Just stopped by once to get some picnic lunch and it was very fun to shop for. Extensive hot and cold deli, prepackaged salads and wraps, chips, cheeses, little sweets that are organic and fair-trade and low sugar and coconut sugar and gluten-free and all the things that make you feel better about eating dessert nowadays. I got the green pea and bacon salad, a hardboiled egg, and a chocolate truffle thing. We tailgated in the sun right in the parking lot and enjoyed the cast of characters rolling by.
This is the sweetest grocery store where you really do get service with a smile. The well-tended produce section is the crown jewel, where effort is made to provide locally grown, organic food. The bulk food area is well-stocked with flours, grains, nuts, spices, cereals, teas and treats, and the deli has delicious offerings for omnivores and vegans alike. There are wines, baked goods, natural medicines, toiletries and candy--everything you need. Some things are more expensive here (some are cheaper), and you generally wont find big brand name items, but they do carry Cheerios and Darigold, so your familiar breakfast is covered. Part of the fun of shopping here is discovering something new, and knowing that the elected board and CoOp management have your health and the health of our community in mind.
Very good co-op with a broad selection of bulk items: food, cleaning supplies, and health/beauty items all available in bulk. Save on packaging! I wish the deli was even bigger, and the hours were longer, but PT is a small town and people know how to plan ahead. Love the friendly staff!
Best grocery in town! Great organic, locally produced products throughout. Terrificly friendly and helpful staff.
Love our co-op. Good selection. Good staff.
I always seem to get overcharged, just watch your receipt...with all they money they make they need to train the cashiers better...Ive gone to central market in poulsbo for 10 years plus and have never had one problem with their cashiers so its possible...Im just good at math and like to pay what Im supposed too..there is a few chill people there though...they needs some artwork or something in there too or some cool prints of the area..
Good quality produce and different gourmet items. High prices. Go in off peak hours to avoid the crowds.
I just LOVE The Food Co-op! EMILY has been so helpful, professional, goes the extra mile! I really appreciate the kindness and the quality. A beautiful selection of meals, paninis, gorgeous citrus fruits, flowers, yummy soups, chocolate treats and cheeses! Thank you for having such excellent customer service- made my day- especially my parents day during a sad time. Your food is bringing them love right now- how special during such a hard time in general. Thank you Emily and Co-op, Happy Valentines Day! - Carrie
The friendliest staff, great selection of organic products, great beer and cider options… all at a pretty reasonable price.
Good place to go for hard to find ingredients
Fantastic options for organic food.
Great local options, and excellent bulk section with lots of affordable staples. I also appreciate how hard theyve been working to keep everyone safe during COVID.
Great grocery shop, they always have all the fresh produce from the various local farms. All in one store!
Horrible management. The co op should be a place of community and pride. They lack both.A real shame.Missing the old days of kindness and respect that once filled Port Townsend’s co op.
I feel more secure shopping at the co-op than the grocery stores in town. Their prices may be a little higher, but quality is great. More local foods than in grocery stores. I feel it is important to know where my food comes from.
Great, member-owned store selling organic, local food. I like having a voice for how this store is operated and what it stocks. Good bulk area with many herbs, teas, grains, etc. They treat their employees well (even health plans!) Yes, it is often costly to purchase organic, sustainably-and humanely-grown plant and animal products—but I am happy to put my money there instead of into some of our large, wealthy corporations that underpay their workers, overpay their CEOs, and use too many harmful chemicals for a sustainable environment. I realize I am privileged to be able to afford decent fresh food while many people must resort to cheaper, overly-processed foods. I’m glad that the co-op regularly contributes a ton of food to our local food bank.
The Port Townsend Food Co-op has a friendly staff, well-stocked shelves even during a time of crisis, and feels like an oasis or shelter during a storm. I also applaud the coop members who remain calm, dont hoard, and care about the welfare of the entire community.Besides that, the food coop sells local goods, produce, and beverages that keep the funds in the community. In an era of online shopping, its good to know that there are still brick and mortar stores to shop where people are friendly and you can get what you need when you need it.Kudos.
Very well stocked and run co op, very friendly staff, nicely strict about face coverings and no pet policy. Keep it up!
Weve belonged to the Co-Op for 9 years. Our experience has been nothing but wonderful. They all are such kind, warm and friendly people...like a big family. We love going there. They do a fantastic job of managing the store and have done a great job on the remodel.
Gross and unsanitary. Horrible customer service and management. Do not shop here.
Nice store.
I am posting this after years of shopping here as well as my family and friends shopping here. I feel the need at this point to make a comment after years of myself as well as family and friends having negative experiences with some of the staff here. I always felt this was a store that attracted people like me who care about the environment, care about equality, and try to live consciously, and many that shop here do, as well as some that work here. There are some very nice genuine people that work at the Co Op I have had good experiences with in the past but there are also a fair amount of people that work here who have been cold and sometimes downright rude and condescending towards me as well as family and friends through the years. I had an experience that you could say was the final straw that made me feel the need to leave this review. I was very tired from an overnight shift at work and was heading into the Co Op for a coffee in the morning, I have not been in much since the covid 19 pandemic has hit and was unaware of a designated immune compromised shopping hour. I came in exhausted from my shift and forgot to pull my bandana over my face as I entered the store, i was instantly treated as if i was one of the anti maskers that you see having temper tantrums in the media these days. I am most certainly not an anti masker and quickly pulled my bandana over my face a little embarrassed that I had been so careless. I sincerely appologized to the woman working and explained I was tired and didnt mean to come in that way, she gave me a judgemental look and said something along the lines of nevermind go get your coffee. However the whole interaction seemed a little rude and there certainly was no understanding on her part in my eyes that I had made an honest mistake. Later I was paying for my coffee and was a good 6 feet from the man in front of me in line when the checker said very bluntly give him space I appologized once again and was given no response in return. I have had many experiences similar to this through the years shopping here and know some friends who dont go here anymore because they feel unwelcome. The Co Op has great organic items and produce and I am grateful for that, however I wish that all of the staff working there would reflect the values that a store like this represents to people. We are all doing our best and please understand we have the best of intentions when dealing with this pandemic, however nobody is above human error. Thanks.
Fun place to shop or to have lunch. Things here that are hard to find other places. Very helpful staff.
Good
The produce team is always happy to answer any questions I have as well as help with special orders to suit my needs and recieve the best cost.
Clean store, high prices, snobby stuck up attitudes though. NOT community orientated and they are very demeaning towards poor people wanting to live a good life. they got rid of their public seating area, i have a feeling because they didnt want healthy poor/travelers eating there anymore. no microwave. but the store is clean if you can have the confidence to refuse to let their lack of humanity to deter you from buying organic food. oh!- they just remodeled too.
I loved my experience here! Great prepared food, colorful and inviting space, very community-oriented.
It is entirely possible for a health-minded person to do ALL their food shopping at the Food Co-Op. The Co-Op comes as close to perfect as can be and is continually evolving with member input. There are a couple of negative reviews which only proves that no good deed goes unpunished.Thousands of us are Member-Owners, and Life Members as well. Even those just passing through are wise to join as monthly members, receiving the lowest pricing while giving something in exchange to support the continuing success (44 years so far) of our organization free of corporate profit-taking and control. The Co-Op is much more than a chain store or an ordinary grocery.
Fabulous food, and service. Also after shopping and eating lunch we discovered our car battery dead, and the store was more then helpful. Thanks to the food co-op we did not miss our ferry!
I love this place so much its hard to know where to begin. Hmmm, how about the deli with the delicious veginini (vegan panini) sandwiches, the greek potato salad, and the selection of ready-made sandwiches you can grab from the cooler? I also love the selection of food at the warm food bar/salad bar. So much goodness! Love also buying fresh ripe fruit and having a sink to wash it in before sitting in the cafe area (did I mention there was a place to sit and eat all this goodness)? I also love the selection of non food items (you know you have been wanting a hula girl cooler bag, right?). To top it all off the people here are friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!!
Excellent selection of local produce. Great discounts, sunny outdoor eating spot and if thats not enough, it even has its own kitchen garden. Need I state more?
A real grocery store with a natural foods deli restaurant in the back for take out or seating right there. Creative, delicious offerings. Pick up dinner or stop for lunch and do your grocery shopping at the same time.
Decent selection of local organic foods. I five the coop 2 stars due to lower than expected levels of customer service, very high prices and the perennial question of where are my dividends?. Also, the deli case is really not spectacular when compared to Sunny Farms in Sequim or Country Aire in Port Angeles. There is room for improvement all around at the Coop.
First time here while visiting. Lots of local organic produce and fruit. Great prices. Amazing bulk bins and loose leaf tee. Will make a trip back up here just to shop here
Awesome place. Great people and food. Its nice to have a great co-op when we are out of town and cant get to our PCC.
High quality goods. Reasonable selection. Think a small Whole Foods. The deli is great for getting lunch on a weekend.
Huge variety of healthy options. Also holistic remedies & supplements with a great variety of essential oils.Food court is a bit pricey, but tasty.
Wow...words in any language cannot explain this magical nutrition barracks! Bears Foods, Trader Joes and any other place for obsessed individuals about what they put in their bidies...not mentioning the over the chart staff in servicing beyond.....Go healthy, affordable by knowledgeable customer service in food, drinks, body building & the real deal of body care from hair shampoos to toes creams! A productive time consuming hub lol.
Good stuff found here. Try the egg bacon turnovers in deli. Yum. Some items are pricey, but lots of healthy choices.
My favorite place to go, for munchies and beer. Love y’all!!
They charge an arm and a leg for VERY POORLY prepared food. Awful hot bar selection if you’re plant-based or gluten free. Even my omnivorous boyfriend thinks it’s bad. Don’t even bother with their pre-made sandwiches, they’ll cost you your mortgage.
Fantastic selection and delicious goodies fill this friendly community co-op, and service was great! A genuine community hub with all the cool things going on in the area posted about.
Quality deli food, local choices for grocery items, and good prices for organic. Small but good selection of supplements
My favorite store for great produce and a fabulous deli! Great vegan options.
Good healthy local food at a reasonable price. And a variety of healthy prepared items. If you have dietary restrictions this is the place to go.
Great local organic produce! The other items are also carefully sourced.
Its like a Trader Joes, but more expensive. Its ok for some items, but to shop there for your main grocery shopping you are going to break the bank. There are some bulk items you can get. A decent deli counter. An amazing supply of bulk herbs. And locally sourced fruits and veg.
Nice, local organic grocery store, with hot food and takeout deli. Nice seating area with wi-fi for eating inside, or a patio for sunny days. Carries a lot of local food, a large selection of bulk items, a peanut butter machine, and some plant starts from local farms. Can be pricy, but no higher than other organic, local food stores. Good place to stop for locally sourced gift items, too.
Love all the organic choices!Though I speak not only for me, your food is extremley bland.
Location, parking, staff friendliness, layout and aisle width with lots of choice in bulk and packaged foods and plenty of local fresh produce fresh (August). Organic ginger from Peru tomorrow in my smoothie.
Great selection, snobby people, extremely high prices. Would love to be able to afford to shop here despite the odd vibe of the wannabe hippies in wool. Yesterday I got a small bowl of mashed potatoes from the deli for $9.98. The cashier marked it off 50% after I said that was insane, so kudos for the customer service but holy hell. Maybe Im just a fat ass and no one else eats a full bowl? In the last 3 days, 3 different people I know have complained about the prices and how they accidentally bought too much and were shocked. Obviously they are doing something right as they are always busy, this just isnt a place a family making $70k can afford to shop. I like the Costco model, charge less, sell more.
Organic local foods and farm fresh vegetables. A bit pricey but friendly people and fun to check out if in the area
Needs more affordable vegan and vegetarian food in the hot bar/in general
For healthy food it is one of the only places around. The staff is friendly and the prices are better then the Whole Foods type stores. On the other hand the produce here is the some of the worst around. Even Safeway has better produce. Also they can go overboard on activism and will stop selling a great product if the manufacture gets bought out by a corporation. They also still sell a lot of snake oil and homeopathic cures despite overwhelming evidence that they are ineffective. Last time I checked, they do this without the proper FTC required labeling per the FTCs Enforcement Policy Statement on Marketing Claims for Over-the-Counter (OTC) Homeopathic Drugs.
Friendly staff, fantastic vegetable selection - but kind of skimpy on the breads
New to Port Townsend, and Ive been here a more than a few times, and just about every time Ive encountered extremely rude employees. If being treated like trash is your bag, then youve no worries here.
Port Townsend ... this place (the coop) is a gem! Wowza! Lucky Port Townsend...to have such a great variety of organic options.
Rude, snobby, overpriced, yuppie, bullshat. I was instructed to unload the 5 items out of my basket. I worked retail for eleven years and never asked a customer to do my job for me. He carded me, then my girlfriend commenting on her age. Shes 34. Then tye-die yuppie loves his own farts got an attitude when I asked why he needed to see her idea when Im paying. Then he calls over a manger. The guy was over 60 the manger under 30 it was like a twilight episode of Portlandia. Im new to the are and was excited about being part of the coop. Well never mind...Port Townsend is full of the fakest folks Ive ever encountered. Ill stick to Chimacum where people still excuse them selfs when they fart. Not package it and sell it as organic for 100$.
I love this co-op. I visit every time Im in town. They have just what I want food-wise and Wi-Fi too.
This place is a super good place to get fresh organic fruits & vegetables. They sell a variety of healthy foods to choose from, and the customer service is always 5 stars.
Buyer beware.Avoid this Food Co-op at all costs. We have been going to co-ops for close to twenty years and have never seen the business practices we witnessed at this one today. While the products are decent and there is OK variety, the coop chooses to punish customers with a Non member surcharge of 10% of your total. You spend $100 with them? They ding you another $10 if youre not a member of their coop or any other. This will never make me a member of your co-op. Ever.I will never stop at this co-op again while in Port Townsend. I will stick with PCC in Seattle or in Edmonds prior to boarding the ferry.
Great place to shop for locally grown produce.
I love the co-op! (Thats why Im a member)
My food source. Only wished they opened an hour earlier and stayed open an hour later.
Do our shopping...Life time membership.Awesome
Best grocery store in Port Townsend and the whole area in general.
Just watched a poor young girl spill a juice on the floor, obviously it was an accident and she was apologetic. The employees were so rude I couldnt believe my eyes. Very disappointing.
Nice coop. Good choice.
A terrific fresh food store.
The place doesnt serve healthy meals at lower prices Bc its the only store in the area
Food Co-Op says it all. Fresh food, good prices.
We had a wonderful, healthy lunch.
Expensive with a ok selection but watch out for the homeless in the parking lot.
Great Deli Love the Food!!
Carrying a very large variety of local products grown within 50 miles of the store
Great little co-op!
Quality of the produce is much higher than the other 3 grocery stores.
Dont sit next to this guy .
Too yuppie for me. Expensive. Not sure how they getaway with those high prices.
Its all about local!
Feels like home.and healthy
Love this place!
