Great little corner bakery full of delicious treats. The use of natural ingredients is great. They have a lot to offer besides just baked goods...
I have been coming here quite a bit. This place is so good. They have a great atmosphere, wonderful staff and they try to accommodate for food allergies if they can. Everything I have eaten here is so good I keep coming back and not going to any other bakeries in the area because of how good their food is. I highly recommend eating here.
Since moving here we have tried almost every breakfast place in Olympia. This is hands down our favorite. We come here at least every other weekend for breakfast. The Mediterranean scramble is really good! We always get a bakery item to take home too!
Quite possibly the worst breakfast sandwiches Ive ever had. I was shocked. It was worse than airport food. My breakfast sandwich was on a greasy hot dog bun and my friends croissant sandwich was mashed into something resembling a panini. What a tremendous disappointment.
Wonderful service. Welcoming staff, very friendly and diligent. You can tell theirs a lot of love put in the presentation of the store and the food.Highly recommend will be coming back and recommending to other fellow food lovers 🌞
Always a great place for a loaf of bread or a pastrie. Love going here on the weekends for an early breakfast.
Store us clean. Staff follows proper hygiene. They have really good al.ond/protein items, gluten free products in good quality. A bit pricey but quality goods. They also have a day old bread sale daily because rhey make everything fresh everyday.
It was a nice place. Not quite what I had in mind, but they have some really good, healthy options! Its a little on the spendy side.I personally didnt care for the bread. I got a croissant and it was the consistency of cornbread. Other than that it was good.My brother had a breakfast sandwich and he said it was good, but same thing. The mustard that was on it was really good! The staff is friendly and helpful and I wish them best of luck! :)
Im so glad I stopped in here on my way out of town. I was just visiting Olympia and found this bakery when I searched online for gluten free desert.I couldnt decide what to get, they had at least a half a dozen gluten-free options, so I got the chocolate truffle almond cake and an almond cookie. Both are really good!
Lovely! Super cozy lil bakery with really delicious food and really nice employees. Good options for vegetarians or other meat free folk! Theres also outside seating with shade!! Just a really sweet little spot. As another bonus, theres bike racks right outside! Totally recommend!
Great little place, still trying all the different treats. Havent found one that I didnt love.
We actually came for breakfast but kitchen was closed down... bummer.. the pictures on there website looked amazing, we will try again later. They do however make there own mocha and it was delish.... what a mocha coffee should taste like along with the fact it was less expensive than other coffee places and organic. We also bought aLoaf of fresh made sourdough sliced bread.... just want to say OMG it was wonderful, made great toast. Definatly will be back and will write another review
Best bakery, tons of delicious options. Gluten free orange cake is wonderful. Awesome oat milk latte!
Gluten free bread and baked goods. Good customer service. Outdoor seating.
Friendly, helpful staff, great food.
Blue Heron Bakery: simply the best breakfast sandwich in Olympia. My go-to place early in the morning on Olympias West Side. (And the bread is great too!)
Great tasting coffee and I had my first ever tea cookie!
Totally missed they had hot breakfast as the menu was hidden but the pastries were good
Their granola is the best I’ve ever bought! I live in Florida and have been ordering it regularly for at least ten years. Try some!!!!
Best coffee and pastries ever!
Great bakery including gluten free :)
We have loved all the food weve gotten from there.
Everything they make is wonderful. I appreciate the quality ingredients that are used during preparation. Beautiful presentation. Wonderful service. Highly recommend.
Very friendly staff. Yummy baked goodsMany gf and dairy free options. We unknowingly showed up 5 minutes before they close at 3 and they made us feel like the most important people.
When I arrived, the owner of the bakery was very friendly and answered my questions about pastries, including the crusts of the triple berry cheesecake and key lime bar. The key lime bar is amazing. Tart without being sour, thick crust, rich homemade whipped cream--I might not usually pick key lime over cheesecake, but Im glad I did. He told me that the bakery actually opened in the 70s at another location nearby, so it has some neat history, and he sources flour from within Washington State He also is extremely compliant in terms of remaining consistent with sanitizing writing utensils, individually wrapping all baked goods, etc. There are day-old breads and containers of homemade granola lining the walls, with different kinds of sourdough loafs on the next shelves over. Glad I visited; will definitely return.
Got the cheese and herb croissant with egg and ham it was HORRIBLE. It was super dry and they gave me a day old one with no discount. Also i got a hot cocoa and my girl got a chai that were barley even luke warm. Its not hard to make drinks hot. Dont waste your money here
What a great local bakery! I got to try the blueberry and raspberry scones as well as a scoop of the berry ice cream they had! Delicious and very fresh! Tasted like real ingredients like they advertise and it’s true. Real Fresh ingredients :) thank you for a wonderful experience, I will be back soon to try more delicious items on your menus!Go check Blue Heron Bakery Out! They’re amazing and you won’t leave disappointed. :)
I havent been to the actual bakery but I always stop by their vendor at Olympia farmers market because of their chocolate biscotti! Ive tried so many different recipes but havent been able to recreate it... I talked to a lady at the vendor and she said its an old Sicilian recipe that the owner knows!
This fine little local bakery has long held its reputation for whole grain, organic baked goods that are delicious whether you are seeking something savory or sweet. In their small cafe you can enjoy soups and sandwiches and a good cup of espresso. Enjoy a fresh cookie or croissant for dessert along with some Olympic Mountain Ice Cream. Scrumptious!! Easy access to Highway 101 and I-5. Go!!
Was my first time and absolutely delicious!
Good prices, great food and super accommodating to any dietary needs. We had one person with extreme limitations and these guys handled it like pros Both times. Relaxed environment with super star service. Respect like that goes a long way! Keep up the good work
Scones are pretty tasty. Really like their Americano, too. Good beans!
Awesome place!
Stopped by the farmers market today and their booth caught my attention. Lots of yummy baked goods! I really liked the Bee Bee balls. They have a great mouth feel, not too sweet, and its a perfect snack! The Tamari Pumpkin Seeds are roasted to perfection! They are so good! Definitely have to stop by the shop and try out some more delicious treats!!
Going to this place just puts a smile on my face. Many great memories getting baked goodies from previous location. Im excited to be back living on this side of town. Support your local businesses. All natural and organic products. You will not be disappointed.
Great local bakery with fresh baked goods, pastries, and coffee!
If you are in Olympia, do yourself a favor and make a stop here. I came back the next day because I couldnt get enough of the tarts and cakes!
5 stars!!!! My husband and I are here in our honeymoon from Miami Florida. Best omelette and breakfast we’ve ever had!! Highly recommended!! They fill you up 😀
Great people, great place and amazing baked goods
Ive been coming here for over 20 years! Love the new location (Ive been away from Oly for a while).
Im afraid I may be becoming a regular. I get the Ruben and you can pretty much build it the way you want it. Vegan friendly and delicious xx I highly recommend. Seating can be a little awkward if its super busy, but we usually go during the week and have no problem. Side note, they sell loaves of bread and killer granola.
Excellent staff, moderate amount of seating. Calm atmosphere with good music choice. Many options for different diet types. Free Wi-Fi. The food and baked goods were delicious. I had a coconut milk latte and it was wonderful. However, the milk frothing job couldve been better, even with it being coconut milk
Good place to grab some coffee and pastries. The owner and service is incredible. Super friendly atmosphere. Their small food selection makes it easy to make a decision. They always have delicious soups of the day that they change up frequently.
Great breakfast sandwich as always!
I’ve always liked the Blie Heron Bakery. Having said that I hope this review will help them improve on my experience today- -March/ Super Tuesday. With all the places to get coffee and a pastry in Olympia- you would think Blue Heron would make it’s unique stamp. It has all the possibilities. Having said that I think that customer service with at least a smile and helpful disposition would be a basic concept. Seriously, my experience today made me think- even though this shop is in my neighborhood and I would love to support local- it’s all in the way you treat people who buy your services/product. I took the time to write this review in hopes you’ll read it and step up your game in the neighborhood! Oh and post your WiFi password since the one I had to ask for and was kind of sarcastically given didn’t work- best of luck- maybe I will return in the future to see if you read the feed back or maybe not.
Nice atmosphere and amazing baked goods. I go get their day old bread all the time as it is still pretty fresh.I tried my first meal here the other day and was sadly unimpressed. The food they served us did not match the description at all. It wasnt the worst food but when you order items that are named the same thing at other places then you want them to resemble what you know. Soup that is 1/10 broth wasnt my jam. It felt more like wet rice with vegetables.
Whenever I’m on that side of town I always stop by. I usually stick to what I know and that is the scone. They are the best I’ve had around the area and each time I go they have a different kind. I’ve never been disappointed. Additionally, they have some great breakfast sandwiches. The gluten free options are great. The owner is very kind and their staff is always just as kind. I’ve always enjoyed the employees and they are all very helpful. Great vibe and great local bakery. Recommend to anyone.
I was looking for gluten-free pastries for my son, and a sweet treat for myself. They didnt really have kid-friendly gluten-free choices, or many gluten-free options at all, but I was really just taking a chance stopping in without researching prior. I got a chocolate croissant. It was satisfying in that it was chocolatey and buttery. I support local businesses, and the cafe was cute.
Really good, but they need to make more croissants!! I crave their ham and cheese croissant sandwich often, but they have been out of croissants at least 50% of the time if not more often. sometimes it has been in the afternoon which is more understandable, but sometimes like today, it is only 930 am.
Fantastic baked goods, with actually tasty vegan and gluten free options. Pro tip: check the day old section, particularly if you plan to use the bread for toast like I do! Cheaper prices, less waste.
They had so many vegan options here, including a different soup of the day everyday, breakfast, and so many pastries! My personal favorite was the vegan peanut butter cookies. Bathrooms are also very clean and the ambiance was very serene and soothing.
Great update since I was last there. Still has unique loaves of bread. Delicious pastries and pizza. Vegan options available. unique breakfast and lunch menu.
Best bakery in Olympia; lots of healthy options, including GF and vegan. You can get breakfast, lunch, dinner or just pastry and coffee/espresso, or a slice of pizza or soup & sandwich in a quiet, pleasant, friendly cafe environment. Personally, I cant resist their Whole Wheat Walnut Chocolate Chip Cookie! Blue Heron has many delightful & unique bakery creations, and they like to point out that they were healthy before it became fashionable!
I found this awesome little specialty diet place on a quick drive through Olympia. At first glance it looks to be closed (I was so happy that it wasnt), but that is mostly due to the angle at which it faces the main road as you drive by it.Ill be the first to say it, I am constantly shocked at how there are so few diet specializing restaurants/businesses in the Pacific Northwest. The very best vegan restaurant I have ever been to was located not in the PNW, but in Eastern Nashville of all places. That being said, this place was pretty good, its the kind of restaurant one would think to find more of out this way.The service was respectful, the place was clean and well-kept, and the food options were pretty various. We really enjoyed the vegan dessert options, and the pizza slices were delicious. If youre a person who has to live by a somewhat discerning diet (which should be about 88% of Americans right now), then this is the place for you. Check it out, youll be glad you did. I know I was.
We had the ham and cheese croissant. They bake them there in house and the consistency caught me off guard as it was cornbread like on the inside. I think overall it tasted okay, but for 2 breakfast sandwiches being just shy of $20, I was hoping for wow. The staff seemed kind, just very to themselves and more concerned about their own life conversations while we were there. Not sure Ill be back.
I like the food and atmosphere, but on several occasions they have not had any black tea. Not being a coffee drinker, I still need the caffeine in the morning. How hard is it to keep a few boxes of English breakfast tea in stock? Ive not run into this at any other breakfast place in Olympia.
Such a relaxing and homey place to be. Thank you for having great gluten free food. So hard to find. You all were fantastic.
Great healthy food is assured. The breads are outstanding. The service is typically friendly, though a bit overly casual.
Iconic olympia bakery. Whole grains, crunchy granola and sit-down breakfast now. Outdoor covered tables, clean bathrooms and artistic interior
I had their specialty bread with my sandwich, it was delicious! Lots of TLC put into everything here!
Didnt mind waiting for 20 min for my food as it was fresh vegie and potato scramble with two eggs. The coffee was lukewarm. The food came barely warm in a grey shade floating in grease. Why do potatoes turn grey? The choc pecan pastry was stupendous.
Great update since I was last there. Still has unique loaves of bread. Delicious pastries and pizza. Vegan options available. unique breakfast and lunch menu.
Excellent bakery. I had some of the best sandwiches and almond cookies of my life. Great soups too!
The vegan day old cookies are better than their fresh ones. Theyre crisp and delicious! The bread isnt as healthy as I was hoping, but it was good. The vegan brownies taste like nothing. Make sure, if youre vegan, to ask them which vegan options contain honey, so if you dont eat honey youll get the non-honey vegan options. Could offer more vegan meals for breakfast. Vegan granola is alright, but not as crunchy as Id hoped.
We are regulars here. We love the specialty items that they bake. Please keep in mind that this is a specialty bakery not a starbucks so they hand prep each or order to order. It will take some time to get what you would like. I expect this, just know the quality of food that is prepared for you here far surpasses that of a traditional coffee shop/bakery/eatery. Some of the employees lack some knowledge and or service skills.
Such good food. Great local business. Small eating area but really cozy. Quick place to grab some fresh baked goods, coffee, tea, soups, salads, sandwiches, pizza and more. Breakfast and Lunch.
Great fresh baked goods. I love their Spinach Fetta Turnovers; Im always sorry that their scones are too sweet.
I love the food (baked goods are delish). The staff is warm and friendly, and its a local business!
So I love this place. I usually am happy to pay their prices because the ambiance is really great and I like supporting local business. However, I experienced the rudest female cashier/barista ever today. She was so curt, cold, and did not even try to make pleasant conversation. It made paying over $6 for a coffee less worth it and more stressful to me. I will think twice about returning.
This is my go-to place for hemp lattes and gluten-free breakfast eats.
A very big menu considering its a bakery. The staff here is very friendly and the pizza is cheap and delicious. If this place were downtown Oly, itd be packed non-stop so Im kinda glad its in West Olympia. Only complaint is the lack of seating.
This local bakery has good variety, including whole-wheat and gluten-free options. The people are always friendly and the fresh bread ia delicious. Not the best local bakery, but very good. The tables and outdoor seating are nice.
Great little neighborhood bakery. I love the rugelach. Good coffee, breads, pastries...Beautiful garden areas.
This is by far the best local bakery in town! Many of their baked goods, freshly baked breads, cookies, brownies, muffins, and more are sold throughout downtown Olympia!::They make some delicious Vegan and Vegetarian treats! Their breads are uniquely delicious too!
Great coffee turnovers gluten free pizza awesome cookies and breads a favorite place
One of the better alternative bakeries in town. Blue heron was a day late on a order I put in. Good thing I called ahead during the busy season for my pickup. They neglected to inform me, probably because of the holiday.
Love this place! Great stop for breakfast, or even just some baked goods and a hot drink. Their food is delicious.
Good hot drinks. Nice people. Great pastries
Lots of gluten free items. Good prices. Nice atmosphere.
Lovely staff, everyone here seems to work so harmoniously. Great espresso. Overall the most welcoming environment Olympia has to offer. It truly is a space for everyone.
Staff was nice enough, seems geared for people who are allergic to things or on special diets. Not for me, but I can see where its good for others.
Vegan pizza for lunch, one of the most flavorful pizzas Ive ever had. Will definitely be back to explore more of the menu items.
Just moved into the area and found this place for a cup of coffee one morning. Great staff and they offer awesome service. Love coming here for my latte in the mornings!!
If you like good food, good coffee, friendly staff, and environmentally-responsible establishments with a local feel, odds are youll enjoy the Blue Heron Bakery. Im so glad we got off the road to ask for directions; we had such a pleasant surprise coming into this quaint, off-the-beaten-track bakery! Loved it!
Ehhhhhh, I was pretty excited to come and eat with my sweetheart and it was not very good at all. We had a ham and cheese croissant and it tasted like cornbread. The staff were very into their own world and when we tried to talk to them and they didnt seem happy to engage with us.
I love going here for the vegan spelt muffin that usually is gluten free as well! They also have hemp milk lattes which are a rare treat for me!!
Through 3 years of being vegan, I have eaten at the Blue Heron. I have unknowingly eaten honey because of mislabeled breads, been given provalone on a vegan sandwich, and today was given a ham soup. I would love to say I havent eaten an animal product in 3 years but because of this one store I can not. Its just not a vegan friendly cafe, no matter what the menu says. If the owner isnt there, the enployees really dont seem to care.
Cool bakery, eatery, cafe combo. Its a little short on seating, so if you plan to eat there its hit or miss. They have great coffee at half the price (maybe not quite half but noticeably less) of the usual chain stores and way better quality. They make breakfast dishes as well as their selection of pastries and breads. They have many gluten free and vegan options as well. I got the vegetable home Fries and they were pretty good. I think the potatoes are pre cooked because they stayed in perfect squares and some were pretty crispy. The other vegetables were very fresh and cooked well. They also have some pre made sandwiches and salads that are easy for a grab and go lunch option. All in all a really great find.
Their baked desserts, espresso drinks, and breads are delicious. A lot of the time the music is too loud to hear to order your food or talk with the person you came with. But again, the food is delicious.
The scones being sampled were amazing, as were their muffins, and the atmosphere is quite pleasant.
Love it! Really great food, and gluten free options. Such a great business really adds to the surrounding neighborhood in development. I look forward to seeing how it grows with the surrounding community.
Good services, terrible bakery. Overbaked cookies with too much flour. Bust.
This is the BEST! The most amazing bakery, especially if you are gluten intolerant. Prices are also AMAZING.
An Olympia institution for yummy treats, artisan breads, house-made granola and coffee!
Friendly staff and not put out by all of the food allergy questions I asked. Great food and wonderful selection of GF and Vegan options.
