I brought my fender strat made on Japanese guitar to mills river music store. I was very impressed with how well it came out I told them what was wrong they wrote it down on the computer. dropped it off yesterday and picked it up today and it looked like it was brand new. They made the bridge nice and solid as I wanted and I like how the price was because it sounds nice it plays great so thank you guys for taking the time to fix my guitar. Ill come back if I need any other help with my gear.

Ive been coming to Mill River since last summer for everything I could possibly need - guitar setups, repairs, equipment, trades, drums, literally everything.I cant say enough about how great the staff and gear selection are. Ive been a musician in the area for about 20 years and grew tired of the cold attitudes at some of the shops that have been in the area for a long time. I WANT to support local businesses - and Mill River makes you feel like family the moment you walk in the doors. Even during the height of the pandemic, they took safety very seriously but never made you feel unwelcome in the store.Honestly, I could write endless paragraphs about how great this place is, the owner, the repair techs etc. But I will leave it at this - trust me, you cannot go wrong doing business with Mill River.

Simply the best music shop in the Pioneer Valley. From kind, experienced and intelligent staff to an ever revolving selection of rad vintage gear to ace repairs and top quality new brands as well. They are the only local shop to carry PRS guitars. They also now carry Taylor Acoustics and great pedal brands as well such as Electro Harmonix, Source Audio and Walrus Audio. A great place to trade, try new gear, get a repair or just hang out and absorb knowledge. A must visit!

Jon was very helpful in deciding on the Eastman MD515cc/n mandolin with answers to my new mandolin player questions. He helped with the finance aspect too. When the mandolin arrived, in a very timely manner, in NC it was only slightly out of tune and the set up was perfect. Do recommend MRM.

I had previously posted a 2 star review of Mill River Music and i want to add this note. After speaking with Jon, the owner, I realized that my criticism was hasty and uninformed. He went out of his way to explain store policies and the high standard of professionalism and customer service that is essential to the his vision for the store. This extends to his capable staff as well.I want to thank him for his kind response. It is encouraging to meet a business owner with such dedication and commitment to excellence. Check out Mill Valley the next time youre in Northampton.

Good bunch of guys here. This is a class act place. Ive had them install A bone nut on one of my guitars, pickup covers on that same guitar, pickups on a different guitar, and setups. I built my own amp, but goofed up a ground, they diagnosed and fixed it in under an hour. The best part is that they even tightened up some of MY work! All of the work they have done for me has been perfect. My kid decided to play guitar and a month later changed her mind. I didnt go into the shop expecting anything, without discussing numbers, Ill say that they completely understood and even though they didnt have to, they were very accommodating to me. These guys are fantastic!

Ive purchased two amps and a guitar here. Ive also traded an amp and a guitar for store credit. Everyone is super friendly and fair. They go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and ensure your have what you need. The selection of new and used instruments is large and, at least with respect to guitars and basses, youre likely to find what youre looking for (unless youre after the super high end acoustic instruments).

Picked up guitar after they fixed it. After we left, we realized that they put strings on it and charged us without informing us. When we called back for a refund, the first person said i assumed you knew since it is common knowledge ... THEN the manager gets on the phone and calls me Petty!!! Cant even make this up!! not gonna lie its kind of petty its $7 seriously sucks because i LOVE supporting small businesses.

This is a review of my experience with the businesss repair service. I took two guitars (one electric, one acoustic) for setups/adjustments, and both times I had issues with their work. The people were friendly and seemed honest, but I want to give a heads up to folks considering taking their guitars there. Summary: I think they botched both jobs, and I wont be returning. I feel bad about it - I really wanted them to be my new go-to outfit. The electric was a straightforward setup (action had gone high during the winter), and I was happy with the result until I got home and heard a new buzzing sound from the headstock area. Turns out one of the screws that holds the small truss rod cover plate was stripped and the screw was loose, allowing the plate to buzz. Looking at the screw hole, I belive it was this way when I picked it up (rather than happening after I got it home). Because it wasnt happening before the work, this unfortunately leads me to believe that the repair person might have stripped it and didnt catch that he did, or didnt take the time to correct it by filling the hole a little. Im lucky I noticed before the screw was lost. I did the repair myself (a slice of toothpick and a dab of wood glue), and its good now. To be fair I could have brought it back and given them a chance to make it right, but after the second guitar issue (next paragraph) I decided I was done. So for this repair, Id say 2/5 stars. The acoustic experience was worse. I took the guitar in because one of the strings was catching at the nut. When I came in to pick it up after their call, I tried it in the store and noticed right away that the problem was still there. Not good. My thinking is they either: 1) didnt know they hadnt fixed it, 2) knew they hadnt fixed it but didnt say anything, or 3) fixed it and then it unfixed itself when in the case waiting for pickup. #3 is the most generous interpretation, but TBH a little hard to believe, for this particular issue. Still, they offered to try again, this time mentioning maybe cutting out the nut, but I decided to take it elsewhere. They were stand up about the cost by not charging me for the work (work that didnt solve the problem, to be fair). 1/5 stars.(Happy ending: theres an expert in Brattleboro that was highly recommended to me - I was initially lazy and didnt want to drive, hence taking it to Mill River - but I took the acoustic to him. He looked at it and asked if I had 10 minutes. Turns out the nut slot just needed a little shaping. $5 later I was out the door, problem solved. No cutting, just competent identifying the problem based on decades of experience and then solving it with little fuss. From now on, I drive Brattleboro for all work.)

Excellent service, knowledgeable people, with a great attitude about what the real value is in an instrument, or other piece of musical gear, right down to the small stuff. I can’t imagine a better place to take a son or daughter to, to get a first instrument, or lessons, etc. I’ve lead a guitar orchestra for some years, and have heard from a couple of women associated with us, that they were well treated here: not something to betaken for granted at a music shop.

I own a pretty beat up 1927 Martin parlor guitar, shes been mine at least 30 years, and didnt play it enough. I knew it needed help; wouldnt stay in tune, and I couldnt get the harmonics to add up either. Lots of buzzing. Suffice it to say, it needed help, experienced and talented help. Never trusted the average guitar shop folks to work on it. I found talent in abundance at Mill River Music. It came with a good recommendation, and Im glad I trusted what I heard. Jon repaired bunch of cracks, new bridge and strings. When I got it home I couldnt believe it sounded so amazing. My other two adventures in taking the guitar to experts always ended in shrugged shoulders and a low ball offer for it, as according to them it wasnt worth much anymore. When I took it in to Mill River the first thing Jon said was Whoa!, holding up so the others could see, This is what the back should look like. ROSEWOOD! Then to me,This piece of wood alone is worth a grand.Ive had it back about three months, and I am playing it a lot more than I used to. Also, I got instruction on how to keep it sounding good besides playing it. Humidity control, and because the case was as old as the guitar, a new case. I bought the least expensive one, because that was what they recommended, even though I was eyeing the cool looking gig bags. The whole thing, including the case was less than 250 dollars, way under what Id expected. If you have a guitar you love and are looking for someone to tenderly nurse it back into its full potential, take it in to Mill River. For one thing, youll be spending more time playing it than watching netflix. And, it will sound really really good!

I am a full time touring musician, now living in Nashville. I broke a string on my hollowbody bass which needs a short scale flatwound strings. I was on tour in DC and called 30 stores looking for these strings. No one had them. Headed to do a session this week in Goshen at the IMA, and Mill River was the only shop I could find that had these strings. The gear selection was so cool, I ended up buying a ring modulator as well. All reasonable prices. Great service, great gear. Really appreciate these guys and will continue to purchase anytime I’m in town.
