My stock wheelset blew a spoke nipple a couple nights ago. I brought this rim in at opening in hopes of having the spoke replaced for a bicycle date with my friends before 2pm and they were able to replace it and true my wheel, which is now very true and very straight. The quality of the bikes and tools they are using in there are very good, prices were not the worst, the espresso was okay I had a double with a splash of milk on the rocks with a little bit of sugar I wouldnt make the trip for it but I would definitely get it every time I go there.
Loved it! We were biking by on my birthday and stopped for drinks. They were so kind. I tried the Lavender Lemonade they serve there, and it was delicious! Best lemonade Id ever had, and was a great addition to the day. Will definitely go back!
I reached out to Kevin at Golden Pliers back in March about doing a custom build-up of a beautiful Riv Sam Hillborne frame they had available in their web store. Kevin got back to me super fast, saying that theyd been planning to build it up as a complete anyway. After looking over the proposed parts list, I was stoked--I wouldve picked all the same gear if Id done it myself! As the build came together and we waited for a few extra bits (racks and wheel set) to come in, Kevin was super consistent with updates and responsive to all of my questions. This was my first custom build experience so I didnt really know what to expect, but theyve definitely set the bar high sky-high for communication and helpfulness. When it came time to pay and verify shipping information, Becky helped get me sorted quickly and smoothly. The bike arrived via BikeFlights in just a few days, packed professionally and securely.I was floored at how rad my new Sam looked in the photos they shared of the completed build, and I still feel that way now, looking at it standing in my living room--though now its covered in a good layer of dirt, as it should be.I really cant say enough good things about Golden Pliers. I think its rare for a bike shop to deliver such amazing service and stock exactly what youre looking for while still being friendly, super-knowledgable, and just as stoked on the build as you are.To put it simply, there are a lot of cool shops in the Bay Area, but I really wish Golden Pliers was my LBS. Thanks yall!
Heck yes this store; walked in expecting my bike would end up in a queue of service which I was totally content with but they helped me immediately, changed my tire, walked me thru why it might be continuously getting flats, it was super efficient, super effective, super friendly. And I got a coffee too. Definitely coming back.
WOW! Fast, friendly service. I was able to get my flat repaired between Max stops and not be late for work. Outstanding!
Golden Pliers is such a cool spot!! Half hang out space, half bike repair and accessory shop. Beautiful bike accessories are for sale here ... Home of Makeshifter Canvas Works!! Bike repairs!! Coffee, beer and delicious baked goods!! Friendly people!! The space is bright and welcoming ... it’s a great hang out Happy Hour spot. Definitely a new favorite of mine :)
Golden Pliers is a top tier bike shop. The employees were knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I will happily send business their way.
Got an annual for my Surly. Got it back the same day. My baby shines! But more important, the gears are so freaking true. I can use everyone and the shifting is crisp and sure. The staff were all great and responsive answered my questions and got the job done on time as promised.I love that it’s walking distance from where I live making it really convenient.
Big shoutout to this team for providing high quality customer service and taking the time to educate their customers. I took my bike in for a tuneup and the mechanic walked me through all of the red flags they saw and how to address them. While it was pricier than other local shops for a seasonal tuneup, I felt my dollar went so far here. They consulted and provided me with optimized cable routing, rack configuration, and set me up with the perfect tires as apart of this process which I have never experienced at another shop.Prior to trying out GP, I tried my other local shops who greeted me with an elitist and hands-off attitude. Making GP my LBS of choice has helped me become more self sufficient and educated as a cyclist.Everyone on this staff is so knowledgable and friendly, it’s refreshing. Quality, small-batch crafts and tasty bevs too!
Good mechanics, good advice, friendly folk... whats not to like?
This is the bestest shop in the whole world. And also great at recovering stolen bikes (like mine! Find the story on insta). Ask Becky to show you her “ready to rumble” face she saves for bike thieves.
The supple store on Skidmore! Imagine my glee when I knew I was moving to Portland and realized the nearest LBS to my house would be Golden Pliers. Can you imagine it? So stoked! The mechanics do their best to help but are super busy so it appears appointments are necessary. Great selection of tires. And getting to see all of MakeShifters wares is really cool. Bought new pedals which they installed right away and I bought a 4pak of beers to go! Basking in the glory of ultraromances shorts will have to wait for anther day.
This is one rad bike shop! Reasonable prices for all services, and very clear pricing structure for jobs like rack fit/install. They also have an awesome selection of accessories and can get or help get you whatever you need if they aint got it. Oh, and you can sip beer while they work on your bike to boot.
Great shop, and great people - Ive been taking multiple bikes in for service and the intake, communication, options, and service have always been very clear and concise. I appreciate the follow-up calls on additional service required and talking to the person that is actually performing those services and establishing a relationship. Highly recommended.
The crew at Golden Pliers is top notch! Friendly, professional and they are always happy to answer my seemingly endless stream of questions. Kevin got my Santa Cruz Chameleon setup with a dropper post and some new tires in just a few hours. Would not hesitate to recommend and will definitely be taking my rig back there for any service.
The best! Great service! Great coffee. Lots of cool and unique stuff that you wont find anywhere else as well as all the little things youll need to make you bike your own!
Great service, found me the fenders and parts I needed in one day with great advice on install options
Great bike shop and more!there may not be tons of bikes hanging from hooks, but Kevin and his staff know what theyre talking about when it comes to bikes or adventuring on bikes. Yes, they have tubes and tires and such, but they also carry other great items you wont find in most bike shops. You can also grab a cup of coffee, a beer, pastries and even root beer floats!
Best bike shop in Portland! Kevin (the owner/manager) is incredibly friendly, knowledgable and skilled. In fact, every staff member Ive dealt with at Golden Pliers has been nothing but happy and helpful. The store has a great assortment of bike gear and accessories that you generally wouldnt see at just any shop. Very well curated product line-up from independent and small businesses as well as hard to find or specialty items from established industry leaders.Whether you need a pro-build on your brand new Crust adventure rig, a wheel true, or just a quick flat repair, Kevin and the staff of Golden Pliers are there for you. Best bike shop in Portland!
Wow, what else is there to say that hasnt already been said?! Golden Pliers is one of my fav shops in town. Kevin and Becky and their crew have years of experience and are super welcoming to novice and experienced riders. Service is fairly priced and top notch. Always worth an appointment. If youre not in for service or gear, its a great spot to grab a coffee or a pint. I highly recommend Golden Pliers. Thanks for being a positive force in our community Becky & Kevin!
Down to earth bike goodness! Kevin is an excellent mechanic and he and Becky are holding it down for a positive and inclusive bike community. I dont live anywhere near the shop and go out of my way to go there just soak in the good vibe and talk bikes and routes.
Awesome little bike shop. My ideal joint has a mix of food and libations and some dope, high quality bike gear - and this place is just that. Friendly people and a decent spot with loads of bike racks to park up for an hour or two.
The most unique and charming bike shop in town. I love stopping in for repairs, to pick up cool merch and bike gear no one else in town has, and to have a coffee and vegan cookie while talking the owners ear off about nothing. A highly enjoyable place to go for all yer bicycle needs!
I had a great experience getting a flat fixed quickly. It was really affordable too! Thanks!
My partner and I recently moved to Portland from Tennessee. We had some friends from back east recommend Golden Pliers to us for all things bikes. I needed some tires and help on on odd chain ring issue our first week in town and bringing the bikes here felt like wed never left home. The entire crew has been exceptionally kind and great to work with. Theyll likely get you fixed and rolling in less than an hour depending on what you need. If anything its great just stopping in for a snack/drink and a chat about bikes, camping, or life. My partner and I gladly pass multiple shops in our neighborhood to take our rides to Golden Pliers.
Love this place, Kevin and Becky have done something special here. They provide access to a rad selection of gear, expert service, a place to hangout grab a beer AND they host community events. I dont really know what more you could ask for from a local bike shop...I guess you could ask them for some really good coffee, which they have as well.
By far my favorite bike shop in Portland. They always seem to have just what you need and the service is amazing. I have taken a couple different bikes in for repairs and the work was always perfect and really reasonably priced. Great coffee too!
A great place to get your bike worked on, get accessories and grab a beer. Kevin and Becky are kind and go the extra mile to be inclusive. You can roll in with a box store bike or a high end road machine, they will treat you well.
Great vibes and mechanics and gear and people and bikes in this amazing small but mighty bicycle shop in North Portland. Kevin and Becky and their staff always are super nice and helpful. Prices are fair to beyond fair for well curated PNW gear and mechanical services (which I’ve been a customer for both many times). Love that I can stop in and have a cold beer on tap, local coffee, and savory/sweet snacks galore while I wait for a service or just to hang, read, or work. All around A+ bike shop and highly recommended to check out!
Favorite place in town to meet with friends, talk anything and everything bikes, and enjoy a beer. The owners and staff are all lovely and welcoming human beings ready to serve you up tasty refreshments and professional bike repair service. Kevin has become my go-to mechanic for everything from basic maintenance to custom bike builds.
Golden Pliers Rules. The shop crew is remarkably knowledgeable and friendly. They have plenty of unique parts and accessories to add a little flair to your steed and get you back rolling on two wheels. Check them out!
Came in while biking down the west coast, and they were super welcoming! Warming up with some cider before moving on made it extra special. Definitely a must-see during a PNW bike tour.
I dont need repairs done very often but when I do I trust Golden Pliers Bicycle Repair & Supply. Be it a flat fix, a face and chase, or a dynamo setup they are the best youll find. If you need a solution for your next adventure tour or just a place to chill with a beer and a bite to eat, in a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, then this is the place. Please keep the mid-century chair free should I swing in for a pour over coffee.
Kevin and Becky have created a unique space that I am sure to visit whenever I am in Portland. They know lots about all things bike related -- from carbon go-fast bikes to old, steel fixed gears. They also have tasty snacks and drinks. They have a welcoming vibe to all people and I just feel the best parts of the cycling community can be seen on display here.Also...cool IG famous tyres can be had here. I bought some in the Brevet compound.
Great little shop. Either stop in for a flat fix, or get a special bike custom built. They will even special order parts for you. Oh yeah, there is also: beer, coffee, and ice cream.
Cool shop! Scored some new toys for my bike and left with a few gift ideas.
Had an opportunity to work with Becky via email. She responded to all of me emails promptly, managed to find me the product I wanted(even though they were out of stock) and everything was received as expected. Will definitely look for an opportunity to support this business again.
Yall, Kevin & Becky are the real deal. Great snacks, excellent beer, and the best vibes of any bike shop ever. The selection of accoutrement in the shop is small, but rest assured: everything Golden Pliers sells is, well, *golden*. Really f*kin bummed this place is no longer a hop-skip-and-a-jump from my doorstep.
Kevin and Becky are incredibly accommodating and consummate bike pros. Plus the space is well lit, inclusive, and a great hang out spot for community events or just grabbing a coffee or beer!
Kevin helped select components, built wheels, and expertly assembled a Rivendell tandem for my wife and me. His work was top notch. We love it!
Kevin was very welcoming, and affordably completed the repair in minutes. Great neighborhood bike shop + cafe!! They also keep a bike pump outside during business hours. Will be back.
Easily the best bike shop/beer and wine bar/coffee bar in the country. Friendly atmosphere feels just like home, except with cool stuff to look at and buy.
My favorite Portland bike shop! Snacks, refreshments, caffeine and libations. All these belly ticklers await you while you pick up some well curated merch, hand made bike bags, or get your bike properly chilled out by their sage mechanics.
Kevin is rad! He built up my Elephant NFE really nice and was a pleasure to work with. His communication was excellent and he was able to work within my budget to build the most excellent NFE. I also love the Makeshifter bags...check them out too! My wife also secured her bike through Golden Pliers very quickly even adding fenders and a rack. Every staff member was friendly and great to talk to. They also organize awesome local rides. If youre in the Portland area or are a local please stop by Golden Pliers. Its a great addition to the Overlook Neighborhood!
Helpful and welcoming bike shop! Has beer and snacks and lots of other stuff too. A rad small local business
Golden Pliers may be the newest bike shop in town, but it is run by industry veterans who know their stuff and arent out to sell you the latest/greatest widget like many others...Kevin and Becky have created a welcoming space with a curated selection of practical goods for riding, commuting, exploring and camping by bike. The shop is service, rather than sales, oriented and it shows. The beer, coffee, snacks, etc? Icing on the cake, so to speak. My kids have also have fallen in love with the root beer floats this summer - part of the regular rotation going forward.Give these folks your business and youll probably end up with friends...
Kevin transformed my Surly with new bars / rack, wheel build and overhaul. His work is spot on. I am stoked to have this shop in my hood. Besides the quality rebuild, Kevin and Becky are great people. They have created a sweet spot to hang for coffee (and soon beer).
Great place. Kevin knows all about bikes. tunes mine regularly. cool bike gear. chill, comfortable. and beer!
Great staff, high quality repairs, tasty beer on tap & a fun space for community events! Pretty much everything youd want in a local bike shop.
Perhaps you seek the finer, neater bits and pieces currently available for our bicycles these days. Or maybe you just need a tube.Perhaps you rolled over some unfavorable detritus along our dear Interstate Avenue and require a quick flat fix. Or maybe youd like to inquire about a fully Bespokeamus, Xventureable Mobilecycle.Perhaps youd like to sit back, relax, and enjoy some fine literature while sipping a barley pop and munching a handful of pub mix.Golden Pliers serves our cycling community by being truly greater than the sum of its parts. We seek a gathering space to share stories & insights, plan future trips & geek on others. Golden Pliers provides that space and then some. Thanks for being there, you all, and I hope youre there for a while longer yet.
It’s an A+ bike shop with A+ staff AND they have beer. You should come here even if you don’t have a reason. This place is great.
A great, neighborhood shop! The owners are so nice and helpful. Also, beer, coffee and brownies! What more could you want?
Friendly folks here! Delicious coffee, lots of light: Makeshifter bags, gorgeous builds and all the accessories you could need! A great addition to our neighborhood. So glad yall are here!
Stopped by while visiting Portland to buy a handmade Snackhole pouch and Safety Pizza reflector a few weeks ago. Happy with both products!
Great food, cold beer, and the worlds coolest shop dog Emmett. The bags are fantastic, the owners are great, I love this place!
Such a great space, and wonderful humans! Kevin and Becky always offer solid advice and a welcoming atmosphere.
Sorta like a small town store -Bicycle centric offerings plus ice cream, baked goodies, beer and a chance conversation with other cyclists. And good mechanics too!
Killer space run by killer people. Also killer coffee and killer treats.
Very friendly, professional yet casual. Eclectic stock, refreshments, and theyll fix whatever ails your bike.
Great shop for bike repairs, custom builds, and everything in between! Follow them on Instagram to be in the know about fun events as well!
Love this shop. They carry an awesome assortment of stuff and are super friendly.
Awesome shop with kind and friendly staff. Come for the helpful advice and curated selection of bike accessories, stay for the quality selection of beer, coffee and snacks.
Great people, great space, great food and drinks. Give them your dollars!
Extremely cool bike gear, knowledgeable staff, hot coffee and cold beer. What more do you need?
What a fantastic shop, Portland is lucky to have it! Kevin built a dynamo wheel for my Rivendell and installed the lighting; he knows his Rivs! The shop atmosphere is super welcoming and I come here for drinks after work to hang out and chat with the great staff. I love the random fun things they get in, like the Bart Simpson valve caps, and the gorgeous Makeshifter bags. Truly a gem of a place!
Incredible bag, beer and bike experience! The Makeshifter bags are amazing, the beer selection is intimate, and the people are great.
Truly the best bike shop in the town. Judgment free, lovely people, no better option in Portland.
Kind people who share their wisdom and love for bikes with allllll who enter their doors. Excellent bike repair service, fun selection of bike goods and accessories, paired with good tunes and plenty of munchies.
UMMM, repair, coffee, pastries, parts, apparel, handmade bags, on a bike lane in close in NoPo? what more could one ask for? oh yeah BEER!
Every aspect of this bike shop is stellar. The service is top notch (Kevin is the Fender Wizard), the parts and accessories stocked are all of the highest quality, and theres great beer and snacks to partake in as well!
Quick, friendly, good prices with good services, and has a nice little coffee/beer bar too.
Bike camping accessories? Check. Coffee? Check. Beer? Check. Food and snacks? Check. Seriously. what more could you want? And to top it all off, theyll fix your bike and sew you a custom bag too.
Went in to get a new bike adjusted after beating it up for a few weeks. The deraliers were a little wonky. These guys couldnt be more friendly and even gave me a few tips on how to adjust them on my own. A cold beer and a few magazine pages later I was back rolling on my way.
Great shop! Quality people, environment, products. Dont not go in for a visit!🎃
Friendliest shop in PDX + a rad place to grab a coffee and gear
My new favorite bike shop! I just love the owners Becky and Kevin, theyre there all the time and just the kindest.
Awesome shop and awesome staff! Got me all set up for my recent bike packing trip around Mount Hood.
