Ive always been a little sensitive, I get feelings from people and make judgments, Lady Mimi is the real deal. She is very direct and knows her stuff, she was a little intimidating at first because Im just not used to someone being so real, but after having talked to her, I felt calm. The shop is small and gorgeous, it doesnt fit in with a lot of the other shops like it in the Quarter. This isnt a touristy shop, dont go in there if you are unsure of your intentions, and at the very least, be respectful.
More like negative 1 star. This owner attempted to get my minor child to remove her mask, then when I came in and realized what she was demanding of her/us and said nope, we are out. She proceeded to move her entrapping gate that covers the entry door while berating and cursing my child/myself and our friend. Every other place we went was welcoming and and safe. Not this dangerous weirdo. Have never felt such bad vibes in nola, a city I’ve been coming to all of my life. This fraud is a danger to the city.
Listen guys, if a powerful witch doesnt want you to wear a mask in her shop then you respectfully remove the mask. The shop and its owner are the real deal - approach them as such and you will have a good experience.
What a rude female that owns this place. Ring the bell, her sign says. We ring and ask if we can come in and she begins berating us about how we can’t follow instructions. Really? We did what YOUR sign said. Every other store in the Quarter was friendly and welcoming, ready to take our money. She’s not the only game in town, not by far. I hope your arrogance comes back three fold.
Terrible business with an owner that thinks it’s okay to treat her customers horribly. This was the most bizarre shopping experience I’ve ever had. We were a group of four and walked up to her large metal gate (which she has blocking the doorway?) and rang the bell like the sign said to do. She proceeded to act extremely annoyed to open the gate and mentioned we can come in “if we actually have a purpose to be there.” She then walked to the back of the store and loudly talked to someone in the back about us and everyone else that day being drunk? This came out of nowhere as we had not had a drink and were not even talking in her shop? Being now very uncomfortable and having already walked the whole store, we tried to wave gently to get her attention from the back so she could open the gate and let us out of the store. She proceeds to literally scream at us to read the sign to ring the bell. I explained to her that we were trying not to be rude by ringing a bell at her when she was right there. She then yelled that this was “HER HOUSE!” and I needed to read the sign. I asked her again to let us out and she told me to “get some balls” because I didn’t ring the bell... Bizarre... As she was finally letting us out, she asked the people waiting outside if “anyone else wanted to give her attitude?” Lol. Definitely an interesting way to run a business or treat people in general… Don’t recommend. Go to Voodoo Authentica down the street, much nicer people.
Amazing. Will always be my favorite witchy shop! If you love and cling to masks, skip it. You want the best herbal selection around? A new book? A new deck? An experience where the owner understands energy is everything? This is the place for you
The shop owner did not let us enter with masks on and said she “forbids” them in her shop. She wasn’t disrespectful but she was hostile and unfriendly because we were wearing masks. We chose not to enter and will not be returning. Very disappointing.
We decided to visit this shop because of the reviews. We wanted to see for ourselves. This was easily our favorite shop while visiting. The woman working was absolutely high energy but not at all rude. She was super informative and helpful! If we ever come back this way we will absolutely be visiting her again!
Here’s the deal, it cost more, but it worked. I purchased Lady Mimi’s handmade tar water because it was recommended by Amy Allan (Dead Files) on her personal Twitter and it did not disappoint, it got the job done when nothing else had, I would have paid anything for that result, but she’s the real deal and I got off cheap all things considered.I honestly had an all around wonderful experience placing my phone order with Lady Mimi, fast turnaround, great customer contact and she told me how to extend the product to get the most out of it. I will order (or just visit) again! As for the mixed reviews, there is a lot of competition in NOLA & some of these reviews read like straight up shenanigans, take them with a grain of salt, it’s NOLA!
Absolutely terrible experience. Staff on site stated they dont allow masks in the store, we lowered our masks to respect her wishes. Then she stated since there isnt even a mandate I dont like serving your kind. Would not recommend, terrible attitude from staff.
Owner is extremely rude and ill tempered. Lots of other cool authentic places you can go. Don’t waste your time or money.
Attempted to make contact to enter the store but this was lady super rude and inappropriate. Definitely advise against this store.
Used to love this place. Went back with a friend a week ago who was in town and wanted to do some materials shopping. There was a mask mandate in place and EVERYONE was required to wear masks under penalty of law. First off, they had some weird gate up with a bell for someone to let people in. At first, thought it was odd, but ok. Then, with masks on, we entered and from the back of the store, we were yelled at to take our masks off by the owner. They then proceeded to yell at the person who let us in for letting us in with the masks and then proceeded to insult us for having them (as well as some other individual in the back we couldnt see). We almost immediately left, but not before ringing the stupid bell to be let out (even though the person helping us in never left). If youre against masks, I dont care. You can live with that foolishness. But when you just straight up insult me for following the mandates put in place, that is just unprofessional and unacceptable. This place is dead to me. Go literally anywhere else.
Here’s the deal. I understand New Orleans is filled with old, old buildings that were built long before ADA law requiring that stores be wheelchair accessible. However that does not give any excuse for the rudeness I experienced. At the time I visited, I was wheelchair bound. My friends and I were walking/wheeling around the French Quarter, and some stores didn’t have portable ramps or room for a wheelchair to fit, but they either apologized or tried to work around it, like opening more doors, using a portable ramp, or letting me in through the back door. But when we arrived at Esoterica, which was the main stop of our trip, I was told that not only could she not accommodate for my wheelchair, but she wouldn’t. Every recommendation we asked for she turned down with a real sour attitude. “Could we open this double door?” “Nope.” “Is there a back door we can use?” “No.” “Is there any way we can lift her into the store?” “No, this is a historic property. It wasn’t made with disabled people in mind. I legally can’t let you in, you’ll damage the property.”I’m sorry, but through the stench of piss on the street and the incense inside, I can smell BS when I see it. Her solution was for me to hobble inside ten feet (which I couldn’t do), and sit down on the couch, or to have my friends bring me products to see while I sit outside in my wheelchair, like a baby in a stroller. At that point, I really didn’t want to go in or buy anything if she was going to be this condescending. I wanted to cry.The icing on the cake was that she said “No masks allowed. We breathe fresh air here!” My friends and I are all vaccinated, but that felt reeeeaaaal sour. Even as a joke.I understand buildings not being entirely accessible. Even my local witch store is almost entirely accessible because it’s in a house on a porch with crooked steps and the isles are too small. But when I’ve been in a wheelchair, they’ve worked with me to make sure I can shop, taken my order, or given me the number for a more accessible shop further out. This has nothing to do with religion (as one reviewer mentioned), it has to do with ableism. With that said, I’m sure the store is lovely inside. Also I saw that your daughter is missing. I hope she is found.
I visited New Orleans a couple weeks ago and I read the reviews prior to going. DON’T listen to these people! She was very real .. very raw and she taught me many lessons within my short duration there. Mimi has everything you need in her shop!Go there!
The owner is sassy in the very best of ways. Shop has many interesting things to look at and buy. Will probably go to this shop the next time I am in New Orleans.
One of our favorite places in New Orleans. The owner has a very unique personality, I love her energy.
My white witch mother! 🥰 I love her. All of the ad reviews are more than likely tourist and people who joke on our religion(S). Trust me you want to go here! If you practice seriously, this is for you.She has rituals, any incense, oils, altar material and occult goods you need. I’ve seen legit Voodou items and occult items here. The owner of this shop is a no nonsense high priestess! She is very informative she knows her stuff. She doesn’t have an attitude, she owns a business in the French Quarter so what do you expect? Also she won’t let you in if your energy isn’t correct so check it before you go in. Learn how to read, keep your inexperienced mouth shut and let her guided you.She won’t mislead you. 100 stars! ❤️
Wow. Owner is extremely rude and makes you take your mask of that is MANDATED. I have never been treated so incredibly disrespectful. I thought she was joking at first but sadly she was not. She does not allow anyone in with a mask and heaven forbid you have one on she will continue to berate you rudely in a mocking way. I’m all for supporting local business but to treat people so horribly because youre wearing a mask that you apparently don’t agree with is childish at best. I’m embarrassed for her and whoever hurt her in order to act this way.“Be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle” it’s written on her website.. and it’s sad that she expects that but does not give it in return.
DO NOT GO HERE. Garbage owner. Walked up to the gate, and the lunatic screamed at us to remove our masks. She called me defiant and I walked out. Then she yelled at my friends for touching her precious gate.
So i was yelled at after ringing the bell to be let in that masks arent allowed and i might have considered still visiting if the lady hadnt literally yelled at me like i was a child. On top of that forcing me to remove my mask is pretty bs. If u dont like masks whatever but dont take away my right to choose.
I saw the reviews of this store and was compelled to visit because it seemed very interesting, and not like any other store in the area. I came in today with my sister, we saw the gate and it’s sign and rang the bell as instructed. Mimi was very welcoming. She helped us with our needs and she is overall a very funny lady. If you want charms, oils, a fun time and good stuff I recommend this place 100%. Don’t ask dumb questions! ♥️
Anyone saying shes too mean is too sensitive. nothing she said came off as rude, and i can pick up on backhanded things. wonderful service, wonderful lady, wonderful products. definitely authentic and not so tourist-ey. go here if youre a real witch; the supplies are the real deal.
Went down there a few years ago in search of help from crippling depression. Not only was the store so comforting and welcoming, Mimi was everything I had hoped for. She sat and talked with me, listened to me and what I was going through. She gave me a book of psalms, highlighting the important ones for me to focus on and gave me oil that still helps ground me. I highly recommend this store.
When me and my friends arrived at the store the energy was negative. After walking around and finding a book I would liked I approached the counter. I placed the book on the counter while she was restocking a shelf. I noticed she seemed busy so I got my cash ready and waited; after waiting for 2-3 minutes I said “I would like this book please”. She responded with “I noticed. Do you expect me to jump for you? You need to be more aware of what the people around you are doing. “ I thought she was kidding, but the way she looked at did not seem like a joke. So, I apologized. She stood up and examined the book and stated “ I wonder how long it will take you to figure this out.” I have been studying for a while in the specific field this book was in. She then counted the change. When we went to leave my friend thanked her for opening the door. Her response was a begrudged “uhh huuuuh”. We were better off going with our intuition and skipping this store.“The Ante Primal Triad which isNOT-GODNothing is.Nothing becomes.Nothing is not.”I Figured out how to use it.
Great shop, if you dont believe in COVID.I didnt even get in. I stopped at the gate and asked if I was allowed to come in. The lady with the dark hair came up and said oh we arent doing this today, not with that mask on your face.I paused for a minute because I thought she was joking. She wasnt joking. It caught me off guard completely, and upon seeing the other reviews, I see others have had this issue too. There are so many other occult shops in New Orleans that are super exciting, and I would suggest taking your business to literally any of the others!
After reading the reviews, it was pretty clear to me that the owner protects her space and doesnt put up with bs. I was excited to see the stores offerings and to find out if shed even let me in, haha. Its not very hard to follow written instructions, but according to these reviews and even other people during my visit, some must think it is. I did get in, and I really enjoyed the shop. There were so many different things available and it was just a really cool place to be. Loved the decor, the setup, organization, and the things she worked hard to create for her customers. As a witch I have visited many metaphysical shops and I can definitely recommend this one.
Place was very nice. Lady Mimi has a bit of an attitude, but would you want a witch to be nice? Plus she’s hot, so I give her, and her establishment 5 stars:
One of my favorite places to get trinkets every time I come to New Orleans
I wish i could give a 0 because the first time we attempted to come in, the dark haired lady aggressively told us that she wasn’t open so we came back today a few hours AFTER opening time and she stared me down and aggressively, moved the gate and then proceeded, we turned around and left.. we called her to ask if she was open and she said “i don’t let just anybody in here” referring to us not being “worthy” of coming in. She went on to say I dont need your business, you are the one coming to me I just kindly said, well that explains why youre not making it as a business. I don’t recommend this place, not even if youre desperate!! There are dozens of great places elsewhere. She needs prayer, not a business license!!
A group of us was walking and shopping came up to this place was looking and reading a sign .. and seen the lady in there ... we thought she was talking to us . We answered .. She looked at us and said .. very disrespectful and hateful.. “I was not talking to you”.ok lady we will move on.. big mistake... if you treat people like that .. I’m surprised, you u still have a shop..Now most people here are very courteous and super friendly.. Maybe she needs to take lessons..
Owner is actively defying the mask mandate and putting the public health at risk by not allowing customers into her store with a mask on.
She accused my mother of wanted a tarot reading when she did not at all…. It was very bizarre. She screamed and yelled at them when they were only coming in to shop. They had mask on and waited patiently by the gate after ringing the bell. Once in they said” hi so we’re looking for” and she presided to accuse and yell at my parents.
Check your ego and sensitivity at the sidewalk. I’ve read the negative reviews about Lady Mimi and they must by whiny people who simply cannot appreciate a woman who’s direct, knows her stuff, and runs her business according to her own rules. Sure you have to ring a bell, there’s detailed instructions on the gate (learn how to read and be patient), and sure she only allows people in she wants. She’s a witch and reads energy, so if you have bad energy...bye, she doesn’t need your business. Overall, it was the best voodoo shop experience in town. She knows so much, has years of experience and was able to help guide us towards the right oils and charms we were looking for, and explained them in great detail. Once you embrace Lady Mimi’s eccentric candor, you’ll look no further than Esoterica Occult Goods.
Black haired lady that works there is so rude and unwelcoming. It’s obvious that she hates her life and doesn’t want anyone’s business. Was greeted with a extremely bad attitude and completely bad vibes.. Didn’t even want to go in after that. After reading the mixed reviews I’m assuming she has some form of bipolar disorder so some people may enjoy her while others get a completely different side. I guess it’s hit or miss so tread lightly if you dare
DO NOT STEP FOOT INSIDE THIS SHOP. She said she does NOT allow masks inside her shop so she is not following mask mandates, is extremely rude and sarcastic and clearly does not care about customer safety. Trash owner. Not worth the trouble.
Shopkeeper was drunk, rude, and pretended not to hear us when we asked to exit. Two other patrons were in the same boat of being uncomfortable and unable to leave, and they quickly exited behind us once she opened the gate.
The Nightmares Away mojo bag works amazingly. I usually have several a week, including instances of Night Terrors, and that is drastically improved with that little bag in my pillow. I can’t tel you how grateful I am.I saw the rep at a Ren Faire, and she was very nice and more than happy to answer any questions.
I WISH I COULD LEAVE ZERO STARS!!Theres a statewide mask mandate to wear masks indoors.. I get it if people want to be stupid, but but to NOT ALLOW PAYING CUSTOMERS INTO THE STORE simply because that customer wants to wear a mask is ridiculous! Plus the old goth lady was extremely rude about it before I could even say hello at the door. Ill spend my hard earned income elsewhere.
She doesnt allow you to wear a mask inside. Thanks but no thanks.
Im a practicing Wiccan and this shop is AMAZING. Everything from books, spells, supplies for craftwork etc!Mimi has run this shop for many years and she puts the mystical and magical touch on everything in her shop, she is absolutely delightful and amazing. She even does tarot card reading, palm reading and spiritual guidance so this is THE PLACE to go for any knowledge for any type of magic or craft work you need, her vast knowledge is remarkable. So worth the walk off the french quarter to go into her shop.Take cash! Trust me its so much more worth it than using a card.
Rude personnel. Refused to let us keep wearing out masks. When we went to leave and asked them to move the gate they made us ring the bell by the gate for no reason
This lady was off the hand rude and aggressive towards us. She would not even let us in the store unless we took our mask off, because to her cov19 is fake and she said she can do what she wants in her store. We said ok and walked away. I HOPE SHE GETS SHUT DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We visited yesterday (12-30-20) and really enjoyed our time in the shop. The owner was helpful, engaging, and really nice. She seemed to be interested in helping me with my sleep and dreams. I hope to be able to get a reading. Thanks for the great experience!
The owner is opinionated, so what? She knows her Craft and I learned from her just in the short time I was in her store. If you set aside your ego and suspend your disbelief she has a lot of knowledge, but of course everyone has their own path. Also, she really packs those incense vials densely which I notice and appreciate!
Yes I was a tourist..but I also take my practice very seriously.. there is absolutely no need to be so rude and hateful.. my kids didnt even want to walk near her store..and then as I walk into her door she ask why my f.ing kids are over there she has an f.ing chair they can set in.. absolutely rude.. and I had plan my trip around trying to go to that store.. so glad there were other kinder spirits around.. nothing but negativity from this shop..absolutely horrible service..
I visited this shop the weekend before Mardi Gras 2021. Awesome place! It’s small, but has so much in it and the woman behind the counter (I think she was the owner) was great! She was knowledgeable and so much fun!!! I could have spent hours there. Definitely will return when I’m in town and will order online.
Absolutely horrible experience. Nothing but bad energy radiating from this place. The woman with the dark hair displayed horrible customer service and was very unwelcoming. If her energy is this bad I can imagine how much negativity the items in her shop hold.
Cool little shop with many awesome things! This was the first shop I was able to find devil pods in!
I cant really review the shop, as I wasnt allowed to step foot into it, which was a blessing in disguise. The presumed owner was talking to a friend, so I patiently waited for her to open up her gate. She noticed me but I felt like she was hoping I go away. I waited, and she told her friend she was getting ready to close, and opened the gate for him to leave. I asked her if she was going to remain open, she glared at me and asked if I read English, and slammed the gate. Im happy I didnt spend money here, everything would have had negative energy attached to it. I dont believe she is the most legit witch in New Orleans, but she is something that rhymes with the word.
Nasty women running the shop.. she let us in with masks on and after a few minutes she came up and told us we can’t wear masks in her shop and we were stupid. I’ll never go back.
Love the vibe of this place. I try to make sure I stop by every time Im in NOLA. Give the owner her respect and shell treat you just fine
Avoid avoid avoid! Would not allowed masked patrons inside despite mandate. Horrible experience, 0/10- go to voodoo authentica instead!
The woman working was absolutely annoyed that customers entered and even refused entry to a couple ahead of us when the store was empty.
The owner is amazing she is very informative we spent about a hour in the shop talking with her. Great shop. I read some of these reviews and I just want to say this is not a tourist witch shop, if you want that then go somewhere eles. If your looking for informative information and not some curious tic tok witch who has watch a few vidoes and now you think your witch then this is a shop to check out
Coming home for the first time in a long time was met with an unfortunate experience wandering into this establishment. Don’t worry I won’t be back.
I bought a protection spell from here today, I can’t wait to use. I forgot to ask for the lovely owner / women who was working.I will for sure return back here, lots of potions and voodoo goods. I really wish I could explore the store longer.Thank you for the help today! I will be back very very soon!
I cannot wait to visit Esoterica Occult Goods! I sincerely hope that Mimi is there when I do. I met her briefly years ago and adored her. Soon!
This shop gets a one star review because zero isn’t an option. The dark-haired owner lady opened the gate for other customers in front of us, and we asked to come in as well and she said, “I’m not going to stand here all day holding the gate.” My friend and I went here in March 2021 (still COVID) and she wasn’t wearing a mask. She was so rude my friend and I didn’t really want to spend our money there but we were afraid to ring her bell so we could leave. She immediately went to the back so we didn’t see her for a while and when we wanted to ask for help with something on display, I looked at her and she just stared at me giving me a dirty look. So we had a stare down before my friend asked for help and she came over and said, “if you need help say something instead of just staring.” She still wasn’t wearing a mask when she came over to us, so I asked her nicely to put one on and she said “no I will not, this is a private business and if you don’t like it you can leave. I will kindly show you the gate now.” We were secretly relieved because we’ve been wanting to leave. And she led us out. I said to her “you should be kinder” and she said “no you should be. I don’t have to be anything, this is a private business.” Which was very childish. My friend and I are are so happy we didn’t give her any of our business and we got what we wanted from a MUCH better place GO TO VOODOO AUTHENTICA right down the street!!
Absolutely love this place! It wasnt a bunch of over produced tourist junk.
Horrible rude lady. Terrible vibes the second I walked in. The energy was so off and when I saw her she just began to go off on a tyrant. A very bizarre experience, karma is coming!
They had good selection but the two women were some of the ruddiest people I have met . A couple came in looking for a gift for their daughter and one of the women called them “selfish millennials” for asking for recommendations and started yelling at them. There is a gate that has to be moved to get in and out. The couple, after being yelled at, moved the gate to leave which led to the two women to call them ‘assholes’ for touching their property and moving the gate to leave. I don’t live in their area but this is the last place I would ever want to go. I had a selection of things I wanted to buy but put them down to leave from how uncomfortable the situation was and I didn’t want to support such rude people. I would give it zero stars if I could.
Great store, even greater people 👏
If I could give negative stars I would. The owner is a horrible, miserable woman! She is beyond rude to every customer and I have no idea how she’s even in business. Avoid this store at all costs!!
So the experience at this place could have been good, but the lady who works here has the most unprofessional attitude. The vibe and feeling of this place is so off because of her. Dont ask questions because she will snap at you and say something disrespectful and be prepared to be stared down the entire time.
Idk why there is reviews saying the owner is mean. Shes super sweet and informative! I definitely recommend this place. A huge variety of herbs and its not touristy like the other shops. Thankfully I live pretty close so Ill definitely make this my regular shop!
Fun, witty and knowledgeable staff who were also friendly and helpful ! They clearly love what they do .
We were waiting outside the gate, we rang the bell like the sign said to do. The worker yelled from behind the counter what sounded like come in but apparently was not. We were then lectured as to read what the signs say and then she proceeded to tell us the store was at capacity so we had to wait. We were not willing to go in the store after that as we could hear her berating us once she got back behind the counter. We will spend our money elsewhere. Real witches dont act like that.
We got to the shop 30 minutes before the closing time listed on Google. Woman at shop was extremely rude and wouldn’t let us in. Said she was closing at 5:30 and shut the door on us. Would never come back.
Was walking by and saw a sign for tarot reading. my group and I stopped and rang the bell as per the sign and the female working yelled at us saying she doesn’t have time and what our intentions or our mission because she’s too busy to be dealing with people who are just going to walk in. I was taken aback because all we wanted was readings. I literally was speechless.
Absolute worst customer service ever. We were outside the gate. Being yelled at by a very rude, dark haired lady. A whole bunch of yelling & cussing because I was trying to read ingredient jars. It is absolutely appalling that locals cant even come & shop in peace. I will spend my $300 at a tourist shop. I will be telling everyone I can about the absolutely atrocious service we received BEFORE we could even enter the store. May the Loa find a little kindness to send into your life!!
She yelled at us to take our masks off,,,, so we left,,,
I went here for the first time with several friends. One of my friends asked if this store was really about esoteric subjects or if it was for entertainment only. My friend has absolutely no experience with occult subjects. The woman running the shop, who identified herself as Mimi, began to scream at and belittle my friend and had the audacity to tell my friend, “If you don’t recognize you are in the presence of a Master you don’t need to be here”. She further told my friend she should do some research before walking into her store. I believe in local support of small shops but I cannot and will not support people like this.
Rang the bell and waited outside while they made eye contact with me and then completely ignored me
Was given the recommendation to stop here since it wasnt right on Bourbon and may have been a bit more authentic. We arrived and a sign said shed be back in an hour. Cool, no big. Came back and she was open with a gate in front of the entrance and a bell. She was speaking to 2 customers and looked over at me so i didnt ring the bell...we made eye contact, she was conversing, i thought itd be rude. When she does come over she says you want in? And i said yes please. She says, the bell is there for a reason and opens the gate. STRIKE 1. I let it go. Thought it was part of her shtick. So im browsing and not really seeing anything different than the other shops. She hasnt said one word to us just walking back and forth from the back talking to some guy. Doesnt ask any questions or offer really any form of interaction. Strike 2. She has some good books, many of which i own. However the mark up was around 10 to 15$ more than other places, which is fine, im all about people making money, i just knew better than to pay that price. So im still browsing and not really seeing anything so my husband and i are ready to go. Mind you that little gate is closed. So we essentially ask permission to exit, again, maybe its part of her thing. She looks at my husband, why are you rushing her? Why did you guys come in to waste my time? If youre not producing get out, i have better things to do. Obviously strike 3. And i dont feel the need to waste my energy on her so we just leave and i even thank her. Because im a real witch. And i dont need her piss poor attitude to attempt to bully me into purchasing snake oil. Im sure she gets off on our reactions based on all these negative reviews. But the truth is shes a phony, a bad person based on her energy, and her business should not be supported. So if she ever reads any of these, remember, come what may sweet cheeks, and youre putting out some real bad vibes.
Can’t wear a mask. Alright.
This woman is incredibly rude she gave me rude looks the second my friends and i walked in. we felt uncomfortable and the energy was just not good. we decided to leave and she yelled at me because we didn’t buy anything. maybe we would buy something if the energy in your store wasn’t so negative. also all of the items are crazy overpriced. i recommend going to the witch depot which is only about 15 minutes further. the woman who owns that store is an angel
This was my favorite store the entire trip, I love it, and I love the way business is done.
Local here of neighboring marigny neighborhood. The store has an entrance that appears to look like a gate on hinges like a saloon door, but is instead just a segment of fence propped against the door. My girlfriend lightly pushed on the door (during open business hours) and was immediately scolded by possibly the most negative energy ive felt come off someone in all my time living down here. She had such a unwelcoming attitude that i felt compelled to write one of my first reviews of any business in my 10 years of using yelp. Be careful buying ingredients or artifacts that are meant for infusing energy, as Im sure her bad vibes will have rubbed off on anything in the store at this point
On vacation: I was curious about the store- hoping I could get more information about how to help my autoimmune issue. The female worker inside the store ( perhaps the owner), approached me at the door. I asked, what is witchcraft? Her response was: “You seem to know enough English to know what it is. In fact, right now I don’t want to have any browsers in my store. You can go across the street or some other place.” I was dumbfounded and less hopeful that I would get help for my autoimmune symptoms.I did go across the street to another witchcraft store and the workers were soooo warm and welcoming. My 9&12 yr old daughters were with me, they put Down their Gaurd and came inside. I received so much information from the other store workers. I have their card, but I’ve packed it away..... Avoid the nasty witch in the 1st store- she will hurt your feelings.
Terrible service would not recommend going to this location these people are rude Dont give opinions and basically cuss us out when we were in the store looking to ask questions I dont recommend going to this store at all and they should be shut down. If it was an option to give no star zero Stars I would recommend no stars to this store.
Mimis store is amazing, she’s kind and helpful to those who are serious about witchcraft. In reference to some of the bad reviews, do your research and get informed on witchcraft before you go in because it’s not a novelty store and it’s rude to assume so.
Zero stars would be more fitting if it were an option. The lady at the counter (Im not sure if shes the owner, she didnt introduce herself) was extremely rude to my mother. My mother is allergic to many scented goods and has always been sensitive to perfumes and incense. She also really loves eclectic shops and understands that many burn incense, so she plugs her nose and deals with it as she happily browses.Well, the lady manning the counter apparently had a problem with this. She first began by loudly complaining to the customers trying to complete their purchase about my mother plugging her nose. My mother was occupied browsing the books and didnt notice, but I did. I was considering confronting her, but she beat me to the punch. She began hollering at my (very confused) mother. My mother apologized and tried to explain that she meant no offense and was allergic. The lady would not listen, and instead called my mother stuck up and told her to leave.Needless to say, I will not be visiting or recommending this store 😡
Definitely a cool shop. Its great to look around and if your into the stuff its a pretty good selection. The staff wasnt very friendly. They never even got out of their chair or said hello.
Absolutely horrible service. Owner was incredibly rude other than to scream at me not to touch an item I planned on buying. Will never waste me time here again. I highly recommend Hex or Omen, shopkeepers where extremely polite and very knowledgeable!!
Lovely!
I cant say enough about this place. I was in there about a month ago. Not only did I find exactly what I wanted, but all my questions were answered. Lady Mimi not only explained to me the answers, she gave me a demonstration. She was so gracious and nice.I will continue coming here, whenever possible.
Stopped by about a week ago on a super impulsive trip to nola with some friends and I cant believe Ive never been there before, my friend and I had a fun talk with the owner, and I found some dragons blood ink and a copy of 777 that Ive wanted for ages. Cool place, cant wait to visit again.
Came from Texas to purposefully visit this store after a friend went there last year. This place was awesome, there was so much to look at I had a hard time choosing exactly what I was going to buy! Lady Mimi was very friendly and helpful, so Im not sure where these other terrible reviews are coming from. Cant wait to go back!
The lady that works here with the black hair is nuts. She was super nice at first and then flips. I was looking at oils and I could hear her talking negatively about me to another customer. I was literally just holding it in my hand but she thought I was gonna open it and use it( I have no idea why she would think that). I didn’t bother talking back because that’s not who I am. I will gladly support another shop that’s more welcoming. That’s the opposite kind of energy that you would want at a place like this.
So I am writing this review kind of late, but I saw a post on facebook about someone complaining about this store. I went here about a year ago after a lady who read my tarot in the square recommended to go to Mimi. She was so nice to me and walked me through all the potions and made sure I knew what the potions would do. I actually had bent down to look at some books and she thought I had left the store so she came outside to make sure she hadnt scared me off. I see a lot of bad reviews and I am kind of shocked. Just want to put my review out there and p.s. she recommended me an oil/liquid potion she made for cancers and I have carried that little vial around with me everywhere. I would say just be kind and respectful of her store.
Terribly rude and unaccommodating owner. A shame because the shop could be really nice. But she has belittled me every time I’ve gone in. Gross behavior.
I’ve been to this shop 5 or 6 times, all on different trips to New Orleans. I’m very surprised at the reviews. I’ve never had a bad experience with the shop owner and she’s always been very helpful.
Absolutely loving and very kind atmosphere, you know ive heard alot that lady who runs that shop but she was honestly very kind to me
I’m honestly not sure how this place has such a high rating. I have never been anywhere with customer service as bad as this. Not even just customer service, but basic human decency. I’ve been here twice and both times I’ve been disappointed but this second time took the cake. My husband wanted a reading so I told him to ask if she’s doing any today. As soon as he asks she started screaming at my husband saying “I don’t need to do it” “I’m very hard to get to, everyone wants me to do readings and they can’t get to me because I’m so busy” “I don’t need your money” “I don’t do this for you”. Just a reminder my husband simply asked if she had time to give us a reading that day. I was so angry! no one should be treated like that in a place of business by, who I’m assuming, is the owner. We had no choice but to walk out and never go again. Truly the worst place I’ve ever been. On top of all that, the store is extremely small.
HORRIBLE shop. at first I was impressed at their variety and selection for such a small shop. I went up to the counter to make a purchase and made a recommendation on a band Coven she might like since she was practically doing karaoke in the store. She flipped out and asked why I would ever think she would be interested in such a thing, and proceeded to state opinions on the craft as law, shame me for liking such a band, and belittle me for assuming she would like something. She then asked me for my pin to which I said declined because I didnt want to give this person my money anymore, to which she said I HAD to. I cancelled my purchase, took my card, and proceeded to start walking out and heard screams on the breeze about how she doesnt want such sensitive people in her shop anyway, how I need to grow up (take your own advice), and that I should GROW SOME HAIR! Ha! Went down the street to Voodoo Authentica to get some Florida water to cleanse myself and was met with friendly, informative staff. Glad I had my evil eye on me: I wouldnt be surprised if she pulls names from reviews for hexes... if so, so be it! Reversal spells and karma are a b____!
I have come to this store three times in three years. When I come the owner or maybe she is just a worker is rude, insulting, and never listens to people. Today she yelled at a customer for opening an oil which is in her right. The woman apologized saying she was very sorry. The worker kept yelling and yelling going on and on. The woman continued to apologize. The worker finally said now youve had your lesson for the day. I do not want that attitude on my magic, does she pour that hate into her oils she makes? I know not all follow the law of three fold but her shop seems very Wicca. So does she know what she is doing to herself? I could never support such a place. Shop for your occult needs elsewhere.
