We have now had 2 birthdays here with our nature loving son. The party packages are wonderful and I am happy knowing that the money I spend goes right back into the nature center and taking care of the animals. The volunteers and/or employees are extremely knowledgeable and very passionate about what they do. The building and displays are well kept and clean. The animals seem healthy and well taken care of. Also, the new trail work is great! Makes it very accessible. We love spending time here.
Great place to take the kids out. Staff are very nice and there are plenty of animals to see!
We love Ernie Miller. Great trails, which are getting even better with the updates theyre working on, and an awesome nature center building that is perfect for kids who love animals and nature. The park naturalists are friendly and patient with kiddos who ask a lot of questions. The only sad part is that people come to the park and leave their garbage on the trails. But, overall it is a great place!Highly recommend!
Beautiful trails. Map actually makes sense and is readable. Distance on each trail is marked by segment.
Loved the nice clean well kept grounds with a spectacular view in every direction! Thank you!
A beautiful peaceful place to self nurture, contemplate and heal. Nice dense forest to savor. Id recommend this spot any time of year.
Love this place great place to get exercise and take in nature.
Always beautiful with super helpful and genuinely nice staff. We did the Spring Break camp and Miss 7 loved every minute of it. She came home tired, muddy, and full of facts and stories to tell ever day. The forts were her favorite part after the animals. We would highly recommend it to anyone with school aged kids.
What a beautiful space! Ive lived here for years, but never imagined this treasure was tucked away here. I look forward to coming back more. Nice trails, with interesting features (and in the process of building more).
I loved this place! There’s a bunch of trails that you can walk on and enjoy the nature. They also have a visiting center and the side walks leading to the visiting center that have footprints of different animals. This could be a good learning opportunity for children. The visiting center also has restrooms. Of note, pets are not allowed in this place to conserve the nature. We also noticed that some of the plants have been spray painted green, which might identify foreign invader species.
Great place, we go here often. Saw to fawn on our walk last time.
Saw a northern water snake in the creek. Found raccoon prints. Deer prints. Saw 2 black rat snakes mating on the trail. And a deer walking in the creek. Our 2.33 mile hike was an absolute blast that my 2 eldest boys and myself will likely remember for the rest of our lives. We went in the morning to avoid the heat of the day. The trees also shade much of the path. Such a grand experience!
So beautiful even under construction. Great place to take the kids, they have a sprinkler play area.
I hesitate letting everyone know how much I love this park, because it’s my little “hike getaway” when I want a quick nature walk. I rarely have a visit where I don’t see some kind of nature. Usually a nice deer, some owls, and cool bugs. So definitely visit sometime, but don’t go when I do so I can still walk without crowds. :)
Fun place with nice hall and visitors center. Good shelters and way to experience nature in Kansas. Fun trails to hike all over the park. Hiking trails connect to Olathe bike trails on the west and south of the park.
Well presented nature center with interactive elements. Educational opportunities for all but the most knowledgeable naturalists. Lots of native flora and fauna along the miles of trails. Did I mention it is free? Childrens programming and summer camp options available for a fee.
I watch my grandsons and we go here all the time, absolutely love it at Ernie Miller! Story Time & Nature Time Yoga are our favorites at the moment. When the weather is nicer we love walking the trails as much as possible. The staff is always wonderful too! Thank you to everyone at Ernie Miller for all you do to provide this environment for the community!!
Even though they are under construction you can still visit. Alot of good info on the hickory forests of Kansas. They even have animals on display.
Great job to all of the staff and park police
We come here with our 1 year old. She loves the owls and the fish and the wildlife viewing room. She also loves going in her stroller on the outdoor trails and falls asleep out there all the time. The staff are phenomenal, extremely friendly and helpful. We love Ernie Miller!!
Nice trails and loved seeing the owl and hawk.
This place is quiet and beautiful, i had a great time with my girlfriend and her little brother. they are expanding it to include a lot more in the future, as well.
We loved Ernie Miller! The indoor exhibits were perfect for such a warm afternoon. The kids loved the big birds, turtles and snakes. The nature hike was great, we want to come back in the spring when the water is actually flowing in the creek. It looks like a great place to find tadpoles, we saw a small school of fish this time!
Super interesting place! They got a Barn Owl recently and she is gorgeous.
Trails were nice, easy walk.
We hiked the trails again today. Great trails and definitely will be back again and again. The last time we were here, which was our first time, was in the spring as everything was getting green. We noticed today, now that everything has bloomed out and is green, that all along the trail the trees and bushes are dead. Is this some kind of poison that they spray to kill everything along the trail? If so I really question this practice in a nature sanctuary.... I have attached pictures of what I am talking about. It was like this almost the whole trail, around both loops.
This is the place of my childhood!! Seriously such a nice place and theyve added a lot too. This is a great space to get into the wild without being completely isolated. Beautiful scenery too.
Love this place. Beautiful trails and friendly staff!
It a small view of animals to see but very nice for whats there.
Quiet place in January. Some of the trails are being worked on. Rolling Ridge trail is just outside the park if you want an extension.
It undergoing construction but when they get done it will be nice again
Compact park, but great trails with lots of improvements being made even now. Herd of deer, various birds, and some small fish were some of the interesting things we saw!
Great trails! Paved and natural paths are available. The map and signs are a bit hard to follow, but everything is a circle so youll eventually find your way. Trails are well kept and clean. Lots of nature to see! Highlights for us were the creek, amphitheatre, and red trail (more hilly, climbing, ducking under stuff, etc). Went here on lots of field trips as a kid but its just as fun to do with my own kid now! The nature center isnt open very often but they are very friendly and have great information and interactive educational activities.
The kids always have fun here.
Used it for Daisy Bridging Ceremony, nice park
Had a wonderful time
This place is nice and beautiful scenery too. The staff were extremely friendly and facility very well kept.
This is a beautiful park with great trails to walk!
Great trails for some easy hiking. The scenery is beautiful. You can either stay on the paved paths or wonder off on the dirt paths which I reccomend
Great walking paths
This is a fantastic place to learn and teach, as well as enjoy nature. There are paved and unpaved trails, giving the option to take things at your own pace or experience level. There are steep, dirt paths, that have treelimbs or large rocks as stairs. There are multiple bridges to pass by. At different intervals and depending on the trail type, there are even benches to stop, relax and enjoy your surroundings. I take my children, ages 9, 7, and 18m and they all find things to love as we venture through. The footpaths are made of varying materials but if you choose a paved path, there are always options to continue on that path type. Two things to consider:The place is large so one can become lost or disoriented but if you go into their Information Center, there is so much information to learn about the place and the nature therein. This brings is to the second point. Their education/information Center. There are live animals and educational activities for the children to interact with. They have times set up for either groups or classes. Bathrooms and drinking fountains can be found there.
Very nice people and trails
Beautiful park, love it every time I go.
I go here to walk and run my RC truck. Trails are a little rough but that’s perfect for RC crawling and trail running.. I wouldn’t recommend bringing a baby stroller in these trails as you will be carrying it over sections of trail a lot..
If you love anything about nature you have to come here! Any age would find this location informative & fun! Trail maps are there to help you decide which trail to take. Some are paved some are not. Some trails allow bikes and dogs some do not. Many options for a picnic lunch too!
Excellent place! We took my granddaughter here and loved this hidden gem. They offer excellent opportunities for fun education for the whole family. We enjoyed the trails but found they could use some gravel on the trails because they do get pretty muddy. Overall its a great family destination that free!
Nice shaded paths with plenty to explore. Indoor facilities along with scheduled events.
I love I can be in Nature on matter of minutes. Beautiful place! Wonderful birds and interesting things to see for kids and adults. I love getting to know more from my surroundings and whats to live here in Kansas. Natural Kansas.
What a wonderful place to visit!! I highly recommend visiting to enjoy the great outdoors on their half paved/ half mulch nature trail. Make sure you visit the rescued animals in the cage outside the building. Overall great place to learn about nature & animals.
Always have a great time with my kids at this awesome spot. The birds, fish, snakes are all fascinating and the room in the back is so educational. Its usually pretty quiet when we visit which is nice. When the weather is nice, we like to hike the trails too!
Bridge was under construction so some trails were closed and there werent any signs up front to give a heads up but, overall the trails were nice and it seemed pretty clean!
Beautiful park, easy to navigate, and the people who work here are so friendly! I took my toddler to the animal tales story time (thats totally the wrong name) and she loved every minute! We will absolutely be returning for the July storytimes and to hike the park! Its great that they have so many paved trails that are stroller friendly. :)
Pretty park, close to a main road, and currently under a lot of construction.
Love the place! Great trails, but easy and slightly more challenge. The nature center is nice as well. We got married in the amphitheater one year ago today!
Decent trail, although pretty short. About half of the trail is suburban wilderness meaning paved paths through wooded areas. But there is a good portion of natural trail. I was there on a Sunday around noon, only saw 2 other hikers. Then again, it was a rare 100 degree day in June. Overall, its a nice little trail to break in a new pair of hikers... which was my purpose for being there. Four stars only because I wish it were longer and a little less paved.
Ernie Miller is great! The nature center is perfect for the kids, including live animals and interactive activities. The trails are fun, but very muddy. Even though we hadnt had rain for a couple weeks. I also thought the trail maps were confusing, unfortunately. We had fun none the less!
Great trails with some really picturesque areas for family or other picture ideas. Staff is friendly and eager to help and answer questions as well. Kids enjoy the nature center and we even had a pair of deer right by the trail feeding. Great for a fall afternoon family outing. My 10yr old son did a field trip here a few weeks ago too and was telling us all about what he learned as we walked through the park and what he did at various areas. The program they did was obviously memorable for him!
This is a super cute little Nature Center. Lots of free things to do and places to walk. Lots of free information and its a self-guided tour as well. I think they also have guided tours if thats something that youre interested in. The trails are mostly paved and so theyre comfortable to walk on for people who dont always go do that type of thing. and some nice water areas that you can go relax by. Theres also an Amphitheatre
Wonderful setup for a 7 Year Olds Birthday Party! I would highly recommend it! Kids and Parents alike had such a great time!
The greatness of Gods creation is preserved here! Enjoy it asap.
Loved the paved trail that was short for my stroller child and toddler! Inside was good too, just wish they had a little more than one room’s worth of things to do with kids (if you’re not part of a field trip or anything like that, I’m assuming).
Had a wonderful time with Molly as our guide on a moonlight hike. Recommend this activity for all to enjoy. Thanks to the staff for all your hard work.
Great place to unwind with the family & the kiddos love it. The trails are a great place to see & hear some wildlife. My two oldest daughters spent a year at their summer camp and had a blast learning about the outdoors. They shot archery, built forts and learned about birds, insects, reptiles & mammals! They, like almost anywhere, offer birthday packages as well. Help support these establishments where kids, and adults can learn about the outdoors. Too many couch potatoes anymore who would rather stay inside and seclude themselves!
Excellent as always
Small but very clean and informative. Lots of activities to sign up for all kinds of age groups and the staff is very helpful and nice. Beautiful grounds with actual prairie grass and wild flowers and all sorts of prairie animals and habitat information to explore. Even a little gift shop in the front.
Nice place too bring the family. Has good trails and wildlife to observe.
Much of the park is in construction phase.
