Jim was very knowledgeable and offered great customer service. I was traveling through OKC and made it to the store a few minutes before closing. Jim took the time to help me find the best pack for my needs and to make sure I had the perfect fit. Thanks again for all your help....amazing experience!!
Great little outdoor shop. Covers all the bases from gear to clothing for your adventures. The best part is the fully stocked fly shop theyve got hidden in the corner. Staff is super knowledge on local waters and is more than stoked to help you get squared away.As an experienced tier and fisher, their material selection is great, as is their gear selection.Certainly a great little spot.
My favorite outdoor shop in OKC. Prices beat anyone else for high quality gear - if other places even stock the stuff Backwoods has. Shoes, boots, camping gear and clothes are great. Employees are always very helpful and use much of the gear themselves so have first hand experiences.
Stopped by to do some window shopping. Friendly staff, nice to have a local spot that carries most of the top choices for backpacking gear!
Always a great place for specialty outdoor gear. Knowledgable staff!
Staff was very helpful. Store carries top of the line outdoor gear. Which means that when you go hear be prepared to spend some $$$. The clothes are functional and stylish for the genre. Only caution is that they carry the stock that they can sell. Which means limited on some sizes. If they dont have your size they will get it for you. But with todays online world you can get the items just the same. Go to the store if you have a need for now. I highly recommend for outdoor gear.
I love supporting local and it was a cool little store but they had virtually no inventory. The only thing they had a lot of was fly fishing gear. They carried the bare minimum in the activities they carried gear for. I know it’s but their fault but it also smells like smoke inside because there is a smoke shop next door.
After two trips to CO and successful day hikes, we caught the backpacking bug. We visited Backwoods with the intent of window shopping only. Brent greeted us right away and spent nearly two hours answering our long list of beginners questions. He helped us try on several weighted packs, taught us how to adjust them, and encouraged us to check out other retailers and different brands to ensure we found the bag that met our needs. He never pressured us into buying and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we knew exactly how to select the right pack for us. While we didnt intend to buy a backpack today, we were so impressed by Brent that we purchased a pack we loved. We will definitely return to Backwoods for all our hiking and camping needs!
Very nice outdoors store with a wide variety of mdse. Although somewhat pricey they do have good sales during the year. Sales people also seem to be knowledgeable and very helpful.
Knowledgeable, pleasant staff. Sale prices are great. Surprising selection and options. If youre ready to fit an Osprey pack, choose ultralight or comfort camping, find quality tech gear for climbing, fishing, hiking, this is the place to go in OKC.
Decent selection albeit way overpriced for outdoor gear. As is typical with most outdoor gear shops. Staff is a bit snobbish and often has a superior attitude when asked questions and tend to talk down to you and lecture instead of giving a genuine helpful answer. It seems they need a refresher course on customer service and understanding that not everyone is the great outdoors person they are and are genuinely wanting a helpful answer and help rather than being lectured.
My favorite store of in the area. The guys here are very experienced and can help with not only gear, but advice for specific trips.
Recently purchased 2 pairs boots, two backpacks, two sleeping pads, and numerous other items over the course of several visits, while working with several different salespeople. Top notch advice and service. They helped make our trip a success.
Absolutely amazing staff! Tom was very helpful and had very in depth knowledge on many facets of the outdoors. Fishing, climbing, hiking and hunting and just amazing local knowledge! Great guy to talk with and you can tell this guy has a real passion for the outdoors!
The store was awesome. I found what I was looking for. However, the staff there appeared to be a little taken back by the color of my skin. No one greeted me, not even a simple hi, but, Im used to that in fact in most stores I expect it. Then, the very next person who entered the store (who was Caucasian) was greeted with open arms by all the staff.Yall wanted me to share my experience so others will know what to expect, there you go.
As already stated in other reviews... the best customer service. They will take the time to help you with either their first hand experience and/or their professional knowledge of all the products they sell. The store carries what you need and not filler items that typical stores carry. They stock the brands they would carry themselves....no junk. Prices are exactly what you would pay anywhere else so no need to shop around when you have an amazing store like this nearby!
Quality shop with expert service. They offer a nice military discount. I went in to buy my first hammock. A salesman quickly put up two for me to touch and see without even asking him. They carry all of the quality brands for outdoor gear. They also have Benchmade knives. They also have the largest fly fishing shop I have ever seen. If you need to be fitted for boots or quality hiking or camping gear. This is your place.
Awesome service here, knowledgable staff with good recommendations. Great product selection and good prices. Would rather buy local here than take my business online for these specialty products.
Great service and knowledge of hiking boots. I bought a pair of oboz that was recommended by their manager who spends hours in the outdoors. Best hiking boots I have ever owned. I have owned many boots over the years and have spent many hours and days in the outdoors. Highly recommend Backwoods.
Tom and Chris were great help and both were very knowledgeable. Thank you guys for fixing me up with the gear I needed. Great store, great people.
They finally started carrying a variety of angling gear and flies, otherwise it would be 3 stars. I always feel awkward walking in here because they are slow to greet you and even slower to help you out. They have some good clothes though, but the pant sizes are never long enough for me (63). They have a large selection of very few camping items. When I say that, I mean they only carry a few types of gear, but have 10-12 different kinds of that specific gear to choose from. Like 10 different types cooking sets, 30 types of backpacks, 15 different head lamps, 20 types of compression sacks, etc. I wish theyd diversify their inventory and carry things for the man who has everything. I have a lot of lightweight camping gear, but Im always looking for things that make life easier or lighten my load in the wilderness. I wont name names, but theres another locally owned outdoor store in Edmond that meets this. So I often go there first.
As a rookie to hiking and camping, I have greatly appreciated the expertise that I get at Backwoods. The experience that Krista and Brent have is amazing!! They take the time to think creatively and have helped me with my needs for my specific hike.
Good quality items. Friendly helpful staff. Well organized.
I was really excited about this place! Im a huge outdoor enthusiast and loved the store and the products they carried when I walked in at 3 on a Monday afternoon.I was ignored by both associates despite being the only customer in the store and making eye contact with both. After looking at EVERY product and still being ignored, I left dissatisfied by the lack of service I received.I would like to see better custom service at a store like this.
This store is fantastic! Over 15 years ago, I first ventured into the Backwoods OKC shop. In the years since, I have come to rely on the staff. They have always been a great resource in the planning of my outdoor adventures, and it seems that they strive to go the extra mile. IMO Backwoods is all about exceptional customer service. They also carry first rate equipment.
Great selection for a smaller store. This store has a good clothing and camping collection. The fly tying materials are competitively priced!
I ended up purchasing three out of four of the items I came for. The staff members on the floor were very helpful and were able to answer all of my questions. I went here on my lunch break so I was pressed for time. When I went to the register to make my purchases, I waited and waited and no one came to help me (granted, the store did fill up with customers while I was there and every staff member I saw was assisting someone). I ended up having to put my items back and leave and then come back and make the purchases. This was annoying, and really shouldnt happen, but I was impressed enough with the staff who initially helped me that I didnt have a huge issue with it.
Customer service is second to none. Brent is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Prices are in line with web stores. This is my go-to place for backpacking gear.
Everyone that works there knows their stuff. Great products displayed with proper instruction from employees. They have a broad range of products from hiking, camping, fishing, etc. An outdoor persons playground.
Great store. Always have something I need or want. Knowledgeable staff and most willing to help even if you are just looking around.
Love this store. So hard to find womens hiking clothes and they had several styles to choose from. Very knowledgeable .
Chill and good prices. Not a stuck up small business but your getting only the best, if your serious about the outdoors this is my new found fav place.
The Backwoods is exactly what it says... Backwoods. Theyve got great gear and the people are really helpful.
Pricey but good quality. Small selection & extreme over-specialized. Know what you want before you go. They likely dont have it.
Nice clean store. Friendly staff. Limited selection and pretty pricey even for an outfitter.
Its one thing to shop online and try to educate yourself, which is good, but when I went in to buy a few things for backpacking I got several pieces of advice that I might not have found elsewhere that really helped me make a good decision. Overall good experience.
I just left from there and will never go back. When I walked in there were two employees helping out a couple customers. I need you to see if something could be ordered in, so I waited patiently. After a few moments one of the workers became available yet did not attempt two help out the other customers in the store. I stayed in there for about 10 to 15 minutes walking the store looking at items before I left. The whole time I was there I was never acknowledged as a customer or even looked at for being there. My advice is to save your money and go to REI, their items are cheaper anyways.
Great place to find all types of camping and Fly Fishing Gear!
Eager to help you out, happy to answer any questions you have.
Good place to find anything you need for camping or rock climbing.
Great place. All the above.
Great for Scouting, and you get a discount if you are a Boy Scout. I really appreciate the dedication that they show toward each customer.
Probably the best higher-end outdoor sports store in the OKC metro in terms of selection. This is geared toward backpackers, hikers, etc (I think snow skiing too, but I wasnt looking for that). For those familiar with the REI retail chain in the western US, brands are similar to what you would find there, such as North Face, Osprey, Arcteryx, etc. This is a much smaller store than most REIs, and the number of outdoor sports covered is fewer, but this is about as close as you will get to an REI in OKC. However, staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, so they may be able to order something that is not in the store or point you in the right direction. Definitely worth checking out if your are an avid camper/climber/hiker/adventurer.
Awesome camping store with all the gear you could need for any Adventure you want to go on
Backwoods is simply the best in OKC and have been for decades. Long live Tom.
Good selection and Brent was very helpful and knowledgeable while helping me select hiking shoes.
Bought a pair of Khul pants here and the first time I wear them the seam begins to come undone in the back pocket. I take them back for a replacement after only having them a few days and Im told by an employee that they will not exchange them because it had to be my fault. I will never go to Backwoods again and will tell everyone I know to spend their money elsewhere. I would rather spend more money somewhere else where I know I will be taken care of if Im sold a faulty product. Its not as if they have the best prices anyway. If I spend 75 dollars on a pair of pants, I should expect them to last longer than one wear under any circumstances. Especially a pair of rough and tough Khul pants. Good luck buying something from Backwoods because they may not replace it if they sell you something that doesnt work like its supposed to.
An outdoor activity store. Highly recommended. Many specialty items.
Inventory is down but quality b is good
The best place to go in Oklahoma for high quality gear
Wonderful place. Alwaysbend up finding something I wasnt expecting to buy that I just have to have.
Decent selection and prices but I shopped for 15 minutes without anyone acknowledging me. I’ll shop somewhere with a little better customer service.
Always a good place to get equipment and advice for all your backwoods hiking or camping needs.
Love this store! Everyone on staff is super knowledgeable on tons of topics!
Very friendly and knowledgeable people! Had a great experience! Thank you!
The store offers great quality outdoor gear and active wear

Large supply of climbing, fishing and camping gear. Great customer service and wonderful atmosphere.
Best place in Oklahoma to get actual hiking gear.
They had what I wanted.
Not much to do with camping. The Have alot of clothes and the only fishing stuff they have is fly fishing.
I didnt buy anything but this was a really cool store. Glad i came. I will be back.
Lots of jig supplies!! Everyone was very helpful and nice..I will be back!!
Wide variety of camping gear found lots of things Ive been needing for my upcoming trip.
Probably one of the best establishments in the city.
Great place for outdoor gear!
The best.
Overpriced, but definitely worth the look
Same prices as online and really knowledgeable staff.
Beat outdoor activity store around. Kind of pricy, but top quality gear.
