Pitiful selection of woodwind accessories, prices are nothing special, selection small and junky. Much better off going online because they arent even particularly helpful or friendly. Didnt get the impression they wanted to help, that they cared what I needed, and I felt more like an imposition. Most questions answered with just a no or a shrug. Steer clear of them and Larson Music and the one they own in Edmond as well.
10/10. Best music store in OKC with great service and a variety of different accessories for different instruments.
Good service, coupled with good quality goods makes for a great experience.Lots of options, and I especially appreciate the fact that my in-store rep didnt try to sell me anything I didnt ask for.You can even try out the instruments if youd like.
Nice guy works in there, sorry I didnt get his name. Nice selection of gear for everyone.
I love this music store. The crew is helpful and the selection is great. They are always willing to help and answer questions.
Great customer service and lots of instrument options! Been going there since 2009 for guitar stuff :)
One of the cleanest, well stocked and organized music stores I have ever been shopping!
The absolute BEST service! Weve never been in before but they took care of what I needed with limited information (kids..lol) on the items I was supposed to buy and the salesman knew exactly what I was talking about. I also bumped up my purchase after the other salesman showed me the different guitars and was so helpful I jumped in and bought my first ukulele! Great knowledgeable customer service. Will definitely be back!
Stopped in with a musical instrument question which was answered cheerfully.
Wonderful teachers for any kind of lesson you might want.
We’ve been renting instruments for years and have had personal instruments repaired here. They are always friendly and knowledgeable. They’ve offered advice and instructions on how to care for all of our instruments. We will always choose Gilliam first.
Every time I step in, they are immediately helping me find what I need and providing detailed explanations.
Knowledgeable friendly staff. Great prices! Your go to place for instruments.
These guys are fantastic. My daughters take their violins in for services every other month and they listen attentively to them and make sure they are set with everything before sending them out the door. Excellent advice, excellent service.
I recently purchased a Fender Telecaster. The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable of the guitars and qualities I was looking for in a guitar. I am glad I shopped local because the price was matching or less than online stores. The staff helped me decide which is the right guitar for me. Support your local shop!
Bought my first guitar today!! Really friendly and very knowledgeable!
Great staff always helpful
Associates are always helpful and they have a great selection of instruments & sheet music/book department also. Purchase Piano music for my students here.🥰
Very nice store!!
It has nice guitars and the staff are really nice
Todd (when he still worked there) and now Scott always know what to do with my guitars! Highly recommended!
Very helpful, wonderful staff and got my wifes violin where it should be and great price.
Great and helpful staff! Extremely polite and and kind folks too. They are cheaper on quite a few item than Guitar Center. Seems that Guitar Center has increased their prices more than needed. I bought an Fender Deluxe 18.5 ft guitar cable at Gilliams for $35, and an Evans practice pad for $20. Went to GC later to just browse around, and noticed the exact same cable for $45 and the same practice pad for $25.These guys just wanna genuinely help and serve other musicians and provide good quality gear at a great price. I will go here over GC any day! So should you!
A helpful and friendly staff
This is probably the best music store in Norman! It has great employees who are helpful, and very knowledgeable. Instrument repairs and maintenance are done well, but they take around a week. Have never had an issue or complaint about this store, and would highly recommend it to anyone in the area.
My kids (17yrs & 11yrs) said were coming back! They really enjoy music and play multiple instruments. My youngest started jr high and needed a book for class & her teacher said it would be here. Seriously the best music store in the area. They have EVERYTHING! My son was excited with all the percussion stuff they had, my daughter loved the pianos! Tons of sheet music; classical, jazz, Broadway, movie music and much more! Weve been to several different stores, but this will be our go-to now. The kids want to go back tomorrow to show their father. Lol!
Recently purchased my first guitar here. Great place to do business with. Very knowledgeable and friendly sales Staff. Thank you Scott N for your help and expertise on my purchases
Nice place for all your instrumental needs
I have had a few repairs and set ups done on a few of my Gibson guitars here and they are the best. The only place I trust my instrument to come back better than when I dropped it off. It’s hard to trust places with vintage and high end gear, but Gilliam’s is top notch and I would not use anywhere else. Thanks for doing awesome work!
The staff is so helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. They have a great selection of printed music! Im a piano teacher, and I always send my students here!
Bought some drums (electronic) here. Really decent deal, nice people, good customer service. Give them some support. Local company!
Excellent place to have a guitar or bass set up. They also have a beautiful selection of instruments. If I win the lottery Im buying their whole stock!
This place has been here for quite awhile. The staff is great, very knowledgeable. Ive utilized them for repairs, rentals, guitar/bass purchases, and reasonable prices for staple items like strings, picks, reeds, cork grease...
Nice staff and a great selection of instruments and music books
Very quick to get what you need. Their estimated time for repairs was right on the nose. Theyre very helpful.
This was my first visit. I was impressed with the size of the store and the stock available. Selections was endless to your choice of instruments. Customer service was outstanding also.
Ive been impressed with their gorgeous piano selection. Obviously I cant buy a big baby grand yet, but many times Ive stopped in to browse and tinker around to get a feel for what I like. One day I stopped in after my morning class to play for a few minutes before I had to pick my daughter up. There was probably one other customer there on the opposite side of the store. I was playing quietly when an older man walked up and asked if I was looking to buy. I said some day Id like to. I went back to playing softly (I know I was, because I had the damper pedal down and was making a point to). The man walked up to me again less than 5 minutes later and said quite rudely, Im trying to talk to a customer over here, stop playing. They were on the other side of the store. Im convinced that he told me that because I wasnt a paying customer that day. He also guaranteed I never will be a paying customer. And I plan on buying a Steinway baby grand in the far future. How you treat customers that dont plan on making a major purchase matters!!!
Great service. Friendly salesman.
Besides the only con for us, is being on the opposite side of town, we really like this place. Weve been using Norman Music, but sometimes get tired of low inventory. Weve only been in Gilliam twice, but the customer service was great both times, even as we tried to control our 3yr old from touching everything. My DH found great service and chat with the woman that helped him pick his Beginners Book. I like not being hounded by employees when Im browsing.
Very disappointed in my visit. Called about selling an instrument. I was told Pat the manager would have to look at it but he was gone for lunch and would be back in 45 minutes. Not being from Norman I waited 45 minutes before arriving at the store. I was told I needed to wait another 10 to 15 minutes for his return. Upon his return I was told by him that he was too busy to help us and too come back later. Rude and very unprofessional. Didnt even ask if I would like to wait. If your looking for a music store, I would go somewhere else.
Staffed by stuck up elitist snobs that treat you like you are just the most inconvenient part of their day. Basically how dare you make me do my job. If you so much as look at an instrument they are hawking over you. You cant even play the guitars without asking for the chord. When you ask for anything they act like you killed their dog. There are no words to fully describe how horrible these people are to their customers. Its amazing they are still in business. Thank goodness Guitar Center opened in Norman.
Pretty cool place. They got a lot of neat instruments.
The lady knew exactly where the piece of music I was looking forwas, and I was allowed to sit at a piano and test-play each to see which version I wanted. It was my first visit to this store, and I was very satisfied! I will definitely be back!
Treated me very good and had what I needed
I really think these reviews are written mostly by the people who work there. This is one of the few places in Norman I vowed to never go back to. Id never been treated more rude in my life. Theres plenty of other music stores in the metro. I dont know why this place is still open.
Great selection of instruments and excellent customer service. Prices are competitive. Knowledgeable staff and Todd is an outstanding guitar tech.
My wonderful husband a Korean War vet and disabled wants so much to learn guitar. This store recommended Bob Morris who is perfect. He goes once a week to the store for these lessons. Perfect. Thank you Gilliam team
Extremely helpful and knowledgable staff. Made my purchases for my sons band equipment very easy.
Went to a music Recital there. It is larger than it looks. Amazing staff. Amazing prices.
Always helpful, tons of knowledge. Prices in line with big box and online stores. Buy local!
Inventory and customer service are great. Im a drummer, and Ive always gotten solid advice and work out of the staff. Theyre my go-to if I need the personal touch the online experience lacks.
I like this place. Its cozier than Guitar Center.
Well I was going to check this place out tomorrow since my daughter got into orchestra. But after the reviews I read about how rude all the employees are, Im not so sure now. I refuse to spend my hard earned money where you have to deal with that.Update: Never went here but did call to get information and the employee was very nice and helpful!
Customer service was great at the store. I was just browsing for guitars. The salesman was very helpful even though I told him I was just looking and not likely to buy that day.
Never been its just next to my gym crunch fitness.
One of the better selections of a music store in this part of Oklahoma, but the employees can be pretty rude and prices are definitely high. Havent found many better options in the area for music needs, though.
They have an okay selection and decent prices but their customer service is horrible. I went in to buy a new trombone and to sell my old starter horn (which I bought from them a few years back!) And I picked out a Yamaha F-Attachment and its very expensive. One guy wouldnt help me because I was a teenager who doesnt have the knowledge or money to buy one and the guy that did help me asked if I could afford it! Being that Im a teenager I understand that they may think I dont have money, but you never ask a customer of they can afford something. But I digress I pulled out my wallet and showed them all my hard earned cash and left the store. The other thing is that they wouldnt buy back my instrument!
I bought my first guitar from this store back when they were Brook Mays music back in the 90s. Obviously this isnt guitar center, but the staff hasnt changed much over the years and I have always felt welcome when I walk in the store. There are a couple of guys in there that give you the youre here to walk around and not buy anything attitude, but they also have some personnel that love music and appreciate the business. Overall, I would recommend Gilliam Music and to at least stop by. Prices are right and will negotiate. If the old burn out is working in there, tell him to seek other employment or at least learn to appreciate the dying breed of muscians.
Super friendly knowledgable staff! Helped me get an affordable flute for my son.
We like to do business here. Helpful and often make minor guitar repair on the spot.
Great place to find many needs for many musicians beginning to pro.
My own experience echoes a few of the other reviews. The store is well stocked, and the prices are right; however, the customer service can be severely lacking, and occasionally bordering on rude. On one recent occasion my trip to the counter to make a purchase was met with an attitude of inconvenience. Not to be underdone, my following visit a few days later to return an item I felt was defective drew the remark, Well, I can take this back but there is nothing wrong with it. Rather than take the time to ask questions in an attempt to troubleshoot my problems and find a solution, the employee reacted with a sense of disdain...not a good way to earn repeat business.
Very helpful employees. They have the book that we were needing.
Great store! They carry local brands such as Walrus, Keeley, Pietronix, etc...
They have a great selection and great prices but the staff is incredibly stuck up. Seems like they have a superiority complex or something. They watch you like a hawk and give you the stink eye if you get close to any instrument. Especially the guitars. Rude, Unfriendly and incredibly condescending. This place needs to hurry up and close. I have had better customer service at Mc Donalds. This place is a black mark on Norman. Please for the love god do not support this business.
My wife already left a review, but I felt the experience was disappointing enough to warrant a second. My wife has been attempting to sell an intermediate level orchestra flute. We originally went to Larsons and they recommended that we try Gilliam as they deal more with the brand we were selling. We live in The Village and made a 40 minute trip down specifically to sell the flute to Gilliams. Mind you, we were told during the week that the flute purchaser would be available Saturday and they would be happy to help.Upon arrival, we were told Pat (flute purchaser) was out to lunch and would not return for about 45 minutes. We came back a little over 45 minutes later and walked in just ahead of Pat. He immediately began selling a flute to someone else. When another gentleman informed him that we were waiting to sell a flute, Pat made a snide remark that he was too busy to look at and buy an entry level flute today. He never asked if we wanted to wait for him or even asked us what the flute was. Pat then walked away without so much as a sorry. The customer service was almost non existent and I was extremely disappointed in the way we were treated as potential customers. Customers should never be treated like a burden. Would never recommend.
Nice place, good selection of instruments. We were just killing time, but I wished we had one of these closer to home.
Rude!!! Only giving 1 star to be able to leave a comment about how terrible the customer service is. I called to ask a simple question about flute repair and the employee was unnecessarily rude, almost mean! Do not give them your business.
All around great music store. The staff are very knowledgeable and their guitar tech is top notch.
Terrific selection for a local non-chain store, staff is friendly, patient and outstanding to work with. Recommended!
Excellent inventory and customer service. I like the fact that they dont let kids manhandle the more expensive instruments. That said, Ive watched them provide excellent advice and service to kids and parents. Outstanding repair work on guitars, as well.
I completely agree with Cheryl I had almost an identical experience with Pat. Im from north OKC and I made several calls during the week to the store as I thought I would be able to make it earlier but I was unable to make it in until Saturday due to my own work schedule. When I got to the store I was told Pat would have to look at it but he was gone for lunch and would be back in 45 minutes. I left and came back 45 minutes later and when I came back Pat was just getting ready to come in. Once he returned he began helping another customer and after waiting another 10 to 15 minutes I was told by him that he was too busy to help us and that he wasnt interested in buying a starter flute. Mind you I wasnt selling a starter flute. And if you are really so busy why dont you have appointments or just say that you dont buy instruments on the weekends so that people dont waste their time coming to your store. He also didnt ask if I would like to wait. The other gentlemen were very nice though so as long as you dont have to deal with Pat you should be okay otherwise go anywhere else. Ive been to pawn shops before that had better customer service then Pat.
Great shop for modern and classical musicians equipment.
Easily the most ill-mannered establishment Ive ever set foot in. They treat you as if you are an inconvenience and customer service is a foreign concept. They also keep the 1/4 cords behind the desk so you cant play the electric guitars without asking, but they sigh and act disgusted that they have to leave their seat/computer to fetch a cord for you. If thats not enough, you have to tune every guitar you pick up. Im surprised that they are still in business. Do yourself a favor and go ANYWHERE ELSE.
Just like so many others have stated, customer service is non existent here, they treat you like a burden, and they are some of the biggest snobs Norman has to offer, Walmart has better customer service than this place, which should sum things up fairly well. the selection and prices are not THAT good to justify dealing with the horrible service.
Guitars, Amps, Drums, P.A. Systems, Pianos and Keyboards, Band and Orchestra instruments, Sheet Music and all the accessories!!! Full service music store!
Good price and selection for Trumpet players.
Always have everything I need in stock for kids band stuff.
My first time at Gilliam Music to have violin strings replaced, purchased a new bow and a new case. They were very helpful, friendly and courteous!
Great place for repairs on instruments.
Great store with great community presence.
Ive had several decent experiences but thought Id post this as an FYI. I was told by their other music store, Larsen Music in OKC, that theyd match the prices I found online. So I called to ask if Gilliam Music did the same and they said yes as well. I went there only to be told that they couldnt match such low prices. I said when I talked to the person on the phone, they said they could - not that they would unless they didnt like the price. The guy still gave me 10% off and I needed the supplies now, so I bought it - but were talking about a $15 difference in online prices versus them. I think a better question to ask when you call to ask if theyll meet the online price is to discuss the price you found online and ask if they could beat that or come close to it. Then maybe negotiate a price that way. But they will NOT always give you the price you find online.
Great place for recitals!
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the ONLY lease-to-own program that is not a scam in this state! :)
The staff is extremely knowledgeable on whats needed for public schools and very helpful!
Such wonderfully friendly people
Helpful staff, good selection
Very nice friendly and helpful staff
My wife and I were looking at pianos and when we asked about pricing they said the uprights started at 45,000, then asked very sarcastically rude do you have that kind of money? and it was a Japenese made, not the German sand cast Pianos that take months to build. They lost our business right there. This place isnt worth the trip in our opinion. Absolute rubbish.
Loved it!
The store has what I want every time I go there, but their customer service is terrible. They always seem upset that Im bothering them when I check out.
Great place for basic band accessories and repair
Lots of sheet music and instruments for sale. Instrument rentals for students.
Good service
Full of instruments, music, and supplies.
Great service
It was nice
Place is no good workers are no good along with the instruments
Had what we needed
Great variety.
