I couldnt afford anything in the store they still insisted I play whatever I felt like. They made me feel at home, and I was grateful to play a few of these jewels. Thanks Carters..Ill be back some day, and I bet Ill buy something!
Very very disappointed. My husband and I were in town to see Eric Clapton in concert. While here we were visiting some of the guitar shops around. When we stopped in at Carter’s I ask one of the employees about a steel guitar and told him I wanted to hear to hear it’s sound. The guys pointed to my husband and asked if he was interested in it. I clearly told him that I’m not asking for my husband, I wanted to hear it. He said they were too busy. Really, you were just standing there doing nothing else. Is it because I was a woman and you are making very bad assumptions? I know Carter’s doesn’t need my business but because of the treatment and lack of respect you lost a few thousand in sales. Hopefully you will treat future customers better.
Too often when a woman goes into a music store we get bombarded with sexist comments and talked down to or we’re just completely ignored.I love Carter’s because that never happens. I feel safe and respected each time I’m in.I walked in yesterday and left with a beautiful new Silvertone thanks to the help of staff member, Bo.I highly recommend you stop by. They’re down to earth and super helpful.
Have been to this store twice, and loved it both times. Staff is welcoming and not in your face. I love the fact that nearly everything is accessible to pick up and play. Mr.Carter can be seen regularly, and he makes a point to say hello and make you feel welcome. In awe of many of the instruments on the floor. Its just a great experience all around for the fan of music and vintage instruments.
Great selection of guitars; busy during lunch time!
Definitely the place to go in Nashville for guitar players & collectors. Great inventory & selection from lap steels to vintage acoustics. Stop by and see the Fender Statocaster used to record Sweet Home Alabama(yes, for real).
While passing through Nashville I had to stop by and check out Carter Vintage Guitars. While I didnt fall in love with any of the fine musical instruments, I did enjoy the atmosphere and the friendly staff. The ladies at the front desk were a lot of fun to chat with when they arent slammed with customers. Thanks for the great afternoon, it was worth the stop!
One of the coolest collections and sales floors in the world.
Was there to buy a banjo but I am just a beginner and was not looking for one as nice as the ones they had. Great selection though if you are looking for high end and the staff were very friendly. One of them was even nice enough to give me a recommendation for a place to find a banjo more suited for a noob like me.
I have no pictures to show because I was too busy picking my jaw off the floor. One of the coolest collection of vintage guitars I have ever seen.
It was fun to look have around in this large shop. They have a large selection of acoustic and electric guitars and mandolins. They even had a couple of upright basses, but that doesnt seem to be their specialty. It seems that they only deal in high end, very pricey instruments and amps and I dont think I saw a guitar that was under $1k.
Really cool place. Lived up to the hype, even during COVID-induced used guitar shortages, and my visits around Summer NAMM weekend.Check it out when youre in town. You might meet someone famous! I did when I was there!
Great service and really friendly staff. Found exactly the pedal I was looking for. Cant wait to go back.
Place has a pretty cool set up. The inventory was low, but that’s to be expected right now. They didn’t have public restrooms for customers and when we went to leave the door was locked. The ladies up front said to just unlock it and if we could let more people come in. It’s not that I mind helping if they were super busy but there weren’t. If you’re going to lock the door, then they should have someone manning it to let people in and out. We shouldn’t have to do that.
Cool vibe great place to buy if you got the bucks
Let me just say, I drive an hour and a half to get there, but I dont trust any other shops with my guitar..They were very helpful. They had my guitar setup and ready to go within a week. Will be back 100%.
Has a fantastic collection of vintage guitars. Also i greatly enjoyed the selection of upright basses and cellos.
If youre planning to go to this store, apparently you have to make a reservation. I had no idea. We walked all the way there from the opposite side of town. My 11-year old plays guitar, and we thought this would be great. Unfortunately, I didnt have a reservation, so they literally shut the door in our face. Id suggest that they always leave enough openings for people who didnt know about the reservations.
I made my first purchase from Carter’s, and could not be more satisfied. The shop is meticulously laid out, and very well merchandised. However the best part of the experience was the staff. Each team member was incredibly polite, and enthusiastic to help when asked. I will absolutely be back to Carter Vintage Guitars, and of you are visiting Nashville I strongly suggest you visit!!
Carter’s is worth a trip to Nashville by itself. I am in need of “player’s” vintage or luthier guitars on a regular basis and in addition to high end collector stuff, there are always really cool working man’s instruments.
That was a great experience seeing old guitars.
Always great seeing Mr. Carter, and Bo.I travel from South Florida, twice a year, just to see one of the best selections of vintage used guitars, amps, basses, mandolins . . .One of my top three in the country 👍
I’m out of Michigan and traded a Nash JM-63 for a beautiful Mario Martin Custom Tele. Bo responded quickly with a trade in value. And the value was definitely better than anyone else would’ve offered. I absolutely love this telecaster and is unlike any other telecaster I’ve played. Thanks for the smooth transaction and will definitely be dealing with you guys in the future! Thanks again
Without a doubt the coolest store Ive ever been to, guitar shop or otherwise.
Great selection of guitars and gear for both working and casual musicians.
My Son fell in love with this place, was able to play and enjoyed his dream.
Pretty awesome spot and selection.
A staple guitar shop on Nashville a must visit for pickers. Great place and very nice staff.
One of the greatest selection of premium guitars around
If you like guitars, especially rare vintage guitars, you have to check this place out.
Unique guitar store selection.
100s of vintage guitars. Lots of Gibson guitars available, and large variety of other makers.
Welcoming inviting and knowledgeable staff! An asset in the music arts.if your visiting Nashville THIS store should be included on your itinerary,I give my highest recommendation without hesitation !!!
The gear was amazing and they had a nice selection of guitars, basses, banjos.
Crazy awesome store! One of the most indepth stores Ive ever seen for guitars. Great staff that is helpful. They allow you to play guitars you might be interested in. By far one of the largest selections Ive ever seen and they repair some of the top guitars in the industry. Must stop for guitar lovers!!
Go here if you like guitars.
One of the best guitar shops Ive ever been to. Fantastic selection of electric/acoustic guitars and amps. Little jam rooms filled with amps to test the merchandise. And very fair prices! Went in expecting to play around with some quality instruments and walked out with a Taylor 714. And an amazing bluegrass band played a free show!
Spent $30 to get a shirt - was going to be heading there in august, last time there they were out - it arrived, large hole in shirt - notified them - thought they might want back/exch..? nothing.
Loved it! They have some really rare guitars!
Awesome place! Sales members are nice and helpful, but not in your face and not pressure-selling. Great selection of instruments. If youre a guitarist, it would be tough to walk out without drooling over at least one instrument. Free parking for customers, which is nice. Most parking in the area costs $$.
If you are a musician this place is more than worth stopping at. Beautiful collection of guitars, mandolins, and more that are ready for you to explore and play. The prices are right on most of the pieces I looked at and they have skilled luthiers in the back if you need repairs. Probably the best guitar shop to visit in the country.
I loved the place! Everything is a little on the pricey side, but there are a few once in a life time type items there. Like, for example, there are 5 of the same guitar amp heads, that used to be owned by Brad Paisley. Thats pretty cool!
NEED TO MAKE IT MUCH MORE CLEAR ON YOUR WEBSITE THAT BY APPOINTMENT ONLY! WE ARE HERE FROM TEXAS!! UBERED TO YOU SHOP TO BE TOLD NO BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. WILL NOT BE BACK!
An awesome guitar place in Tennessee.
Beautiful store with beautiful instruments.I felt the store assistant I worked with could have been a little more forthcoming which made me think he didnt know or he didnt want to deal with me at that moment.
Grade A! The staff is so helpful and friendly. They fixed my guitar and gave me a really low price. They were so accommodating. They even gave me a free tuner and told me how to use it. This place was amazing! Two thumbs way up!
The selection of guitars here varies from good to bad, but if you’re looking for vintage instruments you’ll love this place.
Such a great store. Great inventory.
Cool guitar store!
Ordered a guitar online that I ended up returning only because it wasnt THE one. However, customer service was excellent. Very knowledgeable, friendly and patient in answering all questions. Dealt mostly with Justin. No hassle to return item and very easy to work with. Will definitely shop there again if I see THE one!
Every guitar player should shop here!
Wonderful staff and amazing guitars
Wow ! My new favorite guitar store. Had so much selection! Great pricing and industry knowledge. I ended up finding the perfect sound and finish I had been searching for. Check it out!!!
Great service best set ups in town!
Chose to visit Carters on a busy Saturday afternoon. despite the number of customers mauling about looking at the amazing selection of guitars, there were plenty of helpful folks there ready to answer your questions and to help you. I was able to sell an instrument and actually got a chance to meet one of the owners. Very family friendly, very friendly overall, with a great group of support staff. The prices are right on par with what I would expect to actually pay for most of these instruments, as opposed to being highly inflated because this is Nashville. You owe it to yourself to come down and check them out.
Ive never been to a place better than Carter when looking for quality used gear. The selection is top notch, the staff are friendly but dont hover, and you never know who youre going to see there! (Joe B. came in once while I was there) I feel highly fortunate to live here and to be able to visit Carter on the regular. It truly is a world class store for guitar lovers. If youre visiting Nashville and even remotely interested in music or guitars, dont miss it.
A very professional and courteous staff. Has a great atmosphere as well.
Love this place!
I’ve never seen such a collection of beautiful and rare guitars. And the friendly and helpful staff made it a nice “museum” visit. One guy even took the time to look up a 1963 Ryder guitar I have, to give me more details about it.And I was just buying a few guitar picks.
There are so many guitars here 🤩Its like being a little kid in a candy store. Its exhilarating! There were so many brands I did not recognize, and there are so many unique designs. One of the coolest things is the guitars that were played by famous people. Of course itll be a while before I could pay 40K for a guitar, but they sure were pretty!
Wide selection of cool Guitars.
Wonderful atmosphere and super friendly staff. The history of these vintage instruments and amps are respected but presented for what they are.. tools to be held and played.
Kevin and all the staff were great and went above and beyond to help. Thanks a lot. -Justin True
This place is really cool even if you want to just walk around. If youre a musician, youll love this place. Everything is very cool and high quality so expect the price tags to reflect that. Regardless, go here and take a gander and the beauty and history and sounds. If youre a mandolin player, they have octave mandolins here!
Mind-blowing collection of rare and vintage instruments, but a staff that treats every customer exactly the same...with genuine friendliness and courtesy. They will sell a $300,00 guitar to a rock star, but treat a regular guy like me exactly the same. No snootiness whatsoever. Very cool shop that rivals Norms for sure.
Lots of guitars, but could not get waited on.Everyone was too busy to even answer a simple question. All I needed was a stand for a guitar; so after 20 minutes I drove over to Gruhnand found a really nice custom wood stand for only $200.00!!! I got the absolute vibe that I didnt look cool enough to be in their shop.
