A smaller hidden gem for pho and other Vietnamese/Korean/Thai dishes. Always love going here when Im in the area.Orders can be entered on the touch screens or at the register. Theyll call the number on your receipt when its time to pick up your food so you can grab it (usually on a tray) and bring it back to your seat. This time I got a pork steamed bun, chicken pad thai, and taro boba tea.The bun was perfectly steamed and very flavorful. Some folks may not know, but Vietnamese steamed pork buns come with a quail egg inside, which is absolutely delicious. Definitely recommend.Pad thai was pretty good, the chicken was a bit dry but the sauce made up for that once I mixed the chicken around a bit.The taro boba is my favorite kind on the menu if Im being honest. Responses will vary but to me it always tastes like sweet potato with a bit of maple syrup. Just sweet enough.Definitely recommend stopping here if you get a chance.
As much as I love this place, there have just been too many times Ive came there when it wasnt all that busy, but ended up waiting an annoyingly long amount of time (45-60 minutes) for food.I know that theyre busy with other people, takeout orders, and online orders, but I feel like if Im waiting for nearly an hour or longer when Im only ordering for 1 person, it seems like my order might have been forgotten or something. Maybe not, just it gives that perception off.I would say, be careful when coming here and plan your time out accordingly. You might think you can have walk in, have lunch, and be gone within an hour, but then, it might take an hour just to get your food.I will return still, because I love the food, but I am cautious when I go.
This is the first time Ive ever wanted a refund, before even getting my food. The kiosk (they were using a kiosk, rather than cashiers/order takers) didnt have a menu item, so I asked the server/wait staff multiple times about their tonkatsu. I explained that it wasnt on the kiosk. They explained that they do serve tonkatsu (deep fried pork cutlets). I wanted the tonkatsu for my pregnant wifes cravings.I ordered appetizers, and waited to pay for the tonkatsu. I asked the kitchen staff, wait staff, pretty much everyone there, if I could just place an order. They said yes, sure. About 15 minutes went by, when I got fed up and said I want to place this order, and I was told that they do not serve tonkatsu. This place used to be my go-to for cheap, half decent food, but Ill never, ever be coming back. Youve lost a customer for life. You wasted my time, when my pregnant wife just wanted one specific thing. Fortunately, the restaurant across the street (Gangnam) had far superior service. Its not the best service, but infinitely better than my experience at cafe vie. Disgusting hospitality. If I could, Id rate it -10 stars.
My favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Overland Park. Big portion, hearty soup and a simple order first then sit down type of place. Perfect for my 1 hour lunch time. Food comes out quickly and they also have Japanese curry and Korean options.
For some, the food isn’t authentic enough; for myself and many others, it is perfect. The atmosphere is laid-back and cozy; perfect for large groups or solo eating. The service is speedy and kind; hard working women serving up big portions and fresh food! My go to will always be the beef phō for it’s warmth and portion sizing. Highly recommend the spring rolls for a snack! Always a lovely AND consistent(!) experience!
I was recommended this place from a coworker from Thailand by how much she would brag about the good pho they serve here and now I know why. The broth and spices of the pho were fresh and tasty. Over all a great experience. I will need to return back as I eyed a couple of good dishes just walking out of there. Excellent and quick service and highly recommended for good pho south of down town Kansas City
The girl at the counter was extremely rude.. smh I will definitely be driving the extra 15 minutes to Pho Good from now on. Be kind to people! Customers or not.
The pho used to be really good, but for the last 3 times I went the broth was so sugary sweet. If they can cut down or not put in the sugar rocks to sweeten the broth then it would have been perfect.
Good food, very popular place, all the tables were dirty though
A very unassuming Asian Cafe, but the food speaks for itself. Their menu features popular Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, and Thai dishes, as well as Boba. Being able to mix all of my favorite Asian cuisines really makes Cafe vie special for me. One of the best parts is if theres a dish you really enjoy at Cafe vie, you can literally go right next door to oriental supermarket and get everything required to make it at home!
I had Po and spicy garlic chicken wings it was great. Its my 2nd time there. I love the soup. I will be back next week.
This restaurant is a hidden gem. The food was absolutely fantastic! The beef pho was amazing. The spring rolls were delicious, and the beef bun was huge and equally delicious. While I was disappointed they were out of honeydew boba tea, they did rectify the situation and offered to give me a refund or make a different boba tea for me.Food was ready in under 20 minutes.Ordering on the kiosk was simple and easy. Will definitely be coming back in the future. And while you are there, visit the bakery at the end of the strip mall
The best pho. Period. Great bean buns too. It may be hidden in back of a strip mall but Wow us it worth seeking out!
45 min to pick up TO GO. Horrible customer service. They didn’t show me any reactions even to my Thank You with no eye contacts. My 3 stars only for the food. Korean spicy chicken tastes real and authentic.
Drove 12 miles to come eat here, arrived at 8:05pm, (they close at 8:30pm), only to be turned away in a very rude manner. Lazy... trying to close earlier than closing time, then correct your hours on Google and elsewhere, just because you have decent food doesnt mean you should slack on service. Wont be coming again.
I’ve been coming to this restaurant ever since I migrated to US at the age of 4 from the Philippines and their food was amazing but recently over the course of years I’ve been going to Cafe Vie, it has surprisingly became worse. The beef pho is always my go to food, but I had the Omu rice and it was not cooked like as if it was like before. The omu rice looked like there was just a piece of big egg on top of the rice, not looking like the actual omelette, the rice was not hot, there was no ketchup on top, and the rice was plain and simple there was no peas or carrots in it and usually peas, carrots and other ingredients are added in a fried rice meal. But overall, some of the food does taste good, but I believe that they should put more effort into cooking certain foods.
When I say the longest wait times even when there is nobody there — 1-2 hours plus for one dish. I mean it! I used to frequent this restaurant plenty of times, supporting small businesses. But there is no support for customers. Even the phone line is busy 24/7.Do not shop at Cafe Vie if you value your health, time and true quality! Avoid avoid avoid.
I have been here so many times and the quality of food has gotten really worse!! Also I had to wait more than 25 min for three items at the restaurant. I definitely wont go back.
Pho is amazing with generous portions of meat and the temperature is very hot. The herbs served with the pho are minimal and come wrapped in plastic wrap and look as if they were prepared days earlier. (Same with peanut sauce served with spring rolls.) Not the cleanest place—even on days when I arrive when they open there are tables that havent been wiped clean. A couple times we had to wait an hour for an order of wings.
We used to love eating at this place but recently the customer service and the food quality has deteriorated. The beef pho soup was bland.and the large beef pho serving is smaller than it used to be while the price has gone up. Customer service was way substandard. They have new people but that should not be the reason to neglect a good customer service.
This place has no pho soup for today. I can’t believe it. Beef bulgogi meat was mushy (no real meat). Large size of soup has not enough noodle or meat. I won’t come here again.
I placed an order and had to wait over 45 minutes to receive my food. There was no one else in the restaurant except me and my family. It took them 45 mins to prepare an order. Even worse is for 20-30 mins I could see 4 people in the kitchen playing on their phones and ignoring the fact that I placed an order 20 mins ago. It’s a shame since I used to love this place and the food but the declining customer service is turning me away from this place. I would NOT recommend going to this place ever their customer service is just sooooo low quality. Won’t be coming back !
I wanted to like this place after reading the reviews but my experience wasnt great. It seemed like a popular place. The main issue I had was I kept smelling something odd, it may have been dish soap but Im not sure, I smelled it on my chopsticks, on my Bun Spicy Pork dish, but it was strongest in the soup which I believe was Miso, and I gagged. My wife had the beef pho which wasnt bad but the slices of beef were quite large. The portions were about right. The hot tea was served scalding hot and was nothing special, just a tea bag, I was able to start drinking this about 30 minutes after served. I think they could improve the seating layout which is tight and you have to navigate around chairs and people with a cafeteria tray multiple times to get each order that your party ordered one at a time after they call your number. The back of the restaurant and kitchen area were quite dirty. They provide takeout containers for leftovers but if you get soup good luck not making a mess in the transfer. At the end you get to return your tray to a dish cart, really classy. The next day I discovered The Kansas Department of Agriculture reported ▪ Cafe Vie, 10330 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, had nine priority violations during a March 21 routine inspection. And you can look those up for more details but I see dishwashing comments in there.
No basil or jalapeño for the pho… Just cilantro and bean sprouts. Wish I would have known that before spending $14.50 (after tax and tip) for a medium bowl. Oh, and no soup spoons. Just plastic spoons, so you have a bit of a challenge to finish the broth. Go literally anywhere else for a better pho experience. If Cafe Vie is reading this: Not having basil is mean.
Food was kinda a weird-greasy and didnt really seem fresh... Too much of it seemed processed if you will. I personally could taste an icky, humidity kitchen-scent in the food. I really regret coming here and spending my money... At the time, I had really regret even eating the food... I usually eat really healthy, fresh produce and herbs, so that probably plays into why it tasted off like that to me, but honestly, it made my stomach feel off... The place seems nice, like they try and try hard to execute pretty nicely, they have a company come in and disinfect their building for them regularly, and I could see why a lot people would enjoy their food (lots of people like that sort of greasy, unfresh food...), but it wasnt for me... And in a way that is more than just preferential. It reminded me of bad cafeteria food
Very casual and very freakin good. Best in the area for pho. We have been routine customers for years and it never disappoints. Great place to pick up pork bao buns and bobba teas. They got a relaxing patio now too.
Great pho..... simple, but super flavorful... plenty of beef and noodles. Fast service, good price
Very good, authentic food. Not a long wait time. It is served like a cafeteria so you go pick up your food and carry your dishes back at the end. Still safe during covid. All dishes I try are always amazing and meet my expectations. Fair prices too!
Not very good food or service. Other places are much better
Nice little restaurant, the pho tasted really good even by itself. Youre given large chunks of meat and it soaks in the broth nicely. It does get a little crowded when there is a lot of people so its hard to navigate between the tables. The food was cheap, but the servings were large. I would recommend this to anyone that would want a good bowl of pho in town.
I have enjoyed everything Ive tried. Good sized meals at a fair price. Always clean. When I need a quick lunch their pork bun is perfect! Especially when its paired with a boba tea!
I had to wait more than 50 min for 1 items at the restaurant. Horrible customer service.
Ordered 5 items took them 30 min for 2 items and took over an hours for rest foods. Itshard to believethe placerated 4.5 rating. There was no apology nor offered compensation of any kind. I would not go back.
Utility, cafeteria style Vietnamese style grub. Don’t come for atmosphere or style, but if you’re down for some perfect 👌🏻 comfort Pho 🍲 then belly up to the bar!Skirt beef, chicken, seafood, and chicken pho 🍲 are all on the menu; no meatball pho sadly. They were out of spring rolls when I was there, but it was evening, so watcha gonna do.I would recommend for job lunch, carry out, and a casual evening spot.
Great Beef Pho in Town! Seriously!
Disappointed. Ive been here many times in the past, so I am not sure if something changed recently, but the food was very below expectations. Beef pho tasted differently and a thick gross animal fat (like Crisco) across the lid and throughout the soup, which I have never seen in the many pho portions from Cali to Kansas. My husbands spicy pork was a half portion of normal. The fresh spring rolls were lacking of fresh herbs, shrimp, lettuces... it had imitation crab, since when!? No herbs, and a shrimp, sliced in half to make it look like more from the exterior. With each container we opened and each bite we took we just continued being disappointed. And pretty sure the vegetable buns had pork, but I cant tell you for sure since I didnt go show them and ask.
A little lacking if youre dining in.. but the food is very good and reasonable.
We actually were shopping at the Asian market, right next door. They have nice selection of fresh cut meats, vegetables, frozen foods, snacks & drinks. They do have Japanese made items: gyoza, noodles and ice coffee. Friendly staff.
All great experiences - dine-in, takeout, and delivery! Tried the curry tonight and it is delicious. Thank you!
Their ramen is really good.
This was my first time trying Vietnamese cuisine and I was really impressed with how their food tasted. Tried their chicken pho and the broth tasted really delicious. I wish they have some items that were spicy but I ended up adding some sauce to my pho. I guess I picked chicken pho to be safe due to my first time, but there offer different choices including a spicy shrimp pho. Besides Vietnamese, the restaurant serves Thai, Chinese, and sushi as well. Its almost all you get most Asian cuisine in one place.
Great food, fast service, and decent prices. It is tucked away, but well worth finding.
Horrible service, refused to come backDirty af
This is the most unpretentious restaurant of its kind. This is never going to get a Michelin star, never going to get an absolute rave review, but damn it if its not just good solid comfort food that is actually authentic and authentically made by the people that work there. Its good, solid, diner food and I love it.
They remodeling has made more space in the dining area. It is very nice. The food is amazing as always! Café Vie is a unique experience here in Kansas. It has been a favorite spot of mine for many years.
Their larger pho is like other place’s medium
99.9% sure they have the best pho in the Kansas City area. Highly recommend!
Great pho, Korean dishes, and poké to name a few. Fresh ingredients from the market next door. Highly recommended.
The absolute BEST pho you can get in Kansas City. Its consistent counter served food. Very laid-back atmosphere and quick service. They cut their beef thinner than most places, which I prefer. I feel it better blends the flavors, instead of overpowering beef flavor every couple bites. Cilantro, likes and jalapenos are always fresh. I dont drink like I used to, but I do also remember loving this place when I was hungover. Like an instant cure.
Good places to get Vietnamese Phở! My family stop by every weekend. Reasonable price and service!
I’m Vietnamese and from Houston, so I know my pho. The pho at this place is atrocious and is nowhere near real Vietnamese pho. We tried both the chicken and beef. Could not finish either due to the overwhelming artificial taste. The beef was also extremely tough. Seriously, this was the worst pho I’ve had in my life.
Food was delicious and at a great price. Would recommend this place !
I come here regularly to order the regular of beef bulgolgi (am I spelling that right, lols?) and chicken pho. Just started ordering the korean wings, and oh boy, it didnt disappoint. You can also order some bubble/boba teas.If you dine in, its self-serve for the water (located in the corner near the cashier) as well as self-clean for your table and emptying your tray.
This place is awesome! Lot of great dishes here. From Pho to Tongkatsu to Bulgogi and more. The pork buns are a must get too! I go whenever I have a chance. I recommend this place and if you dont no what to get.....get the beef bulgogi. You cant go wrong with it.
Literally I want to throw up after eating here. The curry looked and tasted like something from a can, the rice looked days old. The Sushi was flavorless and the bobba was so dry. I wish I could’ve got my money back.
8/20/2021, took them almost 30 minutes to cook my pho.
This is my new favorite place! Love it
I’ve been going here a while. I was not happy with the customer service when my to go food was given to me. There was a situation that was not handled right about mask requirements. She was disrespectful and not very kind. Unfortunately, they lost my business and my families.
Worst Jajangmyeon of my life. This is not edible. Never again. Ever. Ever.
You come, you like.
The food is good, but the service is horrible. The lady at the front is so rude and disrespectful
Great authentic Vietnamese food. The Pho is at least 2 meals and a medium is the same amount as large if ordering take out. Other dishes are also large portions that can feed two or have leftovers. Spicy Pork Bun and spicy bonless chicken are also delicious. Cant wait to try everything!
It was so delicious their red bean and pork buns are so beautiful!!!! they send your taste buds on a wild ride! the taste was so sensational, it make you wanna smack ya mama!
Their jamphong is getting worst.. not as delicious as before…very disappointed!!
Just watched the girl working the pass drop a lid on the floor, pick it up and package Togo food. Yumm
After ordering pickup several times, I have decided never to order from here again. The serving sizes were an absolute joke.
I got the beef pho and my partner got the bulgogi. Both dishes were delicious. This place is no frills. Its clean and the food is good and more than reasonable in price for what you get but you arent going to take anything home either. Mostly community tables and you pick up your food and bus your own table. The selection I think updates and varies because there are different dishes and specials everywhere. I was told that the bahn mi sells out quickly (we were not able to try it). Theres bubble tea and coffee. Definitely coming back.
Received my mothers meal very quickly then waited for 45 minutes to receive my chicken pho... The food was really good but the service and speed was awful
The spot for quick home style Asian food fix in OP! 😘🤌🏼
