They sell nice bikes and may be good for full-service treatment, but not the place if you want to buy some parts to do things yourself. If you have any DIY in you, dont expect quality advice and expect strong up-selling for their service. Last time they wouldnt lend a simple screwdriver to install brake pads they sold me. I want to love them and re-try every couple of years.
I bought a mtn bike in the 4-5k range. Not a high end bike, but not a Huffy either. Staff was fairly helpful, but a bit condescending at times. What I wasn’t told until I got to the counter to pay, was that they ding you $200.00 to build the bike. If I had known, I would have either bought it online or better yet, just had them sell me the bike unassembled. A frame up build is not that tough. I have built up full suspension bikes before.
I got into mountain biking after a really long time. Bought a used bike and am having it serviced here. Kurt has been really helpful and has been very patient about my queries and concerns. Definitely a great experience so far. Pretty confident about their ability to service well and build if someone needs those services!
Pro staff all the way. Customer service is outstanding.
Very good experience with buying a Status 140 here, they said that deliveries of status orders were going quickly, so we expected a month or so, but I got it in 2 weeks. It can set up perfectly, and I am very happy with it. Good job Chris!
They have a good stock for being during quarantine. This is unfortunate because they have some of the worst customer service I’ve seen. I have gone in twice looking for advice on their inventory, stating I was looking to buy a bike. The response I get is almost annoyance that they have to help me. They are annoyed to bring any bikes out, which is difficult because they won’t allow anyone in their store to see the stock. I would like to buy from a local place, but I would expect better customer service for a $3k+ purchase
Helpful shop. Andrew was great to work with and patient. Cant go inside quite yet due to covid but looks like a great shop.
Great shop and very friendly and helpful guys working there. They noticed my rear shock on my new Enduro didnt sound right so they took the bike back and swapped it out on the spot.and had me hitting the trails within half an hour. I wish we could have entered the store but was off limits due to Covid-19. We had to window shop 😁
Rad shop with guys who love to mtn bike. Their knowledge, ease and care about your experience is very evident in customer service..... best shop in Portland for sure!
I stopped by after losing a screw from my SPD cleat. Staff was helpful and replaced the screw free of charge - amazing! Since I live in the neighborhood I will definitely return and promote the shop to others. Thanks!
I’ve been a customer at The Farm for over a decade and I do a lot of my own bike maintenance at home. When I need some real pros to do a job the guys at the shop are unmatched. My bikes feel brand new after getting service there. This bike shop is absolutely top notch.
This mountain bike store carries all the top brands. Definitely geared to those who love the dirt. Price is competitive with all the other shops in town. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Maintenance department is first rate...best in town.
Wouldn’t accept a new part return sold to me 3 days prior, only store credit. Not the service I’d expect. Kept an $87 sale, lost a new bike sale next year 🤷♂️
Awesome place knowledgeble/friendly staff for both sales and service. Customer support is fantastic.
Super high end mountain bike shop and these guys know bikes. Had some derailleur trouble and they managed to get it dialed back in with a really fast turnaround.
I was able to get my custom built mountain bike (fork and shock) serviced here while I was in town for work, and everything went buttery smooth! They had a huge mechanical crew cranking out repairs and such while was there and they seemed like they had everything dialed. I would definitely recommend this shop if you’re in from out of town, they’ve also helped in the past with trip planning. They didn’t have a big selection of tools when I was there, but they were willing to get anything I was looking for - apparel selection was great.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Would like to buy another bike for my son as soon as the new bikes start rolling in.
Great bike shop on the west side! Staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, and actually ride mountain bikes too. Not a large shop so fairly limited on what they have in stock, but what they do have is from reputable brands. Demos will be for sale on a regular (yearly?) basis. I believe most of their demos come from their Hood River location. Very reasonable customer service... if something goes wrong or youre not satisfied, its been my experience they will do what they can to make it right and you happy.
These folks are awesome. They have great customer service! Right now is tough what with the covid & covid rules. Not only are they top notch on the covid rules & safety. They are still willing to help a fellow rider get what they need.
Just purchased my first mountain bike and Patrick was extremely friendly and personable. He asked what I wanted to use it for, budget, etc. and found the perfect bike for me. He then spent time picking the right components and special ordered the bike I wanted without just trying to sell me the most expensive bike. Bike shops can be a bit intimidating, especially when jumping into a new style of cycling and the experience here was tip top! After I made the purchase I was even more stoked when they told me they would custom fit the bike to me, offer a complimentary 30 day tune up, and all minor work/adjustments would be free for the life of the bike. He also offered some insight on accessories and recommendations for places to ride. Best bike purchasing experience ever and they just made a customer for life. Thanks and cant wait to start riding!
I rarely write reviews, but I really wanted to call out the stellar service and atmosphere this place delivers. I had big plans for riding over the weekend and Friday morning I had a stick get caught in my wheel. I brought ii in for them to look at, and it turns out that the hanger and derailer both were toast. They were able to replace and fix everything while I waited which allowed me to ride over the weekend. This was just the latest example of the awesome service I have had here, and a great example of why you should support your local shops.
Come here for service regularly, and could not be more pleased! They are always kind, friendly, helpful, honest, quick, and efficient. Even though my bike isnt a mountain bike, and is in fact electric (extra hassle for them because its very heavy and has extra cables), they have no hesitations and do great work on it. Always confident that my bike is in good shape after coming here. :) Highly recommended!!
These guys were brilliant. Helped us out of a situation when we were traveling through. Quick and efficient service and we cant thank them enough.
I called to see if I could get a Santa Cruz Stigmata bike I bought checked out. I was invited in to have it looked at. The gentleman who checked it out educated me about all the work that had been done to it, the progression of the model over the years, and pointed out every custom add on. He knew the price of each different piece. And when one shifter needed to be replaced he recommended me to a place I could get used bike parts at a good price.Such service is greatly appreciated and hard to come by.
The employees at this shop are the most knowledgeable and friendly you will find in any bike shop in Portland. I have been going there for years and will not take my mountain bike anywhere else. Very professional and always greet you with a smile and want to know how they can help you. I recently witnessed someone who had a bad experience but the shop manager bent over backwards to make sure they made it right. Thats what it takes to keep that positive vibe and make sure people know that they will always get excellent service.
What sets FTF apart from all bike shops is SERVICE. They are professional and know bikes- yes they are a mountain bike shop - but I get all aspects ( sales and service ) of my bikes done at FTF. I just had a major bike user error and brought it to them to fix, which they put their heads together and got it done. The best part is they have PARKING- easy on easy off I- 405
Love this place. Yes, the bikes are pretty pricey, but if you tell them what youre looking for and what you want to spend, theyll give you the best options, along with pros and cons. Service is also outstanding.
My wife and I came into this shop to look around--sometime in the next year we are planning on upgrading her mountain bike big time. We were greeted quickly and genuinely, and after we asked a question the staff member (didnt get his name!) did a really great job of asking the right questions, showing us what they carried, what they could get, what was out there period, and did it all in a very friendly and warm manner. To be honest, my wife is a newer (yet competent) mountain biker but she doesnt look the part. Im always afraid bicycle salesmen will be demeaning or rude with her but the person who helped us here did no such thing. Very impressed. Also, as a professional mechanic myself, I was impressed with the level of knowledge concerning the different bike models, especially concerning their riding geometry and styles--usually a thing that most people are unaware of. Im guilty of it myself. Overall, Fat Tire Farm was extremely professional, helpful, and friendly, things that are unfortunately not always found in a bike shop. Good job guys :)
Wow, great selection of MTB some of the best brands and models on the market. If you love Mt. Bikes you need to check this place out. We had some service done here as well. It was good but not great. The tech did not call me back with a quote like he said he would, then called several days later to inquire and that tech had left on vacation. No one knew what was going on with my bike. Had to start over with another guy, not the end of the world. Even with that hiccup O would recommend it and enjoy coming here to shop.
PDX has several great bike shops. IMO, every biker should have 2-3 favorite bike shops - one for each type of bike. If you need a top end Mt. bike, with great service and support over the life of that bike, then this is the place to go.
Excellent group of dudes, and they helped this roadie get back on his commute with a new set of tires after a blowout. Highly recommended.
The staff really know their stuff. They take the time to listen and relate knowledge and expertise. What really sets this shop at the top is how warm and personable the staff is. It’s always nothing but professional every time I go in.
Great service. Excellent selection. Kinda pricey, but well located in the city and deals abound.
If every business was as awesome as the farm the world would be a better place. If you need to have your bike worked on this is the place to go. They have fixed, warranty replaced, and tuned my rig to perfection. Keep it up FAT TIRE!!!!
Great bike shop with staff that know their way around bikes. The owner works hard to stay on top of the every changing bike industry. Park and Barry are great people to purchase a bike from. Highly recommend.
Great selection of mtn bikes. Helpful staff if you know a thing or 2 about bikes. Not the best place for newbies. Great proximity to Forest Park. They lead a weekly ride into the park.
Great bike shop !
Couldnt recommend this shop enough. I had been on the market for several months to upgrade from my xc bike to something more enduro-ready. But as a fairly new rider, i was really struggling to find a bike that I was confident would be what I needed for the next few years. And then Berry and the other guys ar fat tire really took the time and helped me through the process of figuring out what bike is going to be the best fit for me based on how/where I ride. Truly felt like everyone at the shop wanted to see me go out on a bike that I loved, not the most expensive bike in there. (actually, I ended up going with a bike that was a few hundred dollars less than the bike I originally went in to get on. ) Everyone at the shop taking the time and having the patience to walk through the whole process with me is what made it a great experience. FTF will be my shop as long as Im in Portland
I am in the market for a new mountain bike and was in the area so I decided to see what they had in stock. From the first visit to my most recent visit these guys have been super helpful. I have been on test ride after test ride comparing bikes in back-to-back rides and these guys have been nothing but accommodating. Unfortunately they dont have the bike I want in stock and it appears to be out of stock from the manufacturer so I will actually feel pretty guilty buying from another shop given how helpful these guys have been.***update***Got a call that they were able to order the bike I decided on and a week later (shipped from the east coast) I am the proud owner of a Giant Trance X 29er. Really cant say enough about these guys. They definitely earned my business.
Fat Tire Farm specializes in mountain bikes. I dont trust any other shops in town to work on my mountain bike. Highly recommended!
We received good service. We were out of town and looking for bike rentals. It was nice to ride a higher end bike than we were used to. The staff helped us with maps and directions for biking Mt. St. Helens, a highly recommended ride and not as difficult as I imagined.
For mountain bikes...this is the only place I like working on my bike. Pleasant people to work with.
A great neighborhood bike shop. Friendly and knowledgeable, the boys at FTF will treat you right. Plus, a convenient bike wash station outside for those muddy ride clean ups--brilliant!
I had a negative experience here and would not recommend this shop to anyone. The first day I came in asking about rentals, and the female sales associate merely referred me to their website for a full listing of rental bikes...while I was standing in the store... Not very helpful. However, a few days later I ended up renting from this shop because it was the only place I knew that rented mountain bikes in Portland. My friends and I went to Sandy Ridge the next day, and everything was great for 45 min or so, but then the bike started ghost-shifting. It got so bad that the chain even dropped, despite the fact that it was an all-mountain/downhill bike and had a chain-guide pulley. I put the chain back on, kept riding, and maybe 500 feet down the trail the whole derailleur fell off of the bike, got driven into the frame and wheel, and snapped the chain. The derailleur hanger was perfectly straight and you could see where the bolt had been improperly tightened and stripped out of the hanger. Definitely nothing I had done to cause this problem. When we took it back to the shop, the mechanics looked at it, never gave a verdict, and the manager said the owner would call me back the next day. Two days later, when I had already left Portland and was back in Virginia, I received a call from Park Chambers, the owner. For about 20 minutes we went back and forth about who was at fault and who was going to pay for the damages. He was quite verbally abusive and indirectly called me a liar several times. He said the bike tells the story of what happened and kept repeating this line about just riding along damages still being my fault, that I had signed the contract, given them my credit card information, and so I was responsible. If I knew then what I know now, as soon as I got off the phone I wouldve shut down my credit card, because he charged me anyway -- without an invoice, estimate, or anything.I emailed asking him to give me my money back before I went ahead and posted reviews of my experience. He responded by threatening to post copies of signed documents and pictures of damages in response to my slanderous posts in order to defend the good name of The Fat Tire Farm and its reputation to the fullest extent of [his] ability. I am still waiting on my credit card company to dispute the transaction, and Ive filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Now Im sharing my story wherever I can. It was an awful experience. Dont waste your time with this place.
Probably the best MTB specific store Ive been to. Excellent selection and the staff were great.
The guys in the shop were awesome! I came in two days before I was leaving for my wedding. My bike had what I thought was a small issue of the rotor rubbing and I wanted to have it straightened out before I rode from PDX to Hood River. There was a week long wait to get my bike in the shop, but these guys did me a huge favor and worked on my bike for nearly an hour to get it in a good enough position to ride out to my wedding. The issue ended up being much more complex and Id imagine super frustrating from their point of view, but youd never know it.
Hands down, best shop in Portland. Everyone knows their stuff, and their service is awesome.
If you like mountain biking this is the place to in Portland. They sell only mountain bikes which range from XC to FR to DH.
Great customer service and amazing prices right now for their sale.
Great shop with knowledgable employees and good values. Ive bought more than 5 bikes at the Fat Tire Farm over the past 7 years and they staff have been reliable, consistent, and constantly improving since day 1. Easily the best MTB shop in Oregon.
Amazing place if you have a decent budget for a mountain bike. They will price match other shops too
Great store for higher end bikes as well as great service
Im an avid mountain biker from San Francisco and I travel to Portland for work, often. when Im in PDX I always rent an mtb from fat tire farm. they are extremely professional, no attitude, very helpful, have an unbelievable selection of the most modern high-end bikes. most importantly, theyve gone above and beyond for me on 3 separate occasions. a few years ago, on my first rental experience with them, I took a Santa Cruz tallboy out into forest park. it was drizzling and I had not brought a rain layer. the shops owner, Park, lent me his own rain shell which saved my day. since then, Ive rented 2 more times and gone out to ride sandy ridge. most recently, park and his team coordinated with my hotel to allow me to have a gorgeous Santa Cruz Bronson waiting for me in my hotel room for dawn patrol at sandy ridge the next day. On all 3 rental occasions the bikes were flawlessly set up and clearly had been maintained by expert mechanics who love riding: flawless shifting, dropper posts that worked perfectly, stout XT brakes -- you get the picture. Im lucky to have built close relationships with some of the best bike shops in the US (in California, New York, Tahoe, and Utah) and I can honestly say Fat Tire Farm may be the best shop Ive dealt with, anywhere. I have been and will to continue to send any mountain biker I know in their direction without hesitation.
Really would appreciate if you guys would post your holiday closing somewhere other than the entrance door( Facebook, Instagram, etc).Edit: just saw a post this afternoon, thanks!
Best shop arpund..... and they support the local trail building and events more than anyone!!!!
Primarily gone here for supplies or servicing, always great service. Including fixing my bike bag multiple times and not charging for it.
Had a flat tire on my stroller and they were so helpful! thanks!
Great bike shop and very helpful
This store has a fantastic selection of high end bikes and great service. Although unfortunetly the majority of the time Ive been into FTF the additude has been poor with bad manners regarding customer relationship. I dont go here unless I NEED to and cant find it anywhere else in town.
Dirt focused bike shop with full carbon bling prices down to completely reasonable performance bike pricing. Great knowledge of XC through dh. Best shop in the area for dirt. The integrity of a shop that recommends an XT brake over an XTR because its better bang for the buck deserves 5 star. Thanks Park.
Best MTB shop in the PDX/Vancouver area hands down, go here to get everything from service to parts to advice for anything MTB.
Cant say enough great things about the crew at FTF. Just picked up yet another bike. Thanks for all the help!
My review maybe be bias because i got the sweetest deal ever!!!!!! love my Kona Operator!!!! and some free swag...............thanks guys
Awesome bike shop for your everyday needs.
Great place, clean, friendly and knowledgeable staff! Dig-it.
New bike and a great price!
This is the place to go in the NW to get work done on your bike. They are the most equipped shop for servicing bikes in the area.
If you are going to rent bikes for such insane prices at least mention why on your website. Is Portland taxing this activity so much?Rent a bicycles for 24 hrs = $125Rent a $25,000 car for 24 hrs = $40Doesnt make sense!
The selection and service are good
